The X-M1 is now available for pre-order at AmazonUK here.
You can read pixelogist thoughts about the new Fuji camera here. From the conclusions:
“For the price, the X-M1 looks to be an excellent product. The feature list speaks for itself: the awesome X-Trans sensor, the EXR II processor, fast 5.6fps shooting, 1080p video with the option for an external mic, built-in WiFi, and even an improved contrast detect AF system that is supposed to be very fast. All that in a beautifully designed rangefinder-style body that goes for $699. Or $799 for the kit However, I didn’t’ love everything about it. The lack of any sort of viewfinder will be a big negative for some. Me included. That’s part of the whole draw of the X-series mirrorless system, isn’t it?”

I’m still waiting for it to show up on german amazon. I just bought an X100S and I’m really considering sending it back and getting the X-M1 with an pancake lens instead as I don’t need the viewfinder anyways, but would love to have some Wi-Fi…
Is it me, or is everything ridiculously expensive in UK?
Nope. It is.
Jason,
Yes, it is expensive relative to the USA.
The kit in the USA is $799 (B&H Photo). $799 (USD) is about 520 pounds (GBP). The UK site sells for 680 GBP implying a difference of 160 pounds (680 minus 520). Why? Is it taxes?
Recently, I saw someone use the phrase “Rip-Off Britain”.
Here is the US link

I don’t see that the lack of viewfinder is a problem.
If you want a viewfinder, well, there’s the X-E1 for that. And if you want it hybrid OVF, there’s the X-Pro1.
It’s not like the X-M1 is the first X trans body.
The X-M1 seems nice if you want a taste of the Fuji X quality at a good entry price.
And it’s especially great for me who looked for a second more compact camera to go with my X-Pro1. Now I can just get the X-M1, mount the 18mm (or maybe shell out for the pancake) and get the same image quality for a good price in a decently portable package.
I’m sold.
It can be preordered in germany at http://www.top-foto.de. Got my 55-200 there pretty early and even as a deal (“spar-set”) for less then the standard price.
I’m waiting for double-lens or just pancake kit. 16-50mm XC doesn’t inspire me as much as tiny 27mm. But for $450 pancake is quite overpriced. 🙁
450$???
Ouch.
I guess I’ll stick with my 18mm.
Worried about the wheel above the thumb grip, seems hard to reach.
Like the E-P1’s mode dial design fail.
Well, more like inside the thumb grip i mean, not above.
They could develop a collapsible lcd screen eyecup to attach in the back of the camera. . Maybe silicon, just to protect the eyes from light when shooting.
It would be a simple, but i think efficient, substitute for the viewfinder.

Well, no, it isn’t. The X-Pro 1 has a viewfinder, and so do the X20 and the X 100 of course.
The X-M1 adds still more diversity and freedom of choice according to one’s needs. I really fail to see what’s problematic about it, unless one feels that there’s a viewfinder Prime Directive at Fuji.
