Image on top shows one of the many fake E-mount camera dreams floating around the web :
There are many rumors about future camera. Among the highly likely cameras to come in 2015 we have the A99II, A9, A7000, RX2, RX20. But we also have plenty of yet “unconfirmed” rumors about cameras like Sony medium format, Black and White sensor and so on. It’s Christmas time and you are now free to express what camera you want to see in 2015. Dear Santa Sony listen to our readers! 🙂
P.S.: You can select multiple cameras if you want:

I would go for a serious camera, as the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. Not that cheap Sony crap with false colors
Merry Christmas to you too Mr.Troll 🙂
never have i seen an admin score a goal to a troll 🙂
Their number is increasing steadily, good job Admin!!
LOL. Well said, the dinosaur is dead 🙂
😉
Canon rules, Sony not
If you really knew what you were talking about and actually believed what you were saying you wouldn’t feel the need to come all the way over here to say it.
You should not be here, Mr. Insecure CanonGuy. Too bad, your camera got eclipsed by the half the price A77ii. Sob.
In which universe?
A dinosaur, RIP Canon. Maybe they’ll see the light & use Sony sensors too 🙂
Give me an A6000 with touch-screen, and I would be happy. I love to choose focus by a tap on the screen, in video and photo, as on the A5100. Call it A7000 if you would. Being able to link camera to phone and pull GPS info (as Oly EM1) would be nice too.
do it with the computer… one or two click in lightroom
I know. Have done it a couple of times, combining GPS history from phone with photos. But would be happy for a better solution.
I have a900 and unfortunately still could found motivation to buy another camera.
I agree. I’d be extremely happy if they just re-introduced the A900 with the 46MP sensor, high ISO, an articulated screen, live view and updated firmware. No video. (I’m a photographer, not a videographer) Same size, same weight, same great build quality. I’d put up with an EVF but I’d much prefer the same pentaprism.
I agree, E-mount future is EVF.
A-mount future is OVF because of the flange distance and because no need SLT AF in the future.
hopefully Sony will go through their financial crisis and will be able to introduice the more expensive pentaprisms to customers.
Where’s the superfast Sony A99II with 12Mp A7S sensor?
And A9 with 12Mp?
Why do all top cameras have to be 100500Mp?
Not everybody needs extra resolution, which brings down the operation speed
Pssst, don’t annoy Barry. Of course everyone needs high res FF and even higher APS-C bodys.
If the A9 comes with a 46 megapixel sensor, they might as well go ahead and name it the A9R and forget about continuing the A7R line. After all, the A7R had pro-grade resolution but could really use the better autofocusing abilities the a6000 has.
If this were to happen, I hope the A7S also transforms into the A9S line and the big upgrades there would be a more robust body, 5-axis IBIS, internal 4k recording, and the ever elusive global shutter.
Admin, any rumors about an APS-C variant of the RX10? I was saving for the RX10, but was thinking what if Sony releases an superzoom rx series with aps-c sensor… and other tech such as the recent 5-axis stabilization, and the 100+ Point phase and contract detection of sort.
The key to success appears to be Super Fast Auto Focus… They are the ones with the most votes…
I would like to see an even faster AF module than the A6000.
None of them have GPS, so none of them for me. Hey, Sony even don’t´ have any GPS assessory !
They have one, it’s called Xperia Z series 🙂
Sony a9000SR
– 56MP stills
– Internal 4k Video
– Full Electronic Shutter
– ISO Performance of current a7s
– Rangefinder humpless style body of a6000
– 5 million dot EVF
– Fully articulated LCD screen like a77/a99
– 5 axis IBIS
– $3,499.95 USD RRP
Would you buy?
You left out the all-important FAST AF which also works at very low light levels. Don’t think they’re there yet but I’d really like to be very pleasantly surprised.
Also – electronic shutter is not the same as global shutter, which is what I think you meant to say here.
I think 30-36Mp is more than enough for my needs – I just want the AA filter to disappear and those are about the right figures at which to do so.
Also, for that ISO performance, you’ll most probably need Back Side illumination of the sensor as well as copper wiring and 56Mp is just going to negate that gain, in my opinion.
I don’t think you can get away without the viewfinder hump. Just not going to happen in such a small body, unless the body grew substantially to incorporate it.
I also think the 5-AXIS IBIS should allow for a panning mode to be selected. Currently it doesn’t.
Agree 100% about the need for touch screen.
Also, A7sII should have global shutter.
absolutely i will buy RX2 with fixed lens zeiss sonnar 35mm/f2 in sony curved sensor, and A7s MKII with 5-axis stabilition and better AF and improved noise handling than before 🙂
absolutely i will buy RX2 with fixed lens zeiss sonnar 35mm/f1.8 in sony curved sensor, and A7s MKII with 5-axis stabilition and better AF speed and improved noise handling than before 🙂
For me it depends on which one has build in 4K recording, if none of them have this I’ll just go for the best photo camera.
You don’t need 4k, get yourself “photography for dummies” and keep the good money.
Maybe you should look up ‘4K’ first before trying to write a clever comment.
I really don’t understand this obsession with 4K… I already need glasses to appreciate 100% when watching BluRay… for a 4K I would need even larger TV!
And in top of that, it’s a mainly Photo-camera, so lets improve the photo-side of first!
Nerdo is a nerd, not a photographer…
Yes, I wonder what kind of computer and software they have to process 4K files. Not to mention screen or TV resolution.
I’m no expert but i reckon the size of the FS-7 has something to do with the quality of the recording.
A 12 core Mac pro with a GTX780 works fine on 4K raw files, Premiere Pro CC 2014 does a really nice job with 4K. It’s basically te videocard that does most of the work. A nice LG 4K screen for monitoring and two 30inch HP screens for desktop, has worked perfectly fine for several years. The real problem is storage and backup, thats the biggest money pit.
I don’t understand the obsession with claiming 4K isn’t a reality. the screens are here, it has fantastic resolution but also great dynamic range. In high-end productions it is something customers have expected me to shoot for the past 3 years, it is why I want to stop renting RED/F55 and buy a nice FS7. A lot of the videos I make are shows on massive screens, (100ft wide) I want them to improve both, I was in it for the photo side I would have stuck with Nikon or kept the 5DIII.
I love the A7S sensor, the results I’m getting are fantastic, but as a photo camera it is awkward and I had much better collection of lenses with my Canon.
Be aware of the curved sensor. That selfie camera has one, and corner performance is still rubbish. I know – it’s a selfie camera, but it seems that curved sensor doesn’t automagically fix corner performance issues…
a new RX1II or RX2, with 35/1.8? I’ll take one. Sony, take my money and shut up!
I have voted for the RX2. I’ll buy it IF it has integrated EVF (but no a Pop-Up one)
🙂
… don’t really need a curved sensor… the RX1 is already fantastic… so an RX1E (RX1+EVF) would be more than happy 🙂
+1
Yeah. Who needs a curved sensor? That’s not a feat in itself.
Give me FAST autofocus and an EVF and I’ll buy it.
I might consider something small and cheap. The bigger ones are more or less flawed designs, I think Sony is punching above their weight there.
Please, a new A99 with 46MP sensor or 36MP with good noise reduction in high iso’s. pls pls pls.
Cannot have high pixel density and great high iso. That’s why the A7S is 12MPix!
So why does the A7R have better ISO performance than the A7?
An A9 with electrochromic shutter would be a good reason to buy E-Mounts for the cz.2-set…
A65s 16Mpix APS-C with 5-axis IS and better high iso performance 🙂
A5s with no protruding viewfinder, slightly smaller body with mount moved all the way over to the right, like the Nex-5, but retain that beautiful 3 inch screen. Around the back, pop up viewfinder all the way over to the left. Either A7 or A7ii grip. THAT AMAZING HIGH ISO 12MP SENSOR. But with stabilization! Lose the exposure comp dial, but keep the other dials in place. Couple customizable buttons. Minimalist and effective.
That would sell.
Because that would be the best camera ever made. Generations from now will cry when they remember the moment that camera was born.
