The current A6000 with [shoplink 39753 ebay]Gariz case[/shoplink].
A new source shared some more details about the soon to be announced new Sony E-mount camera.
1) Sony is preparing the next step in video quality and experience
2) This is an interchangeable lens camera with
– Best in class low light performance (backlit sensor and RGBW pixel array)
– internal 4k video recording with full sensor readout in 60fps
– extremly fast autofocus system
This would become the world’s first System camera with RGBW sensor. More info about that sensor can be read via Sony.net:
The built-in “RGBW Coding” function which adds W (White) pixels to the conventional range of RGB (Red-Green-Blue) pixels has realized higher sensitivity, enabling high-quality shooting with low noise even in dark indoor or night settings. While the addition of W (White) pixels improves sensitivity, it has the problem of degrading image quality. However, Sony’s own device technology and signal processing realizes superior sensitivity without hurting image quality.
This is an info that still has to be confirmed by trusted sources. But my guts tells me that new source is spot on with the info he shared!
So when will it be announced? There is the IFA in Berlin (Sept. 7) and the IBC in Amsterdam (Sony press day on Sept. 11). There will be certainly new Sony action cameras, maybe QX news too. And I hope the 4K A6xxx will be announced in one of those events too. But so far no trusted source confirmed when the camera will be announced.

If that is the case I’m not jumping on this generation
Why? And also it would seem you make incredibly hasty decisions as you apparently have written of a camera based on sensor performance that no one has even seen?
Because it takes a while before popular image editing programs properly handle images from sensors that aren’t standard bayer.
X-trans still isn’t handled properly by adobe software and wrgb is even weirder. (and failed miserably when sony tried it the first time)
If it is a hit and offers actual benefits, the next generation will be properly supported and end up being better anyway.
Sounds like an awesome sensor.. I hope they solved the overheating issues with this one though. And what about IBIS? Touchscreen? Mic input? I really hope this camera goes balls to the wall with it’s features like the A7RII !!
Sony doesn’t like to give out touch screens to high end cameras! Sadly!
Finally some use of the higher and higher pixel count: trading in some resolution for sensitivity? Yes please!
4K60p with no overheating? Wouldn’t count on it.
The sensor might be able to do 4k60p, but I doubt and hope it will only record in 30p, because if it recorded 60p Sony would let our wallets bleed for it.
If sony really would release a 4K60P APSC mirrorless camera – which would have no real competitor – expect to pay more than 2000$ for it.
Maybe It’s possible but only for a short period of time, like how their full frame video recorders could only do 240fps for 9 seconds
Specially considering that the most of the heat issue happens when filming in S35 mode.
it was only for bait.. thought it would give the fake away but obviously it did not.
I’d be happy with 4K for ten minutes and full HD without overheating.
They should do water cooling for cameras like they do for cars and computers. Maybe liquid nitrogen?
Where would you put the radiator on a camera?
Maybe somewhere in the battery grip? It could be an optional accessory like the oil cooler for some cars.
I’ll be honest, it was a rhetorical question. I really don’t think liquid cooling is a great idea in a camera.
I guess I should be honest, I was not being serious at all about any of this.
Get a video camera.
The A6000 already comes pretty close (within about a stop) of my A7 for low-light and night photography. If this is on par or better than the A7 it may be just too tempting to resist…
Doesn’t this sound a bit more like an A7Sii ?
It sounds like a different ansatz. A7s has huge pixels compared to the other models. This white pixel ansatz would still mean you have a lot of small pixels, but the demosaicing has less color information and works a little less good but offers better sensitivity. Descent cameras resolve about 80% of their actual MP, so 24MP sensors would resovle about 19MP effective. I would trade in another 10% effective resolution after demosaicing for the sake of sensitivity. I cant really guess how much the loss of having this white pixel really is, but you still have three pixels for interpolation as usual, it sounds interesting.
I only care about what does “soon” mean!
