“DI”?
Then a a99ii is just a matter of time..
They won’t sell many if Sony don’t come up with new A-Mount camera’s !! so is this a sign that something finally is coming on the A-mount front ?? in any case the A-mount line up is not overwhelmed, so the same question return’s ” is the A-mount almost death ” ??
Woohoo! Two lenses that A-Mount has needed for ages and two lenses that should also be pretty awesome on A7R II !
Says that these are VC lenses as well.
Tamron has always removed VC for their A mount offerings, it would be a surprise to see it here.
Apparently that’s the case here too. It was more just a note on these in general.
Tamron haven’t made a non macro prime in ages. And Nikon mount doesn’t have these primes in IS and Canon doesn’t at 45mm etc. it’s also a point of difference to Sigma Arts etc.
Pentax needs these for their new FF etc.
Note that “Di” in Tamron lingo means these are crop lenses.
No actually, The 90mm macros have DI and are FF. DI II is for crop.
Huh. That’s confusing.
Is what it is. DI means digital integrated (as a naming thing for lenses when we switched to digital) they work on both. DI II is the crop lenses though.
I can’t imagine the potential market for the 35/1.8 is huge, given how affordable Sony’s plastic fantastic is for apsc. Likewise I’d be surprised if anyone with ff remotely interested in a 35mm hasn’t already picked up the Sigma.
Well this isn’t ‘just’ for Sony A-Mount, but these are FF.
We need affordable E-mount lenses! 🙂
Im surprised not to be handed a whole load of A mount is dead rhetoric?…. seems to me that further releases of new lenses such as these may be an indicator or new A mount releases soon enough…
No
Please explain. lol
NO NEW A MOUNT CAMERA EVER
DONE, FINISHED , GONE, BYE BYE, EXTINCT, HISTORY, THE END, DEAD
Any part of that you are still confused about.
are you sure ?
It’s an indicator that Tamron have designed some primes for multiple mounts, which might include A-mount. I’m pretty sure Tamron hasn’t designed these lenses on the basis of imminent A-mount bodies.
Exactly.
When the best news A-mount gets is Tamron rolling out some low-rent primes tagging along the CanNikon versions, it’s not encouraging. I wouldn’t read this as significant to A-mount’s future one way or the other.
Wait, don’t they know A-mount is dead?!
Sony hasn’t told them yet.
and how exactly did you guess these are A mounts? The rumor on the Japanese site says Sony, Nikon and Canon (it does not mention A or E)
Seems unlikely they would be E-mount. I’d hope Tamron would bother to design proper E-mount lenses that take the short flange into account, not just stick an extension on to a lens designed for DSLRs.
That means they were designed for DSLR flange distances and are A-mount.
I do not see a reason to not stick a bit of plastic to the rear of the lens and call it E mount if this sells better. Samyang are doing it, why not Tamron?
That would still be a structural redesign. When a new lens comes out and they say for Canon/Nikon/Sony that means A-mount on the Sony end — until of course, Nikon and/or Canon come out with mirrorless full frame camers of their own.
Both these lenses are a gift from Tamron to Sony A-mount shooters. Currently, there is no affordable AF FF 35mm lens, and the affordable 50 f1.4 is basically 30 years old. I hope Tamron will expand this line quickly. A-mount needs affordable 24mm and 85mm primes too.
One tiny remark though: WHY DON’T WE STILL GET VC?
Well there is the affordable 85mm SAM from Sony. There is also the affordable Sigma 35mm Art, 85mm HSM. The Sigma 20/24/28mm f1.8’s were also very affordable, but weren’t really very good.
I must say that 24mm 1.8 was awesome to have in A-Mount. Slow and heavy but very sharp from 2.2
Oh and Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM.
I would definitely go for a new 300mm prime
Once again, Tamron and Sigma doing more for the Sony’s pro system than Sony.
Sony own an interest in Tamron and that is the reason A-Mount is always included in the supported mount list, unlike Sigma. Tamron also make many lenses for Sony.
Not true! Tamron announced the 15-30 in sony mount but it is simply not shipping. Same as Sigma 150-600 Art.
A mount is about as dead in the eyes of product managers as a mammoth frozen in Siberian ice.
According to the Tamron site: “Sales start for this lens with Canon and Nikon mount from February 16th, 2015.
The launch date of the Sony mount model will be announced at a later date.”
I wonder if that is code for, “we are waiting for enough pre-orders to justify manufacturing this lens for A-mount”.
Do you have a link for that?
http://www.tamron.eu/uk/lenses/sp-15-30mm-f28-di-vc-usd/
Interesting. Thank you. That wasn’t on the USA site. That’s a rather tepid commitment.
