What you see here on top is the official new “Exmor RS” logo. As you know most current Sony sensor are branded as “Exmor R” sensor. The Trademark description captured by Xperiablog doesn’t unveil any other details. So we don’t know yet what that added “S” stays for…

Entertaining a guess it has something to do with the rumored on-sensor PDAF sensors in the next NEX-5R, no? 🙂

I voted for this one.
makes most sense.
i like the new colors for SARS
It is for stacked exmor r sensor, will apply first on Xperia mobile phone, then cyber shot series
Interesting, when it will reach NEX series. I suspect in 5-10 years…
I think S means stacked?

Sony’s Stacked CMOS Image Sensor Solves All Existing Problems in One Strok
um… can it act as a solar battery?
um… can it cook coffee??
😉
Would love a NEX-cappuccino maker 🙂
Does it mean “Stacked”?
I think Pei nailed it!!
S = Speed as iPhone 4 vs. IPhone 4S
+1 agree. 🙂
Why do I get the feeling that just like the “R” version, this is just another sensor that’s going to be too small, with too many pixels headed for a compact? I hope it’s their next step for a large image sensor. Probably not but I can dream right?
If Sony could make an APSc size R sensor and use it in next generation Nex cameras then Nex will rock in the ISO performance. Am I dreaming to much?
This stands for stacked sensor. This is the next evolution of Sony image sensor design.
The “S” has got stand for Stabilised to bring in body stabilisation to the NEX line, yeah…
S = Shutter. As in a Global Shutter? Just a thought.
Well back in the Minolta days, RS meant Re-Styled.
S .. As stabalization ?!!!! Hope so .. I really hope so. If not it would be stacked and I hope we will see them on the new NEX.. All I want in my new NEX6. Is a better ISO and a faster AF..