PLEASE! Let me know if I have to buy A6000…
the A6000 is a nice camera i have one myself.
unfortunately the lenses are either too expensive or simply crap.
and for the good ones you give away the size benefit.
i bought the A6000 as second camera when i want to travel light.
unfortunately the lens collection is very small then.
so i have only the 16-50mm kit and a sigma 30mm f2.8.
the 10-18mm i had was totaly decentered… was going back the same day.
lenses are a very weak point for sony… no wonder most enthusiast end up using an EF converter.
Yeah, APS-C lens situation is not ideal, if you are more than a casual shooter. Most of my lenses are FEs so the quality is great, but they are a bit big for the A6000. The Zeiss 16-70 is ok, but it’s time they release a really good APS-C standard zoom.
18-105G is quite good.
Haven’t tried that one, but it’s quite heavy and I’m no fan of powerzooms…
Quite heavy compared to the SEL 50 1.8 that was on my A6000 for most of the time yes. Heavy for a high quality one lens walk around combo not at all. I have taken it up mountains and through the woods, and into Carslbad Caverns and it has the best image quality short of swapping 3 or 4 primes that I have used. So my question is what zoom would you think would be as good and lighter? Something manual I assume from what you said? I bet if you find one in Nikon or Cannon flavors that fits the bill you could adapt it.
Agree, this is one of the biggest issues of the E-mount: that lack of a credible 16-x lens. Well, and that there is no real second control wheel on any recent body.
I’d have to disagree. I own the 35mm and 50mm Sony primes, the 19mm Sigma, and the 12mm Rokinon, and all are very good lenses. I have heard the Touit 32 is good, but I don’t own it and it is reasonably priced. I really enjoy my images from all this glass. The 16-70 Zeiss is pretty good. Not the sharpest or fastest, but perhaps the loveliest rendering of all of these lenses.
My least favorite lens is the 55-210, but a lot of the issues (I have shot thousands images of kids playing soccer..) I believe come from the not-quite-there AF on the A6000. I have occasionally used the lens for non-action shots and it actually seems pretty sharp. The other problem with that 55-210 is that it is slow.
So what I’d like to see with the A6000 successor is better (i.e. more accurate) autofocus, and usable images at ISO3200 and ISO6400. If they can achieve both, then I can work some magic with that 55-210, I think.
Also it would be absolutely magical if they can get ISO12800 and ISO25600 to have the same noise level as ISO3200 on the current A6000. Imagine the astrophotography possibilities with that – I am already getting great results at ISO3200 and it would be amazing to gather more light or be able to use an f/4 lens for Milky Way shots.
the sigma 19mm is a fine lens but in no way better then the kit lens at f5.6.
if i would need better low light performance i would buy it. so i send it back.
the sigma 30mm is fine… i kept that.
the 55-210mm in the kit was so worse i sold it immediately.
the 50mm sony is one of the good example.. but hey.. that´s still not much.
I’d have to disagree, same as Albert. The 10-18, 20 2.8, 35 1.8, 50 1.8 are all small, same price or cheaper than competing mirrorless and have great IQ (especially considering their size). The kit lenses are also decent for their price and when we look at third party lenses it only gets better.
(Oh, the post i’m replaing was removed, why?)
Yes, I read a lot of opinion like yours.
Problem is that A6000 HW is 2 years old.
That means too much time on high-tech scale.
For example I read that faster SD card are not supported.
So, i just need a “refresh” for HW design: New memories, new silicon, faster system, power optimized and so on.
You know: I can buy, right now A6000L at 590€.. I’d prefer to wait a little bit (JUST A LITTLE BIT) and buy something more.. 2015ish..
Yeah, don’t get your hopes up with a faster SD card interface. Sony is still stuck in 2008. No Sony ILCE camera writes to SD faster than 40MB/s with even the fastest SD cards. No point in going UHS-II if UHS-I isn’t even fully implemented.
Oh, that’s sad. Even on A7RII? Are You sure? 🙁
Soon…=Before end of the year.
I’m afraid you’re right: On mirrorless rumors they talk about an expo in late October.. ?
What do you bet low light performance goes up but because of smaller and fewer color pixels color fidelity goes down at all ISOs, which is a good idea for the cell phones where this technology originated but not for real photographers who will need to show their images outside of Instagram, and we get another one of those Lloyd Chambers articles you guys hate so much about how Sony doesn’t understand what professional photographers need?