Maybe waiting for the A99mk2 launch
Exactly! This is very annoying. A mount lenses are my first choice for A7ii. I actually went for the Zeiss 16-35 but Tamron was very good prospect looking at reviews. Unfortunately I cannot use one with AF…The Canon version will have at most aperture control with adapter and the Nikon version will be full manual.
Really like how? Did you somehow get a rototype of the 15-30/2.8 lens in sony mount?
I seriously doubt if these lenses will ever ship in A mount if that is what you meant by professional. I actually do not know of a single pro grade body in A mount system since Maxxum 9.
There are companies that still make parts for restoring classic cars.
These lenses can be used to restore your classic A mount cameras. As an added bonus they can also be used on your new E mount camera.
That’s a low blow if I saw so myself.
We are at the stage where Sony has stopped making A mount cameras.
For whatever reasons they have they are not willing to yell consumers of that decision, and until they do somme people will still choose to continue to believe there will br another A mount camera.
Even Admin still continues to post rumors of a non existant future A mount camera…in fact he recentlyposted a roadmap showing an A mount camera to be released in September.
I would like to be wrong, as I am an A mount user, but even as an A mount user I amnot sure I would buy one over the E mount equivelent that has a much bigger choice of available lenses.
The only reason left to choose A mount is to not have to use adapters.
AF speed has just about caught up and soon, possibly with this next E mount camera…will exceed the capability of dslr or dslt autofocus.
Sony broke a giant mirrot…is that not a big enough hint?
Sony wants to replace Canondslr cameras with Sony mirrorless cameras….so how can they possibly continue to make A mount cameras and ask Canon users to buy E mount…?
A mount lenses can still be used on E mount cameras and aresmaller…shorter…than an E mount lens
Yes, they broke a mirror. A mount doesn’t use mirrors though- it’s a beam splitter.
With that said, A mount deserves more innovation. 5 axis, more direct controls, state of the art AF. Sony has it all and they don’t need to compromise for size. No one will care if it grows in size or fails to shrink to D750 proportions.
Adapters are fine- but they are a compromise. It depends on what you are doing with them. They are another point of potential failure as well. After having the LAEA4 adapter konk out on me twice during a wedding that was it for me.
I’m not kidding myself here. I think A mount is dead. You don’t need sales charts or a Sony rep.’s statement to figure that out. SLT was polarizing- I think they lost people over it. I call that backwards innovation. I love the cameras, but I’ve sold most of my A mount gear off. With that said, I don’t see myself returning to FE mount either.
Most likely Nikon is my future because of the whole package. I don’t care if it has a mirror or not.
Speaking of EVF advantages:
1) Preview is JPEG (crushes shadows by the way- not a realistic preview)
2) Broad daylight I almost always under expose by -.5 or 1 full stop. I don’t need an EVF to tell me to do that. If I don’t want to clip high or low- I need to bracket. Still no way around it.
3) Using flash? Besides exposing for the background (which I can do with liveview on an OVF- no advantage)
4) I chimp just as much with an EVF
5) Fast action- you cannot adjust fast enough anyway for quick changes in exposure in A or S mode. Take pic, adjust and set in M mode- shoot away.
If I have the time to magnify- then I have time to hit live view on a Nikon or Canon (I have one canon).
the EVF gaining up on you in low light is indeed an advantage. It’s like seeing in the dark. I can’t argue there but I find that type of application limited as well.
Mirror less is the future because it’s cheaper to manufacture. All of the marketing B.S. is secondary.
A mount IMO is the best of both worlds. I would have loved to see sony continue a traditional high spec OVF and EVF dslr. Cut no one out of the market. It’s unrealistic I know, but a900 was a fantastic user experience and the SLT’s offer yet another unique take on the traditional DSLR. So sad it has to end this way.
Sony will likely kill the A mount because there’s no need for the semi transparent mirror technology now.
They can do an A99 body (more rugged, better sealed, bigger batteries, more access to features on body) with an E mount and the A7RII sensor and call it a day, they could even ship it with a LA-EA3 and call it a day.
45mm might turn out to be very popular on full frame 🙂

New lenses !!! and No New Amount camera’s ?? what the F… is going on with Sony ?
OK something special is cooking in the AMount camp. Tamron has always a close relationship with Minolta and Sony. Their latest zoom, 15-30, focuses and zooms in AMount direction, unlike the 24-70/70-200 SP’s.
Mark my words, with these small SP grade primes, AMount is surely about to release new bodies, and I’ll bet some very small like a33, a55 size full frame. Sony isn’t so blind to not see all the complaints about EMount size and small mount complaints. Sony knows the limitations of EMount can’t let it outgrow itself. That’s where AMount will pick up again… to address the shortcomings the EMount can’t accommodate. Get ready for some new AMount cams soon!
I’d guess if these were released for e-mount they would sell like hot cakes if the would perform. I would one 45mm please.