Please please please, I will beg.
They will make an a5 (cut down a7ii) before a5s. S series is too specialised to made outside the main a7 line.
They need to make an A5s because people need to see their dreams come true.
Imagine that kind of travel power. That’s some beyond James Bond stuff. Imagine all the documentaries that will come out of it. Imagine all the aspiring videographers who can capture professional quality documentaries with a little unobtrusive device in their hand that’s just a bit bigger than an iPhone but it really captures beautiful sweeping highest quality documentary footage everywhere it’s pointed?
There would be no better camera to travel with.
There would be no better camera to socialize with. At night. In the dark. And the moments are real and they’re captured so beautifully and so crisp and clean but. with. no. lights. in. the. dark…..
How elegant. How powerful. Your coat pocket is your camera bag. And your coat is welcomed everywhere.
But more than the value of that versatility and power and functionality in your hand, the image stabilized A5s needs to be made to show humanity how far it has evolved beyond its roots in the jungle swinging from trees. We need this historical marker point.
Er, no. The average consumer would prefer 24MP over 12MP. It will never happen. Just get an a7s now.
I have an A7s. I will never give up that sensor. Never. This is forever now with us. I just want that fixed protruding viewfinder gone. Replaced with a popup viewfinder, or replaced with nothing. Please god get rid of that hideous bulge. And please god bring us image stabilization. And we will never bother you about anything ever again.
And I want to know who said anything about the A5s targeted to the “average” consumer? No my friend. No. The A5s is clearly for a connoisseur.
I want the greatest quality, with the greatest of ease and convenience…… Oh please Sony, please make this happen.
It’s all I want for Christmas.
And $2000 would be a great price. Sell it like hot cakes. The A5s would be the breaking point for a new era in photography.
Amazing 4K in the best stills camera ever made, AND the smallest interchangeable full frame of all time, stabilized, see in the dark reality…… I don’t think Sony’s factories could handle the burden of such demand that would come for a moment with that precious dream.
Are you on crack, yo? You just replied to your self, like, ten times…
My kingdom for a Mamiya 6/7 style digital medium format camera, Exmor like DR, 50MP, in a light compact body. Lens can be fixed equivalent of a 28mm or even 35mm, or if we can dream, a small zoom range, 24-70mm, f4.0 even. With IS. Make it IBIS for a world first MF IBIS.
Sturdy body, magnesium alloy, fully weather sealed. Optical rangefinder with OLED overlay, and that’s pretty much it, a camera for photographers.
If it has a new generation Exmor with even more DR, even better. No AA filter please.
Why would I want anything other than my A77II ? 😉
I agree the A77II is a great camera. I also have one. I also have a room full of great FF A-mount lenses. I would like a FF A-mount camera that could make full use of the potential built into those lenses.
I’ll definitely go for the A9.
For the time being (budgetary reasons) I will keep most of the ZA and G A-mount lenses.
What I’ll do is changing Planar 50 to FE55 and Vario-Sonnar 1635 to FE1635.
As of being no commercially pro photographer I need to reduce a little my gear-addiction-madness. 🙂
A7000! I was an early adopter of the NEX-7 and have been waiting for 3 years. Bring it Sony!
I am very much hoping that Sony will release the A99 MII (36mp preferably for low noise sake) very early (around spring), because I am barely entering in into the industry (portrait and planning on wedding later on) there is still that notion that bigger is better and when trying to get clients I don’t want my equipment to be the reason for my loss. Sure I could argue and try to reason with them back and forth but in the end no one wants that.
The reason I want the A-Mount is mainly because of the availability of options that will be available. Let’s face it we all hate compromises but it will be there. Now I am no engineer, but it would be awesome if you could put all the good stuff (better af, noise, dr, color, features, etc) together regardless of the body size (around the current the A99 size is perfect).
In the end, Sony, just move a bit more of you resources in this department so we could have what we want.
Holidays time.
take some time off and please come back when there are some serious rumors.
I would love if they made a curved sensor MF compact RX with a fixed lens
A55II, with MFA (micro focus adjust), a small A-mount camera.
Just wait for a7000 emount.
Wouldn’t that be a A57II? Would be awesome, but the A58 body is too small for me to hold comfortable, so a bit bigger would be nice. (Dont know how the 58 size is compared to 55/57, but i’d guess not much difference)
E-mount is for you
The A99-II better have GPS and 2 memory slots and a descent buffer. Preferably A7S sensitivity too.
Curious why you need GPS?
Because I take thousands of pictures around the world and I can’t always remember where exactly I was when I took that specific picture. It also is nice when sharing pictures to have that location embedded so it displays in a map so others can see where it is as well.
A smartphone is better for logging location data, as it is always on unlike the camera
the camera GPS works perfectly, why start carrying around a cell phone, turn on tracking, then go to some program to conjoin the data, etc, etc, etc. Hassle. GPS is more useful than NFC or wifi outside the studio.
Then an external GPS Module on flash grip would be enough :p
New laea adaptor with faster tracking autofocus.
Laea adapters for putting Canon and Nikon lenses on E mount camera.
New long E mount lens such as 200-700 f5.6 or 150-600 f5.6.
New more powerfull and fast focus motor for all new A mount lenses capable of being used on both A mount and on E mount without without laea4.
In general we are going to see a transition to all E mouent.
The most important innovation we have not yet seen is complete compatability.
To be able to put any lens on a new E mount camera and still effectivetly autofocus woyuld be ak huge step both towards increasing market share and maintaing the curent market.
With increased competition from cell phones…that offer ease of use as thier big selling point high end cameras need to be increasingly easy to use to compete.
The cameras themselves have become increasingly easy, but sellecting compatable components has become increasingly more difficult…in fact it has become a nightmare.
Most of the frustrated users that switch brands do so because they cannoti match the lenses they want with the camera they want. I see Canon and Nikon users as well as Sony users frustrated to the point ofk switching for that reason.
It is not only driving customers to other brands buit also driving them away from interchangeable lens cameras.
Cameramakers need to start making all systems compatable to encuorage ILC use.
These are supposed to be interchangeable lens cameras…but increasingly they are becoming less interchangeable lens…its time for a change!
Make a New Year resolution for us Barry and change the record.
Not gonna happen.
Talking about necessary changes on forums is one of the ways manufacturers learn what customers want…and make no mistake about it, Sony is aware what is being discussed on SAR.
So I will continue to talk about those issues I consider important over and over again…otherwise they will get lost among the thousands of other comments on SAR.
When I travel with my family we wear interesting T shirts.
When we all wear differrent T shirts no one notices .
When we all wear the same T shirt strangers always walk up to us and say I like your T shirt.
In a garden…a mass of a single flower is much more effective than every flower different.
Repetition makes a point that saying something once does not.
If that disturbs you dont bother to read it..if you dont like it thats not my issue
How many times have you said the same thing..with differrent screen names. ….such as this often repeated comment that I often repeat myself.
Usually I just ignore comments like yours because I have heard them before..try it it works.
All very admirable, but you’re forgetting that a lot of your ideas are utterly absurd and will never happen. So by repeating yourself, staff at Sony are laughing at you repeatedly.
My ideas are often ahead of the times and encounter resistance from backwards people like yourself.
The more progressive of them may eventually come around with repeated exposure to new ideas…the more backwards of them ..like yourself..may never see beyond thier own noses, but will benefit nonetheless when the smarter ones do.
You argue stubbornly against compatability and will come up with lots of rational reasons against it..when and if ithappens even you would benefit from it.
Every new idea encounters this kind of resistance.
For years I have argued for Ibis on A mount, higher resolution, and other inovations that we now see comming and enjoy…and always I have heard from stubborn backwards ,it cant be done people like you who find it very uncomfortable to be reminded that there is another world outside of your nice comfortable little box.
Wow, that’s some ego you have, but I can’t see why.
You seem to think you’re Mystic Barry, but there is nothing prophetic about guessing that Sony would come up with IBIS and higher res sensors.
I guess that makes you the prophet for insisting it would not happen.
