Low rated SR2 rumors should always taken with a grain of salt. They are sent to me by new anonymous sources and very often are not correct. But sometimes unlikely rumors happen to be true and the following rumor at least has some small real chance to become true. The source told me:
super cheap full frame beginner mirrorless is coming! 799 us for the kit.
Well, it may or may not be true but Sony really patented such a compact and cheaper FF camera design back in October 2013 (SAR article here). And a highly trusted source told me that Sony has such a prototype in their labs for real!
Those of you arguing that such a price is impossible well…the A7 sells for [shoplink 32326 ebay]1.050 Euro on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. Now imagine a more compact camera without EVF…799 is really not that impossible!
So let’s take the chance to let Sony know if SAR reader would like to get such a camera:

I was tempted to buy a7 at ~900 euro, but decided not to, because of the expensive lenses
I did buy a A7 for about 900€ few days ago and now using some decent Minolta MD/MC lenses. Best combination for photography. For video I guess some other lenses have to be found…
What do you shoot with now?
I bought a6000 instead. Great camera. I’m using sel50f18, sigma 30/2.8 and, very rarely, 16-50. Also, I got beercan 70-210 f4, which works great. I’m now planning on buying something wide, in the 12-18mm realm. Actually, I was considering ff for sub-35mm lenses.
I always wonder what they’re thinking when i hear people say things like “pro camera” and “beginner’s camera”. Not every camera with advanced features is used by competent users and not every camera needs to have all features to be used by a competent user either.
With the tiny FE 35 mm 2.8 it could be the ideal carry-always camera.
Well, I’d consider a compact, collapsible, affordable and sharp 24-70 F8 (!) lens with OSS for my A7 as a daylight everyday lens, similar to the 16-50mm PZ but better IQ, could be a little bit bigger too.
Without a kit lens, I would seriously consider it.
I don’t get this FF hype. I’d even pay more for an APS-C sensor.
Probably not interested, the body of A7 second hand in hk is only around 900 usd and I am talking about super good condition with shutter count less than 1k.
Those who can afford FF would not be too hampered by the cost of the body because of the lens.
They are expensive, the line up is not completely developed, the lens are getting bigger and heavier (that includes body size as well)
Being said that, a rf style FF camera would be amazing.
But probably won’t come cheap.
$800 for the kit? Not gonna happen. All available FE lenses cost that much already. And suddenly, there should be a super cheap (< $200) FF kit lens? Either this will not happen or no one will want to buy this because the lens would be sooo bad.
Bought a SEL2870 kit first time new for around 300 Euros and second time a nearly new one for 160 Euros. Why should there not be a real and small starter kit lens in future ????
A tiny FE-camera would be an ideal partner for the SEL35f28Z (120g only). Great for street. Ideal as well for use in panorama and other tripod application and as second light wight body for any kind of shooting with any compact lens.
Maybe this one got the ibis too. The r&d is ready, no extra cost. Abd with ibis the 200$ kit can be reality. What is they sell the A9 pro level in Q2, (mid level ibis is here with the a7II) and on Q4, for the holiday season they bring us entry level FF with IBIS, and a lot of cheap non oss FE lens.
In fact i can see reasons to made two FE lens lineup: both for IBIS, one line is cheaper because of the OSS is missing, and one for pros. Expensiver, but with much advanced glass.
Maybe the new 28mm F2.0 Sony lens might lower the entry price.
Yongnuo just announced good FF well below $100 mark 😀
You can buy a kilogram of them for $800
Is the APS-C Sony camera line up DEAD ? one can think that because Sony just have attention to FF, and the APS-C shooters have to move to other brands maybe, where is the A7000 APS-C high end camera Sony ????and A-mount camera’s ?
On what do you base this? On a sr2 rumor?
Look at last year Sony came with 5APS-c cameras (4 E-mount (A5000, A5100, A6000 and QX1) and one A-mount). Look that to a dead system to you?
Yes Sony is comming with lots of FE lenses at the moment, but you know what? All those beauties work very nice on your APS camera!
YES
and AF is climbing up as implied on the screening
Medium Format SR3 incase you are interested 😀
There’s no such thing as a high end APS-C the same way there’s no such thing as a classy Miley or a cool Honda…
I heard there is a crop mode in the a7 series… bigger sensor does’nt mean you can’t mount SEL lenses.
And by the way, how long have the canon shooter been waiting for their 7d replacement?
What’s the point of a small FF body when good FF lenses cannot be made small ?
The FE 35/2.8 is a good FF lens and it is small.
I think the point is the lack of manual controls and EVF. Look at the body line-up from sony. They made a camera for everyone… Like Samsung with phones. This could be a gateway drug for the system.
You want to buy your first milc, with zero knowedge. You wach a lot of videos and read a lot of forums, and you see that everyone hates everybody, and the FF is THE sensor size if you want better photos than your phones. So you look out sor some ff gear and they are fuc#@*¤ expensive, because they know a lot of stuffs you dont understand. Like exposure bracketing and aperture, a lot of buttons and dials and fps and ISO 128000 and so on. This is difficult, but hey! Look at this little sony camera!
I know this cam. I had an old canon like this (point and shoot), but this is better because the FF sensor. And cheaper too.
Guess what cam will our friend buy?
This one…
FF lenses can be made as small as 1″ lenses, on two conditions:
1) The mount is broad enough or distant enough from the sensor (E mount fails here, but look at Leica M).
2) The lens is slow.
With a slow lens, the larger sensor will need higher ISO than smaller formats with faster lenses, but the quality will still be higher.
Having said that, I’d rather have not-so-small gear with better quality for my main cameras.
Sony really is a consumer eletronics company after all. But I dont want such a small thing, I hope for an A9 rumor everyday 🙁
Ppl with demand for such a small camera certainly dont need FF and FF-Lenses.
5d4 where are you?
cue random lists of letters and numbers spitting out from afactual remark
YOU might not need FF in a small camera, but that doesn’t mean that NO ONE needs/wants it…
The correct price. Honest price. For a FF with internal 4k SLOG, headphone ack, and live hdmi out.
Open pro level to normal people and not only to rich people!!!!
Go sony GO!
Dunno. FF IQ is nice but in the real world, an A7000 with EVF and IBIS would probably be more useful.
Maybe this is the A7000 and it is FF
I hope not. I think E-mount needs a high-end APS-C camera.
This would probably be called something like A6 or A5.
But won’t the next gen A6000mii qualify as high end APSC? Even the current model is pretty high end, except that the price is a bargain. Add weather sealing and IBIS in the mark II at under $1K and what could be higher end? They just need to keep rolling out great native E and FE glass
Don’t forget, a FF can be your APS-C, with one menu click. If they bring it in at a very low price, then what does it really matter?
very astute and whats the loss of having the 35mm sensor in this case? it need not be
It matters because an APS-C camera will still be cheaper than a FF.
Crop mode is all very well, but to get equivalent of APS-C 24MP, it needs to be a 54MP FF sensor. A high pixel density APS-C sensor such as the existing 24MP in the A6000 has genuine reach advantage over the current 24MP and 36MP FF sensors.
OMG a 108MP sensor just to use m43 lenses on it? I thought e mount was an open mount, now im not so sure, id rather have a more ‘plastic’ option with the choices layed out clearly and made for me..not some arty do dah
Reach doesn’t come so easily… to get higher sampling reach than what’s possible with a 36MP FF, you need a lens that can do better than 205 lines/mm at f/6 or wider. Such lenses are extremely difficult to find. To get the full sampling reach from a 24MP aps-c, you need a lens that can do 255 lines/mm at f/4.9 or wider. Otherwise all is lost in diffraction. Poor people’s wildlife zooms just can’t cut it. Most expensive tele primes will have trouble keeping up.