Improvements ONLY for Video ??? and what about any price info ?? I hope that’s a decent price ?? anyone any idea ? thanks
Video demands a lot more of the hardware, if they can solve the video (resolution, bitrate, bit depth, AF, DR, rolling shutter) means they overcome every mirrorless limitation.
The top class APS-C is the NX1 that costs $1300, same as the GX8, that have similar specs, so I would hope that they keep the price around $900-1200.
( Sounds like an awesome sensor.. I hope they solved the overheating
issues with this one though. And what about IBIS? Touchscreen? Mic
input? I really hope this camera goes balls to the wall with it’s
features like the A7RII !!)
and all in 8 bit…
overheating?? lX100 does not, is fine only 500,-$ so what?
does SONY know, how to get right and left Food back on grond?
SUMMER 2015-NOGO– do thy think i will buy it–september 2015= 2016 is
real = GH5 FUCK OFF SONY!!
a7r2 = 3500$ = 50% FS-7 = a7r2-customer is full-ill-idiot.. yes/no???
CONY BERTAYED THE APS-C CUSTOMER with its own $K-show..
in false anti nsa englitz
Wow maybe in a7s2 too
Well a A6100 and a A7000 wouldn’t be bad idea, then you get 1000/800/600 price range covered.
But the A6100 should at least get the new EVF model, and who knows, tri-navi
“……This is an info that still has to be confirmed by trusted sources. But my guts tells me that new source is spot on with the info he shared!…”
as your 52 MP A7 sources where….. you have no clue at all…
i only wanted to see if you publish this without any knowledge about the source…. you gave it a SR3…..
That’s the thing with 50% rumors, they tend to be wrong half the time. 😉
“A new source” …
“This is an info that still has to be confirmed by trusted sources” …
“But so far no trusted source confirmed”
He was honest, you were not. Yah for you.
SR3…..
So either you’re a sad no-life, or a sad no-life pretending to be a sad no-life.
yeah you imbecil….. while you believe everything written on rumor websites.. now who is the no-life? lol…..
What? English, do you speak it?
I believed it up until 4k@60fps.
SR1
I would have loved to see Sony do an iterative improvement of A6000 with the same or slightly improved sensor instead of throwing in a new type of sensor that can potentially degrade image quality.
For several months now I have been talking about a new Sony 3d pd bsi stacked 4 layer sensor, and although I do not want to be overly optimistic it sounds like this MIGHT be it
Bayer color layer
1st pd layer
White pixel layer
2nd pd layer.
In addition to the advantages of white pixels the 2nd pd layer will allow faster, more accurate af than any system ever…basically spelling the end of the dslr.
I do not know that this sensor is ready yet, and at 4 layers thick it would benefit greatly from QTF ( quantum thin film )which I also do not know of it is ready yet.
Admin
You posted this patent a while ago.
Considering todays news it may be usefull to post an updated post on that patent?
Speedy develop BSI because TSI(through silicon illuminate) incoming,
and Germanium-on-Silicon is very impressive.
Please tell us more about these technologies.
i saw Germanium on silicon last on image-sensor-world website.
but TSI can’t find graph or circuit-layer-diagram,TSI will favorite in china semiconductor on next generation.
i knew one company will manufacture image sensor with TSI called Galaxy Core.
http://www.gcoreinc.com/news/shownews.php?id=98&lang=en
The single crystal light transmision rate I was able to find for germanium on silicon was 66/88 or 75%.
At 4 layers..as in this sensor that is only about 33% light transmision being the best germanium on silicon can accomplish on this sensor.
QTF can exceed 95% transmision…at 4 layers thats over 80% transmision.
That is a huge improvement with QTF over germanium on silicon.
That differrence is relatively small for a single layer sensor, but high for a multi layer sensor.
As for TSI….that involves electrical transmision through the silicon substrate rather than using electrodes and wires. I question the value of this because we must weigh the loss and noise generated with TSI against the light that is bloched by electrodes and wires.
There is of course some cost savings to be associated with not having to fabricate all those physical connections.
So there are pros and cons to TSI, and I have absolutely no guess if this technology is beneficial or not.
