A photoshopped RX2 image …no big deal 🙂
A source just shared this:
The next generation of SONY RX1 or RX1R (not sure which name is correct) will have a pop up EVF same as RX100 IV. And it will use the same sensor as A7R II, the 42M BSI. Size and the shape is similar as the current one.
I guess there will be no more a “R” version as the A7rII sensor already has no anti aliasing filter. This could become a nice street camera for those who want the A7rII power in a more compact size. Just to display the difference here is the exact size comparison:

Source: Camerasize.
Yep I think that RX2 would make a lot of sense!
A7rII preorder list:
In USA: at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama, SonyStore US, FocusCamera, Uniquephoto.
In Asia at Digitalrev, CameraPro.

Hmm. RX1 with interchangeable lens would be nice.
Instead, I was thinking, if the RX2 had a short zoom such as a 28-50, or even a 28 to 45 to make it more compact, plus a wide angle adapter that widened the view to a 21mm — and they made it more affordable — that camera would be a killer on the market.
And then it would have to be F4 or something like that and it kills the fun. I think Sony got it right with rx1 lens wise, it’s bright, has awsome rendering and quality. I’d take that over any slower zoom.
Then it wouldn’t be an RX. People want an A7Rii with 24-70/f2.8 interchangable lens in an RX1 form factor. Which is impossible.
Then at least an A6000 successor, please. 🙂
What are you talking about? The body of the RX1 is the same size as the a7 series without EVF and grip: http://camerasize.com/compact/#488,468,ha,b. Make it a little taller and have a pop up EVF and lose the grip and add an e-mount instead of the 35/2. How is that ‘impossible’?
What part of the above camera size comparison picture did you not understand? The A7Rii (thats what I was talking about, not the A7), is significantly bigger than the RX1 (yes, without grip and EVF). So, as you admitted, the RX2 must be bigger if you want IBIS, EVF and no grip.
I said “RX1 form factor”, not “taller than A7Rii without EVF+grip – form factor”. That was what I was talking about, to answer your question.
A popup EVF a-la RX100 is indeed welcomed, but if you ask me, everyone who wants an RX2 with interchangeable lenses, IBIS and all the good stuff from the A7Rii, have no clue about why people bought the RX1 in the first place.
The fascination of an RX1 together with all the bells and whistles of a full fledged A7Rii is impossible. Thats what I was trying to say.
The a7 shows how small a interchangeable FF emount camera can be, and it’s the same size as the RX1. Shift the EVF to a pop up EVF, remove the grip and Sony being the tech giant they are will have no problem fitting a revamped IBIS system into it. Finally shove in how many gigapixels you want. I really dont understand how that is ‘impossible’. Impossible is if Sony made a 10-100mm f/1.4 FF pancake lens. This is no where near impossible.
Sony should hire Tom Cruise.
You are asking for the wrong thing. You want a more compact full frame e-mount not an RX1 (basically an a7 without an EVF). The RX1 is a part of the cybershot line-up which only features fixed lens cameras.
That would basically be the A5. I would take one immediately. Would pair nicely with the Loxias and the 35/2.8.
pop up EVF – i hope it will be larger than the one on rx100
Gonna start saving up now 😛 SO EXCITED!!!
I hope it also has IBIS/OSS as well.
I’d prefer an A5 camera to have no pop-up EVF and no IBIS to keep it compact and cheap.
Otherwise there is no point making one, because it will end up being of similar size to the A7RII, just without the EVF lump on the top, but will have to grow in one or two dimensions to house the EVF & IBIS electronics.
I’d like a plain FF version of BEX 5N, solid metal body, the excellent 42Mp sensor with the 399 PDAF points and improved colours, thats all.
That sensor won’t go into a Budget FF Camera. Forget about it, maybe we get a newer version of the 24 MP one.
What I do see is right now that we have some lack of cameras between A7II (1620€) and A6000 (550€) both just body.
What would I drop there?
