Sony NEX-7 full preorder checks and seven new fullsize image samples!

[shoplink 8454][/shoplink]

UPDATE: There are seven new full size NEX-7 image samples you can download at Imaging Resource (Click here). Let me know what you think about the quality of those images!

Many of you are asking me when the NEX-7 will be available and where it is possible to preorder the cameras. It’s not as easy as you think. For example only a few European Sony Stores are offering preorders (See Sony France, Belgium, UK, Switzerland, Netherland). I was curious to see in how many countries Sony is selling their cameras via online shop. I made a list of countries with links to Sony Stores and also a couple of other big stores. It’s up to you to find the NEX-7 preorder option! P.S.: Didn’t know there is a Sony Store for Kazakhstan and Moldova too!

  1. pfff, that last picture is a great size comparison between A77 and Nex 7. The Body is much smaller, i give you that. But overall…

    1. That’s because the 55-210 lens is pretty long. If it were the 18-55 the comparison would be more meaningful. In fact, the 18-55 would only extend as far as the end of the zoom ring on the 55-210.

  2. In my eyes the samples are not really sharp. I wanna see some samples taken on a tripot. I think the unsharpness comes from the handheld shots, but I’m not sure.

  3. The problem seems obvious at the tele side. The 2nd photo taken by 188mm lens looks unsharp even shot under f/8.0 aperture and ISO 100. Really unsure the problem is from the lens or from the JPEG compression rate. I believer that the contempory lens cannot resolvie the resolution.

  4. The three pictures in the middle look ok/good. But it seems that there is no lens that fits to the NEX 7 resolution. Bad thing if this could only do the Leica! The should spend time optimizing the kit for the NEX 7 than changing its color to black!
In the panorama you can see that the software is not final – the board is not put together correctly.

  5. Mwell, these shots are all at f/8, ISO 100 : there is nothing to say about specific NEX7 IQ.
    I want real full sized image samples (and not 1024 x 683 cropped) at ISO 3200 & 6400 :p

  6. So for people with high demands, it is probably Zeiss and coming G-lenses that will be up to task (or Leica lenses etc. with adapter, of course).

  7. i have to wonder if this guy knows how to actually take photos or is just a happy snapper.

the dog pic is oversharpened and has a pixel look about it
the surfer guy when standing and looking off to camera left with the dog all around his head you can see oversharpening artifacts just by looking at the picture as it appears on the webpage

definatly wont be looking at his site for a review of the a77 in its final form

  8. Okay, so I examined the close up of the dog photo and looked the EXIF data as well. It seems it was using the E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS lens taken at 50mm at f/9. It seems the head area was the focal region with the nose and eyes showing details. However, very quickly I see the life-jacket and body fur, showing a lot of blurring. Shutter speeds were at 1/320. This is either issue of the Lens or the quality of how the camera resolves with a lens. I don’t see extreme micro details as I do with my full frame gear.

  9. Yuck! This lens sucks ;). Fringing is an issue and it seems to have a problem focusing right at different focal lengths. What’s up with the soft corners!
Zeiss and G are the only options for good sharp photographs, I don’t even have to mention contrast and color. Sony please make a Zeiss 50mm f1.4.

Any news on the G specs? Focal length and f-stop?

      1. Not a good reason not to make them. Good glass will always be expensive.
Like everyone says it stays with you while the body can change.

  10. Любой объектив на матрице APS-C 24Mp на F=8 не даст резкого изображения за счет дифракции. Предел резкости F=6.3.

  11. Fringing/CA is often the lens, so on that part we can re-compare it later with better (Zeiss) lenses to see whether it’s the lens or the sensor.
v0.06. We got 94 days more to go. .01 ver per day.
    j/k..

  12. Part of the reason for high nex pre-orders is that they are available in more places. i.e. Amazon UK take nex-7 pre-orders but don’t even mention A77 or A65 despite them arriving over a month earlier in the UK.

  13. Going to withhold judgment until we have a production unit to see samples from because these are all middling at best. Going back between viewing these samples and my 5N JPEGS is night and day.

  14. mhh some really promising photos there… i couldnt help but notice: the Nex-7 seems to come with the same horrible shoulder strap as the rest of the Nex, hoped for something a little more suitable 😉

  15. Botched the panoramic of surfer… the board is warpled and his hand has half a finger missing.

Could we please get some RAW samples (convert to JPG for viewing)… but these JPG engines of Sony are so painterly that it looks like a special effect option rather than a realistic shooting mode for artwork or journalism. God turn off that noise reduction please. All of those images… it looks like there is something between the photographer and the subject.

I see high degrees of center and midfield sharpness… and although corners are blurred, they don’t have that “smearing” look of lens registration being too close. So I’m excited because I think this will provide super sharp corners with a higher quality lens, or a full frame lens adapted down.

Don’t be so hard on the zooms people. Sony is reaching a very good compromise with image quality vs zoom range. Better stills will come to those who purchase high quality primes. But these zooms have excellent feature sets and quality for video, and pretty good IQ for enthusiast stills. I think Sony has good compromise here, and these zooms will service togs very well .

Now… Could I please have my USB WIRED REMOTE please Sony? Where is it and why did you leave it out? All the IR remotes have delay… Can’t do remote action shots that way. You’ve limited my photography by not giving wired remote with two stage button for focus then shoot. Make a wired USB remote Sony… Do it! Do it and SAVE THE WORLD from delayed remote shooting. Do it and kill the competition once and for all!
