You can now buy your NEX-7 body only at SonyStore USA (Click here). UPDATE. No more preorders yet! It will be shipped to you in mid-late January. I have been told that also other Sonystores in Europe will soon ship their first NEX-7 cameras and accept new preorders. And curiously, this will only happen with the body only version. The full kit will not be available until late February! And the first NEX-7 on [shoplink 10708 ebay]ebay sold for $3.245,00 (Click here to see it)[/shoplink]!!! Yeah, and that’s body only 🙂
Luminous Landscapes published their final NEX-7 verdict (Click here) and the following statement explains why people pays that crazy price for a NEX-7: “I’ll start this conclusion chapter with my bottom line summary. The NEX-7 is the most exciting camera that I’ve had the pleasure of using in the past five years. ”

Full NEX-7 preorders list. These are all search links. Some stores may not have the NEX-7 for preorder at all: [shopcountry 8454].

      1. I imagine they are getting NEX-7’s in ones and twos. In discussion with some other photogs I know, it has come to light that their supply is very constrained. I was #2 on my dealer’s list and made the first round draft choice.

  1. I have a pre-order placed at Amazon for the NEX-7 with kit lens, but I don’t expect to see it much before March. I didn’t really want the 18-55 kit lens, but it’s what was available at the time since the body was sold out. So, today I hopped onto the Sony Store USA and pre-ordered the NEX-7 body with the 3 year accidental damage warranty (I travel to remote locations that are often wet). The expected ship date is January 23 with free shipping (part of a holiday offer). I can always cancel Amazon or Sony depending on which arrives first…

  2. I sooooo wish that Sony would add standard contrast AF to the A77 firmware and allow that mirror to be removed!

C’Mon Sony….would it kill you to give us that option. Hell, you would sell MORE A77’s

Your translucent mirrors give some erections but I don’t use enough AF to care about it. Im sure many others feel the same.

    Contrast AF in A77 firmware!!

    Cliff

    1. Well for one you would have to remove the mirror completely – not just out of the way. Secondly while you probably could add CDAF to the A77 the lenses aren’t optimized for CDAF so it will focus incredibly slowly! Have you seen the speed of AF using the LA-EA1 on NEX? Expect it to be like that. Will that feel like a ‘pro’ camera… No!

Get over it! If you want the 24MP with no mirror and CDAF buy the NEX7. Trying to handle the mirror and store it would be reason alone for it not to be removable. Try a bit of logic eh? Maybe they should come out with a firmware upgrade to make it medium format?

      1. Or a sensible option would be get a NEX7 with both LA-EA1 and 2. That way you have that sensor with fastish CDAF with NEX lenses, slow CDAF (but no mirror) with A-Mount glass and high speed PDAF with A-Mount. Surely that will cover most situations?

    2. It isn’t going to happen for the simple reason there is no OVF in the camera. If you move the mirror you have no VF and no Live View. You’re talking about a totally different camera and I, for one, don’t see how you could ever get EVF + OVF in the same camera. Not without a big bulky adapter anyway. Then you may as well just buy a NEX-7, as said before on this thread.

      1. If you remove the a77 mirror, you still get live view/evf as that comes from the main sensor. You lose AF though.

        1. Correct. To all those people that think the “top” sensor is the one you are looking through, you are wrong. It’s only there for phase corelation with the main sensor. You are not “watching” that sensor at any point.

I love the A77 body and its toys. I don’t use AF much. If the camera had NO AF at all…I would barely notice it.

I don’t shoot run and gun. I don’t shoot paperatzi style over my head in a crowd. I shoot almost entirely MF.

That mirror is great for AF…agreed. However, it has no other purpose. Yes. EVF does not need that mirror.

          Otherwise, I love the A77.

    1. They’re back on, at the moment, and I just went through the process of ordering one. But it said the estimated ship date is now April 3rd…I’m kind of wondering if i should just wait until a Sony store gets some in and just go and buy the kit…

    2. They’re back on, at the moment, and I just went through the process of ordering one. But Sony said the estimated shipping date for it wouldn’t be until April 3rd…now I’m wondering if I should have just waited until the Sony store got some in and just picked up the kit…

  3. admin, any info on delivery dates on Europe? I am being told from the seller that I will have to wait till January 3rd week. :(. I guess demand from Nordic regions are not that great….?

  4. Tried to order the Nex-7 body on the Sony USA website last night after seeing this update. It was available and I clicked to put it in my cart. When I was checking out, I got an error message that said the item in my cart was no longer available and needed to be removed. When I went back to order it again, the Sony site no long displayed the option to “add to cart” next to the Nex-7 body. January stock must be all sold.

  5. Question about the pre-orders: Do pre-orders from retailers like Amazon count as the pre-orders these earlier shipments are going to, or do they just mean Sony directly? I ordered from Amazon back in September, and i have not been able to get a clear answer from them at all.