1 APSC premium body keeping the rangefinder style body at the 1000€ price tag with IBIS, and full controls.
1 APSC sort of pro body in the style of A7II in the 1300-1400€ price tag and added features (more burst, better EVF, dual card slot, sealing, top AF etc.)
1 Full frame rangefinder body at the 900-1000€ as a cheap entry body.
I was hopeful to get an EVF that would have had the properties of the A7rII, namely the sheer goodness of the magnification. Comparing A7r to my RX1 EVF, the A7r has a nice sized EVF and I would love to have at least that and I believe pop-up EVF won’t give us that…
A7rII EVF is even bigger (or at least the magnification appears to be) and that would have been even nicer.
I don’t think pop-up will be a great solution because the practicality of it is almost “here just in case” rather than “here and it is nice to use”
Bad news, RX2 will not shine. It seems that they skipped the curved sensor.
Any news regarding it?
Maybe an RX1s, please!
Yep, high sensitivity definitely makes sense on a camera like this. However, I hope Sony is not starting different models here, as well! A high sensitivity sensor with more MP than the α7S II, let’s say ~18MP, would be great and a superb 35/1.8 lens (if size permits), so you can shoot nice street portraits. A usable macro mode would be a nice extra. BTW, that’s what I don’t like on the Leica Q: very bad high ISO performance, 28 mm focal length and the exaggerated price.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The A7R2 Sensor in a RX2 – I’d be in, if the fl would be something like 28mm.
I’d be happy if it keeps the lens, has IBIS and 4K with optional 4K in super-35.
IBIS would make it too bulky.
The 35/2 was /is nice, but I do prefer it a little bit wider for my style.
Well, my style disagrees with your style and a few mm thicker is nothing compared to the benefit of IBIS.
You can’t please everyone!
That being said, I keep my position where Sony should have developed a series of 24-35-55 RX1 cameras.
Also, the 35mm isn’t really 35. More like 32, so, between 28 and 32, not much different.
Use OSS in the lens instead of IBIS then. Problem solved.
Maybe they’ll figure out a way to put 3-axis stabilisation on the sensor and the rest on OSS. Who knows.
Almost pulled the trigger for Leica Q, but a new RX1 is definitely gonna obliterate Leica in terms of sheer technology.
I’m just asking myself what “sheer technology” really means.
Besides the price of the Q (which I think is insane), Leica has shown us how to make the thing right. Of course, too expensive and probably too late.
No doubt, Sony is great on “sheer technology” (still not sure what exactly that means), but they still have no clue about how to make a well balanced, thought-through camera. Leica nailed it with the Q.
So, yes, a new RX1 is definitely gonna obliterate Leica in terms of sheer technology, but not as a camera. If I could really afford a Q, I wouldn’t think about the RX2.
But, just my opinion. It’s your choice at the end.
I totally understand what you’re talking about, since I also own Leica M system and several Leica lenses.
It’s more like a Zeiss v. Leica thing. If you want the best resolution and optical quality, Zeiss Otus probably is gonna trump every Leica lenses, maybe even ZM lenses can. But Leica does have a special rendering, say the Noctilux field curvature or the general Leica glow.
I’m just thinking Sony’s sensor, autofocus, stablisation technology is gonna obliterate Leica’s offering.
(btw, Zeiss Hollywood Distagon(28mm) is a prime example of showing that Zeiss is not all about resolution, despite the Otus)
It may sound a little drastic, but even if I admire Sony for pushing the industry forward in recent years, for me, the Sony benefit can be reduced to one single aspect: Sensitivity (A7S sensor, to be specific). That is currently the only reason that could justify a Sony camera for me. Again: I’m talking about today, not yesterday. Of course this is my personal, totally subjective opinion.
I belive that a RX1 mk II would make sense with a 42 BSI Sensor and a focal length of something between 24mm and the current 35mm of RX1. This sensor can allow for cropping and take full advantage of a good lens designed for it. For the sensibility, as most review prove, A7RII sensor is not that far behind of A7S’s sensor.
Of course it would make sense. What I was trying to say is, with the Leica Q, there is no reason other than the A7S sensitivity, to buy a Sony instead.
