Back in October Panasonic announced the new Panasonic-Leica 15mm f/1.7 lens (Source: Panasonic.net). But they didn’t share any info about the price. Now for a short time a Korean store did list the [shoplink 42947 ebay]15mm Leica lens on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. Price was set at $1050. We don’t know yet if this si the real price of the lens or just a mistake made by the seller. I really hope the price will be much lower!

I hope it’s just a joke
Yeah its a scam. Watch out.
A bit late, we have the excellent Olympus 17mm f/1.8. This will probably be more expensive and optically almost identical. Oh, and let us not forget the ‘rattlesnake’ sound the aperture of this new Panasonic lens will produce.
1.059$??? Ouch! Hope it is a mistake… :s
If this is 1060$ then the 42.5 f1.2 must be around 2000$ 😀
most likely wrong. that lens should be priced about $500. 42.5 was priced to be about 1k speculation. 1k for a 15mm lens is outrageous.
It is a Leica lens. The 20mm/1.7 is already selling at $400 retail. The 25/1.4 was 800ish when it first came out. I bet the 15mm won’t be anything less than 699.
No surprise, since most of the m43 lenses are overpriced
Good – that way dirty vagabonds like you cant have one
I dont think m43 lenses are overpriced in general, but I do think it would benefit the system to have more lower prices (or lower price alternatives) in some more commonly used focal length ranges.
Dont care if there are some vagabonds that would get m43 lenses then, because for each vagabond there’ll be an enthusiastic and interested student of photography being able to purchase into this system to create wonderful pictures.
shoot the messenger, not the message…
Seriously, quality optics comes at a price and its not going to change any time soon. Its unfortunate that for too many, even if it is going to be put to good use for years to come, spending $1000 on “just one good lens” is not an easy decision.
This is not to say that the new Pana Leica will cost that much. The Panasonic said nothing so far I can tell.
Excuses, excuses. The reality is, they are pricing themselves out of mass market. It is a $100 lens at most.
Thanks for sharing your market analysis. Whether it is receivable or not is moot, because neither Panasonic nor Olympus share it and so far I can tell, they manage to sell.
One question, tho.
If you know the worth and value so well, could you also enlighten us on the image quality, built quality, performances and short comings?
I think that’s an issue with primes mostly. Though the 7.5mm samyang, 14mm panny, 45mm zuiko and 60mm zuiko are definitely very good value (and the Sigmas). That covers a lot of ground, but the format really wants something fast and good value in the normal-wide range.
maybe this is the price when Leica sells it for their rebranded m43 camera.
Well, the 12mm f/2 was $900 when it came out, so maybe we’re not so far off.

Exactly my thoughts. Does anyone remember the price of black 12mm F2?
I don’t expect this one to be much lower. It’s fast, it’s wide(ish), it’s a Leica. And it’s black :D. Why so much complaining?
That was Olympus going crazy with silver lenses. People were complaining because there was no black version and Olympus came up with a Limited Edition Black, which wasn’t any smarter. The black 12mm was pricey because it was called a “Limited Edition”. But after that Olympus came back to reason and now usually offers lenses in silver and black at the same price.
I don’t see any connection to Panasonic. Their Leica-branded lenses are more expensive, so I’m expecting the 15mm to be more expensive than the 20mm. But that much more expensive? I’m not willing to believe that price on eBay.
Similarly, 45mm Leica was around 900 USD in the beginning. I don’t think it’s much cheaper nowadays.
One of the reasons M43, with all its advantages, foresight, lenses etc, has not taken off but is still struggling after so many years is its products pricing.
What do you mean? There are a handful of m43 cameras cheaper than the cheapest SLRs. As for lenses, it’s also like typical SLR pricing: you want cheap and plastic, get the 17.5mm f2.8 Olympus, got a bit more money get the 17.5mm f1.8, got bags of money get this new Leica. Problem?
Oh yes, people who have never and would never consider buying m43 in the first place like to lament the absence of cheap 50mm 1.8. Hello. Canon and Nikon are using the exact same 50mm 1.8 design since how long? They have long recovered their R&D costs and can sell at bargain basement pricing. Wait another 10 years and I bet you can buy plastic fantastic lenses at the same price level.
ok…so the new m43 leica must have 2k price tag…glad that I just bought 25mm 1.4
a
Maybe Leica is charging more for Pany to use their name on their lenses. If people pay double the price for a $500 lens, let Pany and Leica split the difference and go laughing to their investors/stockholders (don’t know if Leica is public) to tell them what great marketers they are.