Do you get punched it the face often in the real world?
Who is worse…the A$$HOLE that wrote this anonymouse comment or the A$$HOLE that upvoted it?
We are still waiting for you to buy your Canikon and go away. That’s all I want for christmas
The word is “compatible”, not “compatable”.
The problem is, these are consumer toys and you expect too much from them. Get a Canon or a Nikon and you will discover what a real camera can do.
None of those.
But underwater camera with large(er) sensor and tilting screen, something like RX100 II Tough – definitely. Even if the lens starts from f/2.8 instead of f/1.8 – but better if it is 24mm or wider.
The new Nikonos… only made by Sony. I still wonder why no one seems interested to fill this niche. A good underwater compartment for an good camera, for a A7 for instance, costs thousands of USd alone.
The problem is, if it does not fit into my pocket, it is in a different class and not as useful – and there is Nikon 1 AW1 for that. What is needed is really small pocketable camera like RX100 II, with tilting screen for snorkeling (like in Olympus TG-850, only brighter, with Sony White Majic and preferably IPS with wide angles for underwater visibility), and something like 22-100/2.8-4 or 24-150/2.8-5.6 zoom water-sealed to, say, 10m and protected from falls. The current 1″ BSI-CMOS sensor is OK.
Bring out mirrorless LA-EA5 with super fast PDAF that rivals Canonikon pro camera.
Can’t buy vaporware. A-mount’s future likely is grim. E-mounts are of no interest to me. Right now the best ‘Sony’ for me is a Nikon. Mostly interested in what sensors Sony plans to farm out.
…
Ironically, that’s what I think of Sony which explains why I rarely post comments on SAR anymore. Nothing on admin’s fantasy vote list is of any interest to me. I just yawn.
My experience is Sony sensors work better in Nikons than Sonys so pick your wet dream Sony sensor, put it in a Nikon DSLR and, sadly, that’s the best Sony can do.
Unfortunately, Sony’s rumored sensors sound like incremental upgrade bore-fests.
Dream big! Medium format Nikon with Sony sensor and Zeiss lenses!
Hmm.. that sounded weird….
If I’m going to fantasize over Nikons never MF. IMHO, MF is a dying niche. I’d rather see them put their resources into mirrorless APS-C, FF, and replace their lousy Aptina 1″ sensor with something kick-a$$ which is Sony’s right now.
I’d expect to see Nikon do a much better job than Sony of integrating their superior DSLR lens line to mirrorless. At a minimum, improve their adapter’s AF which doesn’t require a klugy mirror solution. Also, I’d expect any Nikon to have superior ergonomics compared to Sony’s boring iPhone inspired rectangles.
A99II with at most 24MP sensor and AF comparable to 1Dx/4Ds. I wonder how many of the guys who want 46/50+MP sensor ever printed photo even on A2 paper, not to mention 30×40 inches
There is one Sony cam that I only wait for:
1. RangeFinder styled mirrorless FF (28-36MP) Pro
2. Fast AF with focusing – 3EV
3. Small AF ZA lenses: 24/2, 35/2 and 85/2 + x1.6 teleconverter to get 135mm.
But I doubt Sony will make RF styled Pro FF soon, so I wait for another brand to do it – hope Canon/Nikon, because Fuji is not going on FF.
Who will make first RF FF Pro mirrorless?
That’s easy…Leica does now! Enjoy!
Except for the 1) higher than 24 mp resolution, 2) Fast AF and 3) small AF lenses.
… and price!
Nikon’s on it, according to petapixel.
Admin, can we formally include an A5s in all future christmas wish list voting lists?
No, because then you need an a5 and a5r. It’s pointless. Admin. Please don’t put up more niche junk that only 0.01% of Sony users want and not need.
Ah man, the police are here….
no more dreaming allowed for any of us!
Even Andrea gave up on Aps-c amount entry level cameras 🙂 Even a6000 looks tempting what is missing is a cheap and quality third party zoom lens.
I`m waiting for cheap APSC or FF e-mount with IBIS and good EVF
Good luck with that.
I’ve been waiting for the A9 for almost 2 years now since it was rumored. I ended up getting the A7S because I couldn’t wait any longer lol. Hopefully it will finally be released in 2015.
The A7Sii with 5 axis IBIS, 12MP, 400K ISO, 4K internal recording sounds nice too!
So many choices! it is so hard to pick or maybe just get them both lol 🙂
Admin, will there be a new LAEA(5-6) w/ the same focusing technology as the A77ii? Thanks!
a7sii should be 18MP. 12MP is just too low for any serious work.
Hi there, correct me if I’m wrong but according to my calculation you only need 8.3MP to shoot a 4K resolution video. So that means a 12MP is more than sufficient for shooting high quality video right? Also the A7S is marketed towards videographers hence the A7R w/ its huge 36MP sensor is there for photographers who are doing serious work.
Yes, I would like an 18MP w/ the same exact performance but a 12MP is not bad either for photography use. Here is a sample shot with the A7S: http://bit.ly/1AlRpKy
Merry Christmas to you and 2015 will be an awesome year for us Sony shooters 🙂 I can’t wait! 😀
You’ve been waiting almost two years for an A9 since it was rumoured? Two years ago the A7 was a year from launch, and you think there were A9 rumours?
You’ll be waiting forever for an A7SII too. Not going to happen.
GR 2.
-LA-EA adapter with no mirror AND usable with the pdaf from sensor.
-LA-EA adapter with mirror and tons of focus points and ultimate tracking.
-A7RmII with 5 axis stabilization, electronic shutter (at least 1st curtain, D810 can do it, so can you) and sensor shift to produce 200 MP images (wouldn’t this be great?).
-A9 with larger battery, everything and the kitchen sink. I don’t mind a built in vertical grip, we have the A7 models for portability. Give us the ULTIMATE camera for everything else.
-Lenses and lots of them.
-Some care about the bugs and feature wish lists so that we don’t have to throw away our beloved, older A7 models.
+1 on the LA-EA with tons of focus points and lenses
A7bw or A7 monochrome. Will fly to Japan to buy one!
A7R II is the dream, preferably with a high megapixel sensor.
I guess that will be the A9.
Dream bought to be reality.
I’m in the market for the A7R MKII!
Why????
??
Apparently everyone is richer than me. The medium format stuff and the a9 are definitely out of reach for me, judging by current prices of Sony cameras. My dream would be a full frame a5 with similar features as the a5100. (Especially Video)
After shooting with the RX1 for over a year, I came to the conclusion, that I don’t need a viewfinder. A smaller and lightweight camera is more important to me.
However, I would appreciate in-body stabilisation.
Plus one on this…viewfinder and the associated hump is what makes the A7 unattractive to me. Hopefully they will release and A5 without one. I really hope the RX2 will NOT have a viewfinder.
I prefer function versus aesthetics.
Horses for courses. Personally, I don’t need a viewfinder, and I prefer less bulky cameras.
But I believe, that there is also room for a rangefinder style version, like the a6000.
High megapixel cameras with 46megapixels or even more seem absolutely nonsense to me. You have to handle and store RAW files with about 50mb each, need incredible high processing power and you might never ever see some advantage over, say 24MP or 36MP. No lens available on the market can offer these high resolutions (compare the DXO resolution scores for the highest resolution lens on the market, e.g. Zeiss Otus, Leica Summicron 50mm APO, etc.).
Absolutely nonsense.
1. Storage is cheap.
2. Lightroom editing is quick.
3. Dxo perceived megapixel is not really scientific.
4. Cropping is cool.
Lr editing is not quick, especially with a couple of thousand images in a catalog.
Try capture one once and you will know.
Actually, I will be trying out the Capture One through the weekend. I gave the Sony version a quick go last week and loved it.
My Lightroom is also getting slower every day, I think creating another catalog should speed it back up. Still, I’m not sure that’s relative to the size of each picture.
You only have one catalog?
That’s the problem. You need a catalog for each job/assignment/theme and Lr can work faster.