Of course, a used RX1 for 1500USD/EUR is a far better buy than a Leica Q. But a 3k-3.5k RX2?
The Q has better build quality, same IQ, unmatched (yet) EVF, DNG files, outrageously superior UI, better design and, last but not least, better resale value. The only thing missing is the A7S sensitivity.
“…A7RII sensor is not that far behind of A7S…” from all what I have seen, this is definitely not true. In terms of sensitivity, you may compare the A7Rii to a Nikon D4s or Df, but in no way to the A7S.
Leica Q is bulky when compared to RX1.
3-axis / 5-axis…
Actually there is the same mechanics necessary:
For 5-axis the sensor has to shift in X and Y direction and rotate in Z-axis.
5-axis is just about more sensor-input in terms of shaking.
IBIS would be a challenge to cool down too.
How do you define bulky?
For me bulk is stuff like the EVF-hump on A7 series. A7ii is same bulky than A7. This 3mm here or 2mm there does not really count. And the bigger grip of the mk2 series is not the housing for any IBIS parts.
Admittedly correct.
Please let me say it this way – I’d prefer it being as small as possible. 🙂
I want it as small as possible with IBIS. Just because I can use it with really small lenses, handheld, in lower light:
https://rumors.limboint.dev/wp-content/uploads-legacy/sonyalpharumors/2014/12/Voigt_Heliar_40_28_4_A.jpg
If it isn’t tiny, the rx1 has no reason to exist.
Of course it does. Which other AF 35mm f2 lens you know that is as excellent as the RX1’s in that size?
Only the Sigma, which is huge, and the new Sony 35mm 1.4 can match it for sheer performance and even then, bokeh is not as smooth and the fall-off is not as steep.
The downside of having such a great lens fixed to the body combined with the high cost versus an a7 body + 35mm 2.8 (which is only slightly larger) doesn’t really seem worth the trade off.
It does, because on top of all of that (compact, high performance lens) the leaf shutter makes my work easier by allowing me to film (with another cam) and still shoot photographs at the same time without creating any unnatural noise. That, really, is just priceless.
Sure, not many work like me, but the benefits of the RX1 are hugely under-estimated. Besides, the 35mm 2.8 is not just a stop slower (this is important if you have to work under any light) but is not anywhere near as great as the RX1 lens.
maybe you are right – but I still want the best of both worlds 🙂
Make it at 40mm f2(at least) and built in a NEX-7 body with a 36mp sensor and A7sII CDAF speed.
For less than a A7rII.
Also, IBIS seems pretty pointless for a fixed lens camera. Perhaps OSS could be nice but at that focal length it’s still not entirely needed.
Extended versatility in low-light still situations and more keepers in general is nice. So it may not be needed in absolute terms, but it’s a welcome feature regardless of the focal length, especially with those high-MP sensors.
Anyway, with the RX1’s direct competitor offering stabilization, I’m not sure how Sony could pass on this feature in the next version.
I’m familiar with the benefits of stabilization, however sensor based stabilization may be a less than ideal choice versus lens based stabilization since the benefit of stabilizing the sensor is lost when you cannot switch lenses. It comes down to the added cost / size of IBIS versus OSS.
I disagree with “the benefit of stabilizing the sensor is lost when you cannot switch lenses”. Of course it’s a huge plus to have a stabilized setup regardless of the lens you use, but there are benefits to using sensor based stabilization in a fixed-lens camera.
– The prospective curved sensor enables the use of a much simpler lens (easier to manufacture, less sample variance…), and adding OSS kind of kills this benefit.
Check out the patent that shows the possible optical formula of the lens on the RX1 II – no bells and whistles.
– According to Christophe Casenave from Zeiss, in-lens stabilization affects image contrast. See this interview (seventh question).
No such effect with sensor based stabilization.
– The 5-axis IBIS is arguably more effective than the current OSS.
The rumor is for the a7r2 sensor in an rx1 successor not a curved sensor. With this setup, OSS may make more sense from a size/price perspective. With a curved sensor / specialized lens – I am not in an engineering position to know the feasibility of stabilization.