And then we can all enjoy the posters over at DPreview who begin bragging about how the photos from their new lens has the “Leica look.”
Indeed. I am definitely loving my 14/2.5 a lot suddenly.
There must be a market for money launderers, and derivatives creators a’ la J.P. Morgan.
Trolls of course will always pretend they’ll get one. Doesn’t cost them anything, there in the plains where the Neanderthal still roams…
Am, cosa intendi per Neandertaliani?
Grunt-grunt, and loosing a lot of imaginary greenbacks from their fur pockets 🙂
Or one can translate in Italian:
Coglionazzi 🙂
LOL funny image indeed!
My 14 2.5 is probably my most used lens, especially for video. What a deal, and so portable. The Sigma 60mm would probably be second. Don’t keep track, but I like them both…and they were/are both soooo affordable.
They are totally nuts with their princing.
pricing – where is the editing function?
LOL. And the 42.5 f/1.2 will be $2500.
I think this price tag for the new Leica15mm is inflated as in I-have-one-of-these-and-nobody-else-does-so-I-can-charge-a-lot kind of way. So it should retail for less than this, but I bet that the price will be a lot closer to $1000 than it is to $500. I am also guessing that the Nocticron debuts at about $1800. It’s a one-of-a-kind lens. f/1.2 Leica/branded fast AFlens…they can charge what they please……
For now, I am just going to keep using (and loving) my Oly 17mm f/1.8 and 45mm f/1.8. I think the are fabulous lenses! (Let’s see what the reviews and comparisons show on the Panny/Leicas, first).

I was thinking about the price of Zuiko12mm, and I think it’s a little bit overpriced. If this price of >1000$ is real, then I’ll call it pure customer milking.
I’d like to see a scheme of the internal elements: I don’t think there are a lot of special elements inside it.
28mm equivalent is odd to me (I know it’s a classic focal lenght), and I would use it only for landscaping. I have better focal lenghts for that: I’m not a lens collector so I won’t buy it.
Maybe that shop just wanted to gain attention. The description has no other information besides the first sentences of the Panasonic press release and the two press pictures of the lens, so I’m wondering if they really know more and if therefore they really have price information.
good point. Plus, if they really are in a position to sell it while other shops don’t have the lens yet, they’ll charge a premium.
That said I don’t expect the price to be off by hundreds of dollars.
the listing has been ended, maybe some people contacted him directly and made a deal on the price? I think its also true he asked a higher price because its not available yet officialy.
if it gets resolution score high than 3200, distortion < 0.5%, CA < 0.25 pixel, from photozone's testing by GX1,
I will buy it in this price.
Crazy… What will be the advantage over Panasonic 20/1.7 or Olympus 17/1.8?
Same as the difference between 25mm 1.4 DG Summilux with the Panasonic 20mm 1.7, I bet. If you can’t see the difference, then it is not for you. Simple as that. Those who can see the difference are happy to pay more.
IMO if they want to sell, price for the 15/1.7 should be 799~899 while for the 42.5/1.2 around 1199~1299.
ohhhh. this price must be a joke ! Who will buy it at this price ?
fuji 23mm f1.4 xtrans sensor endgame for M43
Fuji is dumping its APS-C system and channeling all development towards full frame. Just like Nikon and DX.
Mike, can you provide the source to your claim please?!
I have not read anywhere that they are dumping their APS-C system, the only rumors out there are that they are developing a full frame camera and it will probably be a fixed lens one.
If there is more info, please share 🙂
Source would be m43 fanboyworld. Because m43 is the best ever. One system only: m43. All else will die. According to m43 failboys.
And that’s a problem in this m43 forum becauseeeee….?
It’s most likely not a mistake but rather am arificially prohibitive price that some sellers routinely set on out of stock items so as to not retire the item’s description entirely.
it can’t be $1059 because it’s only f/1.7
i think price will be $699
And some people bitch about the price of the Voigtländers! 😉
I would have thought $600 – $700 for the 15mm. It’s probably just some eBay price gouger.