Exactly!!
Yes i almost thought of that myself :I
Yes, APSC is superior in most marketable ways, i read it on that pop up business site btw
Indeed, I think I’d buy that over a FF equivalent.
An A7000 and an A7II/A9 would be a nice combo to have. The A7000 would be useful for extra telephoto reach with the 70-200 G.
someone with less money wouldn’t, they wouldn’t even have the choice
Yes, i like really good pistachio icecream and ALSO that pure fresh coconut juice :I
I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat and at a higher price if it had a decent EVF and tilting touch screen. True, it *might* not handle big lenses well but primes would be just fine. A good 85mm f/2 or faster and I’m in! This would be a gateway to higher end A9, etc.
Sony will make this camera too. Like with the NEX5, this will be the entry level FF lineup. 3-5 different modell with minimal changes. More manual control, or evf, or both… Even a hotshoe in the 5th version.
The idea is interesting, but in reality I think I’d rather have a rangefinder style camera with EVF and a good grip, like the A6000, rather than an A5100-sized EVF-less camera. I’d really miss the EVF. That will obviously raise the price a little.
Almost identical models with and without EVF that are $200 apart could be possible. I’d buy the EVF model. Would prefer not to lose the hot shoe to an EVF
Agreed
I would prefer a cheap FF in A-mount, A88.
not E-mount .
Even the ‘pros’ would at this point, Ihkjacky
Roll out the trolls, but what about my Apsc mounts! ?!
I don’ see why Sony would do this it will just eat their other camera sales- they are already the cheapest full frame camera csc body -what will they take away to be that price -almost everything else? and what about cheap lenses?
Hahahaahahaha and yet i do….more power to them!
I agree – there’s no point selling a body at that price point without a proportionately priced lens lineup (something like the a-mount plastic fantastics).
Well it is easy, they could get more people interested in the FF Camera’s. They are the only one who sell them at that price (if the SR2 is true there). They could sell a lot of cameras to a lot of people, comming over from other brands (Canon, Nikon, Fuji).
The other thing is: that when you don’t need an EVF but want a great IQ then this camera with expensive lenses may be a good choice. But I agree some cheap lenses are needed to get more people over. But the announced 28mm F2 lenses seem to be cheap…
In the film days Minolta had expensive lenses “G” and less expensive full frame lenses. Given the high price of past FF digital bodies most of the lenses released by Sony for FF A-mount and FF E-mount have been premium brand, “G” or Zeiss. If Sony can get the cost of FF sensors down enough to produce sub $1000 bodies with kit lens then there is a much larger market for medium quality FF lenses like many of the older Minolta AF models.
There are very few advantages* to APS-C or smaller sensors compared to FF so for the same price you may as well get FF, if the lenses did not make it too expensive.
*Exceptions for persons needing the crop factor for telephoto work, or needing the smallest possible body, or the lowest possible price.
A7000 FF with a really good crop mode for the cheaper APSC lenses would be interesting though!
Not without EVF. This is too to reduce costs.
But i shot without EVF and i would have loved 35mm cam and a sharp screen at least, i didnt have either and i did ok, low price is actually important to some people too you know
Perfect camera to get consumers into the FE mount system. With the usual Sony advanced features. Will sell like hotcakes in asia…
😀
I recently sold my only Sony camera, a NEX-C3, which I had once bought to play around with my old manual Minolta lenses, because it had been cheap. I will never buy a camera without viewfinder again. I might buy a cheap FF A6000 style FF camera some day, for that same purpose and to use the old lenses with the field of view they were originally designed for. On the other hand, I might find it sufficient to use them with 1.4x crop on my MFT camera, after I get that Speed Booster I did order, so I won’t need a second body and a second camera system just to shoot with legacy lenses.
Well yes, m43 cameras still have EVF as differentiator in this case 🙂 the speedbooster thing for those vintage lenses though?!
I would but it only if it’s rangefinder styled FF with good EVF and Nex-7 design. Not for beginers but with all needed and pro features. I do not like A7x with centered EVF with nose on LCD or on my thumb. It’s not comfortable, disturbing and very nasty for fast framing, actually this is the main drawback of A7x line to be a camera for fast framing and shotting. Sony, give us FF RF styled with pro features cam.
Hmmmmm interesting…I find the opposite…view finder on the same axis as the lense is a must…!!
yes and i would want such a cam in black not white as shown 🙂
Well then a zacuto thing on the lcd or a view camera would be your only choice 🙂
Don’t be a numpty…
Just saying because even a dslr won’t be good enough as soon as you turn it in to the portrait orientation.
and forget about fast good framing, A7x is to small for centered EVF and comfortalbe fast shooting. I tried it on action and street shots, much worse exepericnce than with Nex-7. Fuji X-Pro1 and X-E2 was best in it regarding RF styled mirrorless but they are not FF. A7x is only good for slow action. There are now many A7x with centered EVF, you have many choices, but Sony should give us one very good RF styled FF mirrorless. All Fuji X-Pro1/X-E2 – and probably some Leica users – would buy it.
Why do you need EVF on the same axis as the lens? It’s EVF, it can be anywhere.
I prefer more RF-styled camera with VF on the side – gives additional stability (nose against the side of cam) and with your other eye you can see what’s happening around without taking camera off your other eye.
my current nex camera is full frame too with the lens turbo II, but lack of af sucks in some situations, I would def buy such camera if it had viewfinder.
And lack of lens options without major outlay for the privilege..next
Weird a little bit he is! – my mentor would say. 🙂
If i were you I’d ditch that mentor… looks like he or she is making you lose a bit of hair.
No, it’s not him, I am always cutting my hair with my light saber
Then I’d say it’s the same bacteria causing the holes in your “saber” that’s also causing the hair loss. Better get tested.
If you are not able to see a joke, then you should be tested.
Stop it, plz. Thx.
Rofl… lens turbo is full frame? Hahahahhaha i don’t even have anything to say for that because the point will be missed
your stupid ? a focal reducer like speedboster or lens turbo turns apsc on a full frame camera equivalent, 50mm turns into 35 mm on apsc 1.4 aperture on FF turns into 1.0 aperture on apsc etc
The same ignorance that leads you to question me about my knowledge of equivalence is making you not see the real difference.
Really? That must be some magic.
I use the the speedboster focal reducer for FD lens, the people posting are stupid, it does turns your apsc camera into a a full frame equivalent.
Exactly what I was hoping for. No EVF bulge to get in the portability way. I would pay even more if it had 5-axis IBIS. This combined with a Zeiss 35mm F.8 would make a nice combination.
F/.8?!! I know you probably meant f/2.8 but now queue the horde that will inevitably go on about S. K’s infamous lens.
Waste of Internet bits.
Judging by the traffic here I’d say at least several kilobytes would be wasted on the server just for such a comment.
Maybe he desires a small lens and is fine with f/8 🙂
if it’s sharp and pocketable, why not?
I agree. Same goes for me.
yes with 54MP and external 4k EVF…
canikon will freak out, and start rolling out only 35mm cameras with a virtual upgrade option once the user is comfortable with cam such that they can unlock the 35mm frame 🙂 that way they can reduce production costs as Sony will, and like the manufacturers do with processors now, sure it wont be a great thing for their users but do they care any more about that in any APSC options at the moment?
