Trusted source says there will be KAIZEN Love for Fujifilm X-E2… with a new AF-system + X-E2 Rumor Recap

_ _ _

So let this be our FujiRumors Firmware Day!

After the announcement of the firmware update for all X-series cameras and the XF 50-140mm here, and telling you why you should still keep faith, that the video button on the X-T1 will become a Function button here, it’s high time to answer to all those X-E2 shooters, worried that the Kaizen Love for their camera is over.

Let’s start with a little X-E2 rumor-recap, and then share the new rumor-entry:

  • After the announcement of X-T1 FW 4.0, Fujifilm France answered to X-E2 shooters on May 25, that there will be a Firmare update also for X-E2 – READ HERE
  • Sources told to FujiRumors on June 3, that this firmware update will come in about 6 months – READ HERE
  • On June 18, a new source told us it will indeed come by the end of this year, and bring the new AF-system – READ HERE
  • Finally, Fujifilm itself confirmed on July 24: the X-E2 firmware will come by the end of the year. They did not mention which features it will bring, though – READ HERE

And right now we have a new rumor, coming from trusted source:

  • A new Firmware update for X-E2 will come, that will bring a new AF-system to X-E2 cameras

With multiple confirmation from Fujfilm itself and now also from trusted source, I guess we can have high hopes that an X-E2 Kaizen firmware will see the light within 2015. But keep in mind: the Firmware will only be released, once it’s bug-free. This means delays can always happen, even in the last second… just remember what happened with the Firmware of the original X100.

stay tuned,

  1. Any idea if the electronic shutter makes it? I’ll certainly welcome better AF, but I feel like being able to ditch my ND filters is more useful to me.

    Thanks.

    1. I would not ditch them. There are moments an ND makes more sense. Especially under artificial lighting, when using flash or when very strong ND is needed. Then ES cannot be used.
But sure, with ES there are many moments you can leave the ND kit at home.

      1. Yeah, by “ditch” I just meant carrying them unless I had a specific purpose for them. For general shooting, such going from full sun to a dark interior and back, it would be nice to have a higher shutter speed available.

    2. There is pretty much nothing that makes the electronic shutter worthwhile.
Its a marketing gimmick that hardly makes any sense. It also doesn’t really work well with the new AF system.

  2. Electronic shutter and new AF system would be a really nice upgrade! Patrick, any information if the electronic shutter will make it into the X-E2?

    1. I totally agree with this. The electronic shutter would be fabulous. I’d go as far as saying I wish this over the af.

  3. The fact that this latest rumor does not include any timeframe makes me wonder if we’ll see this upgrade in 2015. Still good news, regardless of the timeframe.

    1. kaizen translates to “continuous improvement for devices unless they are named ‘x100s’ or are low end budget models”

    1. I know they have the same Processor, not so sure about the memory space though. They may have, not sure if anyone out there knows for sure.

  4. Still no firmware update for the XF56mmF1.2 R ???
The focus system is so slow and make alwasy a shutter noise….

        1. Seriously, you people are never satisfied. The X-T10 is brand new, it literally has all their latest tech. This whole thing is about getting the X-T10’s features to the X-E2, since hardware is not very different, those that invested in it before they had a choice felt left out.

This whole thing is *because* the X-T10 got all the love, you daft man. We are lucky Fuji is even considering things like getting the ‘old’ X-E2 up to speed as well.

  5. Hope Fuji will not only bring with new X-E2 firmware update new AF but also adds 32000s electronic shutter and cofigurable Q menu.

  6. Hopefully a nice xmas present! My recently-acquired LX100 has been getting a lot of love recently due to the much faster AF. This should redress the balance a bit…

  7. Please Fuji give the X30 some Kaizen love. Fix the 1/1000sec shutter speed limit in aperture priority mode at wide apertures.

      1. In aperture priority mode the fastest shutter speed at f2 is 1/1000sec but at the same aperture in manual mode 1/4000sec is available. To get 1/4000sec in aperture priority mode one must stop down to f8. Most strange.

  8. I highly doubt there would be a meaningful fw that would add more function to the X-E2. It already has received more fw update than the X-E1. With the incoming new line of cameras for next year, it’s not in Fuji’s interest to do so. The Fuji’s model has always been “bait them and hook them.” They would promise a Kaizen update but would refrain from giving anything specific so u could not blame them. If u don’t like that, vote with ur wallet. I did. Would no longer buy anything new from Fuji. Got an X100S in excellent condition for $500 and an X-T1 and 23mm f1.4 combo for less than $1200.

    1. damien , the concept of kaizan is antithetical to fujis balance sheet ,or roll out plans for new cameras ….it is not for fujis interest but for the owners
of their fine cameras ….it is a gift . an attitude , a philosophy , and a moral stance by fuji that no other camera maker comes close to .

it is why the fuji community has such loyalty and admiration for that corporation, and why when the xe2 seems long in the tooth or gives up the ghost i will buy another fuji body to replace it ….along with many many other fuji owners .
fujis rare relationship with its customers is one of the best on earth and fujis commitment to its customers is simply why .

    2. buying used is awesome…..you still will benefit …..if it was an apple product their would never be a fix ….. buy new if you got the itch