The lens isn’t even been shipping yet, is it?
Great lenses the Voigtländers. Just got the 25mm. Been wanting it ever since it came out.
LOL……30mm F3.4. Please stop this madness.
stop troll it’s f/1.7, not 3.4
What The Troll (and he is a paid troll, why else be all negative on a m43 forum?) means is that collection efficiency and DOF are equivalent to a FF 30/3.4. And that is actually correct. But the aberrations relative to the pixel pitch are still given by the aperture (the the square or third power), and that is f/1.7, and so that’s what the designers are up against, and it’s what makes the lens expensive. (maybe not really 1k, but expensish).
The idea behind m43 is not to have all optical parameters be equivalent to FF. Of course not, because that’s called FF, available from several manufacturers. If you want that, you go into a store, and buy a FF camera. If you want to discuss FF, you go to a FF forum and do so. m43 is about a different compromise between image quality and camera size and weight. Of course you loose two stops of light, all else equal. But you also loose a lot of system weight and size. I think everybody else on this forum knows this.
me simple not shallow DOf a fail even more if is panasonic
you’ve come to the wrong place. We discuss m43 here, not FF.
Read and learn before you type nonsense. The light gathering is still f/1.7 and you know it, so stop trolling. Yes, the DoF equivalence is not the same, that much is obvious. However, if your argument is that m43 sucks because it does not provide the same DoF as full frame, you are indeed a sorry case.
What is your definition of “light gathering”? When I say “collection efficiency” I mean the amount of light collected (through the lens, onto the sensor) per amount of light coming from the object. Do we mean the same?
Yes we do!
My comment was towards Full Frame, not you (here he keeps babbling about DoF).
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
yes I understand. No point arguing with trolls.
But the thing is, he is right about m43 f/1.7 being equivalent to FF f/3.4 in terms of collection efficiency. For the same field of view (A head filling the sensor in a portrait, say), collection efficiency scales with (D/f)^2 and B^2, with B being the sensor size and D the entrance pupil. But all that equivalence stuff is just not the point about m43. The beauty of m43 is that it is a reasonable compromise between camera size and image quality, and there are all these lenses to choose from.
Definitely, and those “limitations” (if people want to call them that) have nothing to do with the quality of the output of the image 🙂
I agree with you, I decided to ignore people who still claim to those arguments for the sake of arguing a point that (in my opinion) is irrelevant in terms of the results the systems achieves. All they say is that is: “it is equivalent to f/3.4 and hence there is too much DoF” (to follow this example).
The lens is f/1.7, that’s all. i know m43 is x2 crop but i don’t care about DOF. if i want more DOF, i should choose FF or anything else. I’m sastify with my GF1 with o12 pl25 o45 and o75.
It is a 15mm f1.7. It has the angle of view of a 30mm (on 35mm). Thanks for playing.
“LOL……30mm F3.4. Please stop this madness.”
That’s awfully close to Sony’s 35mm f/2.8.
And it seems that Sony cannot do compact f/2 without fine-tuning the sensor to the lens as in the RX1.
Keep in mind that if you do the aperture equivalence, you also have to adjust ISO accordingly. In other words: MFT 15mm f/1.7 ISO 800 competes with FF 30mm f/3.4 ISO 3200. If you look at it like that, full frame is less and less enticing.
25 mm f1.4 entered the market in 2011 at 650$. That new lens should be about the same. Or add 50$ to factor in inflation and the aperture ring.
25/1.4 is plastic (but very sharp lens, i have it, no problemo)
15/1.7 is very small for to be mounted on a GM1 and it’s 100% metal.
As i said, i think it will be not higher than $699. Look price 17/1.8 olympus.
Well…even though it’s about $1000, I don’t think it’s overpriced. Do you remember how Leica costs? This lens will be a steal!!!!
It’s not a “Leica” Lens i.e. Made in Germany. It is a Panasonic Leica-Licensed Lens made in Japan ( I think…not China?). …big difference there…If is was a German made Leica lens from the Leica factory it would be at least $3000..with no AF!!!!!! 🙂
In any event, no one tested the lens yet. Price/market analysis should be taken with a grain of salt at this point.
