Mirrorlesrumors posted that image of a supposed new A6100 (or A7000) camera. I’d say it’s 99% a fake. And so the specs they mention:
24.3 MP sensor (different from A6000)
Tri-navi control system
Mag. alloy body
1/32000 electronic shutter
4K Video (10 min limit)
No IBIS
No weather seal
Announcement in 2-3 weeks
Body only price is expected around 900 USD.

“(SR1) I really do not think this is the A6100 (or A7000)”
…and neither did mirrorlessrumors, as of last week.
If no IBIS, I am not upgrading my A6000.
Maybe this is the rumored a5 with FF-Sensor. We gonna see soon 🙂
What is? The camera in that picture doesn’t look very FF to me.
oO… You guys are right, i tooked another look, its seems to be apsc-size 😀 But could be faked anyway ^^
Funny that sensor doesn’t look FF.

I totally agree it is probably fake, and totally agree with your decision to post it just in case as a sr1 rumor.
Consider this an upvote!
I think A7000 will have the front command dial placed on the grip, I find it a very desirable feature for Sony lenses that have no aperture ring.
If this is it, I will stick with my NEX-6.
Sounds very realistic. No IBIS somewhat limited 4K ability, reasonable price, small size focus on image quality and focus on AF……Is anyone expecting something different?
I expect NEX-7 replacement to have 28..32 mp
24 mp is so 2011
24MP is actually a bit higher then needed for APS-C. Diffraction kicks in visibly at f/5.6, sharp images require superb lens (1000 Euro +), fast speed, tripod, base iso and f/4 or larger. It is close to the point of being useless.
Yet Sony can deliver the innovation of A7r ii to APS-C with native iso 25600 and extended range to 102K. This will be several stops higher than current APS-C crop of cameras.
Blazing fast AF working well to -2EV would be great news too.
30fps image RAW capture even at 4K file size would be great. 12fps at full res. 60 or 90 frames RAW buffer, UHS-I support of up to 90MB/s write speed……
14 stops, uncompressed RAW….
The 24MP is just fine, they need to fix a ton of other things.
Come on, if they just extend RX100M4 sensor to APS-C size it will be 20*(2.7/1.5)^2 = 64 MP. Nobody says that 1″ cameras should have 7 megapixel sensor?
1″ cameras have more depth of field for a given angle of view due to the shorter focal lengths needed on the smaller sensor. As such, stopping down beyond f/4-f/5.6 is almost never needed. On APS-C, it is very often needed to stop down to f8-f/11 (similar to that 4-5.6 range on 1″), which would be well into diffraction on a 64MP sensor. Not that there wouldn’t be some improvement, but that a lot of that extra data would be wasted.
Regardless of how you put it, something will be wasted. Either pixels or lens resolution (even cheap primes resolve it in the center). Sometimes you need to stop down to f/22, which is well into diffraction on a 24 MP sensor.
F/8 is well beyond diffraction limit on 24mp. F/5.6 has minor loss of detail due to diffraction on 24mp aps-c
+1 that would play nicely with on sensor HDR.
Totally disagree. The 24 mpx a6000 shown noise on blue sky even at base iso, and sometimes photos looks haze and no contrasty. To me, previous IMIX Exmor 16mpx looks better, especially at iso 100, 200 when u try push the shadows in postprocess. A6000 sensor generate big greenish noise and banding in those situations. And of course @Kiril Karaatanasov got right about the diffraction limits. The megapixerls race must stops, Sony should better give 14 bit uncompressed raw output, like Fuji or Nikon.
Yes, I’m expecting IBIS. Couldn’t care less about 4K yet.
Would also like the stronger mount and build quality of the A7 II series. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for in a high end APS-C camera.
You understand that this will make the camera heavy? Why not just get A7ii instead – it is already heavy.
I hope Sony do keep some lighter camera choices. That is the whole point of mirrorless. Currently every manufacturer has ditched this premise in search of features…..that is so stupid. A7 almost lost their main competitive advantage over SLR-s – size and weight
Heavier, but not particularly heavy.
The IBIS mechanism would be smaller and lighter than the A7II.
Even if an all-metal mount adds a bit to the weight, I’d rather have that so that lenses like the 70-200 and 90mm macro are supported better.
I already have an A7 II BTW, but 10mp in crop mode isn’t ideal. A fast AF-ing 24MP APS-C with high build quality and IBIS is pretty much all I’d like.
