In two-three weeks Sony will announce the new high end APS-C E-mount camera. And a Sony rep shared some info with a Dpreview forum user. He writes:
1- Yes, the “NEX” name is gone, 100% guaranteed.
2- “Alpha” will be the new names for the APS-C mirrorless cameras.
3- APS-C Mirrorless cameras will have model numbers in the thousands….just like the Alpha 3000 and Alpha 5000.
4- NEX-7 has been discontinued. The NEX-6 will also be discontinued in the future, probably about a month before the replacement is announced. Reason why it has not been discontinued and the NEX-7 has, is because it has sold very well due to its low price.
5- NEX-7 successor will be announced in the first quarter this year. Rumored model name of “Alpha 7000” is not confirmed as of now, simply a rumor. Not even the Sony rep could tell him what the final model name will be, but he did say it will be the flagship APS-C mirrorless camera without a doubt.
6- Sony is working on a F2.8 fixed zoom lens (probably a 16-50 or 17-55). They plan to release a new APS-C lens road map when they announce the NEX-7 successor.
I am pretty confident that the information he shared is correct. A f/2.8 would be certainly a welcome addition to the ASP-C E-mount world.

Fixed lens E-mount?
Admin I think that you could remove “fixed lens” from the title, it’s confusing !
Thanks for your hard work 🙂
Yep, fixed zoom lens – makes no sense :/
I’m more interested in the “constant zoom,” myself.
By the way, admin could you please tell us if there will be a RX2, or if the RX1 line will be discontinued, as the A7 was launched ?
Thank you 🙂
RX1 will not be discountinued. And yes, there will be a new RX FF!
Any sign of an APS-C RX yet? The gap between the rx100 and rx1 still isn’t filled, although they released the RX10; I would love an rx camera with 24 or 28 f2 lens.
Andrea,
Can you divulge anything more about the additional RX FF? Either the date of announcement or features…, or perhaps both?
Oh, yes. That sounds good.
I bet the constant 2.8 zoom will be huge.
I would like an 24mm f/2 small lens for my NEX but I’m 99% sure that It will never come.
Admin, you mean “constant aperture” instead of “fixed lens”. Fixed lens means camera has a lens fixed into position that cannot be interchanged.
A-mount continues to be ignored then huh?
You didn’t read yesterday’s article?
You mean the obvious typo – 70-200 f/2? Or the Sigma’s 50mm?
There’s nothing there that indicates to the contrary.
For you, and some other people – there nothing that could possibly indicate contrary to the thing you convinced yourself into.
The evidence of A-mount being ignored is all around you and had been for a very long time now.
The only thing being ignored here is the multitude of assurences and postings that a mount will continue as a more pro oriented line.
Also being ignored are all the new A mount lenses comming out in advance of whatever new A mount camera has not yet been anounced.
All the a-mount lenses? You mean slight refreshes of existing lenses?
No matter what you choose to call then they are being prduced and they are new.
I agree to a point. It’s not that I think they are going to stop producing a mount stuff but that they are changing it into something I don’t want. It seems that sony is trying to position a mount as some crazy expensive boutique-like brand going forward. Every rumor about new cameras has been sure to include how high end, and how expensive they will be. The lenses that have come out have been the same. A $1600 50mm, a $3000 70-200 that was already being sold for years! The 55-300 is the last budget lens I can recall being made. A mount users have been waiting for some modern f4 zooms for years. So sony changes nex to alpha and starts building them for that system. I hope I’m completely wrong and ill gladly feast on crow if I am. But the rumors lately and the actions of sony seem to me like they feel nex is the ticket. So they want to make sure everyone knows that it’s alpha and the a mount is on the way out. But they will gladly sell you an adapter to use your lenses. I see an olympus move all over again.
I wish we could edit posts!
I meant to say that they will continue a mount in a different direction in the short term with very high prices. Then move to one mirrorless mount in the next couple years perhaps. Realize I didn’t make much sense that first time. Maybe not this time either 🙂 but oh well it’s just how I see it going. Hope I’m wrong all around.
tjwaggoner, there’s been a rumor about the 24-105 f/4 coming out with the next FF A
There are many A mount economical 3rd party lenses available and sony cannot compete for economy lenses.