Why is it 15mm (30mm)? That´s an odd and non classical focal length. I wanted to use such a lens for walking around and street shooting but it´s a little wide for that und not wide enough for landscape. I predict that mft prices will increase on average and classical dslrs (and lenses) will come down (a little).
Who cares? Whatever fixed focal length you take, your composition will almost always will be wrong anyway. 😉
Coffee spilled all over screen, thank you very much!
Haha. Best trollish comment ever. So far.
leica print for M43 hispters 😛 f3.4 in real terms oh i see a system dying and make me so happy
Total fanboy / troll post but you do have a point!
Another overpriced lens for m43 that will barely compete on specs with similar lenses on other format cameras but will not be competitive price wise. I am really sorry guys but the size advantages of m43 are there but the cost for quality of the m43 system is so great that the system is too unattractive.
what advantage just check fuji or sony lol everyone making smaller and better cameras than m43 the only fanboy is you
Well done. I am a massive fan of m43 that’s why I sold my m43 gear.
Leave the vitriol at school and learn to read so you might be able to comprehend what read.
Hi full frame, when you went from m43 to a 35 sensor, did your photography skills get enhanced? Are you taking better photos now?
i have before ff camera for size i buy olympus and try panasonic iq is lame simple
Well image quality is actually very good on m43. My nikon and olympus are hard to tell apart. The aspect ration is what gives it away. My question is, did switching to digital 35 (full frame is a misnomer) did it improve your photographic skills?
I own an Olympus E-P2, E-P5, Nikon D7000 and Canon 6D.
All your stupid claims about full frame hold no truth. You have no idea what you are talking about. The right tool exists for each job, and micro four thirds is absolutely amazing as a compact system.
I bet your photos have a resolution better than real sight using your full frame cameras (although I would be surprised if you do have any).
not true. it’s actually more like f/6.8 in real terms. Because my real terms are Medium Format.
as a padawan in 4×5 inch photography i would also become arrogant to say its a ….. f/ 32 ?
lol
I like your point of view. I’ll add, we should compare to these astro sensors which can be half a meter by half a meter. We’ll end up at f/200 or so. That should definitely be the standard we compare our… our sensors to.
not true. it’s actually more like 1.26 in real terms. Because my real terms are 1″ Nikon 1.
not true. it’s actually more like f/2.3 in real terms. Because my real terms are APS-C.
… start to see the point?
there are no real terms. They make sensors in any size. We all know how to divide two numbers. Ain’t no system gonna die from dividing two numbers. A system is more than the sensor diagonal.
In “real terms” it is a 15mm f1.7. No matter what reality you live in, it is a 15mm f1.7. Let’s recap: 2 + 2 = 4, Water is heavier than air and 15mm f1.7 is 15mm f1.7. So in “real terms” you are incorrect.
That is correct right up to the point when mFT fanboys decide to compare it other formats notably larger formats , as apparently all smaller formats such as Sony/Nikon 1″ are deeply inferior to the huge mFT sensor lol. If the fanboys would stick to comparing it to other lenses for mFT fine, an F1.7 lens on mFT will do the same job as an F3.4 lens on FF . By same I mean same AOV, same DOF, and same total light.
Wait, are you saying you won’t be happy until everyone stops using MFT cameras?
Better stock up on antidepressants, then; I’m not planning on getting rid of my camera anytime soon.
It’s not that I can afford it right now, but you get what you pay for. I am sure that it will be remarkable, portable and a very useful lens for landscape and street shooting. Looking forward to buying it some day. Plus the price should come down a little bit at some point.
Don’t understand the logic behind selling a premium lens that’s designed to be used with a compact camera.
The point is having premium quality inside a compact package.
The point is, most people who are going to by the GM1 are not the type who would spend over $1,000 on a lens. To the extent that most pros / prosumers use m43, they’re going to be shooting cameras that have better ergonomics and manual controls, like the EM-1, EM-5, GH3, and GX1. Although a few might pick up the GM1, the more likely target market for the GM1 is composed of people upgrading who want to upgrade from point and shoots or compact cameras but don’t want the bulk. Or people who would otherwise buy an RX100.
There is nothing is this article discussing this lens being only used on the GM1. And you’ll need to cite your sources for all the other assertions you made.