Any 35mm sensor A7 users feel hard done by such as this? surely not…best a newbie uses 35mm too and focus is on 35mm camera lenses for everyone that can be compact 🙂
“canikon will freak out”
You assume they are even watching what any other mirrorless company is doing. Sometimes, I doubt it. They are off in their own world.
I was suggesting irony in the fact canikon could think they missed out on another money spinner using 35mm in all cams rather than strange ‘pro’ APSC arrangement.. instead of ACTUALLY offering their system users good value like Sony might XD
I can’t imagine what the overheating will be like on that camera…
Even the regular heating would be at high levels i imagine 😉
Look forward to it!
I struggle to believe there’s a market for a beginner model with an FF sensor… Unless they mean a super entry level ff?
Check price before comment XD
Nice glass of supermarket branded cheap cola XD makes a change from pepsicoke XD
oh yeah and anyone else notice, attach these together and you have 1600 euro medium format camera XD
guess not…
Thats why i am here, to point that kind of thing out…
And zombie defense measures against trolling population…
Imagine four of them!!!!!!! XD
Dude, you are insane, seek treatment
Sorry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otCpCn0l4Wo
It would only be a beginner’s model if there’s an identical thing with more advanced features. Otherwise it’s just another option.
I was wondering if they meant something like the c3, which has a lot of handholding out of the box. If it’s more like the a5000 (feature light rather than dumbed down) then there could be a market I guess. Though most people who want a slim ff body also seem to want an evf accessory.
It’s nice to have an ilc ff that fits in the pocket like the original 3 and 5 series. I know they won’t take away the PASM modes in this so it’s ready for anything serious you throw at it. Just hope the build isn’t worse than the 5R which is an excellent camera.
The price might be possible but without Kit-lens. The A7 you linked to is without lens either.
I will not buy another cam without EVF. I have an Nex5N and bought an A6000 mainly because I missed the EVF in lots of situations.
Take the a6000 and change the sensor to a 12-16 mp FF. Done.
Sneaky. The 12MP FF sensor is the one everyone wants – the super low noise one. But if they want to keep costs down they will need to go with a high volume sensor (because it would be cheaper) – so probably the 24MP sensor is the one they would choose.
I don’t. I want more resolution. So.. 24 mp is fine with me.
Yes! At last we hear something about such a camera, even if only SR2.
I am sure it makes great market sense, so was just a matter of time. A lot of people nowadays are going into photography from P&S cameras, so all of them are really comfortable using back LCD screen for composition and do not require the EVF.
The lack of EVF will give this very healthy price cut and greatly reduce the cost of entry to FF photography, for almost everything apart from action photography.
Enthusiasts and starting photographers will now have even more options to experiment if FULL FRAME with all of these lovely legacy manual lenses that you can get for 30-50 quid on ebay.
🙂 and improvised two cam inexpensive medium format imagery!
I want it provided it has an improved, much less noisy shutter mechanism and a telephone-sized LCD finder.
Excellent news, it seems possible/realisitc but personally i prefer ones with evf or ovf….not just lcd/ed display….;)
Simply get an A7 then ;))…
Had the choice between the a6000 and the A7, but picked the a6000, the A7 is too much a 1st gen machine.
obvious troll behavior
actually no..hipster…
do you have a beard by any chance? yes? XD
Yes we all know explaining an actual choice is nothing but trolling, unlike posting trash comments, random association about whatever with personal insult attempts. Those really add serious perspective and content to the ongoing discussion.
Of course it is possible. If they can sell a decent APS-C for USD 399, FF is basicall just that, a bigger sensor. So it all depends on the cost of the sensor. So does a FF sensor cost 400 USD more than a APS-C one?
My biggest complaint with E Mount full frame is poor AF performance. I wouldn’t care if they just made it cheaper since most of the lenses are anyway quite expensive.
I still think the A6000 is the king of the E Mount lineup. If they bring the same or better AF to the current fullframe line, I’m all in.
both brilliant comments…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSVHoHyErBQ&list=PLE91706F8E6062552&index=3
It would be cool to have an APSC A mount cam where the AF snapped automatically when movement of subject went below the set range of shutter speed so that they ALL came out sharp, and you JUST burst shot with it..
Oh yeah, pro canon nikon APSC AF and no vintage or classic manual focus and manual focus statue shooting primes with superlative image quality and compact form factor…short flange distance? JUST no..
Hows it going trolls?
Dial for shutter speed range ‘:I
I’m pretty sure your brain is damaged. Please take your constant posting of music videos elsewhere you imbecile.
Dropped that nikon on your foot again in a fluster huh?
Not sure who is the bigger idiot, someone who reads things that annoy him or someone who posts a lot of pointless stuff you can just skip if you want. But it is obvious we only have one truly anti social frustrated little teen boy who has not learned how to deal with his life frustrations and anger issues. It truly is very entertaining to watch.
Its not exactly pointless Nerdo, you are though and might as well be troll lol Thanks for the sandwich though, really tasty XD
I’m sure if you are as stoned as you it all makes sense 🙂
Sure…
Uh huh…
This is actually so hipster, a consumer exploiting his paypacket and hipster selective knowledge based privilege..i really hope you are just a troll and not a caricature of a real person instead…
Oh I guess none of your regular targets are around so it is my turn?
Right, I’m ready, hit me with something clever and original. ‘hipster’ yeah you are about 4 years late with that insult, troll: everybody uses that excuse, fanboy, it’s been done to death. Caricature of a real person…. you are asking me?!?
Correct, you moved on to become a Post-hipster: What hipsters become when they realize the negative effects of their nihilism.
Great, so you look at my avatar and the first thing you think is: typical hipster? Funny, nice try though. I’m a guy making a living with shooting pictures, moving and or stills, been like that for 35 years. If all of a sudden you feel the need for name calling, go for it. It’s a fun game, especially with some anonymous online guy pretending to know who or what you are.
So on a scale of 1 to 50000000 how bored / stoned are you at the moment? and do you always try to fix any disagreement with personal attacks and extremely clever and mature name calling?
50000000 at completion of reading that post
Oh I started at 50000000 and I’m now at 50000000000 why else would I reply besides deadly boredom?
I see where this is going,
to save you the effort, tell me, what is your favourite PC/Console game of all time? You can say something that is a FPS and i can say something like an RTS and we can be the model of how you arbitrarily described myself and someone else despite my interest being in photography and its technology and the interests of yourself and the other being well, inefficient trolling that can only work on someone who is as slow minded as you to have forgotten and to join in the whole snake and crane episode: problem…non objective trolls do not have any rights here nor to presume anything whatsoever photographic or otherwise and short of an honest answer to my question…i advise you to troll on you way…

You buy this cam and a Loxia 35mm and save a little against the RX1. Unfortunately the RX1 lens is sooo much nicer..
*prods the marsh..nope, the trolls are sleeping…
There’s no reason why a compact, rangefinder format should equate with super-cheap. If Sony can stuff the A7II’s contents, with IBIS and viewfinder into this rangefinder body, they’d have a monster hit on their hands. And people would pay extra for a feature-rich camera in a compact body. I would. But it has to have IBIS to make it easier to use legacy, manual prime lenses.
*IF* this wil exist (A5?) my guess is: save everything. No IBIS, no viewfinder, maybe even no hotshoe. *THEN* it is makeable with such a low cost. (And it will still sell like chocolate).
Remove focal plane shutter too? 😀
If it can read fast enough, sure! This is entirely possible with electronic shutters.
What’s the point of a super cheap FF camera if you need expensive and large lenses to benefit over APS-C?