Sony must instead concentrate on more expensive higher quality lenses that they can sell for more money.
Even that market is becoming more difficult as sigma and tamron keep turning out higher and higher quality economical lenses.
with all those AWESOME A-mount cameras and lenses what do you expect ? they can’t make them better… they already get the perfection.
Actually, they can. Adding WR & SSM to all top line, for starters.
I love this site – Andrea posts an sr3 a-mount lens rumour and people say it’s proof that a-mount is dead. He posts an sr3 e-mount lens rumour and people say it’s proof the a-mount has been abandoned…
+1.
I have two questions:
1. What would it take to convince those that a-mount isn’t dead?
2. To those that claim and incist that a-mount is dead; how are you adopting to your reality? Have you already sold your stuff? If not? Why not? Don’t you believe yourself (yet)?
I’m waiting for the ned-7 succesor announcement before deciding for APS-C or A7(r) or new Fuji XT
…good time to buy new toy 🙂
so based on those snail steps a good zoom for the A7 can be expected in late 2019? thats a good news for you guys… anyway i’m waiting for the new NEX-7 🙂
This is very bad news. So far E-Mount was for compact/darker lenses, now it’s encroaching into the A-Mount territory. Hope this is fake.
This isn’t bad news. Sony cannot stay behind other mirrorless makers which already produce fast zoom lenses like Olympus and Panasonic, especially now Samsung announced the 16-50 f2-2.8. A f2.8 standard lens can attract a lot of attention to the E-mount. And it is a lens which many E-mount users hoped to buy a lot earlier.
Bad for A-mount is what the OP meant.
Yes, I read that. But its just not right to say it’s bad for A-mount since E-mount gains fast lenses. E-mount already had fast lenses. I simply see no connection between good E-mount lenses = bad for A-mount. Like Sony is fighting a civil corporate war between E and A-mount divisions; Sony is committed to the A-mount, but maybe at a different level than some of us expect.
>Like Sony is fighting a civil corporate war between E and A-mount divisions
It’s about priorities. Sony doesn’t have limitless resources, so more time/money/effort invested in E-Mount means less for A-Mount.
E-mount had Nex 5T, a-3000, 5000, A7(r) cameras, 35mm, 55mm 28-70mm lenses. A-mount got recycled standard lenses. Even Otus isn’t out for A-mount?!!!
I am glad, it isn’t me – waiting for Godot.
Last year Sony released 4 new A-mount lenses, including brand new Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 SSM.
Minor lens revisions to existing lenses don’t make them “new”.
Sony already tried to play on “large stuff that people on the internetz asked for” and it ended up with complete failure (aka. A3000).
You talk of failure – have you got the sales figures to hand? How do they compare to Sony’s projected sales? Provide both of these things – only then you are in a position to declare it a failure.
If it did fail, then why do you think that was?
I got insight info into that. Can’t give you any numbers – I’m forbidden from doing that. But it’s sales were far below any hopes Sony got. So far that in fact that cancelled a project to build 5-series model with similar body shape – one that was rumored on SAR while ago (there were also rumors about 7-series model, but as far as I know – development of that one never begun, so I can’t even tell if Sony had any plans to build it in a first place).
I do not think many asked for the A3000 as delivered with the low res EVF and LCD. The NEX-3N was a better camera, although not better sensor, and at its current sell-out prices should stall A3000 sales for a while. The A3000 with better specs would have been a nice camera, although one that would have had to have a higher list price as well.
For what you paid for an A3000, it was actually a good deal. It did sell for around $300 briefly, where it was a steal. If it had an articulating rear LCD it would have been great (especially if there was eye detect on the EVF to automatically switch to the rear LCD – but that should command a higher price).
Don’t ping the A3000 harshly. It’s a good camera at a decent price. Just because it’s not for you don’t assume it’s not for everybody.
Indeed. Talk of lenses that have an A-mount equivalent is bad news.
We hear the talk from Sony of continued support for A-mount, but talk is cheap when their support for E-mount is so obvious.
All news for the A-Mount is heavily guarded. Which is an indicator of a major A-Mount product launch. Sony A65/A77s are almost out of stock, and accessories associated to theses models are also limited.
