Kits with Flash would be great.
The reviewers have to love this for $600 bucks
So often the major reviewers avoid or refuse to rate
Sony products. Why??
I am looking forward to the reviews, evals and ratings.
DX0 even though they did not eval a37 sal 1650-2.8 etc
FredMiranda = avoids all SONY slt products
Question –
Which Credible third party independent (haha) reviewer(s)
Do you all believe the be the most credible and reliable???
SONY FLASHES??? At this time – There does not seem to be
any Third party FLASH offerings with TTL for the new SLT a99 & A58
Could that be correct?? – Please say it Can’t be right?
NEW ?? FLASHES FROM SONY ANY?? News??? About –
For the A99 or the A58 SLTs
The new flash announced for the A99 is the
Sony HVLF60M – Guide number of 60 (105mm lens at ISO 100)
The Old 58 flash from SONY
HVL-F58AM Guide No. 190′ (57.91 m) ISO100 at 105 mm position
It appears to be a significantly more powerful flash
with faster recovery times (capacitors) and perhaps heat dispersion
OR
HOW ABOUT – Other Flashes (non-TTL) that might fit into the new Sony Flash Shoe?
Thanks
I would have bought one for my wife if Sony didn’t switch the flash mount…
No way I’m going to buy a 600.00 camera AND a 600.00 flash when I already own 2 500.00 Sony Flashes… Sony FAIL once again…
For $25 US, Sony makes the Multi-Interface Shoe Adapter (ADP-MAA) to convert your old style flashes to the new ones. That way you don’t need to buy a new flash for $600.
As a matter of fact… the release of this camera at this time/price/specs seems like its sole purpose was to try and sell more f60 flashes on top of the few the a99 owners bought (That wasn’t part of the ‘sale’ kit)
Use your old flash with a $25 adapter. I think the a99 might even include it.

Yes, the a99 comes with the adapter. I do hope they come out with a new version of the F43AM, as that is the best price/performance flash to pair with a midrange camera like the a58.
That’s funny… I know they have an adaptor… I’m not adapting anything… that’s not why I bought into the alpha system… But moves like this is why I sold one of my 2 alpha bodies and numerous Sony lenses… Also the reason I purchased a N-Word body and 2 lenses in the last month…
So you can ‘adapt’ yourself and the lenses and gear that you have to suit that N-Word body huh? Yeah that makes sense… To nobody ever. Couldn’t possibly use a $25 hot shoe adapter. You seem like a real genius for sure 😉
It means he isn’t just a fanboy. Their is a reason Nikon owners are so loyal, Nikon is loyal to their customers and don’t bring out new connectors ever time they get a chance for no reason beyond forced obsolescence. No valid reason to bring out another hotshot and force people to use wobbly adaptors. If they wanted to ad audio or video connections they could have just as easily stuck an additional shoe on the camera or simply made the connection backwards compatible with existing flashes.
I have been tempted to get a newer alpha, but not so I can be forced to use adapters. I may still get a newer nex because of the ability to use other lenses but I see no reason to go full Sony until they decide on a platform and stop changing for the sake of change.
Glad to see not everyone is brainwashed into thinking all ‘new’ ideas are ‘good’ ideas…
So if you have move on to bigger and better things, why are you posting here? I’m tired of whining. Whine on your Nikon site. It is a waste of time here.
I said I sold 1 of my 2 Sony Alpha Bodies so I am still an Alpha user…
But just so you know… I can adapt numerous lenses to my alpha body, But that’s not why I bought into the Alpha system… I’m not going to ‘Adapt’ Lenses, So why should I have to adapt flashes THAT ARE SONY… No Difference.
And Yes, Nikon has been doing MUCH better than Sony lately with Sony focusing on the toy camera Nex line so much… If they decide to produce a full-frame Alpha closer to what they are capable of, I will pick one up and use my FF Glass that I still own…. Until then I will continue to use my Nikon and Sony(ONE the flash actually fits the body without having to ‘adapt’) and have the best of both worlds… ‘Whine’ about that…
The new shoe is kinda retarded because it does not fit the ISO Flash completely but It still works for what I do but I can see why you don’t like it. I actually switched to the nex system and really doubt I will go back to A-mount. I am selling my last CZ lens on ebay now. I have decided to keep about 3 of my favorite minoltas though. I use old nikon flash’s off camera so it all works out for me. I even sold my 58am. I love your pictures by the way.
I want one!!
or should i wait for next year?
+10 MdB. MrLee is not making any sense. Conservative guess, he spent +-$500 on a body an two lenses and couldn’t spring for a $25 adapter.
Nobody is interested in the A58 it brings nothing new to the party (Bar another hot shoe change) there is no adaptor included in the box either (and Sony are still selling their i-iso flashes talk about customer nightmare waiting to happen)
The cheap plastic mount, downgraded LCD, and reduced feature set will ensure the A58 will die a slow painful death by being completely ignored by most buyers. Most makers tend to make “new improved” (bar the lame 700d) models, not “new and worse”
A58 can tether so I think that is something new.
I think if we looked at it as A37 replacement (because it replace the A37 launch price ) it’s generally a more than great beginner camera
and it’s better than the A57 on some important features like the viewfinder and the new 20mp sensor
the lower res screan is not that important since it actually good for the battery and price
so for 600$ it’s amazing camera , and the old A57 price point (800$) will be filled by the A65 successor which should be a lot better than A57
Yes how logical of Sony their high end APS-C can’t tether and has an inferior sensor for low light (really it’s so far behind the Nikon’s it’s not funny at high ISO)
So yes wow it has tethering which is nice, but would be nice if they had retained all of the A57’s offerings and enhanced the camera. In most ways it’s a notable downgrade over the A57 (bar that and the OLED EVF which is better obviously)
11th April at MediaMarkt (mediamarkt.pl) Poland for 2000PLN (about 640$)
Is there a vertical grip for this camera? I haven’t seen any internal specs on it.
Thanks,