Do not use C1 thinking of Lr. Think of C1 as a new tool and you will learn to love it as I do.
obican,
2) LR is not really quick and
3) i regret, forget about DXO tests. Have a look at the spec sheets of the best lenses and inspect the spatial frequency response of the optical system (MTF charts). Then you’ll see these high megapixel sensors are nonsense.
4) cropping is cool when you’re not good at composing a photo
If you’re playing the “croppers are losers” card, I’m going to play the “post processing is for losers” card. Cropping is as valid as anything you do with your files and it always has been. Get real.
Perceived MP is the worst measure Dxo has. Complete rubbish.
1. Storage is cheap…. but it is amazing how fast you will burn through the entire harddrive on your computer with 46mp raw files. Really want to buy 2-3 new external hard drives per year?
2. It’s not that quick. Even with 24mp raw files, it takes about 2 seconds for me to fully resolve the file, and that’s on a pretty fast computer. I really don’t need it to take 10 seconds every time I want to make a small edit to a file. Time adds up.
3. Undeniably, more megapixels will add more resolution. But “diminishing returns” is also undeniable. You get to a point where most lenses aren’t going to be able to squeeze out much detail. There are several reasons that medium format is a small niche market — For 99% of uses, it serves no purpose.
4. Cropping is very cool. I’m actually thinking this might be the real reason for the megapixels. A large complaint about the FE cameras is the lack of long lenses… No 300, 400, 500mm lenses for sports, wildlife, etc. 46mp might allow such high quality “digital zoom” to make up for the lack of long lenses. Keep the camera package small, while allowing reach.
So honestly, enhanced “digital zoom” is really the only purpose I can see in these 46mp cameras for most users.
1. It’s not that bad, come on. If I can shoot enough files to go through a few TB of drives per year, I wouldn’t mind buying them anyway. A few TB of storage costs roughly half as much as the one year depreciation of my A7. Or a few prints, sold. A gig landed. Storage is cheap.
2. Ok my LR is getting slower too but I’m thinking it’s due to the catalog size, (number of images) not the actualy megapixels. I will have to experiment on that but doesn’t LR load up just a thumbnail when you’re editing? Shouldn’t that be irrelevant to the MP the actual file has?
3. Yes, diminishing returns but still, it is returns after all. I’d gladly pay for the A7R if it had an EFC shutter. I have to admit I bet on the wrong horse last year when I predicted that Sony would replace the R with a MkII pretty soon due to its quirks and issues.
4. Cropping is great. That’s the real reason I want more MP.
1. Regardless of the cost, I don’t want a closet full of external hard drives. I like to keep the current year of images on my regular hard drive, and back up a couple years of images onto a single external drive. Cost is also a factor, but I agree it is not a massive factor.
2. Example — I uploaded about 500 images into lightroom after an event last weekend — Just the upload probably took 10 minutes. Do I really want it to take 20-30 minutes just to upload? When looking at my library, I see the thumbnails. But obviously I open the whole image to edit. Not just to edit, I open each image fully to separate the keepers from the non-keepers. Often an image looks just fine in a small thumbnail, but when I open it, I see it’s slightly out of focus. Opening each thumbnail can take 1-2 seconds. Open an image, look at it for 3-5 seconds, then flip to the next image. So just reviewing my images this way, I go through about 10 images per minute. Takes me an hour just to do a basic review of the 500 images from the event. Do I really want an additional lag each time I open and review an image?
And when I take a Lightroom image and open it in Photoshop or another plugin for external editing — takes about 10-15 seconds, with a 24mp raw. Converting it to tiff sometimes, etc. Do I want to double that 10-15 second wait, to 20-30 seconds each time I open an image in an external editor?
I’ve seen photographers I respect, regret or switch from the D800/810/A7r to the D750/A7 because they realized that 36mp was hurting them more than helping them.
4.. cropping….. Pure speculation, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the camera offers a 20-24mp shooting mode for most shooting. And the 46mp are really just used to get digital zoom.
When you double click and go into the develop or loupe mode, that’s still not a fully loaded image. That’s why I think it should be more or less the same with more Mp.
It is when you view 1:1. I noticed a significant increase in lag time when I went from 16mp to 24mp… I don’t even want to imagine how much worse 36-46 would be. I know people who have been complaining about slow processing of d800/a7r files.
In recent times I’ve found Lightroom to be horrendously slow. In fact, it’s been notably slower than photoshop. I wouldn’t look forward to it being even slower. Also, I feel like I’m burning through a TB every month as it is, let alone doubling my files sizes. Storage might be cheap comparative to ten years ago, but it’s still another expensive I don’t want to have to tack on. I won’t mind the option for higher resolution if it doesn’t affect dynamic range, lowlight performance, fps, etc, and if there are good scaling options in camera, but that’s not usually the case.
This guy gets it. I’ve been shooting on the A7R since it came out, I have 2x 960mb SSD’s in my MacBook, easily 1.5 TB are 38mb RAW files. I also have 16gb of RAM and even still the extra amount of time it takes to inspect 1:1 files in Lightroom has really affected my workflow and I have been dying to dump those extra MP and get an A7S but worried that 12 will be too steep of a plunge after having 36 for so long. Of course cropping is great. But 36MP may just be too much. 46MP definitely is.
You do not get basics: the more MP you have the worse low light performance or action ability of a camera. You can have either high MP or an action capable camera: it is a tradeoff. For an action photographer, high MP ia an enemy. That is why people complaining about high MP.
Sony has no action camera with high IQ like Nikon or Canon, but has nice high MP cameras for shooting static scenes in good light.
It is time for Sony to come up with an FF action camera at last.
DXO camera tests are bad enough, but they lens tests are so useless (and opinionated) they are funny.
Ok then forget about DXO tests. Have a look at the spec sheets of the best lenses and inspect the spatial frequency response of the optical system (MTF charts). Then you’ll see these high megapixel sensors are nonsense.
Could we get an unbiased report about this? I’m curious as why their clients include nikon and NASA if they’re so unreliable. A sincere request for information.
In my opinion, they’re not this wrong but often misinterpreted by the internet folks. Their numbers always require correct interpretation.
Maybe the following link is helpful to understand: http://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Looking-for-new-photo-gear-DxOMark-s-Perceptual-Megapixel-can-help-you
So if we can’t understand mtf charts, and their pmegapix are unreliable according to some, is there a rating scheme people trust?
You can go and try yourself, why always look for someone else’s opinion? It’s easy: if you have some lenses you know well, check out the dxo scores: you will see they are a sad joke.
A common mistake among layman is believing that a website is reliable because it sports some numbers.
And NASA cannot even make their own rockets, they need help from the “bad” Russians, between a false flag and a putsch.
If I have a lens I like them I don’t really care about the specs. But if I’m looking for a new lens, it’s nice to have feedback since I can’t afford to buy or rent a whole bunch. Starts out the weeding process.
None of the above – the a7ii ticks all of the boxes for me…
Color sampling sensor
I voted for the a99 II, but I’ve had my a99 for less than a year and still love it! No reason to switch!
APS-C sized higher sensitivity / lower res camera with silent shutter please?
(full frame lenses somehow feel too big for a travel / family camera)
They also feel too big for Pro use. For Me an APS-C/DX 16Mp is the sweet-spot.
Just a FF body with a build in flash… is that too much to ask for?
Sony Medium format 6×9 interchangebale system would give a new life to many MF camera we own, as A7 gave new life to many legacy lenses. I would loved to mount on Sony MF 6×9 (ok, 56x82mm with 69MP) my Goerz Red Dot Artars: 4″ & 6″, and Dagors: 3″, 4″, 5″ and Wollensak Verito – 5″ and 7″, Hermagis Eidoscope 6″, and wonderful 4″, 5″, 6″ Dallmeyer cinema petzvals. Sony make us dream true!
Dream on.
6×9? You got to be kidding! Sony’s present MFD sensor is a 1.3 crop 4.5×6 (44 x 33 mm). The 80 Mp Phase One IQ280 is 53.7 x 40.4 mm, so my guess is that a 56x82mm isn’t gonna happen soon 😉 But you can Dream.