The new A-Mount is coming, I actually have multiple emails confirming two models one is the A79, and they’re both APS-C models (because 90% of SLT sales are APS-C). One will be launched by the end of February.
I have no specs, but if anyone knows feel free to post them.
Hope you saved.
Does “launched” mean announced or available to purchase?
I was told to keep watch the web-store, because they may be launched anytime between now, and the February. So I am assuming immediate availability.
No long telephotos and macros for E mount.
There is no advantage to having a native lens mount with electrical connections for macro. Fully manual lenses work better.
As for long lenses, the best results I have seen are Danny Young’s shots of birds with the NEX-7 and various manual lenses, mostly Canon I think.
Automatic lenses are in my opinion best suited to normal distances and lenses up to moderate tele – say 200mm.
Totally dissagry.
Rapidly moving birds and animals with a long lense are where fast af and stabilization are most usefull.
Macro also benefits most from stabilization and despite the fact that man choose to use manual …af can be very useful in macro if used properly.
This particularly true when handholding.
The fact that you can point to someone who gets good results manually changes nothing.
I myself got excellent results full manual (match needle) when automatic anything did not exist..I do not choose to go back to that..but yes you can still photograph that way if you want.
> Fully manual lenses work better.
No they don’t! Nex 50mm f/1,8 and Meike extension tube set work better. 🙂
I was almost considering switching to Fuji because of the lack of a 2.8 standard zoom. I don’t need any specialised lens (portrait, tele-zoom, macro…), I just want a good all-around zoom. I am almost happy with the 16-50 and can survive with it slow aperture (3.5- 5.6) but the image quality is not the best around.
An f2.8 standard zoom is just what I want. The Zeiss 16-70 f.4 is way too expensive and still pretty dark, that would be a very good move from Sony to add a fast standard to their range IMHO.
And you think a f2.8 zoom would be cheaper than the 16-70/4?
I don’t think it would be cheaper, I am just not ready to spend the money on an f4 zoom.
But this said, 16-50 or 18-50 is much easier to produce that 16-70, not sure the one stop difference make it harder/more expensive (cf. Tamron, Sigma 2.8 cheap zooms on APSC “classic mounts”)
Except you’re not going to get a Tamron/Sigma or for that matter even a SAL1650 price. E-mount ‘premium’ lenses are premium in price too, there’s no Sony/Minolta plastic-fantastics in this range.
this. You literally would have to wait ages for prices to come down to SLR lens levels.
SLR lenses would be shitty anyway, so price of SLR lenses who cares…
Why not? The 16-50 for A-mount is cheaper than the Zeiss.
Actually, disregard that. I agree.
I am totally with ya on this. I too have been eyeing Fuji lately and thinking about snagging an XE2. Mostly because of their continued investment in fast and quality lenses such as the recently released 56mm F1.2! Also, their most recent lens road map shows a commitment to fast zoom lenses and even a super telephoto on the horizon! Sony seriously needs some quality telephoto options. I’d prefer a fast-ish 135mm prime at 2.8 over a zoom but at this point, any would do for me.
Even though this is rumored to be SR3, if Sony comes out with some F2.8 zooms for their APSC cameras then you can count me committed. I find APSC to be the perfect compromise for my kind of photography for deep enough depth of field for architecture yet shallow enough for subject isolation when I need it, but f4 zooms, while plenty fast enough on a FF model, is just not advantageous enough for APSC models I feel.
Sony talk is extremely cheap indeed !! Their claimed continued support of A mount sounds very unreliable. Two years of transition, *tops*, sounds plausible, but by the end of 2015 the shift should be complete.
Any news Sel85F18 or touit 50mm makro planar?
All A mount owners need to get with the program. Yes, a mount will have less focus, but at least Sony is keeping it alive during the transition. Just be happy. I’m sure you’ll get a nice FF dslr soon. It’s more than what Olympus did for their dslr owners with the 43 transition to m43.
WARNING EXCESSIVELY LONG RANT TO FOLLOW
Actually the E-Mount users need to get with the program.
There is no confusion the E-Mount is designed for mass-consumer adoption like the Big Mac.