Thats about as much as I found about those technolgies so far …perhaps you can tell us more.
I’ve no idea how that would work. All the sensors we are used to work by absorbing photons (which causes an electron to be stored in a charge well). In consequence, if any of those layers work efficiently (and modern sensors have high quantum efficient), there won’t be much for the next layer to see.
Foveon only works because photons of lower energy (longer wavelength) are statistically more likely to penetrate further into the silicon. Note, it is a statistical distribution, not a rigid cut-off. High energy (blue-end) photons are just more likely to be absorbed (detected) in any given thickness of silicon.
In any event a “white” sensor layer would, if working efficiently, absorb all the photons, so not much point in having anything below it.
Each pixel of the bayer layer absorb a single color, the rest passes through.
The first pd pixel is smaller an under the bayer pixel.
The white pixels are offset and recieve some light of each color. They also have gaps between each pixel.
The second pd layer is under the first pd pixel and receives light fom adjacent pixels only…not from directly above.
Again, I am not certain this sensor is ready yet or that it is in this camera…but if white pixels and super fast AF are true, it could be this new sensor.
I hope admin posts this patent again as it makes much more sense when you can see the picture.
You clearly don’t know how sensors work. Sensor pixels (sensels) can’t select out an individual colours (or, more accurately, photon energy range they will detect and let the others through). Sensels are colour blind. They absorb any photon that comes through (within the range that they are sensitive to, which for CMOS/CCD sensors includes all visible light and the near UV & IR wavelengths). That’s why sensels need a filtration layer. What happens is the filter layer absorbs all the unwanted photons for that colour channel and lets only the wanted ones through.
Now if somebody could design a sensel that did as you said; that is only absorb the photons in the range you want, then you’d be onto something. However, I’ve never heard of anything remotely like this for photons with wavelengths in the region of visible light (easy enough at radio frequencies, but they are several orders of magnitude lower in frequency and within the range of electronics). Such technology for visible light would be truly astonishing, but I don’t think any such thing exists and, if it ever does, it won’t look like a CMOS or CCD sensor.
I’ve already mention Foveon of course. That just relies on the statistical distribution of absorption in silicon based on photon energy, but it’s not very selective. It’s just more likely that “blue-end” photons are absorbed at shallower depths in silicon than the “red-end” photons, but there’s plenty of cross-contamination. The selectivity is not good.
My understanding is that organic sensor molecules actually absorb a specific color of light and transmit the others…is that correct or if not please explain.
It seems a bit of a leap that Sony could suddenly go from a BSI CMOS design to one involving organics. In any event, it’s not how the Fujifilm/Panasonic organic sensor appears to work. That seems to have a convention filtration layer in front of the sensel. It just looks like the organic photon absorption is just inherently more efficient and less noisy.

Unfortinately I have been unable to find an English of the actual patent.
Lok at it and tell me how you think it works.
Please Sony release this camera immediately! I want NOW!
Weird, from what I gather- I think this camera is more to get excited about than the A7RII.
I’m not convinced about RGBW sensors for mainstream cameras. It introduces other issues to do with colour discrimination, differential levels of charge saturation and compatibility with mainstream RAW converters. Maybe more sense in a cellphone where some trick processing can be carried out “in-phone” and the RAW data will never be seen, but in something like this?
In any event, we will see but I would not have thought it likely. However, Sony have surprised us on other matters before, but the system camera sensors have always remained Bayer-pattern.
nb. I know that display panels have has white pixels, but that’s addressing a slightly different issue.
Sony produced some RGBE cameras in the past
what is E?
The key right beside W
It is, but in this case “E” (it stands for “emerald”) was a light blue. As far as I know, Sony used it only on the DSC-F828, which was a bridge (not system) camera released in 2004 using an 8MP CCD with the RGBE filter layout.
As far as I can tell, it didn’t get outstanding reviews. I assume if the filter pattern had been a technical success it would have been developed further.
that would be X here
Emerald. Or more common in the computer field, cyan. They replaced half of the green pixels with combined blue/green pixels.
Emerald.
The camera in question was the F-828
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscf828
Yes, they did. And only one camera (AFAIK) which proves that the idea wasn’t very successful.