I’m assuming this 15/1.7 will be marketed together with the Leica branded version of the GX7.
Same for the 42.5/1.2.
Actually, I can imagine a Leica-branded kit with Leica GX7, 15/1.7, 25/1.4 and 42.5/1.2. That would be quite awesome.
Why a Leica GX7? We already have the M system. I’d rather have a Leica G6. It already looks like a mini Leica S, after all. I don’t think that was a coincidence. More like a proof of concept? Pana said they want to work closer with Leica. The G6 looks like a Leica. And suddenly we will soon have an almost complete set of Leica AF lenses.
Rumour category: 4
Its an interchangeable lens system, you may use the combination you like.
Those two are announced/released somewhat at the same time. Maybe you could give the average customer a bit more credit for knowing what he needs and want, I don’t think its damaging that the two are advertised together..
You’re right, there is no logic there. You’re associating quality with size. They are not congruent. High quality lenses make higher quality images. Compact cameras are just that, compact.
It is in fact illogical, from a business point of view. The most likely buyers are those upgrading from a point and shoot, or who would otherwise buy an RX100, who are not going to be willing to spend more than $1000 on a compact prime. The type of people who would spend over $1,000 on a lens are going to buy an EM-1 or GX1 or GH3, not tiny compact with poor ergonomics and few manual controls. And to the extent that pros do buy the GM1, it’s going to be as a second body to use for casual shooting, not for the type of professional work that would call for a pro-grade lens. I can’t see spending over $1,000 when you can buy the superb 75mm or 12-40mm for less than that amount. Especially with the Panasonic 42mm lens on the horizon. Ultimately, I can’t see using the GM1 for professional purposes.
Don’t get me wrong, I have an EM-5, but will probably buy a GM-1 for social shooting. And if I really need to use it for low light shooting, a cheap pancake (like the 14mm or 20mm) will work just fine.
I completely disagree.
I mean, I am not saying you have a bad logic (cause you do have a valid point), but there ARE a lot of people that would buy the camera. My wife, for example, would love to have one. Granted, she has seen me use this system for a while now and she knows what it does, but that ultra compact zoom is also a great hook!
Of course, the uneducated public that will go to WorseBuy here in the US will never get the chance to be properly educated…but, this being the US, people for some reason like to spend money they dont have. People buy P&S cameras many times per year and I have seen some upgrade to the Nikon 1s and stuff, this camera will definatelly have its market, in my opinion of course.
I’m having a hard time following your points. They are contradictory. This lens is for compact mirrorless cameras. That is what M43 is. So people buying a GM1 may not buy this lens. But people buying an EM1 might. So to answer your first post “Don’t understand the logic behind selling a premium lens that’s designed to be used with a compact camera.” Your own reply “The type of people who would spend over $1,000 on a lens are going to buy an EM-1 or GX1 or GH3…” Solves the problem. So… There you go.
Keep thinking…I know it must be hard for you, but you will understand the concept one day.
dont worry it will cost 30% of the orinigal price in 3 months
Shouldnt be more then 400$ (the 14mm is overpriced)
if it was f/1.2 i could imagine 1000,- as realistic!
fuji23mm 1.4 bye bye m43
really, that’s hilarious… an envious guy that read (and post!!) everyday on a m43 forum… hahahaha…
hey mr. wtf you are, have a read… http://admiringlight.com/blog/micro-43-vs-a-full-frame-legend/
get out from your cave and bring us facts, dude…
No. 35mm f/2.1 equivalent and the sensor isn’t even half the size of full frame. Lame.
Mister troll…
The new Fuji XF 23mm f/1,4 R is:
Same price as Canon EF 35/2.0 IS USM
Same size as Canon EF 35/2.0 IS USM
It’s too big for mirrorless.
Even X100s with his 35/2 fixed is smaller. The x100s is cheaper than the XF 23/1.4.
The 23/1.4 is even bigger than the Leica summilux 35/1.4 for Leica M !!
There are days with both bad news and good news. The good one today is that Sigma will enter m4/3 and probably refresh its Merrill sensor.
That will also mean having native Sigma lenses at terrific prices (see DPR’s 1041 forum)
If they make native m43 ART lenses (or whatever they want to call them) this will be GREAT for the system!