The dream of getting an A99 type camera is never going to happen. Sure the E-Mount is getting a pile of low-end sh#!t/Mac Donald’s glass rate now, but Sony A-Mount lenses have much price tags and higher profit margins.
I know the A-Mount users really are suffering with our all Zeiss line-up, or specialty lenses like the STF, or 500mm G-Series lenses. Yes were really suffering with our best in class lenses, or backwards compatibility with Professional Minolta Glass.
Oh sorry did I say professional around an E-Mount user again. I’ll explain what that means to you later.
I feel real abandoned every time I pull out my SAL70200G2 for a job, but you don’t have one for your little squeakier toy, do you. Yes that top selling 85mm F/1.4 Zeiss or 24mm F2.0 in the camera bag really looks like it’s past it prime.
Maybe you haven’t realized the A-Mount already has some of the world’s best lenses like the 16-35mm 24-70mm, 135mm, 85mm, 50mm, or 24mm Zeiss Lenses. Sony has been pleasing us with updated G-Series lenses lately that were already near perfect.
That’s the reason Sony doesn’t port E-Mount glass over to the A-Mount. We don’t need or want low-end/sh#!t glass.
Sony already has multiple mounts. Remember they also do video. So multiple mounts isn’t an obstacle for the WORLD’S LARGEST CONSUMER ELECTRONICS COMPANY.
Sony isn’t running a charity. The A-Mount is designed for a different Target Audience. The A-Mounts are their Cadillac’s Professional cliental that have very deep pockets. You buy a $500.00 cameras we buy $2000.00 lenses.
Sony won’t piss off A-Mount users off cause they’ll just move to Canon, and Nikon. You want to keep your Goose that lays golden eggs. Once you loose them you’ll never get them back.
Oh and the A-Mount is going mirror-less in less than a year. Hate to see how the FE mount will survive that transition. The A-7 will lose its usefulness to Professional users when the Mirror-less A-Mount A9X arrives.
The E-Mount is like a Toyota Corolla. Designed for the masses cheap with low margins. It sh#!ty AF system isn’t convincing anyone. Yup. I’m pretty sure SLT users aren’t willing to downgrade for a sh#!ty consumer mount.
That’s like giving up your BMW for a TOYota.
Were weeks away from the launch of the new A-Mounts, and if 2011 is an indicator of sales then E-Mount sales are going to drop like a rock.
Yup, consumers with money are going to buy the big A79 well before the A7000 squeakier toy for the next 18 months.
Mirror-less has only been successful in Asia.
U mad bro?
100% Sarcastic. Really anyone who believes in the end of the A-Mount is a complete tool, disillusioned or is in complete denial.
“Sony won’t piss off A-Mount users off cause they’ll just move to Canon, and Nikon.”
You’re new to Sony, aren’t you!
I think Sony is has good intentions, I really don’t think try to piss us off intentionally, but they’re Engineers are completely out to lunch sometimes. The SLT was an expression of this. Sony’s intentions were in the right place but they managed to over engineer a perfectly good system. Hate to see Sony build a picnic table. Good or Bad its more than what the other two have done in the last five years.
Oh Sony doesn’t give up on product lines, they ride them into the ground. Look at the Beta, which bombed as a consumer device and went on to be used by a professionals for years.
Sony has clearly stated that the A-Mount will remain their professional lens mount.
Somebody’s paranoid or in denial, or both.
Honestly, that’s the largest single load of absolute guff I’ve ever read on this site. Which is saying something.
Apparently you don’t read your own posts!!!
Cause they suck!!!
From Sony Directly
Thank you for contacting Sony Support.
I understand that your concern is regarding the A-mount being replaced by the E-mount system. The A-mount units have always been the flagship ever since the release of the very first Sony Alpha camera. Much like the Single Lens Translucent (SLT) technology, the E-mount system is an innovation, introduced to further expand our interchangeable lens line, and in no way a replacement for the A-mount system.
Rest assured that we will further develop the A-mount system together with the E-mount, introducing new technology and upgrading features. We will continue to expand our lens and accessory selection, as well as better the functions of the cameras to adapt to our customers growing needs and wants.