Lot of questions come up. When will the Sony versions ship if at all (15-30/2.8 is not available in Sony mounts)? Will these be A or E mount lenses? We know Tamron is partially owned by Sony and marketing people are renowned world over for doing the most weird thing one can imagine e.g. ship DSLR lenses with mirrorless adapter build in.
No these will be A mount lenses i.e. for DSLR cameras like Canon and Nikon. The Sony version is probably incidental as its not very difficult to adapt this lens for different mounts.
I seriously doubt its easy to come with a mirrorless adapted version of the lens considering the two use very different focusing systems.
However if you get the A7rII you can get fast AF with the LAEA3 adapter.
35 -45… so near…. i dont understand the mind of creator… photographers and cinematographers like 24 or 85mm… or just 50mm.
so near??? you are either on drugs or your eyes are defective :/
Please do grab your kit lens (becuase I doubt you have anything else) and see the difference between 45 and 35…
Ugh…
45mm is a very useful focal length! lets hope its pancake style =)
45 mm is almost FF. 42,5mm is FF. But i am waiting for the 35mm and the 50mm Batis lenses. Then i got every lens that i realy need
I think Zeiss is trying to avoid confrontation with the FE 55/1.8 lens.
If they release a 50mm Batis which cannot stand up against Sony’s mini-otus, it would be a smear in their Batis lineup.
Give us an 42,5 mm Batis lens then. Because 50 mm is on the tele side, and 35 mm is on the wide angel side. 42,5 mm is a true normal lens
seems to me the difference between a 50mm lens and a 42.5m lens is about one step towards or away from your subject
So then we dont need a normal lens. a 24 mm , and a 135mm is enough. Because people can move
nooooooo! Not A-mount. E-mount desperately needs cheaper primes!
With Sony itself practically abandoning their APS-C line up considering no APS-C E mount lenses have come out for a while now, Tamron and Sigma have little incentive to make lenses for E mount unless its for FE mount which Sony does seem to be focusing on now.
Sony said they will focus on Full Frame but never said it will kill their APS-C line…
You people are so paranoid… Nikon did the same statement some time ago that they would focus on doing a strong FF presence in the market and paranoid people like you thought they were killing their APS-C line, today Nikon has a lot of full frame cameras and a lot of APS-C cameras.
Don’t be dumbie dumb
Sony never said they will kill their A mount line up either.
And there’s a new A mount camera… so BrendonF how does that paranoid crazy talk of you looks like now?
Paranoid crazy talk? Ok keep believing that the A mount is anything but dead. Sony Australia has stopped selling A mount products. This Sony A68 is still to see the light of day in the US.
The A mount is dead you just don’t seem to get it yet. Where are the lens launches if its still alive? A few updated lenses based on existing designs at much higher prices doesn’t mean A mount is alive.
Lololooool Here in Europe they sell them in every photo store… I would tend to think you know Australia isnt the world… And maybe if you were sane you could think: “geez maybe us, aussies, arent buying enough of those Sony cameras to keep em in our market like the rest of the world”.
Just dont forget to use your tinfoil hat, keep believing in the yeti and remember the truth is out there 😉
Whaaat, didn’t they received the memo?!
Alright! Watch out Sigma- Tamron is on the rise.
Maybe they didn’t get the memo about A-mount…
Exactly. I say, if we do not see any new a-mount bodies or lenses from
Sony before the end of the year, A-mount is dead.
True. They got the memo about Leica though. Safari edtions are on their way out.
Weird. Maybe that 45mm is actually E-mount? That would make sense. I believe A-mount doesn’t have a fast, affordable FF moderate-wide option and E-mount doesn’t have an affordable “normal” option.
No its not E mount. E mount is not a commercially viable mount just yet for a mass market brand like Tamron. Tamron makes lenses for DSLR cameras and the A mount just happens to be a DSLR mount so adapting the Canon/Nikon version for A mount doesn’t require much effort.
Commercially viable mean sellable right? FE’s are on backorder and lenses can’t be kept in stock. A mounts are rotting on the shelves. Define “commercially viable”. I guess I don’t understand. Then again I never really did understand Tamron and their offerings. Thanks
Lets say Tamron makes an E mount lens. Whats the target audience ? Only E mount users and maybe Fujifilm users if they can adapt the lenses.
Olympus users won’t be concerned with a lens made for APS-C sensors so your market is just these Sony and Fuji. Samsung has closed their mount so no one can make 3rd party lenses for them.
Now look at A mount. The A mount version of this lens will hardly sell. BUT the main target is the Canon and Nikon market which is a huge magnitude more than the small E mount lens market. THAT is what Tamron is after.
The A mount version is purely incidental as its not difficult to adapt the same Canon and Nikon mount lens to A mount.
