Hasselblad CEO Larry Hanssen gets replaced.

Ex-Ceo Hannsen with Buzz Aldrin at the Lunar launch event (Source: Hasselblad).

–

AP reports that “Hasselblad has confirmed it has appointed a new CEO to replace Dr Larry Hansen, the man who oversaw the launch of the firm’s first [shoplink 22672 ebay]Lunar compact system camera[/shoplink], developed in a tie-up with Sony.“.

We don’t know yet if this has to do with any strategy change or if it’s just a personal matter.

  1. For his retirement they gave him a special rosewood and aluminum digital Timex wristwatch.
The hands are genuine mouse and sighned by Mickey and Minny.
Since the watch is digital the hands dont actually do anything but they look really cool.

  2. Excellent ! About time ! The replacement is Ian Rawcliffe, a long time Hasselblad man. Excellent move !
I wish, we wish, Hasselblad all the best in the future. Good luck with the new 50MP, CMOS, Medium Format camera ! I am going to take a look at one myself.

    1. You sound like you’re on the Hasselblad dime!

Ian Rawcliffe is not a long time Hasselblad man! It says he began working with the company last year..

The deal with Sony is just a sales agreement that allows them to purchase unbranded cameras off the production line. There’s not a official technological partnership. Thats why PhaseOne and Pentax are both using the same Sony technology in their new cameras.

Hasselblad are finished. Perhaps Sony will buy them out and save the name.

      1. True. It turns out Rawcliffe is a one+ year Hasselblad man. Of course I cheer for Hasselblad, once a prestigious company in the land where I was born. They offered me to be their chief engineer many years ago. So yes, I claim no objectivity in this case.

  3. In conjunction with Hasselblad going to CMOS sensors the cooperation with Sony could be a very good thing. Hasselblad now has the possibility to introduce real innovation in form of full size, mirrorless cameras in both FF and MF image formats. Forget this miniaturization and retro nonsense. Give us full grip, fast, quiet, mirrorless FF and MF cameras with world class EVFs. Go Hasselblad go !

  4. UPDATE: They’ve replaced him with his twin brother from Sony who will wear a wooden hat, leather pants and earn four times the salary for doing exactly the same work.