What Steve said is right: introducing an White pixel will bring another set of issues. All the previous I’ve seen with sensors with a W, indeed had a ‘paler’ look. It’d take a hell of internal processing to fix those.
Unless Sony has been working very hard under the hood and will truly surprise us. Of course, it COULD happen, but I wouldn’t think about it on a mainstream, top-of-the-line camera.
or better yet: they might make a camera with interchangeable sensors so users could install any of bayer, cmyg, rgbw or whatever they like
RGBW is not good on Bayer – comparison .
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p0c3qJUa6nY/UecNlCmeRzI/AAAAAAAAGrk/ofEaguEx5y0/s400/Aptina+CFA+Comparison.jpg
I think there’s a confusion here, RGBW is a Sony tech that they employ in display panels, there’s a TV with this tech.
I strongly suspect this is the info for an A7s-II. If it’s got 60p 4k? That suggests it’s going to happen in a larger body than current A7 and A6000 bodies.
This also matches the other rumor that Andrea broke that the next A7s-II will have a different body with a hand grip similar to Canons XC10.
60p 4k will NOT happen in current small A7 or A6000 bodies.
IBC is the most likely even for the A7s-II. SONY will certainly announce “something” important there. They always do.
I doubt that, The A7x Mark 2 need to keep consistency on hardware to be compatible with its accessories.
They better name it A9 then, it could be spec wise close to what a D4s represents. And I’m sure that they are holding that name (A9) for it’s state of the art technology, when they are confident that they checked all the boxes in every aspect.
And about 4k@60fps if this is true, they need to make a sensor upgrade program for FS7 owners, because they’ll be mad.
Simple specs often don’t determine image quality and usability of a (video) camera.
4k 60p isn’t happening.
BSI and 4k recording is a given since its in all the new cameras.
Any guesses (based on prior experience) regarding the price upon release?
1495$ Body only
No…freaking…..way.
Ok, maybe…..
Look at the price hike from A7R to A7RII, RX100III to RX100IV and RX10 to RX10II, then consider how much Samsung is asking for the NX1, then consider that for some reason Sony thinks they are a premium manufacturer … and i arrive at 2000$ minimum if the cam really does 4k60p.
The gap to the A6000 which for sure they’ll keep on selling would be too great.
The NEX7 the top APS-C camera had a MSRP of $1200.
It would be wise for Sony to stay in this range.
I think it really depends on what Sony does. New sensor and other features is worth at least a 25% price hike – which would push the A6100 kit to about $1000. If there’s an a5200 probably in the $7-750 range. If there’s a higher spec a7000 that’s been kicked around, I bet $12-1400 is likely as it’ll be a competitor with the top end m43 cameras and priced accordingly. If 5-axis gets added, bump those by another couple hundred. APS-c is lagging, hopefully we see something new soon.
Top-of-the-line Samsung (NX1) is $1300
I expect Sony will under-cut that:
$1250 if given the A7000 moniker / pro-grade or
$1095 if given the A6100 placement
Sony isn’t exactly known for undercutting anyone. Its all speculation, we’ll see soon enough.
Cheers.
You mean like the A7 series is more expensive than most other fullframe cameras?
As if the A6000 didn’t exist too.
My mistake, I was just FE lens shopping so I had those prices on the brain.
Really? $650 For standard setting image quality and better focus performance than full slr (most scenarios) cameras at twice the price? A7R2 has better performance than others at close to half the price and people complain its overpriced? I feel Sony offers a tremendous value…
See my other reply, I was just FE lens shopping so I had those prices on the brain, my mistake.
That is exactly what Sony is known for, at least concerning camera bodies, and that is since the a850.
No confusion here; Sony has been developing RGBW sensors for a few years now. You are right that they also employ it in displays.
Here’s a link: http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201201/12-010E/
Cool, and they are all Stacked CMOS….
I think the best thing for stacked CMOS is the minimal rolling shutter for full electronic mode, I hope to see a “shutter-less” camera soon.
Agreed, 4k 60p isn’t happening in this iteration. It’ll drop in the A7sII first.
