(SR5) The NEX lens roadmap and 30mm macro specs (+ NEX flash)

And now we got even more info about the future 30mm NEX and the other 6 future NEX lenses.
The 30mm macro lens is designed with 7 lens elements in 6 groups. One of them is an ED lens and three of them are aspherical. Minimum focusing distance is 10cm, filter size 49mm and weight 138g.

There will be six more NEX lenses to come in 2011/2012:
A Sony portrait lens 50mm f/1.8
The 24mm f/1.7 Zeiss
The telephoto zoom lens (should be 55-200mm f/4-5.6)
A medium telephoto lens
The Sony G standard zoom
A Sony wide angle zoom.

P.S.: The NEX flash will cost around $150 and have a coverage of 24-50mm.

  1. The 50mm f/1.8 and 55-200 are definite purchases. Have to see prices for the others first. Let’s get these babies out, Sony!

  2. Coming out in 2012?

I hope that’s a typo, Addy! I believe at least one or two more are supposed to come out this year, right? 🙂

  3. Where are the pancake lenses? Small camera size doesn’t matter when most of the lenses are large.

    1. Same here, no pancake lenses mean no NEX sale to me. I want an APS-C compact body but not a bloody great big lens on it! The 16mm is too wide.

  4. I can’t say the roadmap contains too many lenses that appeal to me. I’d much rather they be making pancake lenses for it.

    1. Assumedly the “wide angle zoom” will reach into UWA territory. Well, that would be the logical approach to designing such a lens at least, but I can totally see Sony only going to 16 or 15 at the wide end…

No sign of any primes wider than 16mm, anyway.

  5. Is the flash you’re talking about the one on the NEX C3 ? Or is it a different one ? Like the one Sony announced with the NEX roadmap ? I remember it looked different and had direct or “ambiant” (i don’t remember the exact name).
So, if it is the same, is it better than the one i have with my nex 3 ?

  6. Id like pancakes too, but i think they know there targetting the DSLR entry-level market… hence as an alternative to a DSLR it’s still relatively lighter/cheaper/smaller. Plus gimmicky sexyness… it got me!

    1. That’s clearly the market Sony was targeting with the NEX system. A way to upsell a system camera to ladies who like to keep a camera in their purse and would normally opt for a P&S.

Unfortunately, they totally failed to predict that there are a lot of pros and serious amateurs who would like a high quality compact camera either for a backup, discrete street photography, or to reduce the weight of their gear. So we end up with a lovely small camera with some of the best image sensors on the market…and a set of rubbish, I’ll suited lenses to put on it.

  7. I would not hesitate a second to buy into the NEX system if finally small pancake lenses were available. The CR3 seems to be even smaller than the existing bodys…but all size advantage gets defeated by bulky lenses. And in case lenses stay that big…please have super steady shot integrated so they at least make an advantage for video production!

    1. +1 Definately need steady shot, my beautiful fisheye converter pans get stuffed up by shaking, then when i use a crop on software it just detracts from the full fisheye effect…

  8. One thing that’s curious is that we aren’t seeing something for the FS-100 and VG-10 in the mix. Sure, the two primes will be of interest, but they don’t exactly seem set up right for video. It appears that Sony is going to concede video lenses to PL mount adapters.

  9. Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much they thing the 50mm Sony portrait lens will be when it comes out? ( I know prices arnt out but even a rough guess will be fine for me!)

  10. Awesome but i just want something to come out already, especially on the macro side, the 18-55 requires a minimum of like 4-5 inches distance to focus. :/

  11. Lets hope the wide-angle zoom will be comparable to the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, except with a shorter register distance!