I do not deny the benefit of stabilization in general but I question the utility of IBIS on a camera with a fixed wide lens if it adds size or cost.
Overkill, if they could make the 36mp sensor focus fast on CDAF like the A7sII it would be much better, and would not add much to the price.
And maybe get IBIS/lens IS.
No big deal but why keep calling it RX2? There’s been no RX200 or RX20.
That would put it in the 1″ productline
His point is those other RX series have II, III and IV monikers rather than going to 20 / 200 etc. so likely the replacement for RX1 would be Rx1 II.
?????? the only question I have is when???
Shut up and take my money!!!
Hope they do a nice grip accessory like the EM5MKII. Sensor-shift, IBIS, 4K and a Zeiss 35 1.4 and I’m in!
NEX7 with fixed collapsible lens would be the bet IMO. Tri-Navi and super slim body.
Make it 36mp and focus via CDAF as fast as A7sII.
The separation of sensor and camera and sensor divisions makes the curved sensor camera very unlikely.
Sensor division is not likely to make a special sensor to be used in just one specialized Sony camera. I expect the camera was developed and close to production, but was one more victem of Sony’s constantly changing marketing plans.
They are much more likely to produce high quality cutting edge sensors for multiple uses.
The probability of putting the a7rii sensor in a new point and shoot camera seems very high.
Nikon has been silent about new camera development, perhaps an autonomous sensor division will be to thier advantage.
The delay of the rumored a6xxx seems to be another victem of Sony’s constantly moving targets.
The restructuring will have little to no impact on the rx1 successor design if this camera has been planned for a near-term release.
i guess we are not far off Leica Q prices then…
If there is a RX2 with E-mount and IBIS, Sony has another customer.
It’s already been released.
A7II, A7rII and A7sII?
Use compact lenses with those.
The 2nd versions are an absolutely mass in terms of design. They are not as compact as the previous. Ther are trying to move into and a DSLR design which was not the reason why we bought the A7 line at the first moment.
The 2nd versions are an absolutely mass in terms of design.
True – but I think even 1st version was the almost same mass in terms of design.
Actually the 2nd version has just a deeper grip. The body without grip is only 3mm thicker and 1.5mm higher. That is nothing!
A small body is one of my top-priorities when it comes to the choice of a camera. But nevertheless I prefer mk2 body over mk1. With any attached lens the deeper grip does not really add size, but it is much more comfortable to hold.
I am not a fan of the A7 series at all, because it has this view-finder hump. I want a smaller body. Call it A6000-style or RX2-style. Or look at the pictures of this rumor and you will see the size-difference between A7 series and the RX1:
30mm in height!!!
The Zeiss Sonnar lens on the RX1 has no peer. The Loxia is certainly not as good (and has no AF).
I think you will find that it does ,though in a rather huge package
http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-RX1R-lens-on-Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-RX1R-versus-Sigma-35mm-F14-DG-HSM-A-Nikon-on-Nikon-D750__1196_894_1057_975
A pop-up viewfinder on an RX1 model is wild speculation at best. This would be senseless and counter intuitive. There is no need as the much desired EVF on the RX1 would take up very little room–just look at the a6000 and NEX 6 & 7. A pop-up was invented for the tiny RX100 to keep it tiny (although Panasonic did it without using a pop-up).
The Problem with a pop-up for a pro level camera like the RX1 is that one, it’s a two step process, and two, it’s much more fragile. Sony is not going to do this with the RX2.
Yea please!
Integrated EVF big YES, but Pop-up one absolutenlly NO!
The only problem I see is the potential whopping price increases that seem to be the norm for Sony . The A7r11 came out here in the UK at £900 more than the A7r which for me anyway is a step too far. The RX1r was £2400 at launch god knows what they would charge for this !
One thing I do hope for is adding the grip!
Oh come on…It’s so pretty the way it is…
I agree with you on the aesthetic part, but it’s so much easier to hold the camera if it had a grip.
Suffer for your art …suffer for your art…
Or maybe an attachment …ala Oly em5 ?