And if it did, it would be extremely expensive. Probably $100K for camera, back and one lens.
Wow, where is the “none of the above option”? I don’t need more than 24MP, unless there are RAW options with lower file sizes/resolution. Oh well, I guess Sony already served my needs with the A7II (which I don’t have though).
Edit: would love a more compact but superior LA-EA5 with A77II AF system.
why does everything have to 46mp? thats overkill for majority of users
All I see is a list of mostly fantasy cameras, that don’t exist and will never exist.
Sorry, but this poll is pointless.
I want to see the abolition of all cameras in 2015. Our eyes and visual cortex should be the only ‘camera’ we need.
If they keep the RX2 as small as possible, with IBIS and without the EVF, and if by a miracle they do something about the color rendition, I will probably buy one.
No more E-mount. Asians are little people, no offense. But for us Europeans to 2 meters big, it is too small camera. Very uncomfortable photographing. If the E-mount, so the only large body like the Nikon D4! 🙂
I’m down to 188cm and was taller when younger, I prefer the smaller lighter stuff if the IQ is there. It might slow down the shrinking process 🙂
I had the A600. perfect machine. but during the whole day photographing reports, I had cramps in his fingers. really small and uncomfortable.
speak for yourself marvays… i’m 194, got hands like spades, and still I will never touch a DSLR again.
Yes. I speak for myself!
possible release date of RX2 Admin? any info (even SR1,2)?
I think I will eye onto a7000 and a88.
A6100 with internal 4k and a mic input. K tkx bye.
They vote now, and they will all end up buying 5D MK4 🙂
Some will prefer the A5 by Audi :p
I’m down for an Audi S5 🙂 Fantastic car.
Why the obsession with 36-46 megapixel cameras?
One reason the D750 has been popular for Nikon is because 24mp really is a sweetspot, small enough for manageable files, for a responsive camera, with still plenty of resolution for cropping and massively large prints.
So except for the A7sii, why are all the full frame options 36-46mp?
I really hope Sony doesn’t go in this direction.
I hope they do make a professional/semi-professional grade full frame dSLR with 24mp..
My ideal A88: 24mp. Between 6-10 fps. Deep buffer. “4d AF” with an array of AF points wider than just using the A77ii module.
I would hope that the “A9” — like the A7 — comes in a more responsive 24mp version, if they also do make a 46mp version.
I do have a specialized need for high megapixels, and can print 40×60″ But I understand most will never.
I understand there are a small number of users for whom it is legitimately meaningful. So I’m fine with Sony offering camera models like that….. I just hope Sony doesn’t decide that re-starting the megapixel race is their priority… I hope they decide to focus on some super-responsive 24mp cameras as well.
You’re an idiot, 24 megapixel was state of the art two years ago. The same stupid tired too many megapixel argument. Get a brain and a life.
I am one of those where it does matter and sometimes need to use Phase stuff to get the reproduction size I need without losing anything. If we could get top notch image quality in a 35mm frame and a light weight camera with lenses that resolve all of those pixels, it would be very helpful for those shoots. But I realize this is not a large segment of the market and the vast majority of those that would buy it, don’t even need 24 megapixels for what they do.
The D750 plastic wonder, no ISBS, cheap shutter, old technology. Only a moron would be impressed by that Adam Brown.
Yeah, that cheap plastic wonder that’s made of the same material as an A7, with the same sensor, and still outperforms and outsells it.
Exactly what I am looking for. Look at my post above. I am hoping that this rumored “46MP” sensor is really a higher MP version of the A7S sensor. Essentially, the A9 should be the best parts of the A7 family combined into one camera.
Give us affordable and good lenses not only cameras
…you lack completely in tele zoom their is no 70-200 no 300 for e mount
…
No mention of a A7r II? How will an A9 compete with the A7R? I mean they will have to cripple features in an A7R replacement to drive sales to the much more expensive A9?
I suspect the advantage of the A9 over the A7r will primarily be in the autofocus system and processor speed. A faster, more responsive camera.
And probably MP
I suspect A9 === A7R II
A9 will replace A7r
A9s will replace A7s
If A mount will die,I will die with it….
They will pry it from my cold dead fingers.
I don’t have any A-mount camera now… but I still cannot put myself to sell 135/1.8, 35/2, 28-70G…
All are great lenses. Hang in there, maybe around Spring Sony will announce a FF, A-mount, high MP camera. If you’r impatient, you could buy an A77M2 right now and enjoy the sweet spot in the center of all those lenses right now.
I will just buy an A7S once it drops in price due to A7S II 🙂
Uh oh, top 3 at this point are E-mount 😉 ….
Summarizing, the average SAR user will buy 1.7 cameras next year. 🙂
(Well, I myself selected 3 cameras that I am interested in but if any, I would only buy one…)
A-mount is so dead. Less and Less ppl are remaining in A-mount, more and more people are using E-mount especially the younger generation. A-mount has no future. hahaha.
Not nearly as dead as your tiny little brain.
If I buy the A9, there is very limited FE lens and no F2.8 zooms. To use A mount lens, I need to use the LA-EA 4 adapter with A57 AF. Sony, come on, can you release the LA-EA5 with A77II AF if the plan is to use A mount lens on the A7 or A9?
If I buy the A99 or A88, I don’t need 36+ MP and I don’t want to buy a new computer to process those large MP pics. I want an entry level FF camera like 6D or D610. A 24 MP, FF, 5-6 FPS, fast auto focus and focus tracking. The price point for the body only should be around $1700. Both Canon and Nikon can see this market, how come Sony doesn’t see it?
A99 is ~$1700 now, but I will not buy it because A-mount has no future.
Real reason; you couldn’t afford the camera is it cost $200. Stop dreaming and continue using your Iphone.
A-mount users, time to sell your A-mount gear before they drop to $200 a piece.
Great! I’ll wait for A99 to drop to $200 and then will buy one to replace my A65, rather than using E-Mount in its current half baked state.
Use them till they wear out…..then buy Canon or Nikon.
Sony strategy and logic seems to indicate that the ILCE-7M2 is the competitor against the 6D and D610 both in price point and specs. The only drawback so far is the AF system and lens offerings but guess what? The answer Sony will give you is to buy the LA-EA4 adapter.
Or, they will tell you to buy a 2 year-old a99 that is overpriced to what the 6D or D610 offers.
Really sad isn’t it?
The A99 is better than both the 6D & D610, better constructed body, better shutter, better viewfinder, stabilized sensor and more advanced focusing system. Yes two years old and the competition still hasn’t caught up.
Advanced focusing system that doesn’t work to lock on, only to assist the main PDAF points with compatible lenses only. Then, you’re left only with 19 af point compared to competition. Yes, the a99 is better in some aspects but overall, the a99 is more competition to D610 and 6D, Than D800 and 5dmk3, that’s why I say it’s overpriced.
I’d love an A5 or A6 compact FF E mount camera in the NEX-5 or NEX-6 form factor. If it’s the NEX-5 form factor, it needs to take the add on EVF. I just got an A7 yesterday. There’s a lot I really like about the camera, but compared to my 5R, it’s big, heavy, the EVF doesn’t tilt, and I find the grip a less comfortable. It seems like it has less depth then the 5R’s, but maybe it’s just the thinker body.
a99II of course, but not the one shown in photo. If I wanted that style of vertical grip then I’d just by a Canon or Nikon, or an Elpha. I’m a vertical photographer. Alpha style VG lowers shutter release to same plane as viewfinder so I can keep both elbows on chest for better stability. All these other grips force raising right elbow. No need, no benefit to that.
A9 is for you
I rhink if they go all in with FF, they should make an entry level body with IBIS. Because of the IBIS they will develop a lot non stabilized FF lens (cheaper and/or better IQ). They need bodies with IBIS to sell those lenses.
On the other hand FF IBIS is an exclusive feature, usually start from high end modells, a generation later midclass modells, after that on entry level.