Sadly people dont understand. This is “leica”, which is the best glass on planet Earth. $1000 for Leica is extremely cheap!!!!!
It is NOT from Germany.
This is Leica made by Panasonic (license) not made in Germany like the real Leica super expensive lenses. And it’s a pancake…so it won’t be more than 700$. The same goes for Zeiss the new E FF lenses which are not really made by Zeiss in Germany.
@Benny
Agree with you. Leica is leica. No matter where it is made. Given Leica standard and quality, this is really cheap.
You’re joking, right? It’s not a Leica, which has been discussed to death on many sites. Pany pays Leica for use of the name, designs and makes the lens and Leica signs off – someone goes to lunch.
Don’t believe it? Check out the Leica name on Pany’s P&S cameras…duh…it’s all marketing. Same with Leica putting their name on Pany cameras…there isn’t a “real” Leica out there who would be fooled by that, and I don’t think Pany lens buyers who buy lenses with the Leica name on them are fooled either. Good lenses, but not Leica.
Not true, necessarily. The superb Panasonic-Leica 25mm lens can be purchased for much less than the quoted price. I got mine for $500 on Craigslist, but you can easily find it online for $599.
sorry is not make by leica… make by lumix… so there no point such a high price
design = leica, made = panasonic
I have both the 14/2.5 and the 17/1.8 which are both EXCELLENT lenses. I only carry one of them depending on the mood I am at (I mostly use the 25/1.4 85% of the time though).
This 15 seems interesting, like a nice compromise between the 14 and the 17, but of course if it is $500 I will not buy it unless I can sell my other two…and I do not think I will part with the 14 since, like Amalric said, it is too much of a good deal (considering that it only cost me $100 USD!!!).
Either way, excellent time to be into m43 as a format. At least I am inspired every time I go out to take at least one good pic (I dont like to spray and pray).
I could have written what you wrote about the daily choice of lenses. In fact I use the 14/2.5 when I shoot blind with a pocket camera, and the Sigma 19, when I use the E-M5 EVF (I also have some residual use for the 17/2.8 when I want the latter to be smaller).
In fact the 17 would be better suited for street and environmental portraits. However, because the 4:3 factor is more similar to a square, I believe that 20mm is a Normal – others share it.
By the same token the Leica 15mm should be the equivalent of a 24×36 35mm, and that explains the choice. With the GM1 it would be perfect for Street, and woudn’t really need IBIS, although one could match it with GX7.
Therefore a v. desirable lens, especially if it doesn’t have purple bloom when facing the sun, which is the only serious failing of the 14/2.5 (with Oly).
However I hope that the Korean one is just a pre-production swindle.
You have a great point about the aspect ratio…now you make me want to sell the 14 and 17 to get it. Damn you Almaric!!! 😉
Seriously now, it is VERY hard for me to part with the 14. I like it a lot, it does not distorts as much as the 12 (but that is my personal preference) and I find it just as sharp. The 17/1.8 (a friend of mine didnt want it and gave it to me as a gift, so I could not refuse it, haha) is great too, so I need to experiment more with the three of them 🙂
I have got the 17 and the 25 and love them both although sometimes I really hate purple fringing which the 25 produses with my OMD. That was the main reason why I bought the 17 instead of the 20. I agree that the 20 could be a sweet spot, more versatile than the 17 or the 25. At last I am really happy with such abundant lens offering for m4/3. A man would like to own them all sometimes! :))
Another great point!
I shoot black and white like 98% of the time so I did not pay attention to the CA on the 25. However, I am aware of it and have seen it in several tests I have done. I always carry the 17 now because for the rare shot I want in color I most likely go with the 17 just for that reason.
Still waiting for the Monochrome OM-D…lol, I can only wish 😉
just B&W cuz the colors are awefull fact
Yeap, just as APC-S and FF lenses that have CA as well…fact.
I’d assume either it was a mistake, or the seller was trying to go way high because they got their hands on an engineering/pre-release copy of the lens (probably not legitimately).
I was under the impression the 15/1.7 wasn’t likely to be released for another couple of months.
My guess is till $399-699 on the lens. I think it just depends on if Panasonic is going to try to under cut the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 or if they think it is (or is) a superior offering to the 17/1.8.