I’d buy one if it has the A7rII’s PADF, along with all the other specs. I rented a RX1 and found the AF to be really inconsistent and the fly-by-wire focusing made MF a real challenge. Fix the AF and this would replace my 28, 25 and 55mm lenses.
Then again if the price is going to be like the Leica Q, i would be better off buying the a7rii with the 55mm f1.8 lens
Or a Q.
I bet the 42MP BSI sensor will be the “new 24MP Sensor” and we will see plenty of cameras over the next 3 years useing it.
Really looking forward to it!
…and absolutely no firmware updates… and manual focus that craps out after 2 years
Look at the Contax G2, now make that digital. With the sensors we have today that’s easily a cold-dead-hands camera. Just don’t make it so small it’s irritating to use like the RX1. I already have a tiny camera and it’s my phone and it’s pretty damn good for what it is. When I’m using a FF camera, I can deal with a G2 size camera. I think even the X100 is a bit too small.
Sony has been completely dedicated to the a7 line that they may let the RX1 wither without a successor as they have the a99, VG900 and the flash system. This is a camera that should have been updated by now considering the slow AF and aging sensor (considering the price tag). I’d like to think Sony is about to announce successors to the a99/rx1 (as they were announced together on 09/2012) but it’s starting to look grim.
Then again, if Sony isn’t going to release an rx1 II with the curved sensor it has little reason to exist and they could possibly release an a7 without the EVF for ultimate compactness and sell it as a kit with the 35mm 2.8.
Hopefully Sony will take 2016 off from updating the a7 bodies to focus on their other camera offerings which have been neglected.
This rumor seems odd to me.
The RX1 made sense because it was unique in the market. In the meantime one can get a more versatile package with any A7-series + 2/35 Loxia or 2.8/35 Zony.
The next generation RX1 should bring something new to the table. If not people will just go with the A7RII or wait for a rangefinder-style A5.
I’m surprised that Sony is not going for the obvious low-hanging-fruit: repackage the original A7 inside an A6000-style body and sell it for $999.
+1 to the a6000 style A7. Although an APS-C with fine controls and dials and A6000 form factor might be more appealing to those already owning an A7 series. Call it some sort of more pro/enthusiast oriented A6000
The A7 doesn’t natively handle aperture rings while the RX1 can. Why would I be interested in the former?
RX1 with 24 mm f2 lens… or a series of 3 to 5 RX1 cameras with 18-85mm lenses … Come on Sony, be creative… 😀 I’d rather have that than more megapixels.
5 RX1 cameras. 3-3.5k each. Great!
Just being creative… U dont need to buy em all, I could live with a 21mm and a 50mm, it could cover 85% of my needs… Not a cheap solution though, you got that right…
Cool guess. I’d rather have the S sensor in there, but that’s just me.
S sensor with its slow AF?
You’ve obviously never shot with an a7s. Trust me AF is not a problem with that camera.
Sorry, Dimitry, the A7S AF is not slow. In low light it beats the A7Rii.
I want an RX2 with a F2/50mm lens. The RX1(R) is so good it doesn’t need an upgrade anyway.
It needs better AF, IBIS would be nice, and a much, much improved video output is needed.
Nothing i would care about but why not? I would even be fine with a small 50mm MF Loxia on an RX1 body.
No! 21mm!
SR3, does this mean this was a new source? If this is the case, then this could just be an informed guess by someone who might or might not be in the know…
SR3 is only 50-50 so equally well it could be 42MP EVF and a pop-up sensor!
Hahahahahaha
Good one 😀
I’d prefer a 28mm lens like the Leica Q…
Buy the Ricoh GR wide converter and stop down.
then should buy Leica.
The next RX1 will be the camera of my dreams if it really comes!
?????? I need it right now!!!
Oh yes, but no mode dial please. Just a dedicated shutter wheel
Personally, I would love a rx1s model with the 12mpx sensor from the a7sii.
