Spike: “I have written something to help people considering a move to the E-M1 from the E-M5; hope it might be useful: http://www.microfourthirds.info/2013/10/moving-from-the-e-m5-to-the-e-m1/”

In Soviet Russia, image disables you!
Lol!
lol! Weird that they removed the images. I now did cut the links.
The camera in the video above has dust in the sensor. (At 1:23)
it is not dust, it’s a brick! 😉
Very true, at the bottom of the sensor. For those bricks you just have to switch on off and on again, or use a rocket blower. No big deal anyway.
I would never contemplate buying this small-sensored, over-priced, piece of garbage, as the Sony A7 will soon be available for only a relatively small amount extra.
Thanks for sharing
We already know how small your penis is, Shenkie et. al., no need to keep embarrassing yourself like this as we truly don’t care.
Yeah, yeah. It’s the second best selling mirrorless and the best selling mft on amazon:

If you look at the all digital cameras list it is 40 places behind the Sony A7R

I would not be rushing to the Sony the images so far look pretty poor compared to D800 ETC
The A7 is great and has a better sensor, can not argue with the better sensor part. I just do not know where Sony is going with the camera’s, notice the complete lack of APS-C e mount upgrades announced? The lack of actual new APS-C lens from sony? They make good stuff but I really need to see them flesh out a system, I think the A mount is headed towards the dust bin of camera’s I do not see them loosing money in the camera department and keeping two competing ‘systems’ going.
I might upgrade to a Sony FF in two years, because it takes two years to figure out if Sony is serious or not.
Are you really that stupid, or just a troll? The A7 and A7r will be great in very limited circumstances, but will always come with a massive bill for even the smaller not very light primes….if you think it is “not much extra” then you clearly cant add up the body +lens costs….
In response to your thoughts about a small sensor. As technology moves forward it will become harder and harder to notice the difference in the finished product photos. I make money with my gear and have done so for over 30 years. 35mm sensors are small as well and were once laughed at by professional photographers using larger formats. I’m certain there are many pros today that laugh at any sensor smaller than say medium format. I sold all of my Nikon film gear in 2007 and went with Olympus E-3 and 5 because of weather sealed body and lens. I get wet, dusty and dirty on assignment. I just purchased the OMD EM1 and can use my stable of weather sealed very sharp Zuiko lens system. The Sony A7 isn’t weather sealed like the OMD EM1 nor does Sony offer a stable of FAST weather sealed very sharp lens. The OMD EM1 isn’t perfect but then it is a very good tool that will make me money. So go buy the Sony I’m certain it will get rave reviews. It will also fall short in the rain, lack of fast lens system, and total lines of resolution will be similar to the OMD EM1. The OMD EM1 is very good in low light not that I ever made any money in the dark.
My EM1 has arrived. I upgraded from a GH2 which really is a good camera but I wanted to use my four third lenses at full speed.
I have two four third lenses, the 14-54mm mark 1, and the 14-150mm leica. Both using the Panasonic adapter. The 14-54mm seems to focus quickly. The Leica though, seems to hunt around just as much as it used to on my GH2. I am not sure why this is.
Video quality on the EM1 is not as good as my non hacked GH2 which I find strange seeing as non hacked it was 17mbs, compared to 24mbs on the EM1.
So I am pleased but slightly disappointed. I am waiting for people to write some guides on how to get the most out of the EM1.
Your judgement is questionable.
Should stick with Panasonic for video.
The E-M1 video specs were freely available online.
It makes sense. The 14-54 offers the sensors more light for focusing. I had a similar experience. Out of the 4/3 lenses I own the only ones which focus promptly in low light are the PanaLeica 25 and, quite interestingly, the 50 macro. Even the 12-60 is rather useless at the long end except in daylight so I’m not surprised to read about the 14-150.
Video performance is more than enough for my humble needs. If you’re in PAL territory just shoot at shutter priority and set shutter speed to 1/50 or 1/100.
Remember that your system isn’t weather-proofed until you replace your Four-Thirds to micro Four-Thirds adapter with the Olympus MMF-3. If the adapter leaks, you could be in trouble.
Yes 24mbs on EM1 vs 17mbs on GH2 (non hacked) ( and non 24p)
I like Spike’s comments. I down loaded the manual when the camera was announced (unlike Sony who had not made the A7/r manual available as the camera was not on sale). Spike comments alerted me to a couple of things I had not gone into. All good.
em-1 should not be reviewed with an 12-50..
Yes it should.
I agree, why test a pro grade camera with a kit lens when it is available selling with a pro lens. Tends to make me think they are doing things on the cheap.

Yesterday I was playing with imaging resource’s comparometer http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
To my eyes the E-PL beats the 70D and destroys the T5i…. do I need glasses?? 🙂
I meant the E-PL5, of course…
No glasses needed.
Look at the eyes of the model, Latest PENs do indeed destroy the 70d.
I thought the optyczne.pl review was exceptional since it includes data on the new pro zoom and sensor. It may have been the first out, and in polish, but still seems best yet for clearly showing salient apsects of EM1 camera. I will be returning to MFT based on the EM-1 system / lens roadmap now.
Wow, this camera is really ugly. Something just wrong. That grip looks like its glued on. It looks like an unfinished prototype.
Awww, Shenkie. I think thou doth protest too much…
remarkable test conclusion from FotoMagazin about the E-M1. I always found their testing the most reliable. Regarding to them the E-M1 is a einsame Spitze.
im back just say RIP m43
selfish….
everybody says that since 3 years…
Change your vinyl 😀
Great reviews, but is it selling? Amazon UK already discounting body only (£182 off), kit with 12-50 (£210 off), and with 12-40 (£259 off). It took 12 months before EM-5 prices started dropping
The EM5 was such a gamechanger that it had no competition for 12 months so they did not need to drop the price. Also it achieved a cult status that adds its own premium. The EM1 faces price competition from GX7, EM5, G6, EP5 etc so its price drops will happen quicker.
