Zeiss issued a new firmware update for their 12 and 50mm E-mount Touit lenses. This is what you get:
Touit 2.8/50M E-mount:
A firmware update to Version 02 is now available for the Touit 2.8/50M with E-mount. It corrects the following behaviour that may have occurred with the previous lens firmware version with particular camera menu setting and in particular situations:
- clearly noticeable shutter release delays when pressing the release button with activated flash
- ‘hunting’ for the focus point with the camera in AF-C mode
- all Touit 2.8/50 macro lenses for E-mount cameras ever delivered already support phase detection autofocus and the fast hybrid autofocus of newer Sony E-mount cameras with their proprietary firmware.
Touit 2.8/12 E-mount & Touit 1.8/32 E-mount:
An update to firmware version 02 is available for the Touit 2.8/12 and Touit 1.8/32 lenses with E-mount. With this version, the lenses also support phase detection autofocus and the fast hybrid autofocus of newer Sony E-mount cameras.

Yup! Too little (coverage), too late and atrociously priced (except that short 2fer1 deal in the US). The A7 is far cheaper. Put a hole in the bodycap and we are all set! 🙂 No need for FW updates as AF would work in any mode. 🙂

Are sure the 50/2.8 update is new? I updated mine last summer to 2.0. Current Zeiss instructions say that’s the most recent version. I do still see some hunting in AF-C, so would love to believe there is a new update.
We have to send in the lens for a firmware update? That seems ridiculous. If manufacturers are going to provide firmware updates to their lenses (which I applaud), they need to also provide means for the users to do the update themselves (like Sigma does with their new lenses). Having to send in the lens for a simple software download seems overly cumbersome.
Zeiss don’t have access to method, Sony was using. Sigma lenses also had to be sent to producer for update before they start selling special device .

yeah fuji send lens firmware updates through the web, and you update the lensese right through the camera. sony has never gotten it together with firmware support for existing products, hopefully that’s changing.
You realize that’s exactly how you update Sony lenses too, right?
These are third party lenses, nothing to do with Sony.
This is finally killed any desire for Full-frame. Will be replacing my A7 with an A7k or budget E-mount S35 camcorder, hopefully with hybrid AF.

Well, wish I could keep both. I might do this, but the more I read actual user reviews of the A99 I’m convinced it gets under rated. People who use it love it most of the time. I don’t want an adapter either for my A7. I also mostly use big glass. I don’t care for FE lenses either. I could care less about SSM verses screw drive. I keep going over the list and realize all this shiiit is just the same thing different wrapper. However, battery, grip, swivel screen that turns around, build, etc….all in favor of A99. Weight? Seriously could care less. I’ve hiked with the a900 no strap and 135mm for hours in the woods no problem.
Big lenses I understand, it will take 3 years at least before we serious lenses for the A7 and they will probably only do what we want on a A9 body.

Wow people.. I do video production, APSC/S35 is the standard, the low light advantage of an A7 vs a A6000 is almost 0 for video, the A6000 is may actually be better, which I only discovered recently.
The only benefit was the AF video performance, especially for wide angle lenses. With a potential A7000 and S35 camcorder coming there isn’t much reason to stick with Full Frame other than quality glass.
With these being updated there are quality options for 18 – 35 – 50 – 75 – 135 equivalent . Especially 18-50 being super important for me.
a6000 with that horrible codec has an advantage? Let me guess, wedding videos of your sister marrying your dad or sumfin?
Its the same codec as the A7? future APSC with have XAVC-S… Its also one of the best compression codecs in the industry.. its been proven many times. You just have to know how to work with it.
Its about investing into a system, get a whole range of Quality, usable glass that cover the focal lengths I need for less.
If you’re gonna troll at least know some basic facts.
It’s preferred do to cost. I’d reserve calling it a standard for video. It’s not important to me either.

does anyone know from a technical point of view why lens firmwares have to be done by the company? nevermind..i guess the cameras are unable to send that type of data to electronics in the lens. however, now is the chance for a Chinese company to make an e-mount to usb port and sell on ebay for 79.99 so people can do this at home.
The cameras are able to send that type of data to the electronics in the lens, as evidenced by the fact that Sony lenses have seen firmware upgrades without any of this “send it back to us” -nonsense.
Why Zeiss did not or could not do that too is anyone’s guess.

It is an APS-C lens.
But this is very confusing. The announcement says “A firmware update to Version 02 is now available …”; but the update instructions say “No update is required for lens firmware versions (lens version) 02 and higher …” I suspect this is not a new update, but a repeat of the one that was issued back in July/August.
Doesn’t it make sense that firmware 02 doesn’t need update to firmware 02?
Obviously Zeoss is shipping firmware 02 lenses now so if you have firmware 02 you don’t need to send it in.
Therefore it is not a “new” firmware update, it has been available since July/August, and it is confusing for this website to call it “new”.
I have checked with Zeiss and this is NOT a new update.
