  1. I ordered the 90mm soon after it was announced and so I should be getting it soon.
Problem is I do not have any E mount camera to use it on.

      1. I also preordered the A7Rii, but I will not have it when my lens arrives…I keep hoping that maybe a few will sneak out early, because I ordered it the second prordering opened.

        1. You could just cancel and wait until you get the 7R II since it’ll probably be August anyway. By then you can probably just pick up the FE 90 at any local camera store

          1. I WANT MY LENS!
I will find a way to temporarily use it till I get a camera…I just havent figured out how yet.
It cant be that difficult to build a camera could it?
The MTF charts on this lens are real good…
At f8 the resolution lines practially match the 100% line

          2. Nex 3 totally inadequate for my needs.
I may rent an a7r for the days I need it,
That’s only a little inadequate for my needs.
Hopefully I will get my a7rii soon after.

          1. You are correct…if I sit on it for 2 months the warrenty will be wasted, it will not cover the damage.

  2. If it’s going to ship earlier than expected then it’s not “already” !!! Please refrain from using the word “already” … thank you 🙂

  3. would seem silly to release two excellent a-mount lenses and discontinue a-mount camera. 50+mp a-mount coming probably sometime this year

          1. I would like for you to be right, and I would like to be wrong,
I do not believe Sony will continue to make A mount cameras…if one more comes in September , unlikely, it will be the last, and sell poorly.

          2. Then what’s the logic in releasing new A-mount lenses?

Sony’s already given us their answer — repeatedly. There’s an obvious reason to continue A-mount as E-mount simply does not meet the needs for all photographers. It’s really not that complicated.

          3. Sony has never actually said they will release another A mount or SLT camera.
The new lenses are just upgraded old lenses.
They have fulfilled thier pledge of continued support for A mount with the A7Rii and more compatable focus system.

          4. That’s not true. Earlier this year, Sony stated very clearly that both new A-mount lenses and new A-mount bodies will come. They also suggested that the lens updates would come first and are designed to support both 2nd and 3rd generation SLT A-mount, we haven’t even seen the total 2nd generation released yet.

The 2nd generation SLT full frame A-mount camera(s) will be announced in September — which is right on schedule.

          5. As I said..I very much want to be wrong and see a great new A mount camera.
But read a little more carefully..
In this interview, as in every interview I have seen Sony never actually says they will release a new A mount camera, only that they will continue to develope it….they are very consistent in never claiming any more than that they will support A moun, and continue to develope a mount.
They never say they will build, release, sell …a new A mount body.
So my information is correct…they hint at continued A mount but never commit to producing a new A mount camera.
My claim that they will not release another A mount camera is of course my interpretation of the evidence and therefor my opinion.
Once again I openly challenge Sony to prove me wrong by releasing a new A mount camera with tje latest most advanced highest resolution sensor…before releasing it for E mount.
I very much want to be proven wrong, as I woild like such a camera.

          6. No thanks, high res a99-2 makes no sense. SLT can only remain relevant if Sony can far exceed e-mount speed / performance for press, sports, action, reportage and events. e-mount makes the most sense now for high res / studio bodies (adaptability options), video bodies (video & PL lens availability) and casual & enthusiast photographers (for portability). If a-mount is relegated to a single APS-C and a single FF, it should be a top performer not an e-mount duplicate with slightly worse IQ.

          7. You wont buy a high res A mount, and no one including yourself will buy a low res A mount.
Press, sports, action, reportage, and events…Canon owns those catagories and A mount has zero chance of success.
Sony will not make more than one A mount camera…..so high res or nothing are the only two A mount options.

          8. First of all, 24MP still isn’t low res.

Second of all, I would buy two of these bodies, and I know a dozen other professionals that are waiting for them as well. I don’t expect you to understand since you clearly aren’t a professional

          9. Canon is supposed to be coming out with a new 18mp ff sensor that they claim will be the highest iso/best low light ever made.
Sony simply will be unable to gain any meaningfull marked share with a 24mp A mount.
Only E mount has a chance of attracting Canon market share.
A high res A mount camera can occupy a noch that Canon does not already rule
Another 24mp camera in a market already oversaturated with 24mp cameras can’t

          10. Okay gear head. Keep talking specs & market share. I have a job to shoot.

          11. You are correct, I would buy a high res e-mount over a high res a-mount because I generally use high resolution for interior and architecture shooting which necessitates using canon tilt-shift and wide angle lenses.

Since the a7r has been released, I’ve been renting that for such shoots as it is much better than any current canon bodies for such shoots. I may purchase the a7rII upon testing. I wouldn’t buy a low res a-mount body either, but I will certainly purchase a low res a7sII for video.

I would purchase an a99-2 with mid tier resolution (18 to 28mp) if it offers superior speed, AF, battery & ergonomics for press & event shooting.

Given the choice between an a7rII and an a99-2 with the same sensor, what would you purchase?

          12. If a99 offers same 42mp sensor as a7rii…then Sony has put a hand me down sensor in and A mount is dead to me.
It would clearly indicate a lack of commitment to A mount.
If they offer a higher res sensor, before it is available on the a9…it should have flip up mirror and the new bsi focus system,..so it will focus as fast as E mount with mirror up, and even faster with mirror down
Some provision for non A mount lenses would be nice too, but I am not expecting that.
Such a camera would interest me….I want it to be better than E mount, not a hand me down.
P,S…..see my comment about the flat camera.

