New HolyManta VND

HolyManta VND from Holymanta on Vimeo.

I just got that new press release about a new HolyManta Micro Four Thirds product. And be sure to check out the video on top to see how this works!

PRESS TEXT: ”

The all-new HolyManta VND is finally available! With this lens adapter (initially for Canon EF lenses) setting manual exposure has newer been easier and quicker. Video filming has always been for restricted compared to photography in terms of exposure – due to the shutter which most often should be set to a 180 degrees angle. The built-in variable ND filter allows you set the perfect exposure in second without taking your eyes from the viewfinder, and inserting the dust protected filter now takes less then a second instead of almost minutes as with external filters.

Really smart idea!

    1. No, not really.

Anyway, I don’t really see the value in this device unless you need it to replace three or four ND faders. The more sensible approach is to buy one for your biggest lens and use step-up rings for smaller lenses.

  1. This is such a great design. If only the adapters could pass forward electronic signal for IS, focus and aperture adjusting like the Metabones adapters do it would be the ULTIMATE accessory.

  2. What an excellent way of getting dust inside the camera!

I honestly cannot think of a better dust magnet than putting a door in the side of the lensmount and poking filters in it.

    Well done!

    Dr.

  3. We seem to get more and more addons but none of the universally popular ones.
What happened to lens turbo m43 support? What happened to speed booster m43- eos? even the m43 -nikon is out of stock world wide. But seemingly, lots of all the other strange combinations they made for Fuji, nex and m43.

I think Oly should talk to Metabones and Mitakon and tell them to go on and make the things. Cause I (and possibly others) am looking at the a7/r because everything I want to add on third party wise is available, and from more than one supplier.

Oly get active. Its got the potential to cost you sales. I have my money for the em1 but I keep looking at the options I have with the a7/r that should, but do not exist for me with my em5 and therefore the em1. Sony are also giving away a third party adapter by redemption to assist purchasers who have qualifying 3rd party lenses (canon, nikon and m).

Oly wake up its you who will get hurt.

    1. So you blame Oly ’cause third party (and unsupported) accessories aren’t available for E-M1?
Excuse-me, but don’t you see your reasonning is kind of weird?

      1. Yes!

        Why not?

Sony is backing 3rd party ad ons such as adapters. And supplying them via redemption as purchase incentive.

        So whose weird?

Seems like it might be you. Hint. Don’t take up marketing.

Don’t forget the PC! There was only a world market for IBM compatible computers because IBM declared it an ‘open architecture’ and industry built addons for everything including better system boards.
Interestingly IBM failed with the JX because it was not fully IBM compatible.

        1. Excuse me sir, but you seem to forget 2 important points:
          * Compatibility issues were huge in “PC compatible” world… remember memory, graphic cards, extension bus problems? Third party accessories weren’t compatibles with every clone… even with original IBM PCs
          * IBM failed with the PS/2, you’re right. Not because it wasn’t compatible, just because other manufacturers bringed not clones (like they did with the PC) but direct competition at bus level (MCA vs EISA). Later, extended and expanded memory was another direct competition to IBM (rather than a copy). But could you add an EISA board in an old AT mainboard? Of course not…

          1. he right – reason PC became THE computer was open architecture… that is why MAC remains a minority…

          2. About pc compatible: it was designed to be expandable… Bios and later dos then windows were in charge of uniformisation on a software level providing some kind of hardware abstraction layer…

About recent mac hardware, you should google for hackintosh…. 🙂

          3. Not interested in mac never have been. The original apple used Motorola chips with integrated graphics and IBM used an add in board. This gave apple a graphics advantage initially. However the third party addon cards and high scan rate monitors soon surpassed apples capabilities. Funny how something that happened over thirty years ago still lives in myth today like macs ‘superior graphics’. Maybe the mac graphics have been so bad that when they went to intel chips and then had the availability of the PC graphic technology they thought all their Christmases had come at once……
But dos gave gave Bill Gates his starter money and off he went

          4. you can have bios and dos and you can have bios and windows. The bios was firmware and the other two software they were not sequential. The bios enabled hardware startup and hardware intelligence for the software to operate. Dos being an operating system and windows and operating environment.

          5. Some interestin’ quotes (for ppl interested 😉 )
            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS

“The BIOS additionally provides abstraction layer for the hardware”

“MS-DOS (PC DOS), which was the dominant PC operating system from the early 1980s until the mid 1990s, relied on BIOS services for disk, keyboard, and text display functions. MS Windows NT, Linux, and other protected mode operating systems in general do not use it after loading.”

“As of 2011, the BIOS is being replaced by the more complex Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) in many new machines. EFI is a specification which replaces the runtime interface of the legacy BIOS. Initially written for the Itanium architecture, EFI is now available for x86 and x86-64 platforms; the specification development is driven by The Unified EFI Forum, an industry Special Interest Group. EFI booting has been supported in only Microsoft Windows versions supporting GPT,[25] the Linux kernel 2.6.1 and later, and Mac OS X on Intel-based Macs.[26] However, the distinction between BIOS and EFI is rarely made in terminology by the average computer user, making BIOS a catch-all term for both systems.”

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system
“An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is an essential component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs usually require an operating system to function.”

“Microsoft Windows is a family of proprietary operating systems designed by Microsoft Corporation”
“Microsoft Windows originated in 1985 as an operating environment running on top of MS-DOS […] In 1995, Windows 95 was released which only used MS-DOS as a bootstrap.”

          6. In the 1980s a field tech knew every thing about everything. How it went together how to operate it, including addin cards like IBM convenience kits and such. Also a working knowledge of all major the software. Many users needed help with operation, though of course a good wp user could leave the tech for dead operationally. When networking came along they had to know that as well. The original Novel and 3 com systems both. There was no such thing as specialisation, though some were better at some things than others.

        1. Long ago ppl believed Earth was flat and round, like a pizza… They were numerous. They were wrong.
Quantity doesn’t mean truth, especially with humans.

Anyway, if you think that Olympus should care for a 3rd party accessory that could rise up its sales by 0.001% and build a “marketing strategy” upon it, you’re free to do so (and share that thinking with others). I don’t share this point of view, that’s all (and it seems that, as for now, Olympus doesn’t either).

  4. Nice idea!

My main problem with VND filters, though, is that actually they’re not ‘neutral’ as in ‘Neutral Density’ at all, because they’re polarizers which significantly change the colors, and, more than that, they always eliminate reflections on surfaces one way or another, whether you want it or not.