We currently do not have advanced information on the release of cameras, lenses and accessories, as well as software and firmware updates. Sony Electronics only releases full product and support information at the same time it is officially released to the marketplace by our Marketing Department. However, some limited advanced information is often published in various magazine articles. You may also check the Sony Support and SonyStore website below for news and updates in the future.
What we can conclude from this, is they’re killing A-Mount off, right?
daenur = manure
Oh, you make me laugh, sad clown
+1 on that.
You’re a real smart pro. I can see that now. While your colleagues are banking big with canikon gear, you drag your Sony DSLR out. Real professional. Most E mount users came from canikon who decided to give up their less professional FF canikon. If we own such a fabulous machine like the A99 and hose spectacular flashes, we probably wouldn’t have bother with these E-mount toys. Oh, well, sucks for us.
Maybe you need to get with the program.
Sony if your really that much of an A-Mount hater maybe you should seek out another forum. Cause this is Alpha Rumours, and not a deranged Canon/Nikon user (with an E-Mount) support group.
Take you confirmation bias elsewhere. Your analysis is flawed/sucks, and your purported downfall of the A-Mount will never materialize.
I don’t drag kit just three primes, and two zooms for most jobs. Oh for flashes I use the following
http://www.phottix.com/en/studio-accessories/phottix-odin-ttl-flash-trigger-for-sony.html with 2X HVL-F42AM, and 2x HVL-F58AM or http://www.elinchrom.com/product/Quadra-Hybrid-RX.html
And your wrong about E-Mount users is general. Most are amateurs who photograph birthdays, christmas, and childern’s soccer games. The number that actually attempt to pass off professional work with them is very small (A7r users of course).
They’re consumer cameras with consumer lenses with the exception of the A7r. The attachment ratio (lenses, accessories) for the E-Mount is very low.
This is why “A-mount units have always been the flagship ever since the release of the very first Sony Alpha camera” and this will likely continue.
Yup, maybe you should have bought into a Canon or Nikon mirror-less system. Then we wouldn’t have to hear the baseless ill informed rhetoric.
I was a A-mount shooter at one time but I prefer e-mount. I don’t see why people keep saying the e-mount camera is a toy and not professional. Everybody has different needs and some pros can do all there work with e-mount some can’t. I love E-mount but have nothing against A-mount. I may get one again in the future but it wont be my main camera. I Have never once thought that the A-mount was lacking in lenses. Everything I could think of doing A-mount has a pro lens for it and if not minolta does, for me at least. I just wish we could just get along. Why are we always fighting about these things. Only time will tell were sony is going.
if Ax000 is for APS-C mirrorless and the NEX-7 successor will be the APS-C mirrorless flagship it should be named A9000, not A7000 (I can see the NEX-6 successor as an A7000)
But yes, the failure to support A-mount while clearly supporting E-mount seems like bad news for A-mount users (even if they could use their lenses on an E-mount camera with adapter). Surely they do not intend, in the long run, to keep both mounts and call both lines “alpha”, customers will be confused. So what will the A-mount names be? They can’t go Ax, the E-mount A7 took that spot so Ax seems reserved now for full-frame E-mount (can’t release an a-mount A9). “Dynax”?
If it’s anything like the A7-A7r
A7000 would be the NEX 6 (20 MP, AA filter)
A7000r would be the NEX 7 (24 MP, no AA filter)
This would be consistent with the A7000 name for the NEX7 successor AND the rumors of an “r” version.
A3000 is dslr form
A5000 is nex3 series, so then what is nex5-6-7 replacement? A6000-7000-8000? Or drop nex5 series and just 6000-7000? Best to do some non obvious renaming to let you raise prices without it seeming that is what you are doing
Anyway, Nex 5/6/7 is one too much. Especially with A7 being relatively compact as well, and many former Nex 7 users would pick a A7. Many Nex 6 popped up lately for used sale. I am happy with my Nex 5R touchscreen and waiting for a FF touchscreen. Still curious, where they put the touchscreen in in the APS-C crew.
hello, admin, any rumors for new FE lenses?
Admin, is the new lens full frame or crop?
It says APS-C in the title.
About the 2.8 zoomL About damn time!
This could just be yhe same 16-50 f2.8 a77 kit lens in a E mount.
That is an excellent lens.