          13. Your answer is no. All things being equal, you prefer the high res e-mount body to the high res a-mount body. Thank you for proving my point. A high resolution a-mount body since Sony can offer it in e-mount with far greater lens flexibility.

The only compelling reason for a-mount bodies to continue to exist will be if they can offer an appreciable difference in performance over e-mount.

          14. SONY has killed A mount.
By lack of support, unclear roadmap, few and already obsolete cameras….no one can count on A mount to be there for them.
A mount is dead, even if they make new cameras, Sony has deliberately seen to that.
They have deliberately discouraged A mount users so Sony could deny responsibility for killing A mount.
Sony has an incomplete lens selection, the ability to use both Sony and non Sony lenses is E mounts advantage.
Now that it features both IBIS and autofocus compatability the system has matured and will replace A mount.

          15. You do not have to justify your preference for the mirrorless camera over the slr just as no one need justify a dSLR preference versus a film camera. It is obvious that this is the direction the industry will move towards. Nonetheless your preference remains – you choose the E mount high res camera over a potential a mount high res camera if they were to both feature Sony’s newest 42mp sensor because of the adaptability. You would not cancel your order because you want to adapt lenses. This is what I wrote in my first reply.

It is only logical, there are a plethora of lens and modular options on the mirrorless over the SLT body that suits high resolution shooting.

Again, the logical conclusion is that a mount bodies can only remain relevant in the near term as performance vehicles making up for any shortfalls that mirrorless tech cannot yet overcome (but eventually shall) in ultimate AF speed, coverage, tracking, fps and processing.

          16. I agree with you 100%! It amazes me how many people posting on this site just don’t get it, and can’t understand that different photographers have different needs.

          17. Did you even read the interview? He ADAMANTLY says that both new A-mount cameras & lenses are coming, and even goes on to say that the only reason DSLR sales are falling is because of lack of innovation and that there’s a lot of space to work with in an SLT body.

We will absolutely see amazing developments in A-mount this fall!

          18. The 24-70mm f2.8 CZ was already one of the best 24-70mm lenses around. It didn’t need an update nor did the 16-35mm f2.8. The only reason to update the lenses and the prices too is because a newer A mount camera would be coming around the corner to make better use of these two new lenses.

No one in their right mind will buy these two new expensive lenses and slap on an adapter to kill their improved AF.

          19. If your lens isn’t fast enough to get the shot, who cares how sharp it is? They needed an update for the AF alone — everyone knows the V1 SSM lags and was not very reliable. Often times I would pre-focus manually just to ensure I got the shot.

The new version is dramatically faster, snappier and far superior with tracking. Also weather sealing is important, so Sony added that as well. The general layout of elements is virtually the same, but from what I understand the ED elements were updated and new coatings were added to further improve overall IQ, reduce ghosting, etc. I see a lot of people on here don’t understand that optical coatings are as important as the glass used and radically effect light transmission, contrast, color and sharpness.

I’ve only had my Zeiss 24-70/2.8 ZA SSM II since Tuesday, but it’s absolutely a better lens to work with than the V1 all around — both notably sharper and much faster & more accurate AF performance. If you shoot sports at all, this update is essential!

          20. As I always say .. Sony is moving slowly in DSLT category but they will not stop producing A-mount cameras for one reason.. There are too many A-mount lenses to be dumped.
They might start producing mirrorless A-mount cameras in future but will not dump the whole system.

Sony already gave away VAIO computers for digital imaging because they have plans.

      1. I disagree considering EVERY A-mount update the past 3 years has been to optimize A-mount for sports photographers. Because of this, I strongly I suspect Sony will release a new professional sports SLT camera with a brand new 24mp BSI with ISO range close to A7S with an all cross version of the A77II module combined with 399-point OSPDAF as seen on A7RII with a 500K shutter, 5-way IBIS and continuous speeds of 10/12-16 burst. It’s going to be all about speed & sensitivity this time round. Price will be close to $4,000.

Ultra high res doesn’t make sense in SLT IMHO, and I still suspect this camera will be SLT to allow for full time continuous AF. If you aren’t shooting sports with long lenses, you’re better served in E-mount.

        1. Completely agree, the only reason native a-mount bodies will have a reason to exist will be if they can be tuned to offer the highest performance (in terms of camera processor speed; AF speed, accuracy & coverage; high FPS) combined with ruggedness, ergonomics, solid sensitivity. 18 to 24 mp is more than enough for action, sports, etc.

It will also need more robust features such as more granular customizations, better / faster wi-fi implantation (FTP, hotspot access, etc.), and better batteries. It would be nice if there was a double size battery for the vertical grip (less casing = greater than double the battery life).

      2. People never expected a brand new class leading AF system for the A77 II either. But Sony delivered quite well on that front.

        1. That I will agree with 100%, and it will be further improved upon for the new Full Frame A-mount bodies.

  4. My Sony / Zeiss T* 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM II arrived on Tuesday and it’s absolutely sharper, especially at the edges / corners, and that’s saying a lot considering the V1 is my most used lens. What’s an ever bigger upgrade, however, is the AF speed and tracking is dramatically faster than the V1. I was not surprised since I also own the SAL70200G2 and SAL300F28G2. Great stuff, and I can’t wait for the new A-mount bodies that will really take advantage of the new AF capabilities in the SSM II lineup!

    1. Good news. I thought that it’s optically the same as previous. Just some IC improvement for faster data transfer. Didn’t know, that it new optical construction (improved corner sharpness),

    2. Really? Can you show us pictures side by side comparison between the 24-70 V1 vs V2 on all focal lengths please?