4k 60p or 6k 24p both would be game changing and the next step up from NX1 , GH4 ect . Its possible to, since a7rII is half the speed of the smaller sensor a6000 and has to process half as much light.
Lets cross our fingers and hope Sony deliver like they did with the A7rII .
Not possible in any way, the A7rII struggles with Super35 4k@30fps. There’s no way a smaller body could handle a lot more bandwidth than that. Unless we are talking about 5min. limit.
I hope they solve the heat issues. Need a tropical cam.
I own a NEX-5R and all I want is a better autofocus, low noise, IBIS and at least the Dxomark score of A6000. Could you provide this, Sony? If not, maybe next time… 🙂 I really don’t care about 4k@60FPS and other ‘marketing’ ads.
A7R2 killer for 1/3 price?
No it would be a FS7 killer for 1/6 of the price.
If it get IBIS, tri-navi, on sensor HDR and PDAF that works with third party lenses I think I might skip the A7II and go for the a7000, that could be a better deal, the price difference might even allow me to buy a Speedbooster for my MD lenses.
The A7000 was due in spring (official leaked sony roadmap) but did not come because of heating issue.
If it would do 4K internal at 30fps only, then it would no be an issue (A7RII does it, and it is 42mpx FF) so the only answer is that they want 4K60fps and have heating issue.
Let’s hope it means 4K60fps, and if yes, then …. let’s pray for clean 240fps mode.
If it does at least 120fps 100% clean and 240fps 90% clean like RX100IV, then it saves me 950$ from buying RX100IV, and it does it with a bigger nicer sensor (don’t like the 1″ DoF look)….
The only way it could possibly be true is if they made 30fps internal and 60fps external, there’s no way to record S35 4k@60fps, not in the AXXXX form factor.
I would like to see a commitment to some glass. There hasn’t been a APS-C glass released in a while, the Zeiss Touit line is pretty much dead. A camera is only as good as the glass behind it.
Does anybody believe Sony can do 60p 4k on a “floating” sensor stabilization mechanism? I’m highly skeptical of this. I think 60p 4k will require a sensor hard-bolted to a significat heat sync. And,..even this might require an active cooling fan like other Sony 60p 4k models.
Another thing. I bet Sony Pro would be very upset over Sony consumer models being allowed to have 60p 4k. They don’t like competition between them and Sony consumer divisions. (PRO/XDCAM vs Alpha and Handycam)
Very interesting. Technology and heat management vs. Internal marketing and department politics.
They could, on a FS7.
A7RII feature with crop sensor in A6000 body with weather seal? you have a buyer.
Me too…but add GPS to the wish-list…
If you have a android smartphone you can try My Tracks App from Google, it does a great job for tracking and wouldn’t waste battery life on the camera.
need to game changing:
important -> overheat solving.
bit rate -> much is still better.
fast readout -> from photo site switching ,does not d-ram transfer.
high-color -> 10 bit internal record 4:2:2 that enough on-date.
ibis -> skip, this time we want better heat pipe near image sensor.
continue-video AF -> re-focus without vibration ,seem like dual-pixel(fast & smooth).
and others.
i feel sleepy.
please, solve main problem,it so hard to make game changing on one model(camera).
Sony want continue-solve with customer feedback.
I think it would be smart to ensure that the A7000 is weather sealed. Then Sony could start introducing a new ‘pro line’ of high quality, weather-sealed lenses (and bring larger profit margins of the type Sony is getting on the full full side).
Would APS-C users be willing to pay more for high-quality lenses??
If I had the choice of a weather-sealed APS-C lens or a full-frame lens (sort of, kind of weather-resistant but not weather-sealed) at the same price, I’d take the first option. I can see why those who do a lot of portrait and studio work wouldn’t want these. But for those of us shooting action in all kinds of weather, it would be helpful.
And I don’t find the plastic bag accessory all that helpful.
It’s more likely that happens the opposite, they are already making FF weather sealed lenses, the APS-C ones might keep being cheaper and without much protection.
The a7000, if even faster than a6000, would probably be a great sports/wildlife camera, no? Weather sealing would make sense then. A more rugged body, longer lenses and so on.
Sony issue new layer that not photo site ,circuit or dram layer but
it is thermal layer to protect overheat.