At the end i don’t know what to expect…
The A99II is going to rock. The A77II just outclassed every APS-C DSLR under $1500.00 bucks and the A99II will probably do the same for the sub-$2500 DSLR market.
No, A9 will rock. A99 itself is a rock.
I would go for 4 cameras
Sony A9 E-mount with 46 FF sensor, 5 axis and super fast 4D focus.
Sony A7sII with 4K internal recording and 5 axis.
Sony A99II A-mount with 46MP FF sensor, 4K output and 5 axis stabilization.
And for just travelling so i will have a camera with me to all time.
RX2 with curved sensor and Zeiss 35mm f/1.8 lens.
But i am also considering if there was a camera like this
Sony A7bw with Black and White sensor
No need for a high megapixel camera. I just want a Nikon D4S/Canon 1DX competitor that excels in lowlight and AF tracking. Sadly, it seems Sony doesn’t take sports and action photography seriously in high end cameras
Then buy the D4s or Canon 1DX, most want the ultimate image quality which neither of these provide.
I would do it but I have already invested thousands of dollars in Sony equipment and I like my telephotos and Zeiss lenses from Sony…specially the Zeiss 135mm f1.8 and the SAL70400G2.
You’re just a troll that doesn’t own a decent camera and wouldn’t know what to do with one if you did. Stop the BS.
Me a troll? Care to explain why I am one and why you’re not the actual troll here taking usernames that try to make fun of other people?
@rzero21 – learn to ignore them. They tend to flock to the most active communities. SAR is way more active than most other rumors sites, so it is not surprising, that they’re more active here.
I just wish Admin would turn off the guest post feature. In that case I’d even take the time to register.
They sell cameras for under their FF DSLRs $2500.00 where there is no such thing as a Sports Action camera. However I suspect the new A99II performance will be closer to your dream camera than the current model
If that happens, I’m in! I loved the performance of the a77II and the wide coverage offered by the new AF module, got more keepers with that camera than with the a99 at a football game at night. The only thing it was lacking was good performance at high ISO above ISO5000 but overall, nice package, the best sub-1000 USD dSLR/SLT camera right now.
A9000? 😉
I’ll be on the pre-order list for the a7000. I just see no compelling reason to go full-frame, given the size, weight, and price advantage of the aps-c body and every single lens. The image quality, even of my Nex-6, is superb. Still, I may pop for an A7s (or A7s II) for the low-light fun.
Because your an idiot perhaps? Yes definitely.
So many cameras – so few high quality lenses …
More than you could ever afford, and none will fit your Iphone so stop worrying.
No need to be rude dude.
we sony lovers don’t use iphone.
yes we do
I have been patiently waiting for the A9 for over a year, after the A7 was launched roughly. I loved everything about it and the direction it was headed it, but decided to wait for the 2nd generation because of the lack of sports competent autofocus and lack of lens selection mainly. Now that the E mount is very established with some excellent high quality offerings such as the FE16-35 F4, FE55 F1.8, FE70-200 F4, FE Loxia 35 and 50mm with even better future options coming, I am stoked for what Sony has done for the mirrorless design. I hope to see an A9 in early Spring with the new gen 46MP sensor that is pretty much confirmed to be true, improved 4D hybrid autofocus with multiple detection points that is the successor of the system used in the A6000, weather sealed body with 5axis IBIS, and anything extra will be a bonus. Touchscreen and fully articulative screen would be mega as well, especially if accompanied by a higher resolution display and EVF because why not, I’m sure they have made improvements in this area such as with the A7II. If the price point is around $3,000 and below, consider it sold! I think that equipment is obviously only part of the equation as the photographer has more control on the quality of the photos that come out, but there is something to be said about a tool that lets you unleash your creative instinct which the Alpha series does indeed by being lightweight, compact and most importantly without any loss of image quality as compared with bulky modern DSLRS. I also think its ingenious to separate high resolution and perhaps even high sensitivity cameras into a new pro line, while keeping the pro-sumer line up with the A7 which is what they are doing with the A7R successor (A9) and possible the A7S successor as well
Wow that survey really shows how little A-mount is on peoples wish list anymore…
I noticed the same thing. 🙁
yea, A-mount is gone
Scary actually. Damage is done.
And it is very unfortunate. Sony could have outdone Canikon with the A-Mount, if they continued to release A3x and A5x bodies. As well as kept the frequency of releases on par with E-Mount. Discontinuing A6x would have been understandable.
When I got my first A-Mount camera, A55, I was so excited, as it was new tech, it performed better than its Canikon counterparts in every way, and it seemed like Sony was on a roll. When I upgraded to A65, it looked like Sony has slowed down a bit, but not by much. Then the A58 abomination, with plastic mount came out, which was the first sign of trouble.
Sure, A77 and A99 lines are great, but you need to be able to make headlines, if you want a business to continue. 2 years wait for A77II, with no lower end models to keep the brand on front pages, creates a void, which scares customers away from a certain brand.
Sony seem to have successfully migrated most of their userbase to Nikon
Like a7r2 immediately change my a7r
Why Sony do not give us a7rII? Because tha a7rII will be a9, maybe? And, will all Zeiss lenses work fine on the a9? Hm,…. 24MP to 46MP is double!!! and I demande more from a lens!! Look at the Zeiss Otus, which was made for the Sony 36MP in the Nikon D800 or 810!!!
I do hope Zeiss will work on that and in 2016!!!, we will have new Zeiss lenses as well as Loxia II, maybe.
Let us be surprised, what Sony will show us next year! 46MP Sensor will come, but in which digicam body a99II or a7rII? I do hope in both!!…
Bring on the RX2. With an EVF and a flip out screen.
Glad to see the votes. Looks like a victory of common sense 🙂
A99II with FAST OPERATION and uncluttered easy to navigate set up and menu and good battery life. Don’t care for more than 24 MP (36 if the low light performance is any good at iso 6400) Flash system with rugged and durable shoe and radio controls please.
P.S. Sony went after the amateur market and gave them affordable FF but completely failed their pro users in A mount. Makes no sense to invest money into A-Mount Sony Lenses if there’s no decent camera to drive them.
Funny. From looking at the votes so far, it seems like the majority of consumers, not saying “ALL” consumers, prefer the E-mounts. IF, that’s a big “IF”, Sony does pay attention to these forums & store sales charts, I can foresee them focusing strictly on E-mounts for a long time. I love the A-mount stuff myself, but it does make you wonder what’s in store for the future. Basically, what do the majority of consumers want?
If I were a big company & saw that I had 2 products with one of them making about 80% sales & the other one going about 20% sales, guess which one I would focus on? Sucks to be the person that likes the 20% product.
I myself love the A-mount stuff, but it looks like most consumers want the E-mount stuff. I has a sad.
To be fair the votes here are completely different in terms of actual sales.
The budget A3000 which is a hated camera here is one the best sellers.
^ But the thing is that the votes & what is selling happens to be E-mount stuff. There have been way more E-mount sales in the past year than A-mount sales & the trend doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. It looks like the tip of the iceberg for both E-mount & A-mount.
I’m gonna wait to see what 2015 holds for the A-mount. I have about 5 lenses for my A200 & I was about to get the A77II, but now I’m just going to wait to see what happens. No need for me to upgrade yet. My A200 ain’t broke yet. I’ll figure out what I need to do by mid-2015.
Sony needs to sell 50 to 100 A5100 systems to generate the same profit they get from a single A99 system.
The real revenue earners are the Sony DSLR, and FF mirror-less cameras systems, which are designed for the semi-pro, or professional photographers, who tend to spend more money on lenses that bodies.
A typical semi-pro, or pro Sony DSLR user will own between six, and ten lenses (16-35, 24-70, 70-200, 35, 50, 85, 135 are the most common).
Sony generally sell between 8K to 12K worth of glass for every FF DSLR user. Which is why their DSLR line will be around for a very long time.
They make more money from FE lenses, since there is no Sigma or Tamron yet, and they can sell Sony FE lenses on very high prices.