A7 almost lost their main competitive advantage over SLR-s – size and weight
I totally agree there. A7-line is not attractive for me because it is no more a “Little Cam” 🙂
Size-wise I want a A6000-alike body with FF sensor.
Weight-wise it gets complicated. I want IBIS, adding weight to the body. But not more than 100 grams (I think 50-60g for APSC is realistic). This is weight one can save from lens-OS. E.g. Nikon announced a 24-70 2.8 VR to replace old 24-70 2.8 (non-VR): +170 grams, 21mm longer, 5mm more diameter. Not to mention that lens-OS requires more glass elements and each glass element consumes a portion of light!
It sounds realistic to me too. Everybody is having so much expectations and high hopes on “the replacement that never comes”, that sometimes we are driven more for our wishlist than for what we could actually expect.
But one thing is certain: whatever the specs it might have, there will always be someone wanting something more. I guess nobody at SAR cares about 4K, but nowadays 4K is more marketable than IBIS for the big masses. And coorporations care for big numbers, not for single users or small niches.
its realistic however not enough for a 900$ camera even branded by Sony compared to other manufacturers. IBIS, BSI should not be dedicated to Sony FF lines only. We are talking about high end APS-C camera and the competitors put BSI and IBIS in their camera ( some even add weather sealing),…unless Sony wanna become the new Canon and only innovate once a decade 😉
There is not mention of BSI or not in the rumor.
IBIS is bad for APS-C if Aps-c is reduced to one or two models
that s why BSI is on Samsung NX1 and IBIS will be on next generation of Samsung MILC …
Are there any reliable rumors of NX1 successor is getting IBIS, too?
http://www.slrlounge.com/samsung-add-ibis-next-gen-cameras/…
or
http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/samsung-could-add-on-sensor-ibis-on-future-cameras
maybe not reliable?
Is just a rumor – but for me reliable enough to believe it is getting true! Thanks!
I still disagree that IBIS is bad for APS-C.
The size increase is not this bad for the bodies – The bodies still remain small. Maybe not as tiny as A5000-line
It is huge increase in both size and weight. I use a7 for street and holidays and since upgrade to a7 ii I am not so happy at all. I use a6000 now because of this. If a6100 is 100 grams heavier I will go to other brand.
If you are using A7 for street and holidays, i wonder why you would not use a bulkier A6000 with IBIS which will be always smaller than A7 😀
The way this works is NEX-5 – 280g, A6000 – 470g, А7 – 470g, A7 ii – 600g. So gettgni 100g on top of A6000 brings it in the same league as A7 ii – 50g for IBIS and 50G for the more solid E mount ….is 100g
A7ii got 126 grams more heavy than A7.
Partly because of IBIS, partly because it is just built more sturdy. It got a bigger hand grip, a more stable mount, it is said to have better weather sealing.
I don’t know how much grams exactly are because of IBIS only – but I guess between 50 and 100. An APS-C sensor is smaller (not as small as a 43, but less than half of FF) – so it is maybe only 30-60 grams more.
And I hope in the long term to switch completely to OIS-less lenses, and if this saves about 30-50 grams per lens, the overall weight is okay again, but it is a little more balanced towards the body, which I prefer.
IBIS and Weather sealing. If it’s an a6100 that’s okay. If there are no plans for an a7xxx or the a7xxx doesn’t at least include sealing then usability is just no longer competitive (see: Olympus: good weather sealing, ibis, and touchscreen letting you tap focus area to focus and trip shutter with one click << amazing for when you hand the camera to someone else to take a photo of you). I've started caring about more than pure IQ (like being able to walk around with the camera while it's drizzling,) so at least for me all of my aps-c e-mount stuff may soon be headed straight for EBay/Craigslist.
Why it’s probably a fake? I mean it looks quite boring for a A6000 owner. No IBIS could be a technical/space issue, no weather sealing a price-tag thing. Than a BSI-sensor to improve ISO performance seams likely, Tri-Navi has been requested ever since and was the NEX-7-like thing Sony rumored to go for. Mag-alloy makes it feel more expensive, electronic shutter makes sense with BSI and is nice when silent. Looks like a decent but not revolutionizing update.
Lens pls… While Sony saw the light of success with FE mount, E mount users should no be left forgotten.
+1 Sony please do not abandon E mount. We want more lenses!
