For some reason, yesterday a photographer decided to share the X-T1 Firmware 4.0 file with the whole world on Facebook. People began to install it, and a kind French FR-reader, shared the link also with FujiRumors.
Of course, for the sake of science, I had to install it on my own X-T1. But I’ve decided to take off from FujiRumors and the Fuji X Forum, since this is a BETA version of the firmware. The final version will be available on the 25th. Other sites are still offering it, like the Spanish Forum Fujistas. But I do not recommend to update, since it could have bugs, that Fuji still has to sort out. It could damage your camera, and no warranty will cover it. Just wait a few more days.
I hope to find some time later today, to test it by myself. What I can say so far, is that in AF-S the 35F1.4 for sure feels more responsive. Still have to do proper AF-Tracking tests.
Anyway, I’m not the only one with FW 4.0, and more feedback can be read in the comments of this FXF thread. I’ll share a few here… to read all the comments click here.
FXF member johan:
“The 35mm does not pulse back and force anymore it just locks on!! amazing!! 🙂.”
FXF member absolutic:
“Here are my results so far. I only have 3 Fuji X lenses currently.
35/1.4 the most dramatic change. Lens just gets to focus without rocking back and forth. Amazing for this lens. All of the sudden it is like a different lens!!!
18-135. I tried to lower the light in my bedroom and focus at tele end. It is usually a slow lens to focus in low light. Result – much quicker acquisition.
56/1.2 seems to be no changes whatsoever with how that lens focused with previous firmware.”

I’ve read the comments, too. Good news, again! Happy to see Fujifilm cares about Fuji X users, happy to use Fujifilm products, happy to have made the switch from DSLR to Mirrorless (Fuji) almost 2 years ago.
I wish Fuji refresh 56mm with same AF-motors than newer lenses (90mm)
+1
They already have 2 versions of the 56mm, so this update is unlikely to happen any time soon.
And the 56 is not even (considered) one of the slow lenses.
It’s off topic here but Patrick, is it possible to make a poll about a last Update for the XPRO1? Maybe FUJI looks at it and decides to give us one after the Update for XE2?
Yes I hope Fuji updates both X-E1 and XPro1
I have asked this from the Japanese speaker during the X-T10 preview in Malaysia.. XE2 is planned to get the new AF by end of the year.. but not for X-PRO1 as it is a different system. It looks like X-PRO1 had the final fw update already as he relayed the topic that the X-PRO2 is already on the way.
I think that’s worth a rumor article 😉
Let’s face the X-Pro1/XE1 have different hardware component. There will not be any update for them. X-E2 is different story as it is built of the same components as X-T1 and X-T10 (image processor, sensor). Essentially there is a question why we must wait so long for firmware update to X-E2. I don’t believe that it requires separate development.

When slow lens like 60mm F/2.4 combine with X-T10
Not bad for a macro lens it seems…
I think it’s pretty bad that this is considered not bad. Some hunting with Macro in medium-low light is acceptable, but it should be doing better in the normal-infinity range in daylight imho. 🙁
The Canon EF-S 60mm F2.8 Macro on my 2006 (!) Canon EOS 400D that i bought together does a better job.
At least most of the new Fujinons do better, but the early ones should be updated already as it seems firmware is not going to fix it.
This is absolutely good news. Is low light focusing improved?
I am really happy about these improvements. However, I wish that they could make the battery meter a little more accurate. I took my x-t1 to an airshow and thought that I wouldn’t need a spare battery, but then I went from almost full charge to dead out of nowhere. That is my only real gripe about my x-t1.
This is why I own 5 batteries for the X-T1 now. Battery life isn’t great, but it’s acceptable. What’s not really acceptable is the the almost completely unreliable battery meter. It’s been this way since the X-Pro1
The outside temperature could have caused this.
hi Patrick, besides the auto focus improvement, I’m very interested in the feature: expanding the T setting on the shutter dial to cover the full range of available shutter speeds (30s – 1/32000s). Can you confirm it, or anyone who has tried it? Thanks!
yes this feature works perfectly!
Yes I’ve tried it. Works great.
Its the best part of the update.
Too bad Fuji didn’t also include the option to turn off the ISO dial and use the back dial on the camera to set the ISO. Also missing the option to turn the ‘rec’ button into a Fn button, so X-T1 owners do get 3 Fn buttons just like X-T10 owners have.
Absolutely agree. I love aperture rings but the DSLR-like dials for shutter and ISO are a lot faster than the dials on top of the camera. That’s why the X-T10 has the perfect handling for me (in theory, haven’t really touched it).
ISO dial with back dial would be absolutely perfect. You could really control the camera without taking it of your face. In terms of usability would improve a heck of a lot.
Just updated. Now I set my focus mode to the front fn button and choose mode with dials. No need to press ok, just half-press shutter button. Quick and efficient!
