Fujifilm HS-V5 Tethered Shooting PC Software available in Europe… and how it will run on MAC, too!

Fuji’s tethered shooting odyssey is slowly nearing its end. After UK, now the HS-V5 Tethered Shooting Software is available also in Amazon Germany and Amazon France.

It’s a PC only software, so MAC users have to wait for a dedicated Adobe Plug-in, which will be available (not for free) sometimes at the Adobe Exchange site… or do it like Rico, who explained in his X-T1 tethering shooting article here:

“Mac OS users will have to install a (virtual) Windows machine on their computer. Personally, I was using Parallels Desktop and Windows 8.1 to check out a pre-release version of HS-V5 on my MacBook Pro.”

  1. Wow, half a year after the firmware v3.0 the software is available in Europe… boy that took some damn long time.. and still no LR plugin.

  2. A lot of dedicated Mac users stay away from the Microsoft arena for a clear reason. I don’t see Parallels nor Windows or other Microsoft compatible stuff as a solution for anything – don’t even want it on my hardware – it’s just horrible there is no native OS X support as a tethering solution for Fuji. This comes on top of a WIFI-tranfer that’s one of the most crappy developments I’ve ever seen from a camera manufacturer (and that means something…). Still a fair bit of work to do, Fuji, to a get the OS X-oriented crowd on board.

  3. I’ve requested tethering from the folks at Capture One, my preferred image library/editor tool. They indicated to me that it was a matter of Fuji making APIs available to them, which they haven’t. It looks like Fuji would be better off letting third party options take on this challenge. I too am Mac based with no interest in setting up a VM just to tether.

    1. Agree. I also use C1 Pro and would love to see it as part of that piece of software. They should concentrate on Camera’s and Lenses and leave the software side of things with the software companies.

  4. Setting up a VM…. hopefully you are lugging large batteries for those lights. Now you can jack in your laptop to power that second OS running in a virtualized environment.

  5. I’ll care when it costs €0.00/£0.00/$0.00 and works on every OS, just like tethered shooting with every other camera brand in all other software. I never had to pay a premium to run a Windows program in a wrapper to get Lightroom or Capture One to tether my Canon cameras. This is the one area I still really, really don’t like about Fuji and the one thing I constantly give their PR guys shit for, and I do not feel bad about doing so. Fuji’s tethered ‘support’ is not just a joke, it’s an insult.

  6. Absolutely ridiculous. Under no circumstances do I plan to go to the expense and trouble of creating a virtual Windows environment on my Mac so I can run this one piece of software. I just wish whomever at Fuji decided that this strategy made sense would be kind enough to share whatever it is they’re smoking. Meanwhile, I’ll live without this.

  7. Dear Mac Snobs,

Now you guys know how Windows users feel about not being able to use Iridient on their machines. At least in your case you have a choice of installing Windows as a parallel OS… they don’t.

So release Iridient for Windows or Linux, I release tethering for Mac. Or stop complaining and suck it up.

Thank you for buying Fuji ^.^
