The Korean site Dicahub reports that the planed August launch of the EF to MFT Speed Booster has been delayed. But their sources also said that it’s still going to be announced within 2013.
The Speed Booster can be found:
In USA at Metabones, at Amazon and at BHphoto.
In Europe at [shoplink 40560 ebay]eBay UK (Click here)[/shoplink].

Delayed AGAIN? 🙁
Well… My EF 200mm f2.8 and 400mm f5.6 will have to wait a bit longer for a boost then…
Quite OK actually… Saving up for the new OMD anyway. 😉
Canon.. pls quit paying off metabones!!!
They’re not paying off anyone. They make it difficult for their parties to make lenses that work on all their camera bodies. It’s not a big stretch to think that Metabones are having trouble with Canon’s interface.
For lowlight shoting at 3200 iso which is can provide less noise, asp sensor with 3.5f lense or m43 sensor with 1.4f or can we calculate this or the sensor size always what matters at the end?
Yes it matter look at nikon 1 and why you think canon Sony fuji don’t make cameras with smaller sensors
Is it possible that it’s the m4/3 manufacturers blocking this? All these m4/3 electronic adapters die a strange drawn out death. Yet Sony NEX is well catered for, despite coming out later. The impression you get is that Sony either gave out the protocols or takes a hands off approach. Yet there’s alway been demand for an electronic adapter for m4/3 to Canon EF, especially from the movie types, and I can’t see why there’s a technical barrier to producing one.
Paranoia?
The M43 makers have so much to gain from this adapter, as it will encourage more Canon users to try M43. Even if a small percentage of them buy M43 as a second camera, that could be significant. So, it does not make sense for the M43 makers to block it. They should facilitate and in fact have special bundle deals by packaging such a SpeedBooster adapter with the OMD at special prices.
Yes point here is synergy, folk so have Canon can use Canon lens on M43 camera, and the is also so OM-D Pro is important, the too is an bridge camera from M43 over to FT lens.
Sony E-mount is a fully open standard, so the lens protocols are no secret.
m4/3 is only open to members of the consortium, which means that a non-member like Metabones have to reverse engineer the lens mount and the protocols.
Well, OK, do the M42 thread first then… 😉
….boost THIS.
Fu*k you metabones! And give my adapter 🙁
Never trust a company that announces the development of a product with any sort of go-live promise date. I’m already over their product.
Same with Tamron. They announced their 14-150mm for M43 in Jan and seems to have forgotten about it.
I suspect all the talk of gloom and doom of the mirrorless market is affecting decisions of these manufacturers.
To clarify, Metabones has never announced any EF to MFT Speed Booster. (Care to point me to contrary, please?) It all came out from a rumor on 43rumors.com and got relayed and spreaded out as if it were an announcement from Metabones.
There has been NO delay. Dicahub got it all wrong and you guys all understand that 43rumors is a rumor site not a news site, do you?
I wrote Mikaton a few months ago asking when the lens turbo m43 adaptor would be out, and they wrote back and said Aug; I wrote them again last week and asked them when in August, and they wrote back and said it would be out now at the end of the year 🙁
I am not interested in the electronics at this point. I believe there are many like me who want this version as it is the best to use, it being capable of matching the widest range of lenses to m43.
I think that the manual version should be out right now, not waiting for the electronics. If there is no manual version I will get the nikon version.
Or just not bother.
Do they want my money??
I think a truly universal manual focus mount needs to include Canon FD and Minolta MD, so I would reject passive EF for this purpose. Nikon F and M42 lenses can both adapt to Canon FD. So, I think Metabones should ship Canon FD more quickly instead of worrying about passive EF.
Just make a damn FD version with no electronics already. Take my money!
Yeah, I second that.
Question for admin: No single rumor about focus peaking yet?
it has focus peaking.
Please, everyone, look at the “disclaimer” box of this site to your right: a rumor is “a statement or report current without known authority for its truth”. It was Dicahub, not Metabones, publishing all these so called schedules for the EF to MFT Speed Booster.
It is a lot of fun to speculate, but it is only when rumors are mistaken as news when things go awry. It is absurd and utterly non-sense to accuse Metabones of delaying because on its web site there is a full section on future Speed Boosters and the section on EF has always been saying “we do not have an estimated date yet.”
An analogy is the elusive NEX-FF. We know it exists and there are a bunch of dates floating around (most of which would turn out to be wrong). If you spread enough different rumored dates, one of them would gotta be correct. The fact of the matter is nobody knows when it will come but when it comes, it comes.
Fd better
Well, I still think that they are misreading the market for these adapters. Sure, the electronic versions would be nice, but there is immense pent up demand for manual versions for M42 and other manual lenses… no electronics needed and you would think much easier to make. They should test the waters with more manual versions and get some income coming in. IMHO
If you would like to use M42 lenses I would like to point you to the Contax/Yashica to MFT Speed Booster which has already been shipping for a few months. M42 to Contax/Yashica adapters are readily available.
this delay is unfortunate , as someone who buys gear for 2 systems fuji x and m43 , ive already gotten the metabones nikon to fuji x speedbooster
i can say unreservedly that the metabones is the most valueable addition ive purchased since first getting the lumix 20mm 1.7for the ep1…. its that game changing ..it an amazing optical device.
for those of you on the fence , you should be drooling over this, it truely give a full stop of extra light speed , and deeper smoother bokeh to any lens its mated with this is not hype … by using a given len with the speed booster , or with a conventional adapter , you effectively double the lenses fovs available
as an example , on the fuji my fujica EBC 135mm f 2.5 lens is a 137mm 1.8 with the speedbooster , with a standard [m42 screwmount to nikon] to fuji x hollow adapter its a 202.5mm [fov] f 2.5 …. both excellent both different ..it does this for all my nikon lenses
if you serious shoot legacy glass , this should be a no brainer …oh and it improves legacy optical performance on smaller sensors … improves honestly ….read the white paper , and cheers
correction it morphs from f2.5 to f1.73
I contacted Metabones today, they said they are currently working on a Canon FD to Micro 4/3 Speed Booster and it will come out next week, I don’t know if that is true or they are just speculating. That is Canon FD, not EF, so it will only work with old FD manual film lenses, but this is great news and a step forward for expanded lens options for Micro 4/3 with the Speed Booster. If they are true about this, I am definitely excited, as I have a big collection of old FD lenses that I am looking forward to increasing their focal range and f-stop! After the 0.71x increase in focal range and 1 full f-stop wider, my Canon FD 35mm f2.8 would essentially become a 50mm f2.0 on my Panasonic GH2.
Would be great the EF to m43 as literally the EF mount can support so many lenses via an adaptor. Mainly I think they purposely postpone it so they could sell all the mount first as they know once the Canon EF comes out people buy that and use adapters to put other lenses from other mount like Nikon, Olympus OM, Pentax K, m42, Leica and some others. They kinda want to force you to buy those mounts first, as if they release EF mount those others become obsolete from the first place.