I’d still rather buy a A6000 with the great 24/1.8ZA, 35/1.8 and 50/1.8. For 530 € it’s a bargain! A FF solution would be much, much more expensive with just small advantages in IQ, therefore less choices with native FF lenses. IMO, there’s no FF entry/budget market. The current A7(II) is a bargain itself.
Run out of your free drinks at the nikon bar and fancied a little trolling the inexpensive 35mm camera solution huh? I know its all a wonderfully compact system in comparison *cough* -bad faith system-lifetime false economy- *cough*.. no less so the 35mm camera option 🙂
Small advantage? so you should not care about FF here
I’m just saying, I doubt you’ll see any odds of a A6000 with a 24/1.8ZA compared to a A7 with a 35/2.8ZA in average conditions. Plus you get better corner performance, better AF and paying less.
Zeiss 35mm FE is a compact lens that is suitable for such a camera. But yes, Sony does lack high-quality, cheap lenses. But that’s what Canon is for 🙂
Maybe so someone wanting FF, but on a budget, can allocate more of their money to the lenses on the front end, and just worry about upgrading the body later? Same logic has having both cheap and expensive APS-C body options…
Your comment is as pointless as my reaction to it.
1. e.g. save $500 on camera body, spend extra $500 in lenses => improvement in image quality 😀
2. backup body
3. Many FF lenses are small and inexpensive
Gotta agree. I’m a current crop Canon shooter looking to upgrade but I don’t have a big budget. The a6000 looks fine to me. I can afford it with a couple of primes. Sure, going full frame would be nice but I couldn’t afford lenses and I’d yearn for the EVF. Also, I don’t really feel the need for more IQ than what I’m seeing off the a6000 with a decent prime.
I’d be much more interested in an updated a6000 (really want 4k video).
Sony makes everything not to build the one APS-C 4k 600 Cam, because it will
piss dircet on the Fs-7 Cinecam. so the make one jokejump after the next.
WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT!
-i think NOT TO BUY ANYTHING FROM SONY NEXT 3 YEARS..
-they play a assgame with the customer ( allways) so—stop this “rumors”
i call it a loop-troll-paradoxxon.. shame
BYEEEEEEE
Please stay true to yourself and leave, see you in three years!
Tell me what canon do ? Sony is forehead , but they should less experiment and give us some better balance product at the end . Canon c100 ,c100m2 is so well balance with lovely c-log with lovely look straight out from camera . But all of this is overprice
i would be intersted in picking up cheap FF only if sigma start making FF E mount lens, can’t afforad any of those Sony/Zeiss lens
Exactly. As a marketing stunt this is ok, but practically it makes no sense.
The whole beauty of the E mount is that you don’t have to use what Sony lens you get an adapter and use whatever you want and with focus peaking having to manual focus isn’t that big of a deal.
Yes you are right , but you need very good EVF for this .
If you keep on wishing for the ultimate AF through APSC cam you may JUST get what you wish for, a dedicated compact cam that does that while the APSC system itself is shelved, think ahead instead…35mm camera will be really good with AF soon.
APS-C has better DOF. It will always be necessary.
‘better’ says it all really…
The A7 is so cheap as it is. I would think this would cut into sales. How low can you go?
It will cut into sales, but maybe this will be Canon/Nikon entry level DSLRs. Most would be photographers/enthusiasts are coming from P&S or mobile phones and would prefer this to the entry level APS-C canikons, or the FF D610 for the huge price difference.
Only to discover then that the lenses are expensive as hell 😀
IF you just want a body for travelling light for casual shots this is nice. But for e.th. else I favour larger bodies with larger grips (D610 handles very nice, for example). It’s a hazzle to have bad ergonomics when shooting for long stretches. Price wise one has to factor in lenses, too. Sony’s aren’t cheap and add significantly to the body price.
I wouldn’t put anything past Sony. They don’t seem to bother about ‘protecting’ their other camera ranges, unlike other companies. If this is true, I’d buy one in a heartbeat. What’s not to like?
Oh the have a history of trying to protect their other camera and product ranges… its the reason they have used pretty much the same sensor in a camcorder as they do in a camera but cripple the camera’s video options to try and force buyers to get both.
Right. The number of people who buy an A7s and a Sony Camcorder as well because of the missing options must be huge. Because the A7s is obviously such an awful video camera.
Depends: build quality, LCD quality (and possible reflections on sunny days), AF speed and tracking, button placement, handling… It’s difficult to image high quality FF for 799$. But, who knows?
Pair that small FF with reasonably cheap upcoming FE 28mm f2 and we have a new sales hit like x100s only in FF with huge low-light performance. Plus x100s is stuck with built in lens, while this Sony beast can still allow you to put any! Check and mate! Cry Fuji cry.
Don’t forget EVF
Firstly, Sony may as well use NEX6 body form factor or A6000. It’s just SR2 rumor – so everything is possible, even add-on NEX-5 style EVF. Or if we really want to get interesting and down to business – why not use RX100MkIII brilliantly built in EVF? That will for sure fit even in NEX5N or NEX3N body if need be.
Secondly, for those who wants EVF – there’s always a A7, A7r, A7s, A7II etc. Honestly, importance of EVF is exaggerated too much lately. I have A6000 and use EVF only in bright sunlight and only if sun is shining straight to LCD, for everything else I much prefer more comfortable to look at bigger LCD screen. In my experience that situations arise in 5% of all my shooting experience. My friend who does studio work also rarely uses his EVF in studio. Simply no need. I would say if I had a choice of a bigger battery or EVF – I would go for bigger battery.
I’m not sure I could go back to an EVF-less camera but this would be interesting. If they recycle the same A7 sensor yet again and leave off the EVF and IBIS I could see this happening at this price point. Would it be worth it? I don’t know. Would make an interesting/cheap digital back and the AF tracking seems much improved in the A7mk2 even if it isn’t up to the 4D AF standard—certainly faster than the NEX-5 models which still sell well. I suspect it would be a little thicker than the NEX-5 to allow for a full hotshoe but keep the same physical interface.
Sony has been on the forefront of shaking up the camera industry for a while now. Everyone wins because its pushing forward the collective, an advance of the technology that benefits everyone. This will be a when rather than if so they most likely know that if they lead, (as they have done with the A7 family) they will gain attention, followers and ultimately sales. How many people will remember another camera that has another incremental update? What will be remembered is when Sony or whoever gets there first makes a truly affordable FF camera. FF isn’t everything as we all know but its widely accepted as the most versatile platform for adapting lenses and what not. Couple this with a evf like on the a6000 and it will be a unbelievable package. One which I will be very very interested to purchase. We live in exciting times
I am not a fanboy or hater, these are just my opinions. When a company makes consistently good products that work, they are accused of not being innovative enough. The 5D Mark 3 was a huge improvement over the 5D Mk 2, with its great auto focus alone. The sensor could be better but there’s more to a camera than just its sensor. I accept sony develops the best sensors.
The flash is also an important aspect of photography and I believe canon was one of the first companies to offer a radio wireless flash. Sony has plenty of bodies capable of controlling a radio controlled wireless flash without the need for a further external radio transmitter, yet they stick to an over-priced infrared flash system that overheats.
The lens system for sony is a bit shoddy and there’s more to a lens than its sharpness (which again, canon or sigma offer) and how much light it lets in (again, canon offer) but also, the quality of bokeh.
I owned a 5d mk3 with multiple lenses and the quality of bokeh was great, and other than the camera sensor, I couldn’t really fault the system in practical use. Except one HUGE factor for me, and that’s the fact the camera was too big to take everywhere I wanted to take it.