Me personally, I am interested, but it is likely either going to need to be a resonable amount cheaper than the Oly 17/1.8 or else be significantly superior optically/more pleasing rendering and the same price or barely more. 34/35mm EFL is a better fit for my photography and a better fit between my 12/2 and 25/1.4 than a 15/1.7 would be. The 17/1.8 also looks like it is smaller/lighter and the manual snap focus ring is a big plus for me (especially for astrophotography). I also like the rendering a lot of the 17/1.8 in pictures I’ve seen from it.
I certainly wouldn’t mind a cheaper alternative to the 17/1.8 though, I just don’t think the 15/1.7 will be it.
You guys do know your are all complaining about and/or discussing the sale of a lens that hasn’t been released and isn’t even being close to being released that has been put on sale by an individual. So either he is BS’ing, is selling the lens on the basis of shipping when it is available, or just trying to scam someone.
The only item I would take out of this article is don’t buy from worlddigital2000 on ebay …or, looking at some of these responses, just don’t buy from anyone on ebay because you would probably get ripped off.
m43 ie dead face it even olympus thinking to release ff just look at sony succes it will happen the same that happen to 43 this sustem is for girls
@’Full Frame’ – Your life must be so Dull. It amazes me that you come here to say what you say. Stop wasting your life, Seriously!
Unless m43 has somehow become feminine hygiene product, you are a bigot and a fool. And try using some punctuation and spell check, please. Why don’t you go out and actually shoot some photography and leave the enthusiastic m43 photographers to enjoy discussing gear and photography in peace?
+1
Funny these type of people never share their 500px or their Flickr. I bet they dont even have it.
You are just angry because no girl cares about you and your “fullframe” gear :D. Get yourself a mFT camera to catch at least some interest from them ;).
lol
$1000 is cheap. If this lens was $3000 it would still be cheap. It will be a Leica legend with the Leica look. Nothing will match it. Use ISO 25,600 with this lens in b&w. You will rule the world with Leica on m43. More noise is better. Don’t hate Cheap Leica.
I see what you did there!
This price has nothing to do with what the retail price will be. If I got my hands on a pre-released PS4 a few months ago, I could have eBayed it for few thousand dollars.
I can’t understand why m43 lens are so expensive, as I know the most expensive material in a lens is the glass, compared to FX and DX sensors they have less glass.
No wonder they sell so bad compared DSLR’s, overpriced and can’t touch DSLR’s in photo making, sensor to small to compete to any DSLR in low light.
Then you add the fact they mostly use sony sensors, what the hell, what is the contribution of Panasonic there ?
I am mostly pissed because I will buy this stuff for video, nothing comes close to gh3’s video and I need some fast primes, but, if anything comes out to match gh3’s video quality and price, bye bye Pana, right now even the a7 and a7r sucks, line skipping in video, what a waste of a full frame sensor.
kinda agree with the price… look like paying premium for a smaller package… for lens quantity i find then very similar to dx/aps-c format offering… and some are even better for m4/3… but most of the lens still not up to the pro standard or olympus SHG/HG lenses
so m43 is better than fuji? yhis lens is better than the 23mm f1.4 …..
Admin: I know it is difficult, but there must be ways to deal with trolls who do it just to bother people here.
Many people still misunderstand. Although Leica Germnay gives Panasonic a license for using “Leica” name for their lens, “Pana Leica” quality and standard is on par with Leica Germany. Thus, $1000 is so cheap, and nobody should not blame for the price. I hope Pana won’t set up the price too chaeap. Otherwise, it will ruin the name of Leica.
leica get sell cheap cameras sell expensive pann7 use leica nam3 sell cheap lens expensice just money issues and fanboys paying
now i cannot imagine how expensive will the nocticron… at 1,699? it make nikon 85mm 1.4g a steal
Who knows what the price of the 15mm will be. But I think I will pick up a copy of the 14mm in the meantime. It is not as fast but about the same size and not a bad lens at all from reviews.
I found the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 a weak performer. The Olympus 12mm f/2 is not very special either. I’d rather have a really good 12mm /3.5.
I hope Olympus designs a budget friendly 12mm or 14mm f/2.8 or f/3.5 styled like the 25 and 45mm f/1.8. A black version too of course. The price of a black 12mm is crazy.
