Hasselblad launches the A7 clone named Solar ($10.000)

Hasselblad only waited 24h to announce their own A7 clone named “Hasselblad Solar“. I can imagine now the masses of people canceling their preorder at Amazon US to get this $10,000 luxury version!  Joke 😉 I really like Hasselblad for what they did in the past..and I would love to see them work on a Hassy-Sony medium format camera!

    1. Wow a $7000 usd wooden handle

      Very helpful for superior IQ

      Wonderful value

Question – Does Hasselblad use Sony Flash Units ??

  1. I call BS on this one. Grip looks badly photoshopped + the only other Hasselblad thing is the shutter release, name, and logo. Usually their redesigns are much more ugly.

    1. If the picture is meant to be the real thing, than I call BS as well. Besides the terribly photoshopped grip the Hasselblad name seems to not fit right.

    2. HabsFan: “Usually their redesigns are much more ugly.”

      ROTFLMAO

Go Habs! A friend of mine bought 2 seats from the old Forum.

    1. Oh yeah, this version actually looks better than the original!
They should’ve made it an a7r clone but at least this time they’ve kept up with the times.

  2. Those Hasselblad versions look like cameras for dictators a la Idi Amin. Just like the Pentax LX gold edition from 1981 😀

  3. At least they use their awesome shutter button again. Seriously, these Hasselblad shutter buttons are great, and if you have unlimited money, should be enough reason to grab this thing. 😉

  4. Ha!
“Human leather version will blend perfectl with your hand offering the familiar feeling of our better half right under your fingertips”

Hope they wont go racial on us an offer only one color…

  5. The Hasselblad Solar appears to be a step up in corporate consciousness from the Lunar. At least this time Hasselblad picked a promising camera and left it alone. Hasselblad is essentially offering an optional a7 grip with camera attached for five times the price of the original Sony a7. Why not, if your self-esteem requires Gucci, and you prefer that over Leica.

It is not clear to me whether the Solar is an a7 or an a7R, in other words 24 MP or 36 MP, and with or without PDAF.

On second thoughts, the Gucci crowd probably don’t care, as long as they get the one with the mahogany handle.

  6. Admin, I’m glad SAR is now using Disqus!

Only one note: Please adjust CSS padding to gain a few px to both sides of this block. It kinda lacks some free space.

    1. I’m not. Disqus is like one of the worst platforms out there. Not only it’s prone to spam, but also doesn’t give a **** about user privacy and more than often causes some ridiculous problems with loading/saving of the comments (especially if you got poor internet connection)

WordPress comments are much better IMHO.

  7. Shouldn’t they have waited until DxO scores were out? Just to make sure Sony didn’t botch it? (I’m kidding! This is good, actually, a kind of a sign of confidence.)

So, someone mentioned that this was a joke? Was it? I read over Photorumors’ post, and I don’t see a disclaimer.

  8. Fake or not, I have to say the camera looks better with the SONY logo not in the middle of the viewfinder housing.

    1. Agreed.

I’ve often thought that SONY would have a much better shot at dethroning either Nikon or Canon (or both of them) if after acquiring Minolta they’d called their camera division ALPHA.

As in… Small orange a on the body, big, bold ALPHA on the pentaprism.

One of the biggest hurdles professional photographers have, when it comes to wrapping tier heads around switching to SONY, is adopting the SONY brand. It’s like switching to SAMSUNG for many. The brand is a tech company in the eyes of most. Not a camera company.

Over the years I’ve been constantly harassed. Mostly by asshole wannabe-photographers and uncles at weddings. But still. It’s hard on your ego. Part of being a good photographer is having an ego that’s intact and having enough confidence that people trust you when you’re behind the camera, taking their portrait.

Plus ALPHA is slightly reminiscent of ALPA, an established name in the camera world.

Anyhow. It’s just my two cents. But who’s with me? Does anyone else out there feel proud as hell of the little blue badges on their lenses, but finds themselves considering putting black tape over top of their pentaprism from time to time…

      1. It’s true – I think a lot of Americans would like OTHER people to think they are photographers, and to do that they have to have a massive, heavy DSLR. I also think it’s sad that Hasselblad has come to this.

    1. Chinese? I thought Hassy has been in German hands for the last few years? VMCap (current owner) may have some Korean money in their fund, but it is a German fund with European management…

        1. Oh so for the past 2 years its owned by Ventizz. Great so the Germans are doing a worse job then the Chinese BRILLIANT.

Ventizz Capital Fund IV L.P. has agreed to acquire 100 percent of the shares of the Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad Group from Hong Kong-based Shriro Group. Shriro, a long-standing Hasselblad distributor in the Asia-Pacific region, has held ownership of the company since 2003. Shriro will retain its current Hasselblad distribution rights in the Asia-Pacific region. Vasco Fung, CEO of Shriro, will serve an additional five year term on the supervisory board of Hasselblad.

  9. And it has a special firmware that was carefully tweaked by Hassy engineers and programmers. They found a way to improve IQ and performance over Sony’s original firmware.

After carefull inspection, line by line of Sony’s code, Hassy found things that Sony overlooked.

  10. Whats the difference between SONY A7 and a Hassy Solar?

The Solar Model is burning a bit longer because of the Woodgrip….

  11. A rumor site posts rumors, but this should be put on rumor level 0, if there is nothing but a link to another rumor site and a picture. Nothing has been launched, or can you show us the official announcement. Blarrr

        1. Eh.. You have the option of checking other rumor sites you know.. Do you prefer jokes or rumor sites who just took info from other rumor sites directly?

  12. The black lens really clashes with the metallic grey of the body. If Hasselblad were to design and make a few primes for the new full frame E-mount, they’d be contributing in a more worthwhile manner.

  13. Get a life/brain/sense of humor, people… what part of “joke, ;)” do you not get? I got a good chuckle out of this, Andrea, cheers.

  14. Andrea, but your post doesn’t read like a joke. I believed it until I read the comments. Next time when you post a joke please make it clear that it is a joke

  15. I’m no camera designer, but I think I could have done the same design in less than 24 hours. I expected more out of 24 hours of work = ).

  16. I would sell my nocti in a heartbeat for a medium format camera like this. I loved my Mamiya 7, was hoping medium format would go in that direction, more compact body. I adore my 645D but rarely take it out. If it was this small it would never leave my side.

  17. They already have Sucker (Stellar) and Loser (Lunar)… I expect they name it with words that starts with a different alphabet.

    Maybe Crapper?