Question is, just quickly change the mount, or will the whole lens be made smaller, still using the previous design?
That lens is the only reason I still have an APS-C camera. It’s that good IMO.
Yes it is. I don’t see much difference with the 24-70 zeiss I had although the zeiss was better. They could have put a blue sticker on it and sold it for more.
That G lens in the images isnt the f4 zoom… does anyone know which lens it is?
All of the seven lenses at the left side of the picture are new lens perhaps? I have never seen any of them before.
Agreed, I would like to know the source/date of this picture, I can’t figure out what those lenses are either. Perhaps this is very (very) old and just a hopeful rendering of what might have been?
Now that you said it… but I think they have realized by know that people who buy additional lenses want black ones so maybe that’s a little unlikely (given that most of them are silver).
That’s a really old picture, from when the system was first announced. Many of the lenses either changed significantly or were not released.
All I know is that alpha3000 and 5000 are not cameras that will inspire anyone. Will thousand line-up be dslr form factor or nex? Sony seems to be so confusing these days.
I think a talented teenager who was given an A3000 as his first camera would find it inspiring.
These low price cameras can be a way into serious photography for many people.
So bizarre. Plus, NEX cameras have always been Alphas as well.
I hope they fix the fiasco of the 18-105/ƒ4 PZ not being compatible with the FS100/700! And that this new zoom will be!
And what about SLT alpha? It will end?
Well, I just bought a 45mm 1.8 and an Olympus Pen1. Time to try this Micro 4/3rd’s out. Now in no way does this replace my alpha gear, but as a secondary camera- good to go. I still think Oly and Panny have the better lens selection in terms of build, AF speed and optical quality- overall that is. Sony has some heavy lifting ahead of itself.
I agree with you. Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy the pictures taken by MFT. I’ve browsed flickr and although some pictures may be technically good (nice composition, nice subject, small DoF in some cases) I never seem to enjoy the colors or the definition, not even when looking at small pictures on a computer. I plan to have large prints of pictures that I take that I enjoy and MFT doesn’t seem to give me that unfortunately. I might still buy a GX7 with a 12-40 f/2.8 if sony doesn’t release something nice. I have a better hope that MFT will have better sensors than sony better lenses.
That does concern me as I’ve heard the same comments online. I got the camera for free and the lens was only 300 dollars. It’s also supposedly extremely sharp and one of the best values period. I really want the 75mm 1.8, but I’m not ready to put that kind of change into such a small system.
I figure the sensors can only get better. If I don’t like it I’ll just ditch the lens on ebay and take the hit. We shall see.
Ok .. what the hell is this ?!
70-200 zeiss for $19900 !
Full frame E-mount
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/857787-REG/Zeiss_1984_159_70_200mm_T2_9_Compact_Zoom.html
That’s a cine lens
That is one of the zeiss “compact” zoom lenses for cinema. The light transmission has been delineated in T-stops, the iris control (the aperture ring) is clickless, and the focus ring likely has a very long throw (it takes more turning to change focus than a still photography lens). It is also likely highly corrected compared to normal zoom lenses. This lens was designed for people shooting on nex-fs700 and fs100 cameras to remove the inconvenience of needing an adapter for a pl mount lens. It can obviously be used on other e-mount cameras.
That’s a car is what that is. $$$$
Pretty obvious that it’s a lightsaber for the new Star Wars movie
“Usually ships in 6-8 months.”
We’re at 7 months since this post of yours to the remarkable $20k lens. Has the UPS delivery truck pulled up yet? 😉
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE:
More f/2 pancakes please! (OK, any f/2 pancakes)
The f/2.8 zoom, but I likely can’t afford it out of the gate
A NEX 6 successor that adds functionality but does NOT change the physical nature of the camera. Touch screen would be nice. a7 menus, please. Please leave the physical size and location of buttons alone.
Yes more pancakes….pancakes with syrup and blueberries please.
f/2.8 constant zoom APS-C E-mount Sony start to listen people .
Sony, when are you going to fix issue with fs100,fs700 , 18-105 f4 ???? The distortion is terrible , I had to send it back .
I know this is an exaggeration but I *HAVE* to say:
Right now, things for Nex go like that
Number of: Cameras >>> A-to-E Adapters >>> Lenses Roadmaps >>> Actual lenses.