I want to buy the best camera for the job, I don’t care what brand it is so long as the system is good.
I try to tell myself that I can get away with voigtlander lenses and save a lot of money, but the bokeh makes me dizzy, it really is awful. Perhaps this is subjective or perhaps the aperture blades have been designed in an objectively bad way, I do not know.
The flash system is a real let down, the company currently false advertises the a7 mk 2 as being 120fps capable (it’s only a matter of time before they get sued), the sealing is inferior and won’t protect against rain or snow and perhaps the reason canon haven’t been innovative is because it simply doesn’t quite work well enough.
I do hope I am wrong because I am fond of zeiss glass, I am fond of sony’s idea in theory but it’s just not quite good enough and for me that is frustrating.
The a7r with a better shutter, a bit better battery life and perhaps IBIS if it wouldn’t make the camera too big, does start to sound very appealing with a new flash. I feel like the a7r has flaws that really don’t need to exist and that is a shame.
“How many people will remember another camera that has another incremental update?”
I don’t care about remembering the camera, I want memorable photos
The cheap ($600) A6000 outperforms the 5DM3 in every way, focusing speed, stills image quality and especially video. The 5DM3 is overpriced and antiquated, but yes the flash works. If you’re happy with the 5DM3 that’s fine, but don’t try to sell use your religion because no one’s buying it.
Wow, you never tried a 5d3? Tracking with A6000 compared with 5D3? High ISO?
As a matter of fact: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9I9ir6k8tw
Read the analysis of a Sony user: http://www.verybiglobo.com or Northrups testing, or Thom Hogan etc. etc. The A6000 is nice but I highly doubt it’s as good at tracking than the 5d3 (I have sony e-mount cameras by the way and don’t shoot Canon). Besides DR at base ISO the 5d3 doesn’t need to hide in IQ, too, especially when comparing it to an APSC-cam. The price is debatable, but generalizations like those of NikonLor are just fanboy reactions.
Download the raw files and do the comparison yourself like I did and tell me which one did better in the tests, I’ll give the high iso to the FF Canon by a slight margin but the A6000 easily outperforms the 5DM3 in every other test (image quality, dynamic range, focusing speed and accuracy). Do your own evaluation and don’t rely on Hogan and Northrop who both have a ax to grind.
http://www.lavikka.com/5d3.zip
DPreview, IR samples tell otherwise. You can’t debate away better S/N ratio, tonality etc. due to the larger sensor. DR is ONLY better up to ISO 400. Above that the 5d3 pulls away (look at DR measurement curves of Dxo, for example). I use D810, D610 and A7ii and was testing the 5d3 some time ago, too, compared it to my cameras. Have friends and colleagues using it. Found it to be a very nice camera, even as Nikon user. It’s so ridiculous to generalise (“easily outperforms the 5DM3 in every other test (image quality, dynamic range, focusing speed and accuracy)”) as reality isn’t linear and depends on so many different aspects. If it were that great all wedding photographers and many sports guys would already use the A6000 only. Why spend so much for a proven system if the A6000 “easily” beats it?
The 5DM3 is overpriced and a rip off, there I said it. If you were foolish enough to spend over $3000 on this POS that’s your problem. All the rationalization in the world is not going to change that fact. See what it’s worth on the used market, you will be shocked. It’s a mediocre, overpriced, antiquated camera that gets its a$$ handed to it by a $600 Sony. You can’t handle the truth.
I don’t shoot Canon and there is no THE truth. It’s certainly not mediocre.
Ask a pro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5upAyffz7w
Come on. We all know that mirrorless can be smaller and lighter as long as you are not into super fast primes (which are of similar size due to equivalence. And you could reduce size a lot if you didn’t use 2.8 zooms on DSLRs but f4 or slower zooms, or slower primes (e.g. 40/2.8), being equivalent to the sony primes and zooms). But I can’t take this guy seriously when he said he preferred high ISO on the a6000 (10000 easily usable). I had the D7100 for which tests show superior IQ (see IR, DPreview and other sources) and above ISO3200 files are really getting very noisy unless you publish web size images. If the latter is his goal, we all agree that you don’t need DSLRs for that (by the way, I know some press photographers who now take pics with their Iphone only for our local newspapers as their gear is not reimbursed and pics are good enough at those sizes and resolution).
A pro? This is yet another dumbdonkey. The light is all wrong, he sure is a great “pro”…
It also makes short work of the new long awaited $1800 E0S7DM2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5pDJPAd1OQ&feature=youtu.be
The “overpriced”, “mediocre” camera is a favorite for many enthusiasts.
And the “foolish people” you’re talking about include countless professionals, who use this body for everyday work: sport, journalism, fashion, portrait, landscape – you name it. Magazines and catalogs are full of photographs made with a 5D. Where are the shots made with an a6000?
So even if it is overpriced and mediocre, it is still easily good enough for most professional needs.
As a result, if a6000 us better (it is not…) we would have to agree it is POINTLESS. 😀
Canon lens >> Sony lens system. In fact, Sony is the worst of all Japanese companies in lens systems if we just look at E-mount.
Like I said earlier, show us the reference lens for FE…
Why did the Canon do so poorly in the focusing tests, isn’t that Canon’s strong suit?
It was at one time, but time waits for no man or camera manufacturer.
A6000 outperforms the 5DM3
http://labaq.com/archives/51840598.html
Equal DOF? Lens choice? Makes a big difference. Do this at dawn or indoors at weddings. Most tests use totally different lenses to compare. It makes a big difference, for example, if I use the Sigma 50mm Art lens at 1.4 or the 24-70/2.8 lens on my Nikons.
Excuses, excuses. 🙂
Simple logic.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but the 5DM3 is certainly not worth $3000+ dollars. Dynamic range test, 5DM3 left – A6000 right.
At what ISO? As I wrote, Sony sensors have better DR at lower ISO values. Pretty well known ( I use them, too). But what happens when doing this at ISO 1600? I don’t deny Canon sensors lacking quality in DR at lower ISO. But they look pretty good at higher ISOs. This alone doesn’t make it worthless.
They are very different exposures. Really, learn photography and stop thinking about gear. Gear is not your problem.
For what I want the a6000 is no good
Someone should teach this guy about light. Noone using that light can be taken seriously, these are the very basics.
You probably think that 16-50 powerzoom kit lens is better than a 24-70.
BTW, where is the FE 24-70 f/2.8 reference lens?
And you are a paid shill. Take many photographs yourself? LOL.
Another acute case of sensor and IBIS envy. LOL
Not really, I was happy with the pictures the 5D Mark 3 took, the size wasn’t so nice.
Rather than me reply to everyone separately I am going to write it in one reply…
“The cheap ($600) A6000 outperforms the 5DM3 in every way, focusing speed, stills image quality and especially video. The 5DM3 is overpriced and antiquated, but yes the flash works. If you’re happy with the 5DM3 that’s fine, but don’t try to sell use your religion because no one’s buying it.”
I wasn’t trying to sell my religion, did you even read what I wrote? I stated I wasn’t happy with the size of the camera.
I don’t care about video. I think it’s a shame video features were introduced in a photographer’s camera because now reviews are swayed by the video features.
I want to buy an a7, I would like to love an a7 but it’s just not there yet.
I’m not interested in the a6000.