B&H still keep sending me updates on the 15-30. They’ll never get that thing in A mount. I’m really hoping before the holidays.
Funny to see “A-mount is dead” guys are still commenting
Why? Did it spring into life without anybody noticing?
It’s always spring in my point of view , land full of tulips and I can smell A-mount lilac some where around
This is so sad to watch…
2 points
1)the 45mm might actually be 42.5mm or similer, but rounded up
2) they should work fine with lae3/1 on e mount, so not sure why people are so wanting it in e mount so much
The latest tamron 90mm macro works just fine w/ laea3 adapter and a7rII (phase detection). No autofocus for video though
It would still sell a tiny fraction of the lenses they would sell for Canon and Nikon users. So 100% these two lenses will be for DSLRs only.
A mount camera lenses are purely incidental. These are made for Canon and Nikon users with the Sony version purely because its easy to adapt this lens to different camera mounts.
Seems like the biggest selling cameras in the world now would be E or FE mount. The Sony A7 series has started a revolution in cameras (like it or not).
If I’m Tamron and want to sell lenses I offer lenses for FE mount which is burgeoning. Heck, Zeiss cannot get glass to the market fast enough to sell. Tamron should give them a run. Instead it seems like Tamron (can we call them ALSORAN?). Is offering glass for a legacy format. UGH!
even if they are, there would still be a huge amount more dslrs about than fe cameras.
just use a lae3 with them anyways
They will sell more in EF and F mount, which still has a bigger user base than FE.
Of course EF and F are the kings of all pro-and sumer camera brands but now…Sony seems to have an FE thing going on and they NEED lenses. Every other platform is spoken for….though A mount like it or not is getting backburnered or just replaced. Remember Sony is a company with a history of introducing great products and then bailing on them, making one great prototype hit camera (Sony R1) and never following it up. It does seem like they’re going for it on the FE front though. I think Tamron/Sigma would be wise to try and get on board.
Like it or not, EF and F mount is where the gold still is.
why the mother f*** not FE lenses?
because Tamron probably made those for Canon EF and Nikon F mount, and A-mount availability will be an added value since Sony has a large stake in Tamron shares.
Since they are SLR design, why should they offer it in FE mount since you can use it with an adapter anyways just like any other SLR lens. That way, if you’re using your camera in cropped mode, you can put a Speed Booster and get back the FF FOV, or in case you don’t want to use it in E-mount anymore, you have the chance to use it on other cameras.
Being a SLR design also means that if they offered an E-mount version, they had to put a built-in barrel extender and that means a little bit of re-engineering and higher manufacturing costs.
So what you can use an adapter? The good one costs 500 bucks and its not even as good performance as with a native lens, not to mention it adds a lot of bulk. It’s not too much to ask for some native lenses. The “their are adapters” bullshit needs to stop.
Yes it is too much to ask since making lenses for E-mount only is quite volatile. Another manufacturer must step in the fullframe mirrorless market. As you can see, the very first few lenses from Sigma and Tamron for mirrorless were made for both m4/3 and E-mount. Obviously m4/3 users were pissed off by the awkward aperture/focal distance. And for some reason they haven’t made lenses for Fuji.
Rumor says Sony, Nikon and canon on the Japanese site. It does not mention a or e mount. Also Tamron seem to have stopped a mount lenses altigether
Three things:
1. These lenses are not made only for A-mount, they will be probably made mainly for EF and F mount users (Canon and Nikon). Since Sony owns a large stake as a shareholder, A-mount is probably being made just as an added value to try get some sales.
2. Since these are SLR design lenses, it makes sense to offer it in A-mount. If they made those lenses in E-mount, that means Tamron had to make a built-in barrel extender which means higher manufacturing costs just for E-mount, and everyone knows E-mount doesn’t have a large user base compared to EF or F Mount users.
3. E-mount users should be fine using these lenses with either LA-EA3 or LA-EA4. If you don’t like it, don’t buy a SLR design lens and wait till Sony or Zeiss comes up with more mirrorless lenses. Tamron is after the money, and in Canon and Nikon camp, there is plenty of money. And Sigma knows it too.
e-mount got a very large user base in asia, and there are way more people there. we often forget it’s not all about westerners any more. there is a demand for new a-mount in north america and europe, but not so much in asia.
Yes, there is a large user base increasing in Asia, but is not quite as large as Canon and Nikon user base.
even then, Canon and Nikon user base is bigger than Sony at this moment. Not only in Americas and Europe. Heck, in Korea where Sony is very profitable, they have just surpassed Canon in camera sales just a few months ago only. That doesn’t count existing user base, only new sales.
All is spot on except reality check of a mount. Tamron no longer ships a mount. The 15-30 never shipped and seems it never will ship.
Still… it would be nice if they made some Emount lenses…