I would be happy if they would get rid of the pop up flash – retaining the hot shoe – and give the LCD screen a little tilt capability so that I could hold the camera above my head or below my waist. Faster low light focus would also be nice. One feature that would be possible in a pop up EVF that would be great, too, would be the ability to switch it to a 70 mm frame. With a 42mp sensor, that would give you a reasonable focal length of 21mp without even having to include a zoom lens. Hell, if they’d boost the sensor to 60+ mp with the 35 mm lens, thus giving me 30mp at 70mm and 15mp at 140mm, I’d probably just get rid of my Nikon D810 altogether – or maybe keep it with one 20mm lens or so.
Pretty cool if the RX series were the same as the 7 but more compact, minus the bells and whistles the 7s have.
Pop-up is a cool concept, in practice it slows down the operation and awkward.
How did you learn this about mp and heat output? If so, why then CIPA shots rating for A7S, A7, A7R are very similar?
And what space savings do you get from a popup EVF? A little bit more real estate on the camera back to place buttons? I think it largely saves camera depth and only if it is also pull-out (towards the user) on top of pop-up.
Seen that pop-up EVF, nice for a small compact like the RX100, but I’d prefer the attachment for smth like the RX1. And make that a wider well-corrected lens, then we can crop to 35 and even 50.
Bring it on!
My deep condolences.
I’m an (unhappy) Lightroom 6.1 user.
Thanks. I think I’m going to need a few days, more likely months, to get over this import dialog.
Be still my beating heart! Seriously, please share all RX2 rumours, no matter how lame. I’m praying for the same lens with upgraded sensor and autofocus. Built in evf would just be icing on top.
There won’t be two versions… especially if they end up using the same sensor as the A7r2…. One version RX2… would be fantastic with that wonderful Zeiss 35mm permanently attached…
I agree this would be a good thing….
I don’t buy it, this was a one off halo camera that wasn’t destined for a MKII – like the VG900 and the A99. They set out to build the smallest FF camera in the world, check.
Though I would like to see one in a slightly larger body with a nice integrated EVF and all the A7rII tech including the PADF, it just doesn’t seem likely with such a large push behind the various A7’s. Plus an integrated EVF and new sensor would likely push the price into the $4000 range.
It might have been a halo product, but it also tested the market for compact, non-DSLR FF cameras.
I have the Panasonic GM5… the Panasonic GM5 is a friend of mine… and the fixed EVF on the Panasonic GM5 is no where near the quality of the popup on the RX100m4 ….
If it had a foveon curved sensor with a .95 35mm on it and I guess back-lit with 50MP and composite shot mode for 150MP files then maybe.
But if not weather sealed, no buy
Don’t worry- whopping price increases are followed by whopping Sony price depreciation.
I just want this with an interchangeable lens and the A7s sensor.
Basically an A5s without the viewfinder. But with IBIS would be fantastic.
That would be the most powerful low light camera in your coat pocket.
Hoping hoping….
Pre- annoncement of another high price camera. The sad story continues. Sony forgot us with normal income. All New products so f* expensive. I bet in this camera will cost more than 3000 Euros. I do not want to read any Sony product news anymore. It is just frustrating.
finally some RX2 rumors, thanks Andrea!
rx1r is a perfection. I love shooting with it. if only they could build in image optical stabilization in a new version.
faster/better low light focus, built in view finder and a flip screen with touch and it would be perfect.
The Ricoh GR is already 28mm equivalent. Why the wide converter?
To go with the new RX1 I presume.
The wide conerter makes the GR an 21mm equivalent.
Sure it does, but Vlad’s advice was to use the converter on the RX1, making it a 28mm camera, and thus satisfying Anadrol88’s preference for the 28mm FOV.
Argggh… I thought, he suggested a Ricoh GR with wide converter. I had never expected someone would advice to use the GR converter on the RX1. LOL
Eh? Did you read the comment I was replying to?
I did, why? He’s talking about the Ricoh GR’s wide converter, not the camera itself. Presumably to use on an RX1 and get that 28mm FOV.
What are you talking about? You can’t use a Ricoh GR wide converter on an RX1. I’d give up now if I was you, you’re digging yourself an even bigger hole.