Well said
I think Rumor Acquisition Syndrome (RAS) is now a bigger problem than GAS, for APS-C users. We can’t live on rumors.
I think you may be having a brain embolism. You should probably consult a doctor.
Touchscreen please!
I was just FE lens shopping so I had those prices on the brain, my mistake.
RGBW is just bullshit
its a heat sink, not sync…don’t talk out of your arse
Vote for A7000 with -3EV AF sensitivity. 4 Fn dirrect buttons, front & back dial + exposure compensation dial, weather resistant, big back AF-On button and I will buy it. No need for IBIS for me. And bring Sony please 16/1.8 prime! your 16/2.8 is the poorest lens with Sony name. Shame Sony takes money for it.
Tri-navi > Front&Back
Bring back TRINAVI, decent EVF, level gauge, mic input, new non crap high iso 24mp sensor and we are good.
Trinav, better EVF, Mic input, 16mp high iso stacked sensor (like the rx series) 16+ fps, and a 400mm 5.6 G lens.
If the DPReview article about the e-mount AF system is correct, a 5.6 will be on the verge of usable light transmission for OSPDAF to work, meaning it won’t perform any good.
I was looking at the RX10 II for a video camera, but maybe I’ll wait to see how this camera turns out.
I made a very rough estimate that A7Rii has around 31 % more surface area than nex7. That means that if this rumored camera has 4k 60 fps it would need a much more efficient sensor, processor and everything else that makes heat than A7Rii or the 4k would need to be compressed. Otherwise there are going to be over heating issues with the axxxx. I wouldn’t mind better processor etc tho 🙂
I really don’t care about video that much and I don’t want Sony to leave out IBIS or weather sealing just to be able to write internal 4k on their spec sheet.
Canon has just anounced an amazing new lens technology called Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics.
All I have to say for now is that I am really glad E mount cameras will work with Canon lenses.
I have GeoTagr on my iPhone…a bit inconvenient with the process of adding GPS data to the files. Would rather have the feature on the camera…if I’m in a situation where battery life is an issue, I can decide to turn it off myself.
They’d have to really be banking on video shooters going completely nuts over it and buying ’em up like crazy, though, because at that price most stills shooters would then probably just buy the A7II. No way it hits $2k, but I doubt it will have all those specs either.
huh? the entire TV display is one huge RGBW sensor? that emits light instead of capturing it? Or does it capture and emit light at the same time? it’s huge size enabling the display to capture the electromagnetic waves from your brain, process the data, and then emit light as moving images called TV shows which people mistake for actual TV shows but in reality are just a reflection of the inner workings of their minds?
Any hint about a possible lens roadmap to accompany this nice camera? If that even makes sense to them.
+1
I think they’ve decided that ‘road maps’ are just old school BS. They’re addicted to the buzz of surprise announcements.
I picked up a lens today and asked the store’s owner about any news on these cameras. He hadn’t heard anything concrete. He thinks it will come out for the holidays and be an A6100, not an A7000. His rationale was that Sony sales reps have been calling around to see how many A6000 stores have on hand and need. There was talk of another price drop. He thinks that if an A7000 in the $1,000+ price range is coming out, Sony wouldn’t try to move out the A6000. So he thinks that it will be an A6100 and Sony wants to clean out the A6000 stock before the release.
How about larger body?
Well, even the GX8 struggles to do 4k with IBIS, and they turn off when recording any video, and it is as large as the A7rII with half of the sensor.
For current technology, only if they made it DSLR sized like the NX1.
As usual we’ll know for sure after the product will be announced 🙂
BTW, it was an anniversary of sorts recently. 2 years has passed since Sony released their last E-mount (not FE) lenses – 16-70/4 and camcorder-oriented 18-105/4 PZ.
does FS7 haveIBIS?
well… then just make it f4 or less. 2.8? Expensive, but sports photographers would probably love it…
The literature describes this sensor as having a 1,12 iu pixel size.
Thwt translates to about 100mp in apsc size.
The a7rii sensor has abou 225% the surface area of the nex 7.
Hee hee 🙂
You ‘want it now’ 🙂