In order to get an understanding of where they’re going you need to know the combined lens, and camera body sales. Currently 60% of all Sony ILC revenue is generated is from DSLR lens, and body sales.
E-Mounts are mass produced consumer cameras, with consume grade construction, and features. These customers rarely buy lenses. Sony had consumer grade DSLRs but dropped them because they costed more to make than what they sold for.
One major flaw in your comments is the lack of any data to back up your claims.
Neither of us have any sales data to show that E mount is outselling A mount.
And bodies is only one thing. Lenses and accessories sales also count and here again we have no clue what the actual sales are.
I would like A900 successor, classic DSLR packed with all features of A7 would be great
I’d like that, but slimmed down. Take the same ethos applied to the A7 series and trim it DOWN. If Canon can do it with their 6D, surely Sony at this point can make an extreme slimmed down version of the A99- minus the flange distance of course. Minolta 7000 style.
The difference in flange distance between the two systems is slightly over an inch which is insignificant in the first place.
I think you right. The new steady shot system will likely mean the next Sony DSLRs are going to allot smaller than the current models.
2014 “A-mount year” will be gone very soon, well done Sony. 2015 will be E-mount year big time!!
Will the A7000 record 4k ???????????
What A7000?
ENOUGH WITH ALL THOSE FREAKING MEGAPIXELS !!!!
More is not better !!!!
24 Mpix seems to be ideal with FullFrame
– Optimal filesize
– Faster processing
– Good ISO / IQ
– MORE THAN ENOUGH to crop and STILL print A3 / A2 posters
i dont want a fucking 46 Mpixel camera
Sony has till 27th of December to surprise me with its upcoming RX100M4/A5500 (true NEX-5T successor) both with internal 4K video or I’m switching to Panasonic LX100 for 4K as soon as it starts selling here and bye-bye Sony 🙂
Yes i am sure they are concerned about your switch….bye bye
SAMSUNG NX-1….
i dont need to update my a7 because a new camera will not take ‘better’ pictures . all i need are a zeiss fe wide angle and telephoto prime.
Yes please! A Zeiss 24mm FE (f1.8?) and an Zeiss 85mm f1.4 for the A7 series. (covering full frame)
does SONY think, i put my brain in a box and the NASA will bring it to Moon?
2014 is only 4k APS-C and 499,-$ startprice for “normal” 8 BIT worth to buy… may-bay
bee… okay. if they would not go this itiotique way of many bodies and nothing real and such
desasters like the R7 ( 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,and then mk-10 fullfills waht i want in first model?)!
SONY is like a form of electronique ebola..nobody wants it but the virus does not know that…
Samsung… i do not care about them, a BLOTWARE-shop but the NX-1 looks fine… and the
4k S35 JVC is a bit too expensive ( SONY does not bring something to look on it`s claim F-s-7
Camcorder for 7000,-$ and 2000.-$ if you want 4k… ) 🙂 funny games
and for a simple well made PHOTO a good LENSE and a normal Canon 550 is enough..
if you know waht you do with it….
and SLIMM!
i do not want to be a MEMBER of WEIGHT-WATCHERS and eaven not buy TAMPOONS
because they must be SLIMM!!!!
Please stop this idiotic MARKETING BULLSHIT ( 8 years are enough!!!)
oh yes a 4k-smartphone is SLIMM and over/out after 120 minutes…. for the idiots
Maybe RX1 firmware update? One can dream…
Hey Andrea , you missed one of the main rumors here: foveon competitor sensor camera of some description. Are you saying its a none possibility for 2015?
That would be fantastic ~ a 1:1 sensor. My DP Merrills are fantastic for output, but I would love to have a similar sensor with a viewfinder and some interchangeable lenses.
Andrea,
you missed two options:
1) A-Mount middle class camera (A65 successor) (well, yes, I know, just a dream…)
2) None of all (reality!)
I would buy a new DSLR-A900 Mark II with a 36 MP sensor, a hybrid viewfinder, live view with focus peaking, 4K video, 5-axis IBIS, and with XQD and CompactFlash memory card slots.
sony does not have lenses…why all these camera’s ?!!! are these people insane.. i still have my sony nex……but i’m back to canon for serious stuff. I was expecting to have some sane people working in their midst……but noooo, they make cameras without lenses to use on. Who cares about the fastest autofocus when you dont have lenses to work with..?? and fan boys get back, sony doesn’t care about you so don’t start getting sensitive. Any serious photographer who uses sony is only because he is sposored by them, i know a few and all admit their videos about how great sony a7r etc are is just BS. For video guys sony a7s might be a budget option amongst others………
Same thing I’ve been saying for a while now. APS-C E-Mount is a little better, but FE has been a disappointment, leading me to selling my A7 and migrating to another system. I loved the body, and to an extent the files too…but not having any lenses for the work I do (I would have loved a fast 24-30mm prime and a 100-135mm prime) it just wasn’t meant to be. I’d like to revisit the A(x) system maybe later next year if they fill out the lens holes but I’m not optimistic. And before any Sony fanboys hop in and tell me about using adapters or MF lenses….it’s not ideal for the work that I do.
Adapters and large lenses only add bulk/weight, which if I’m going to deal with I might as well use a traditional DSLR and native lenses, and MF is fine and dandy if you shoot landscapes or architecture, but not ideal for much else and definitely not something I’d deal with in a fast-paced environment for client work.
“MF is fine and dandy if you shoot landscapes or architecture, but not ideal for much else and definitely not something I’d deal with in a fast-paced environment for client work.”
haha, how do you think people managed to take photos before AF? That’s what so many lazy photographers say. And if you’re using a 28mm prime you don’t even need to focus!
The adapters from mirror box cameras are bulky as you say, but there are small thin Leica lens adapters that don’t add much size or weight to the camera.
It’s cute that you assume I’m shooting static objects. Yes, people did fairly well with MF, but then again you’re forgetting that in 1980 it was “ok” to have a slightly oof photograph, not so much any more. And it I’m a “lazy photographer” as you’d suggest, then I can infer that you’re probably a hobbyist. Nothing wrong with it, but once you make 100% of your income shooting for commercial clients then please feel free to come back and let me know if your stance on MF being perfectly acceptable for everything.
I highly doubt you’ve ever shot a model for a lookbook or campaign walking diagonally towards you, using a short telephoto, and had to use an adapted lens and still managed to maintain accurate focus to the satisfaction of the client. Just one of the many examples where MF isn’t ideal. Is it doable? Obviously, as catalogs/campaigns/movement/etc were shot prior to the advent of AF in cameras. Is it ideal, or even recommended when WORKING in today’s industry? Not at all.
But what do I know….I’m just lazy…
+1
You don’t need to focus with a 28mm prime? Huh?
Yawn same old cr*p….35mm 55mm 16-35mm 24-70mm 70-200mm. What can you not shoot with that?….shipping in march…new 35mm 28mm 21mm 16mm 90mm macro….What can you not shoot with that??? Canon for the serious stuff?….Please throw me a fricking bone…
I wouldn’t buy any sony camera unless they give us a few good lenses….even sigma has said they wont make lenses for the e mount because sony is not serious and they don’t wanna invest in their mount………this should hurt guys working at sony but it doesn’t seem to bother them to be called a bunch of over aged toddlers fooling around.
Moron!!! Sony has plenty of outstanding Zeiss glass for its DSLRs. Its 24, 50, 85, 135 ZA primes, and 24-70 16-35 zooms are all top shelf products. Its G-Series has been outstanding for 20+ years.
and its mirror-less lineup is growing rapidly.
I’ve been using Minolta/Sony SLRs professionally for over 20 years, and only a moron would make comments like these.
To be fair, I think he’s only talking about E-mount here.
If Sony could give us clean raw files with 14 bit color worthy of lenses like the Otus 55 and 85 and the Apo-Sonnar 135 I’d buy another camera. Right now Sony only outputs lossy compressed raw files with serious gaps when examined by RawDigger. All the rest is fluff and bs.
You need to clarify what cameras you’re talking about, because this is not an issue with their “FLAGSHIP” cameras. There has been no issues such with the A900 or A99 cameras ever.
