    1. I have mine and it’s superb – got in from cardiff camera center on saturday.. Great place BTW…

From a real world point of view – I think its great. handles well and noise control is superb! I have an a900, a77 and now the a99… good at focusing and the noise control is far far better than anything else I have had. Compair with nikon etc.. don’t know.. But its good and with the zeiss glass .. the camera is really very good.

much more playing to do! 🙂

put it this way.. if you have the glass already .. its a no-brainer (well if you have the money!). If you don’t and you want a superb camera – you will not be dissapointed.

  1. the BHphoto link is error(cannot find the server) did u got any news when Malaysia will get the a99 and start let people order or getting it?

  2. The Chinese test is still using the pre-release firmware by the look of it. Still can’t judge final IQ yet.

Someone must have a release firmware version by now.

    1. yeah agreed, only some review that make around this few weeks using version 1.00, and yet they said it is not the final yet, but the picture quality given out by version 1.00 and 0.90+ is far different can clearly shown out and visible by eye. The test using version 1.00(still not the actual final one) is really impressive, dynamic range is really outstanding than anyone else one this sensor

  3. Guys… I got mine yesterday… (around 8PM MALAYSIAN time) 🙂 played around abit…

    ISO 3200 is very good…
ISO 6400 ~ 12800 is usable as long as not underexposed…

    Likes
Focusing is faster and more accurate under low light (big improvement over A900)

    Dislikes
Startup abit slower than my A900
In Low Light, the EVF will cheat your eyes (brighter than actual picture taken)
    Battery sucks…
The focusing selectable points are too close to each other… makes it harder to focus on the left/right/top/bottom frame…

Will give more feedback after my event shoot tomorrow…
Still getting used to the EVF..

      1. A pretty glowing review and some nice examples. thanks for the before/after LR images. It helps give more depth to the article in the actual use of the camera where a lot of time and energy is spent with making an image.

I am curious though, I don’t think you ever mentioned the IBIS as a benefit for the system. Certainly for static subjects a lower shutter speed can be achieved with lenses that there is no VR or IS equivalent in other systems. Street and natural light portraits come to mind as benefiting from this (that and EVF are my main reason of interest over D600 or D800).

Was the picture of the grapes hanging in the vineyard the winner of the landscape shot?
        thanks

    1. I got explanation why Sony’s AF is cluster more to the centre. As we know, the sharpness of the lens will be lower on the edge compare with on the sweetspot centre area. As such relying on the AF sensor on the edge area will not improve situation than focus and recomposing technique.

        1. thanks for the info! but how they got the a99 so fast but official sony no news at all at the moment? and the a99 batt grip they sell only RM299? got that cheap!!?

    1. puggs where did you find that info?
was meant to ship in au yesterday
neither sony, nor where i pre ordered at camera pro can give a actual date to me still after i called them

      1. Sony Store Brisbane and Robina(Gold Coast) said they will hopefully have them by this weekend coming, but they could not guarantee this. CameraHouse Brisbane city is having a launch function tonight so my guess is they have some.

        1. Correction: The CameraHouse launch is tomorrow night. They don’t have any to sell, only the demo and can’t guarantee shipping date because sony does not have any. They say maybe mid November

    1. For cameras like this one, there are not kit lenses. You got to buy a proper lens.
      Kit lenses are for wannabies.

      1. At the risk of starting a flame war, the OP asked a reasonable question.

The use of the term “wannabies” is for “wannabies”, whatever the hell one of those is

A more reasonable reply might be “Cameras at this price range and with this kind of functionality are usually targeted at more advanced users. Manufacturers usually expect them to buy lenses separately”.

It’s not quite true either, Sony sold the A850 in a kit with the 28-75 (a perfectly fine lens) and you can buy the 5D with a 24-70 I think (another decent lens).

      2. Tool.

Here in Australia there are 3 ‘kits’. 1 Body only. 2 Body + 28-75mm f2.8 SAM. 3 Body + 24-70mm Zeiss. The 2 ‘kit lens’ options are a little cheaper than buying them separately. To say kit lenses are for wannabes makes you sound like a tool. There have been plenty of ‘kit lens’ options on lots of cameras that don’t mean the pretty average 18-55mm zooms (which wouldn’t work except in crop mode on an A99 anyway).

  4. Just pre ordered mine at a Sony launch night here in Australia. A launch special of $2499 one night only, i couldn’t resist. I inquired about the rumored price drop previously posted here, but they could neither confirm nor deny it…

    1. Wow that is very cheap. Even if you don’t want to hold on it you can make easy few hundreds profit reselling it.

  5. I bought (PREORDER) it for MYR 9299 (approx USD2999) and got the Battery Grip for MYR299 (approx USD 97)…

And got a Free 16GB Sony SD Card which I have upgraded to 64GB Sandisk Extreme for MYR220 (USD 70).

Also free Sony Backpack which i have traded for the Battery worth MYR299 (USD 97)…

    1. Do you have a link to that making of video that mentions 422-hdmi-out in combination with green screen?
My Atomos Ninja 2 is waiting for my A99:-)
