  1. I am awaiting AF updates to x100T to make it on par with xt1 and x10t. Would love the eye focus thing and better continuos AF.

    1. There’s probably an actual hardware issue there, rather than anything which could be updated with firmware. The focusing of the X100 cameras, both in terms of software and hardware, is fairly different from the way the X-T1 and X-T10 work. Firmware isn’t some magic wand that can retrofit different components into a camera.

      1. Considering the X100T is newer than the X-T1 it would be extremely weird if the former had worse or older AF hardware. What are you referring to, the lens hardware?

        1. Mostly. It’s all focus-by-wire, but the way it’s set up in the X100 bodies is more vague than with the T1; older lens design and the tech of the X100 bodies hasn’t actually changed that much since the original.
If you’ve used both, you’ve probably noticed the sheer lag and noise of the X100’s focusing, whether manual or auto, compared to focusing any of the newer XF lenses on a T1. The design of the X100/S/T’s lens is that bit older, the lens and body don’t communicate with each other quite as well… firmware might be able to improve it a little bit, but it’s not going to suddenly work like the 23mm f/1.4 does on the X-T1 or X-T10. The X100 lens design is five years old. They might be able to get the X100T up to the speed of the 35mm f/1.4 on an X-T1, but the newer lenses on the X-T1 are always going to be that bit faster and more accurate again.

The tracking modes might be able to be wedged into the X100T somehow, but really, I imagine it will be the X100U that actually sees a noticable improvement in AF speed and accuracy, and better support for tracking. That lens design needs an update.

  2. I am awaiting to have the option to convert the files to 16-bit TIFF using the in-camera converter. If they don’t provide that option with the X-Pro 2 (or their own bare-bones raw converter), despite how much I love shooting with my X-Pro 1, it will be a consideration when I make the decision whether to invest further in Fuji gear.

They make very nice cameras (the best designed digital cameras, in my opinion) and lenses. But, they continue to ignore the need for their own raw converter with the ability to convert to a lossless file format. Sadly, I don’t think they are even considering it, which is likely due to poor advise from some of their advisors, who perhaps tell them that even Lightroom/Photoshop (which are very poor) are sufficient.

      1. Some more device-independent format like DNG would be a nice compromise too.
At least some with proper demosaicing of the xtrans data. This would open up a myriad of possible editing tools.

      2. I shoot in RAW file format, but use the in-camera converter, as I mentioned. The in-camera converter with minor further adjustments in Capture One/Photoshop produce the best results, from my experience. Since Fuji knows the precise algorithm for demosaicing the RAW file, it is better to convert the files to 16-bit TIFF files using Fuji’s raw conversion algorithm. Capture One and Iridient Developer do an alright job, but not as good as Fuji’s converter, which is unfortunately limited to converting the files to lossy Jpegs, which is not optimal.

Basically the same reason why Sigma provided its own raw converter for their unique files.

          1. Actually, it takes no longer than 3 – 5 minutes to finish processing a photo in general. It is actually very efficient.

        1. In my opinion, that is not FUJIFILM’s problem, but rather Adobe’s and other third-parties’ problem. In my opinion, it is unreasonable to expect FUJIFILM to fix third-party software. Canon and Nikon are well supported by third-party software, so maybe that would be a better option for gear in my opinion.

Nice photos (posted below), but in my opinion I cannot see the difference between those (that were RAW processed) and my own in-camera Classic Chrome JPEG’s.

  3. The program of upgrading the firmware is called kaizen became a bluff. It is now clear that fuji use the kaizen only to promote new products. Initially it began as a program of customer loyalty. For me not will invest more money in material fuji until the kaizen again become kaizen! I wait for the new firmware to X100S

  4. X-T10 tops the “most popular” list right now, but that’s pretty typical for any new cool gadget. “Highest rated” is no surprise either, always spec-based. But the “most wanted” list, interestingly, still has the very same king of the hill. Kinda odd for the site that’s totally measurebation-centric.