“The cheap”
Nothing is cheap, perhaps the camera might be cheaper but then something else will be more expensive. I don’t think you understood the part where I said I’m not a fanboy? I don’t care whether a sony model is better than a canon model, I simply care about getting the model I want. Sony doesn’t make it but they’re getting there
Canon are the better of the big two DSLR makers, a more reliable and serviceable camera than what Nikon has become.
More D750 excellence:)
One perfect exposure after another. 🙂
What is that a tube light at top ?
camera without EVF ??? useless . VERY GOOD EVF is essential for me . Good IBIS as well , but I understand it price gonna be just 800 , very cheap plastic fantastic .
Then get the A7II and stop whining
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa this $800 camera doesn’t have every feature of a $2000 camera, waaaaaaaaaaaa.
Or worse: it has the wrong badge!
eye level shooting only is very likely a sign of bad photographer: too limiting to choose better POV, the addiction to the only way is also told about you are rather love to play with photo gears and the way you think is right one (obviously, wrong) for shooting than real photographer.
this will come our right after everyone has bought the a7II and a7000…
Are you always this negative? I get the feeling nothing will make you happy.
me? no… doubt it will happen honestly. My transition from Canon to sony was frustrating at first, but i’m extremely happy with my purchases.
what do you shoot with right now??
If you can tell me what that’s got to do with either your post or mine, I’ll be happy to tell you.
It doesn’t, just curious . You stated my comment was negative, but my bittersweet experiences with Sony cameras is relatively new vs. some of the ppl in the forum.
Please dont take my question as a challenge, becuase things of that nature are silly in public forums.
Through trial and error, I’m finally satisfied with 2 Sony cameras: the a7s, and the a6000. But prior to that, I owned the rx10 and the a7r. Both of which are great cameras, but not for me.
Thanks for reading
Don’t bother with him, he’s a jerk.
Fair play. I’m used to less then civil responses on here unfortunately.
A lot of people on here act pretty entitled, simply because they bought something from a manufacturer. I feel that supplying goods as advertised and honouring guarantees is about as far as it goes. I’ve seen lots of people complain about something new coming out, just after they’ve purchased something. That’s the chance you take when you buy anything. If you do your research, you can lessen the chance of that happening.
Thanks again for your civil response.
I shoot RX100, A7R and D800e.
This camera described in the posting is a lower cost alternative to the A7II & A7000, with less features and inferior build quality. You get what you pay for, I would prefer to spend my money on the A7II which is a far superior camera. The fact that this camera is being offered at a lower prices would not have any affect on my buying decision.
I’d rather have a non FF version. Of the a7, all the features and the same mp, mainly an a7000, but the exact same everything else at the a7, which would make a lot of sense, maybe they should just have an a7000, a700, and a7, all with different sensor sizes! (Mainly so you could have 3 price ranges and a tad different options/small sized lens)
This will be a dream come true! Who needs a EVF anyway? A VF was necessary for DSLR because the photographer otherwise had no way to know what they are photographing. A mirrorless camera should take out all these components that were designed for cameras because of technology constrain back in the days! Stop living in the last century people!
Try this in the sun. For casual shooting I find it very nice, but otherwise?
I did it in sunny day with my sunglasses on and had no problem looking at the screen. The biggest complain/reason from people that claim they need VF is there is not enough brightness on the screen… which to me is a easy problem to solve (well some others claim they need the extra resolution on the VF as well…)
To each his own. I prefer VF for various reasons. As long as there are choices I’m fine with it.
True! I used the A6000 with it’s sunlight-mode without any problems. I noticed that I only use the display on my A6000, contrary to how I use my A77 (only VF). Don’t know why. My only complain is: It looks amateurish. But who cares? 🙂
I will have an easy on-off loupe for the screen, as long as it keeps enough dials and buttons to forgo the touch screen. Heck Sony, you could make it without a touch screen if it saves me $50!
Shooting in bright sun is generally very questionable idea.
It’s about the lenses. Fast lenses like the 24-70 f/2.8 are going to big. They need grips. The VF is about letting your brain frame your shot, not to mention daylight issues with LCD.
There are already many models like this for APS-C, so it’s not needed.
About your lens comment, all I have to say is that depends on user preference. For me, using the big 18-200 on my Nex3 wasnt a problem at all. There is no need to hold the camera at eye level and I was able to hold the lens comfortably on one hand and press the shutter on the other.
People just need to realize that when you arent using the VF, there is no need to grab on the body the way you are used to.
For day light issue? read my comment below.
And yes, there are a lot of models like this for APS-C. But there is none for a FF which I would like for low light situation
btw… the monitor on the back is pretty much the same as what the EVF is showing…
NO interest in Full Frame, at any price! They could drop the price to $9.95, and I’d still want a Pro crop camera even if I had to pay $1,299.95 (if they had a f/1.8 90mm to go with it).
Why if I may ask?
The answer is in the name he uses.
How extremely helpful, I have a list of things I’m not interested in at any price, will let you know when it is finished.
While this is kind of interesting – a cheap FF Alpha will certainly capture more light than an APSC alpha at the same price, hence less noise and better pictures even with kit lens – I’m still very happy with my NEX 5N. Sure there’s better at this point, but I’m keeping my 5N until Sony releases their 3-layer Foveon-like camera.
I used to have a DP1 and DP2s, they were wonderful. I ended up selling them because they lack many features, but I miss the color depth and resolution crispness all the time. They were just a pain to use. So, the 5N keeps me going fine, and when Sony has that 3-layer sensor ready, I’ll have my wallet ready.
Foveon is addictive, almost bought a quattro but ended up with a a5100 instead. a5100 size, foveon sensor, Sony features and nikon lenses would be perfect.
I want one… deeply discounted at US$399.95 with a free copy of Lightroom 6 a half year after its launch. If Sony’s pricing behavior from last year is a good indication of things to come, then you can expect this happening next Black Friday. I can see myself using all my Nikon film era lenses on it with an adapter as long as they keep focus peaking on it. Yeah, FF on the cheap, I’m all in for it! The lack of EVF is no big deal, as long as they give it focus peaking and zebras, but you have to give us a hot shoe!
Yes please. Not as an entry level, but as an inexpensive travel camera for me.
If true, I don’t know if it will be very convenient to use : small body and quite large and heavy lenses. Or lenses as small as possible with FF, which means no image stabilization, either on the lens nor the camera.
Well, wait and see.
No thanks. The A7 Mk2 design is where it’s at for the lens size required with FF cameras. If you want smaller, get the A6000. There is also DSC-RX1 FF with fixed lens.
If true, Sony is shooting itself in the foot again. It will confuse the A7 and Ax000 lines. Hope this is just SR2 and goes away.
I just remembered,, can’t metabones JUST make a focal reducer just to shorten the flange distance somewhat making a shorter adapter for use with longer flange distance mounted lenses on A7R et al? XD
That is what we want: another lens between the camera and the lens! Actually a lens that projects the image perfectly on the Sony FF might help with older lenses.
wow you are annoying…
You are right, the avatar wasn’t a good first impression from a troll…
I am? Why? you don’t understand my point? It’s true, it is not about music, it is about optics and you want as little as possible between the lens and camera because…. you know it eats light. A bit like music and glass between your speakers.
you should play Superfrog
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfrog
No as you are JUST annoying. Having a short adapter would suit all my classic lenses for several mounts as they have plenty of contrast and i would use them stopped down from widest aperture in compensation gladly for a tiny tiny system like your brain in fact Nerdo XD
At least now you know how other people feel when they read your posts.
No i beat you up metaphorically actually, you are just too hipster to admit it and too predictable to act for youself rather than JUST convolute
Funny I don’t feel beat up, in fact so far every time I press your button you jump, it is a lot of fun.
