The Fujifilm X-E2 will get the NEW AF-SYSTEM by the end of this year! (New Source)

 photo asddd_zpsovzzqt8a.png

Recently Fujifilm confirmed that the Fujifilm X-E2 will get a new Firmware. They didn’t say anything about which features it will bring, though.

Well, according to a FR-reader, who participated at an X-T10 press-event with Fuji Malaysia in June and shared a comment here, the new firmware will give to the Fuji X-E2 the same AF-system already available in the Fuji X-T1 and Fuji X-T10.

The FR-reader also anticipated what has been recently unveiled by Fujifilm itself: the firmware is scheduled to come by the end of this year.

        1. This is where Fujifilm really should have devoted time and effort from the beginning. Uniformity is a huge boon to productivity. Finally it seems that the X-T1 style is taking lead and others in the line are following, but it’s been three years of constant hardware interface swapping.

Would LOVE for everything finally to conform around a single, intelligible interface.

  1. Much needed. I hope they also make it so the compensation dial works with manual exposure + auto ISO.

  2. With the newer lenses, I am pretty happy with the focusing on my X-E2. But making it even better would be great.

  3. Good to X-E2 owners but I wait for X-Pro2 (or X-E3 if we will see it). I sold X-E2 due to poor AF in dim/low light to catch in focus subject in any move and because of X-Trans – I loved so much natural colour of X-A1 files that can’t go back to X-Trans colour which look artifical to me. Not much hope X-Pro2 will get Bayer CFA but who knows… maybe Fuji will decide to put Bayer in X-E3? I would be really happy.

    1. As it looks, the X-E2 becomes X-E3 with the new firmware – maybe they really focus all their R&D resources on the X-Pro2, and are holding other product lines back.

      1. In terms of product line, yes this means they don’t need to release another camera in the XE-2 form factor/price bracket for a while longer.

    1. I have to disagree with this. But perhaps it is because I use adapted lenses. The X-T1’s EVF is large, but still just as low resolution as the X-E2, which means that the larger magnification shows up the pixels to a higher degree.

If that’s okay with you, good. There are, however, a number of people to whom clearly visible pixels in a viewfinder other than the LCD, ruin the experience.

edit: added ‘clearly visible’ before ‘pixels’ in the final paragraph.

  4. In the name of all things holey, please Fuji fix the view mode so review is done on LCD! Adding some of the v 4.0 focusing features would be great anything more is candy 🙂

And Fuji, Thank you all for your commitment to excellence and customers 😀

  5. I’m patiently waiting for a firmware update to the x100t so you can view menus on the rear LCD instead of only in the EVF. The x100 and x100s never had this issue so it boggles my mind that it’s taken this long to address/fix on the x100t.

Wonder if there will be an XPro1 update to further improve AF or if it’s maxxed out?

    1. XT-1 does the same thing. X-Pro 1 worked normally: menu on the LCD, everything else in the EVF.

Not sure what gives. Even the Leica M240 works that way when using the optional EVF.

      1. Don’t know about that. What menu are we talking about? I’ve always had my X-T1 menu appear on the LCD. I press “Menu” and it appears on the LCD. I press the “Q” button, it appears on the LCD. I believe that your camera settings are incorrectly set for this. Put my eye to the viewfinder and it goes away, take my eye away and it returns.

      1. That is wrong. The only way you can have the menu appear on the rear screen of the x100t is to have it on LCD mode or the eye sensor. It does NOT allow the menu to appear on the LCD if you have it in viewfinder mode. This was not the case with the original x100 or the x100s.

  6. Absolutely great news. This will satisfy me off till a Range Finder model with a tillable LCD screen comes out. Hint hint. 😉 Thank you Fujifilm!

      1. Wow. Well being my 1st post, I knew enough to stay clear of the video quality vs Sensor size requests, to avoid getting shot at, but I still got a spit ball.

        1. You’re right, Fuji won’t make a rangefinder….there is nothing ‘rangefinder’ about the X-Pro1 except the look of it. I’m not arguing for or against a tilt screen, it’s just that it is counter to the whole concept of a rangefinder….but at the same time I could see the value in a rangefinder camera with a tilt screen….hence the paradox:)

  7. that’s great news. all the more reason not to go through with selling my X-E2. i was having second thoughts about selling it, but I still need a backup to my X-T1 (for work) and do also prefer the X-E2’s body and controls for street shooting. i guess this is the extra push that was needed to justify keeping it as a second EDC camera. electronic shutter would be great as well. but the one thing I hope they do (and it puzzles me why it hasn’t been done yet) is to allow Left and Right nav buttons to be Fun buttons. for one: they do absolutely nothing in capture mode. and two: they are unlabeled. they are perfectly wasted buttons. it’s not like I’m asking for advanced AF algorithms.

  8. We need rumors about the X100T successor. It’s a nice camera but not fast enough, I can’t track my kids at home, slow shutter lag, etc. Well, a firmware update could be refreshing too in the meanwhile.

  9. I’m going to end up getting the XT10 and hold onto my XE2. I feel the smaller body will do well with my Street Photography. But thanks again, Fujifilm.

  10. Well, these rumors make me happy. I would love Fuji to get a FW4.0 out so my X-E2 gets some more use again. Go, Fuji!

  11. Electronic shutter and customizable Q menu would be another welcome improvements. great news Fuji, thanks !!

  12. This is not relevant to the conversation at hand, but… It would be FANTASTIC if some camera company stepped up and offered something between JPEG and RAW, namely the JPEG XR. This is a license-free solution that offers many benefits of RAW at a JPEG price. (Of course RAW does this and more, but there are many like me who simply can’t be bothered with extra processing.) I personally think it’s about time we all graduate from JPEG. It’s rather old in the tooth…

FUJI has fantastic JPEG processing. (I’m a proud owner of the original X100.) They could step it even more by saving in JPEG XR format.

  13. where’s classic chrome and improved AF for my X100S? Im bummed that it probably won’t get it. I literally bought it a few months before the X100T was announced. Im not rich, took me a while to pay for it lol, and i bought into the whole “Kaizen” blabber. I can’t even get half of what I paid for it, if i want to sale it and buy the “newest and fastest ” but same image processor and sensor model. Honestly, I am a little disappointed.
