Ok, it’s my birthday today, and I’ll soon leave for a billiard game and a glass (or two) of red wine. But I have a bit of time left to share with you another first look at the XF 16mmF1.4 at bencherryphotos: astrophotography, close ups of pythons and elephants and short XF Lens Comparison. At the end, it seems that the XF 16mmF1.4 will find a permanent place in his camera bag… a “fantastic lens”!
And a MUST READ in these days is Rico’s FIRST LOOK at the XF 16mmF1.4. (German Version)
I really have to go now (with my New Camera)… cheers 😉

So happy birthday then, and thanks for running this website !
Happy Birthday!
Very happy birthday! Enjoy it and thank you for all your efforts!
Fuji is boring: every lens is fantastic…
Nothing that a hammer couldn’t fix….
p.s. that was in reference to the lens perfection.
p.p.s Happy Birthday Patrick!
Happy birthday, Pat! I wish you good luck in your life and work.

Like I said before, one of the great things about the Fuji X-SERIES is the ever increasing large selection of high-quality, beautiful lenses.
Despite what many complainers say about Fuji, I am able to get beautiful photos with my so-called obsolete X-Pro 1. And, the lenses i have are fantastic, and i could get several more – and there are more in the pipeline to come. So, once they upgrade the sensor, it is only going to get better.
My only wish is for the ability to convert the files to 16-bit TIFF using the in-camera converter, as I use it with minor adjustments afterwards in Capture One/Photoshop.
I mainly use Photoshop and would also love to see the ablility to convert RAW files to 16-bit TIFF in-camera converter. I find converting it in-camera only to compressed JPEGs, uselles. Regarding high-quality fast lenses that Fuji brought to users… it’s really great how many fast primes Fuji does offer now, but at the same time many users, like me, do not buy them… and the reason is not the price but their big size. I want to buy 16/23/35 and 56 primes, but they are too big – maybe instead of 35/1.4 – for me, my shooting and for photography I do, so it’s still like a very poor offer. I hope Fuji will be bringing now small primes with f/2 like recently announced new 35/2 WR. Small Fuji X was the reason I sold Canon 5DII with 4 primes and moved to Fujifilm, but after a few years I feel rather disapointed because Fuji stoped bringing small primes and put all efforts for making very fast but big lenses.
First: Happy Birthday, Patrick – and thanks for all the good work running this site!
Second: About Ben Cherry: I really like fuji lenses but i think it would be fair to mention that Ben Cherry is sponsored bei Fujifilm.
She is using the RR-90, great accessoire !
Patrick, Happy Birthday !
I own two Fuji bodies X-E1 and X-T1 with some very best M42 lenses and a 56 1.2 Fuji. I sold both bodies cameras and the Fuji lens. From my point of view all Fuji images are flat without “power”. Lot of commercial involve in this Fuji stuff, but final results was poor. Staying in the market 5-6 month with Fuji, now i’m glad i return to my FF camera. I never buy a Fuji until they will release a good sensor on the market. We will see how their new APSCH sensor will move the market, but for the moment, bye bye Fuji.
My assumption is you are were using Lightroom for the conversion (Adobe isn’t very good for conversions in general), or you just don’t know how to process the images. It takes me no more than 5 minutes with some minor tweaks, and I am very happy with the results. I use the in-camera converter with minor adjustments in Capture One/Photoshop (tone curve, white balance, etc).
Seeing photos taken with A7 Series cameras, I don’t see much of a difference in quality a slight difference in resolution. I see a difference between my DP Merrill and X-Pro 1 images, but they are both better for different types of shots (a great combination). If the DP Merrills had better results shooting directly into the sun and the shutter speed went up to 1/8000th of a second, perhaps I wouldn’t need my Fuji. However, the Fuji is far better when shooting into the sun, low light, long exposures, and for skin tones; and, the DP Merrils are better for details and micro contrast, and exceptional for b&w.
The 14mm is very small and exceptional – far better than any Canon ultrawide-angle lens I have used. While Fuji has apparently chosen speed and quality over size, I do like the 23mm and 56mm. That said, the 35mm f/2 looks nice and should be high quality as well. If they do the same for 23mm, that would surely be popular.
I find the Fuji cameras to be good size. Personally, I prefer the size of my X-Pro 1, which is the largest Fuji camera. And, even with the size of the 23mm, it is lighter and smaller than my old Canon gear.
If Canon had a 6d without an AA filter, perhaps I would use both systems. I don’t like the blurring from AA filters. Actually, I chose the X-PRO 1 over the 6d, despite its shortcomings, when I made the switch.
Yes, Fuji needs to wake up and provide their own bare-bones raw converter or the ability to convert the files to 16-bit TIFF in-camera. Silkypix is an odd, careless choice – it is like saying they are satisfied with ok.