Oh really? no that was before, before it flipped around 😀 I was going to say be careful or something i cant remember XD too late huh?!
Sure, whatever the voices in your head tell you.
Dude your switch got flipped looooong before you got here. If you stop sniffing glue you might start to make sense in about 7 years or so.
Nerdo, you have a problem…
You dont exist
And where you live…
True, this conversation is all in your mind.
What do you know about me?
That i havent told you, objectively..explicitly
If anything is a fail it is you trying to outsmart someone… well anyone really.
Put that tiara back on, one day you will surely be queen…
You like my brain? I love you too.
:I as you know, i am now garnering a lot of info through inference rapidly XD
I don’t mind the few extra centimeters… my wife said last night.
Lobotomy? thats awful, and she was in on that for your..practice?
wife? are you male or female?
Ever tried Armagetronad? Lightcycle racing tron style, it’s fun.
Your witty comeback says it all: total dumb@$$
thanks, it is what I do best.
oh yeah please explain all that nerdie stuff, I’m sure someone cares.
Wat?! so no one can like takeover once its going, so it is existential…therefore your philosophy…
You can do whatever you want here, hulk smash your way out of this.
😀
Dude stop using google translate and learn english!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfrog
Haha thats your favourite game? ok i like pixel graphic platform and other such games alot 🙂 Game boy advance is my second favourite system after PS2 🙂
PC Engine is great for graphics…have you tried those? no…I would kill for an effect in cam that would make the scene pixelated like old games but in the cute style with pastel colours 🙂 Im not sure it is possible…I try to make sucha thing once in a while and it is difficult to get anything good…oh but guess what Nerdo?
I have drawn them XD Hahahaha
sold my game Amiga in 1996, too busy with my ‘art’, mountain biking, basejumping, canyoning and working to play games.
yes there it is, you know Nerdo..playing games can sharpen the wits,
And fun isn’t all bad..actually my whole philosophy is opposite to yours ..curiously…do you do stuff for charity at all?
You better go play some more games then.
I do, often
I guess it doesn’t work for everybody.
Like i said, FPS and your team NERDo
FPS? Frames Per second?
Lying about? Only when I sleep
Yes, you dont play games i was wrong about that part 🙂 now i know better 😀
What is my philosophy?
I know..nihilism
I’m glad you know nihilism, it explains a lot about your behaviour, but I asked what you think my philosophy is?
Yes I do stuff for charity, I respond to your posts.
hmm good save XD
BOOM there goes his battleship! sss got PWNED lol!
I don’t even think a knife can sharpen your wits, are you sure you have a whole philosophy, not a quarter one? you only have a quarter brain.
What do you shoot?
I know three things about you 🙂
I’m very sorry you have trouble with family and you find it hard to talk to them about your frustrations. But projecting them on someone online is not going to change the fact you will have to face them sometime and tell them the truth. I feel your pain.
Oh there we go, I know you are from the UK, you havent even tried to fake that, good idea because i have a good sense of that language and nuances of it or rather not of it
I guess that explains it all then.
You guessed you played a game with your sister? Listen if you don’t know what you did with your sister I can’t help you.
“pixels do have a relation to photography” it is just one revelation after another.
anti alias? I’m not anti anything, I find your attitude very negative.
Its my new form isn’t it!!!! Its disrupting your flow completely! hahaha bad luck 🙂
This guy makes no sense at all, I say dumbest post of the month!
Sony got more than enough small bodies now. What we need is a huge pro body with high MP sensor.
With XAVC-S 50MB, S-log2 and Hybrid CD-PDAF like the A7II please! And with the new Sony 28mm f/2 G-series lens, this could be the perfect wide lens + FF body combination that can be mounted on the Nubula 4000 Lite tri-axis gymbal system 😀
It will be lightweight, fast and accurate. Someone can only dream of such a compact yet powerful system. I hope Kazuo Hirai will hear our plea 🙂
#CanADreamComeTrue? #SeeImpossible #BeMoved
So you expect a camera that has all the functionality of the A7II, but at less than half the price? Good luck with that…
No need for IBIS or EVF
The a5100 w/ no EVF shoots in XAVC-S w/ CD-PDAF for less than $500 lol
and thanks! lol
With the nebula who needs ibis right?! Now all we need is a 4th axis vertical walking motion stabilizer arm. The 5100 is cheap, bargain FF should be like totally easy!
still, you need much bigger FE lenses to use it.
without EVF??
If it does come true, $1000 body + Zeiss 35mm f2.8 $799 = $1799 I’m happy and thank you Sony.
So I wonder what the max Fps will be 2.5? Maybe they will add fake shutter sound to it that would be cool and a 180 degree screen so you can do FF selfish. Still waiting for that 28mm F2. Cant get it soon enough! Any word on that future top FE seller? I am praying it’s at least sharp 3/4 of the frame wide open. One can hope!
yes! full frame selfie is the selling point! will buy one in a heart beat!
I want to take pic of my beautiful face in a full frame selfie <3
First runner up for dumbest post of the week, the competition is heating up.
I think sony sony sony pretty much won that competition weeks ago, nobody can bet his bullcrap.
Dumbest post so far this week, just keep using your Iphone and be happy.
I hope nikon will come up with another mirrorless system and beat sony to death with it’s toy garbage
Poor Nikon fanboys, I feel sorry for them!
First they are hoping for a new mirror-less system, then they have to get some lenses for it as well …
It’s possible, but only if Sony builds the camera and sensor and lets Nikon put their name on it. The Nikon fanboys will love it, and it won’t have problems like the D750-POS has. See example:
I sense a disturbance at CanonRumors. As if thousands of Canon fanboys suddenly cried out in horror and were silenced.
All the cheap photogs rejoice in solitary unison…
I would like to see it in a rugged body with the full set of accessories – EVFs, grips, mics, etc.
399,- that is waht i give for this ( buildcosts is arround 87,50$–so go on and likk the ass and
follow like a tech-slave) and yes it is called bloatware… nice that so many people just discuss about taht–some years ago– NO CUSTOMER NO BUY BY BY FACTORY
today the iditotic game with idiots… funny
-this is also for canon and co..
Sounds like another winner guys, I totally love my 5100, if it has fullframe selfie mode I’m in!
Please solve the OVERHEAT issue. If it does not overheat then I’m IN!
IF this would come true, a new cheap pancake lens would be a must. I’m not even going to guess about the specs, just make it similar in size to 35mm 2.8
I would like to see such a body in NEX-7 or A-6000 format, EVF and a choice of the 3 sensors, what means 3 cameras. Here I would go for a 36 mpix for the sole reason that with my APS-C lenses I will get a fine and good resolution. It would be a multi-use tool, all in one in some way.
On the other side, one body, 3 cassettes with the sensor on a drawer style insert would for me be the ideal camera. Ricoh had such a solution with the GXR, the disadvantage was the lens was fixed on each cassette, and that is not ideal. They made one with M-mount what offers restricted and expensive lens choices, here a similar system with e-mount was certainly more welcome, you can put just any adapter on such a system as well.
I think you should bring Sony on such a way, to make one body, with interchangeable sensor cassettes so that future development will just ask for new sensor cassettes, or in some years a new body for them when internal electronics and photo technics evolve. This would give us the choice of multiple sensor cassettes, in pixel amount and sensor sizes, from 1 inch up to FF.