Price looks ineadequate for that specs, supposing no breakthrow in low-light performance. Sony did not manage to do that even with their $3000 A7RII. If the new camera were a mini A7S it would not be 24 MPix. Let them try to sell it…
No EVF? I really doubt they would drop that as their premium aps-c camera.
The Nex-7 has a better EVF than the A6000. To continue this trend the next “premium” APS-C will have no EVF 🙂
Indeed without a brand new 24Mpixels ( we saw that 28 Mpixels on NX1 was not so much a game changer compared to Sony A6000) BSI sensor, IBIS nor weather seals, they would better rename it 5200 than A6100 or A7000
For 900$ i demand ( not request) BSI and IBIS and weather seals ;)…. limited 4K would explain why it s 900 and not 1200$ :D… Moreover 4K would request a bigger camera( against heating issues) so why not put IBIS in it :p
To the one who complain to get a bigger camera, i think Sony A6000 is a tiny camera…Making it bulkier with IBIS will keep the camera still smaller than Fuji , Samsung or Sony A7 lines. I even find my Sony A6000 with SEL1670z sexier than with the dwarfy SEL1650 which looks like from compact camera world :p
Why? The GX8 with all this features costs a lot more.
i would like to see an A3500 that has all the bits and bobs of A6000 but in a mini-A77 body. that will be quite a good match with 18-105G.
Sorry, a3500 already exists. You’ll need to chooses another number 🙂
hopefully this is really a fake rumor.
I don’t want to stick with a non IBIS model any longer. IBIS makes a difference in the choice of future lenses. I want to get rid of the lens-OIS as soon as possbile and move completely towards IBIS only. (except looooong focal ranges, if OIS is really better three)
IBIS is the one thing preventing me from fully committing to a switch from Pentax to Sony.
Sony’s E-mount system is simply horrible when it comes to long focal lengths – there’s almost nothing beyond 200mm, and all of the affordable lenses in the 500-600mm range (such as the Tamron 150-600 and Sigma 150-500/600) lack OSS due to all A-mount bodies having IBIS.
Yeah – it makes me mad: Tamron is A-mount, but no OIS, Sigma has OIS but no A-mount.
But I think this is not the point about long focal ranges in general:
I have the bad feeling that On-sensor-PDAF is much worse than a dedicated DSLR-PDAF-module when it comes to long focal ranges.
Tony Northrup mentioned, that his long Canon-Teles work via metabones adapter well, but by far not as good as they work with native Canon bodies. I hope we can see some more videos from him concerning this topic.
I have no doubt, mirrorless systems will catch up, but I have the feeling that A7Rii is still by far not as good as we wish it should. :/
That’s my feeling too. Zero interest in video or touchscreen. If I wanted to play games I’d buy an Xbox.
I want touchscreen – but IBIS is waaaaaaaayyyyyyy more important. than everything else. Touchscreen has no influence about my lens investments.
$900 probably the a5200 or something
I am more wondering about what a3000/a3500 update will be
This A7000 is starting to become like the mythical Nikon D400 – it is always about a month away from announcement. Has been for about 3 years now.
They will announce a new camera and at this point I think the A7000 makes more sense than a A7sII
But it’s now only 2-3 weeks until the next rumor. I’m stoked. And then only a couple of months until they can start teasing it for CES again and the cycle starts over.
I am getting fed up with this interminable wait. Yes it does seem to always be about a month away… I should have just bought the a6000 while it was on sale and got on the learning curve; now I’m running out of time before my trip into canyon country! I was hoping for an upgraded kit lens… sheesh!
Buy it now, you’ll have 30 days to return it, or you can always sell it on eBay. The missing shots and opportunities worth more than a few hundred bucks imho.
A mag. alloy body but no weather sealing ? That would be silly. This is fake fake fake …….
I can’t wait for the a7000 to come out so I can buy the a6000 at half price!
A6000 is cheap enough, and the A7000 will cost $1000+, prices won’t change.
Sony needs to tell their marketing people to stop beating those Full Frame drums for one d@mn minute, and use some web analytics tools to plot the word frequencies in mirrorless blogs and forums. If they did that they’d see words like “size”, “weight”, “big”, and “heavy” appearing more often every week. I saw a post yesterday from a guy who said he was returning his new A7rII because he found it too heavy to carry around.
A mag. alloy body but no weather sealing ? That doesn’t even make sense. This is fake …..
Why not? Nex7 is magnesium body and no weather sealing. Same with A7, A7II etc.
a7 series is “dust and moisture resistant”