It seems that all Sony cameras including those you mention use the same lossy RAW compression algorithm: http://www.rawdigger.com/howtouse/sony-craw-arw2-posterization-detection
No its wrong. The problems are not associated with either the A99 or A900. Its a A7, A7r problem.
Are you sure, were is the evidence of that? Everything I have read claims that the compression scheme is applied to all Sony RAW files.
Nope. Read the 5 million A900 A99 or A77 reviews and you won’t see one complaint with their RAW files. In fact they’re actually praised for the RAW performance. It seems to be a problem with only the mirror-less cameras.
The A900, A99, and A77 compression scheme (actually its applied to all (Sony DSLRs) is an updated Minolta version (because they were to lazy to update it) and the A7’s is 100% Sony (new / supposedly better = plagued with issues).
I take it you don’t use Alpha DSLRs.
Kliff is correct.
The A900, however, does feature the option to shoot cRAW (compressed RAW) mode, but the standard A900 RAW does not use lossy compression at all. Additionally, the A900 12-bit files have better color depth than the 14-bit files out of the NIkon D3x which was nearly 3 times the price and used the same sensor! Dynamic range between the two is about the same.
The 14-bit RAWs out of my A99 bodies seem to have almost endless dynamic range and I’ve been able to push and pull like never before. IMHO the A99 still is a very underrated camera!
I think the slower frame rate than the A77 is what really killed its steam, but seeing ALL A-mount updates are for speed (and weather sealing), my fingers are crossed we’ll finally get the EVF sports body we’ve been dreaming of in 2015!
14 bit is only available in single image mode on the a99.
I agree, that is one reason why I wouldn’t buy a Sony A-Series camera. In my opinion, it makes no sense…
The issues are isolated to the A7, and A7r.
Plus your right it makes no sense, because FF Sony DSLRs are for those of us who can’t compromise, and can afford to drop 2K or 3K for a Zeiss or G-Series zooms, and $1500 to 2K for Zeiss primes.
If I didn’t operate an event management business, and only did photography on the side as a hobby I’d probably buy a Fuji XT-1 with a couple of primes or the A77II.
If you’re an amateur and have no aspirations of going pro then FF Sony DSLR is definitely too expensive.
All of us using the Alpha System professionally are looking towards the A99II. It will undoubtedly be the most useful camera for us.
The mirror-less cameras are great niche cameras, and I really adore my A7s with its low light, and video capabilities, but its doesn’t have the chops for the other 90% of my daily needs which is split between a Pentax 645Z, and a A900.
I totally agree! The ergonomics of a full size SLR-body just makes sense for 90% of my work as a photography professional! I’m shooting with a combination of two A99s and an A77II. However, I kept one of my A900 bodies and doubt I’ll ever sell it!
Waiting and hoping for a 45+MP system for landscape work from Sony!
Hope it will be this year. Otherwise, I’ll likely jump to MF before spring ’15
Me too. Except instead of landscape, I do fine art photography.
Prove that A-mount is dead
for 2015: a7 mark IV
What i’d like from Sony in 2015 – none of the above – an Nex-7 successor with:
– tri-nav or dedicated iso, speed and aperture controls
– a6000 style auto-focus
– improved flash synch
– no IBIS – keep it compact
– no more weak a7 ii “rumours”
🙂
A7S II with 5 axis IBIS please 😀
please can i have a A6000 with BSI tech and 4K 24p/60, but without AA filter. and built-in level gauge.
Sony a7000 with touchscreen and fully articulated screen with flip out capabilities
i would also like to see sony port their CineAlta lenses to APS-C e-mount. by going e-mount then dont have to be afriad of other brand adapting to their lens. not many system with shorter flange distances.
I’m looking at the list and it is just… sad.
Yes, I’m interested in the A7000. Because of the great form factor, the sealing, the speed.
I guess people who want a pro-oriented A99 or A9 also expect some quality features.
What we get here are just some meaningless numbers.
1) 4K – whatever…
2) 4D tracking. WTF is 4D tracking? 3D is not enough?
3) 5-axis stabilization – 2.5 more axes than in optical systems! Sadly, not 2.5 times the performance. And implementations ill vary, so why not say “A7II-like IBIS” instead of “5-axis”?
That said, Sony’s new IBIS might actually be better then optical systems from other manufacturers and that would be a significant improvement.
Best “5-axis” from Olympus lags behind Panasonic’s OIS… We’re yet to see a proper A7II test with wider range of lenses (especially telephoto).
A7R II with IBIS would buy me. More than that I would be glad to see 70-300f4 for 2000€. E-mount 70-200f2.8 for 2000€. Probably is no more real reason to pay for f2.8 because ISO 6400 is so noise clean like ISO1600 on my old A550.
1.4x and 2x. teleconverte for FE is also welcome.
A99II 36mp + wider AF coverage + 5-axis IBIS
No need 46mp or 4k video.
silent shutter & full frame readout video is more important.
last year i ask for an a5, but i know sony will never release an a7 minus EVF and call it a5, so it was i dream from someone who never shot with an OVF, so i never care, kind of hate that big EVF bumps
but looking at current a7 line up, bigger bodies because IBIS, weigther, and the a9/a9000 coming next year probably in a dslr package to acomodate dual bionz (needed for faster fps) dual memory and probably built in capacity in the body for 2 or 3 batteries, an slim body like the a5 could had a real chance
like the nex5 or now a5000 is to the nex7, sony could launch an a5, that could be like the nex5 (just a sensor+grip) well not exactly, imagine an a7 without the EVF bump, a9/a9000 its for real pros, a7ii line up is for pro-sumers, then a5 will be entry point, sony migth be scared of canibalize a7 sales but…
a5 will be no magnesium alloy, no evf, no ibis, sure it can cut a couple of thousands of dollars of the price, imagine an a5 at $999, it will not canibalize a7ii line, because those who want ibis, evf, magnesium, will get a7ii and most pro-sumers wont get any less, but a5 at $999 will kill m4/3 and fuji apsc, it will be hard to justify an $1000+ body when the a5 with 2 times bigger sensor is there
sony has nailed the pro sumer market, if next year they consolidate going for the pro and entry level with a9 and a5 lines, oh boy, it will be a blood bath for other companies
no, A5 will have a EVF on top left, no IBIS, comes with a small external flash that use MI shoe, smaller size and lighter than A7 mark 1.
I think they should leave IBIS in the package.
I know they wont, but…
This is the key for cheaper and better FF lenses. With this you only need tu buy the stabilization once, and use simpler lenses, wich will definitely come. Non OSS FF zooms and primes in 2015.
Both entry level modells (cheaper due the simpler design and less elements) and pro lens ( same price like oss modells, but simpler design, better quality glass)
For the entry no OSS lens they will need some entry level body with IBIS…
My wish list camera is not quite on this list.
A7S II 24MP sensor (as good or better ISO and dynamic range) Global Shutter/Silent Shutter, 5-Axis IBIS, Higher Resolution EVF, 8 FPS+, Dual SD card slots, lossless RAW compression, GPS, better battery life, A7 style magnesium alloy dials (not these cheap plastic A7II dials) Menu button on the right side so I can press it with my thumb (come on, Sony) Hardly a videographer so I could really care less if there is internal 4k.
what happened to the articulating EVF?
anyway, I voted for an A5
supercompact FF E mount camera, got to have an articulating EVF! But
someone says that it’s EVF will be left top fixed? Articulating EVF,
where are they? A small street / travel shooter, my camera has to have
it!
I dont see a mirrorless A-mount option. I would love to see a mirrorless A-mount (no SLT, no adapter on E-mount). Looks like I wouldnt buy any of the above if it came out in 2015.
There is a big reason that a mirror exists for all SLR cameras. DSLR lenses don’t work too well with contrast detect AF which is what mirrorless cameras use.
So unless there is some groundbreaking tech launched where the mirror can be avoided you will never see a mirrorless A mount
Any news on the A7rll?