…Eventually, GXR was semi-modular in the way it had designated options to engage together, that idea is totally modular and doesn’t even deal with the matters of video options and the way the WHOLE system would integrate in a total matrix with ALL possible modular arrangements 🙂 Again, this can be done virtually in software with say a modular synthesizer-even then it requires very special coding to make it possible for feedback and zero latency etc and full compatibility between modules. That will take a long time, and in the meantime, semi-modular is the way to go, however i agree that the sensors could be made interchangeable with not so many problems, JUST not that the camera and camera system itself wouldn’t have to be updated many times for it to reach that point of total interchangeability and indeed new camera bodies will be required with each new sensor added to system etc where firmware additions alone wouldn’t suffice.
How would the body be made modular regards ergonomic options also? perhaps the camera itself must be very much interchangable too XD O.O Totally Modular Camera System TMCS SR1 😀
That system on GXR prevented dust and other such getting on the sensor and i think the M mount one had special correction for those lenses 🙂 APSC and no stablizer etc though…lol Would a modular sensor require a double door mechanism or even be quite vulnerable while exchanging them :I Perhaps a Sony outlet could upgrade your camera with the new sensors you buy for it for reasons of economy, preference or just new technology being introduced 🙂 Sell more cameras because the lowest price option is available, sell more, and more expensive sensors because users want new sensors for their cameras they bought XD
Ideally, we would get an A5 with FF sensor in a NEX 5N style body AND another A6 in A6000/NEX7 body style.
But I don’t know if that would be too many models for Sony to maintain:
A5/A6/A7/A7r/A7s/A9
Yes indeed! It’s easy to say that guy X has a bad English while there are only very few mistakes! Non-native speakers are trying very hard to minimise mistakes, but at those disrespectful, moronic native speakers still mock them up while they don’t even know more than one language!
It’s even easier to say that guy X is a troll, but in reality the guy was only expressing his honest opinion! Two mindless claims are already stupidly ridiculous!
You seem to not know that IQ is not the only one that determines how good a camera is. Oh no, well best IQ forever!!!
I can get the particular FF sensor for around 300 bucks then, no shutter, no display No Body! But hey what, the IQ is still the BEST!!!

It’s actually hard to see this as a viable possibility. With that price range I am not sure it will target the right audience, as new beginners usually could reach these price range and they obviously doesn’t want to spend that much on lenses (they will be stuck with one lens, and therefore losing the main point of the camera as a system). On the other hand I don’t see it will attract pros to use this for a second body either… A6000 seems to be more viable as it probably has a better AF system, EVF and lenses won’t be compact anyways. This is just my personal view however.
What Sony could do is release an updated a6000 (a7000), and More lenses!!!
False. Your english is terrible too. My spelling is bad and i incite trolls by telling the truth so its ok.

AF doesn’t matter at all. MF is the best! I am dictating the camera and misses focus every shot of a cute kitten that I’ve taken.

I look for intonation in the way its ‘spoken’ and its not the ‘english’ here that is the problem but the way it is used. I was being sarcastic. Whatever the method you use to make your language illogically reduced…change it, and also get a 35mm camera 🙂
Ok. Whatever you say captain.
I don’t agree, I think this camera makes perfect sense.
Even if enthusiasts/new photographers buy it body only they have access to ANY classic manual lens ever made to experiment, without breaking the bank, excellent lenses for $30-%50 bucks. This is a huge plus.
Then they have the currently limited choice of several decent native lenses (although their prices are above entry level equipment), one outstanding AF lens (the 55/1.8) and Zeiss’s manual Loxia range. Until this camera becomes reality Sony would have announced several more lenses, plus Zeiss a few more from their Loxia range. Sigma also changed their decision and said they’ll make lenses for the FE system.
And then if these new photographers ‘out-grow’ such a camera body they have room to upgrade to the A7 series and potentially A9.
Of course the A6000 is a good alternative entry route, but then if they will eventually get to a point when they have to migrate to full frame (as most people do with todays DSLR systems) and will have to replace their entire lens collection. This is the beauty of this new model, it will allow many new photographers to enter directly into FF photography. Even if they have to pay more for lenses, it is worth it, because they got to keep them when upgrading.
Basically, if Canon and Nikon don’t come up with new mirror-less systems in 2015, in 2016 they will be getting into trouble and starting to feel the heat.
Most likely they will need at least one or two iterations to get such new systems right, and they’ve not even started!
I am not counting their shy attempts with the Nikon 1 system and Canon EOSM.
Nikon 1 is a better system, its got better AF (just verified-actually no i didn’t, and i am making it up from something i heard) so get that instead of the Sony APSC cams with all this adaption nonsense and complications in getting greatest images. thanks!
The only Nikon 1 series that have a decent amount of controls are the V series, with the V2 being extremely ugly, and the V3 extremely overpriced being 50% more than the A6000. Also it has limited number of lenses, just for the benefit of slightly better AF.
Maybe before the A6000 was announced, but now I’d go with A6000 any day, larger, much better sensor, much more native Sony/Zeiss/Sigma lenses, adaptors, more compact body and with built-in EVF.
Thanks! we can refer to this on any canikon talk regards short flange compact mirrorless!
Nikon 1 is pretty silly, the image quality is years behind the nex/a line and no, the AF is not better than the NEX-6 or the a6000. By the way if you want to use the regular Nikon lenses or other brands… guess what you need an adapter. You sir, are an idiot.
I see your point there… Your point is logical indeed, but I kinda disagree that this camera will be the ‘bridge’ for professionals. This is more like a second body. If one decided to move to the FE system entirely I think they’ll go straight to the A7. This is just a personal opinion though only time and sales will tell.
Ok
Why don’t we simply prove automatic camera shooting doesn’t result in good images? shots taken with autofocus and auto aperture, just you know, check that ANY of them are objectively accurately portraying the scene (not a dark or overblown blur of iso noise and discolouration) That would be simpler than relying upon trolls and their political games and pros with their canikons for the ultimate truth regards use of manually functioning cameras AND we can see whether APSC really holds up to 35mm camera as we go by negation too.

One day we might even be talking about smooth and responsive focus control :I
I have no idea what you are smoking pal
DJ’s play records at same speed, its not unthinkable to focus with focus aid even on moving things, in fact i’m sure something can be done regards that problem anyway…after all, you still have to point the cam at subject with AF right?
Whats worrying you about this trolls? that you may be found manually one day? that manual control combined with subject tracking would get you?
Yeah, that’ll be mine! € 799 on street should be still cheaper than an α5100 plus SpeedBooster. I only wish there’ll be an AudioIN at least for ECM-XYST1M or formerly Sony ECM-SST1…
Is it cheaper than crack? That’s all I want to know.
Every ‘person’ that has posted here apart from me is likely a troll, the mind boggles XD That means there’s only one photographer who is actually posting here XD but wait…a master photographer hahaha if they want to learn a camera slooowly, why don’t they just pick up a camera and try it for themselves, if they are lucky, they may learn to shoot empty beer cans etc by the time trolling has been selectively bred out of humanity XD
They know i’m rude so they try and provoke me…
Did we forget to take our pills?
Anyway, Please make only 1 A9 that is excellent in all areas.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Yes, please !
A7 is too big and too expensive for me but 800 euro with lens on a full frame sensor would be perfect.
I would kill for such an addition for my NEX-5n!
I always use Nikon and Leica lenses. Also take a photo with manual mode and manual focus. I still buy this camera eventhough it has no auto focus on this one. Just make it light weight and cheap. To make it shot, shut up and take my money.
It will be for BEGINNER so probably with poor features, so 800 EUR is too much. For this price you can buy A7 or used A7R.