🙂
So true it hurts.
SAR3????
C’mon… ‘my mate was chatting to somebody down the pub who said’…
I was on that thread and I didn’t have the feeling that the OP was making it up, but it’s still a hearsay report of a conversation which the chap was not involved in directly!
Perhaps it is hearsay. Regardless of this, Andrea seems to wait till he has more than one source corroborating information before posting a sr3 or higher rumor. Perhaps some of the info jives with what more reputable sources have been saying; therefore the boost to 50% possibility.
Yay, another huge, expensive, not-that-good lens from Sony ! Good thing my NEX lens lineup is 100% Sony-free 🙂
Coming from the A850 I bought the (much lighter) A7r. And I like it! It’s no toy at all. It’s a killer machine! Using my native Minolta lenses again. Love it!
For me these are exciting times!
Hmmm…are you saying I should sell my mint A900 now while I can?
No, not at all. I don’t sell my A850 either. Still waiting for a fast (+10fps) A-mount DSLR/DSLT. But for streetwork or travelwork, the A7r is my tool. I love the weight! And the IQ!
Am I the only one with this feeling that every E-Mount posting here gets bashed by alleged A-Mount users? Sometines I think this might be µ4/3 or Nikon 1 fanboys, because I cannot imagine any serious photographer so full of primitive hate. Whoever is doing this: Go out, use your gear and get a life.
Noyou are not. I feel that way sometimes and I started out with A-mount apsc & FF.
I photographer/Artist can use whatever he or she feels works for them. If the end result is the photographer/Artist and client both like the finished product then It should not matter at all.
My fate with Sony will be decided by NEX-7 successor announcement, they really got to announce the roadmap. It should have quality optics that are not $1000!
My fate with sony will be the next FF announcement and sales data. If they don’t offer a sub 2K full frame I’m out like trout in a drought- like the fat kid in dodge ball. I’ll have to give into those crappy looking L glass canon lenses and take it in the back door if you catch my drift.
If I was to buy a FF, the lens line up and even more their price would be a defining point. It’s good that Zeiss is lending Sony a help but I don’t think that most people can afford buying only Zeiss/Sony glass, usually they are not as good as a real Zeiss and often they are overpriced. And there is a limit to what you can do with just legacy lenses and MF.
Bump that e-mount ! How about some new SLT’s and A-mount camera’s and Lens. What the hell. Sony has a habit of doing there on thing all the time. Does any camera manufacture ever listen to what the consumer or Pro’s would like. I forgot we don’t know anything. We are the ones using those dam camera’s ! It’s nice to have a new line that is for sure. But don’t forget about the other users from the past. If they don’t show some new commitment for us A-mount user’s soon they can “kiss off” and I’m gone !! I will sale all 4 of my a-mount’s (a99 a77 a65 a57) and my lens. And go some where else. It’s not that I don’t like my cameras I love them, but who want’s to buy or Invest in a line that everyone thinks is going to die soon. Sony tells everyone it’s not! Great Ok it has been a year talking. SHOW US ! I’m ready to update ! Show me some love !!
Why so angry? The A77 and A99 are great, aren’t they? I still love my A850. I’m sure there will be great replacements soon. No doubt.
bump a-mount. Soon no mirror will be necessary for good AF and so there is no a-mount necessary.
What are chances nex7 successor will be weather sealed?

So with a speedbooster I could get a constant 2.0 lens…. that would be interesting.
Well, you could but not with Sony lenses.
Speedbooster only works with other mounts, you can’t use a E-mount lens with Speed Booster, it wouldn’t work.
I wish these lenses had the sexy bling factor the oly 75mm, 12mm and 17mm 1.8 have. Those lenses are so nice. The metal around these “nex” lenses are ok, don’t get me wrong. I just wish they felt more tank like (without the weight) in the hands.
Awsome with a new FF RX!!!
Here is what I wish for…
36m with no aa, optical/electronic viewfinder Fuji style and they can by all means stick with the 35mm f/2.0. 🙂
where’s the wide angle zoom for FE?
135mm anyone?
RX-20. Surprised!?
E-mount 16-50mm F/2.8 will it ever happen?