Err, you’re being rough for nothing. Anyway, you’re wrong: http://bmupix.com/reviews/2013/7/16/shooting-wide-the-sony-rx1-at-26mm
As a regular on here I’m always prepared to take it on the chin. I’m very surprised that even works.
I still don’t think that’s what the comment I replied to meant though. 😉
Integrate the EVF on the left like the Q, not pop up
That’ll take up more space though.
Then it will cost 3500 EUR/USD. I see no reason to buy it instead of a Q, which is a far better camera. I know, RX2 isn’t out yet, it’s just a wild guess.
At any price higher than $2500, I don’t see how it can compete with the Q on user experience. At a similar price range, the intended audience won’t likely chose more megapixels over UX either. And I bet the majority of this audience wants a great EVF. So the current design + the 42mp sensor strategy seems wrong.
Interesting to see where they go.
No, 75mm! 🙂
No, 28mm!
This camera paved the way for the A7 lineup. But that’s here now and more versatile, less expensive and only a tad larger.
So make the RX1 successor a medium format model!
Take the Pentax 645Z sensor, curve it, and ask Zeiss to design a nice 45mm f/2.8 lens for it. One can dream (yes, that would be expensive).
I’d like a 50mm lens, weather sealing and a built in EVF (not pop-up). That would be my ideal camera.
Mewants curved sensor and a smaller lens!
Who cares about megapixels on a compact street camera…
Replace the RX1 lens with an M-Mount (or E) and give it a tilt screen and I’m all theirs.
A5S please! NEX5N form factor. A7S sensor. No IBIS. No EVF. Drool…
Price: 1000 EUR/USD
+1
Here you go 😀
Here we go. 😀
+1
Wouldn’t mind an A6 either.
Sounds like you should look for one of these instead for 1/8th the price these days iirc
When phones will reach A7S sensitivity and A6000 IQ plus RAW option, I will use them. No joke. I’m serious.
I’v got one of those (808 pureviews) i liked it better than my Nex3N, shame I broke it 🙁
Put in a Smart Zoom 35-60 or 70 , fast Phase detect AF , Leaf Shutter then before . Or 3 Models like the the Sigma 35 , 50,70 .
3 models like Sigma? Errm…. calculating….. Taking into account that all recent Sony iterations bumped up in price, I would expect 3500 USD/EUR. Makes 10,500 USD/EUR for the set. OK, lets say 9,999.95 USD/EUR as a set. Are you serious?
Not everybody needs all three:)) but a rx2 35 mm 2.0, and a Zoom lense for People WHO Want a Tele also Why Not. And Leaf shutter Option for Fill in Flash.
I was kidding. But seriously, I think 3 models will be the least likely scenario.
I think that would actually be possible via Crowdfunding. But I’m not so sure if Sony would be that thrilled about the idea.
It would reveal a lot of sales data to their competitors.
For all those saying this camera has no purpose now that the A7xx lineup is established, it’s worth noting that none of the native e-mount or adapted 35mm options comes close to the character of the RX1’s 35mm, and for me, f2 is the perfect compromise for size, quality, but still allowing decent background defocus. The RX1 35mm version’s great sharpness, but more importantly, superb bokeh and character seems to be highly valued enough that second hand versions generally still sell for close to full retail price. This particular lens, and the full-frame carry at all times pocketability, just isn’t possible on the A7 series. I can only hope this market is big enough to justify a follow up. I would happily pay similar cost to an A7xx body and trade versatility just to have that lens with A7RII autofocus speed and eye focus features. Also, I prefer to shoot prinmes, find that 35mm suits most of my shooting and I’d rather have alternate lenses on a separate body anyway than be swopping all the time.
Sadly I do think that given the multiple 35mm options for e-mount, it’s commercially unlikely that Sony intend to release an RX2. Anyone got info on past and current RX1/R sale volumes and whether it’s likely to be a realistic candidate for an upgrade?
I share your excitement. Unfortunately, I couldn’t afford one (or better:couldn’t justify a 3k expense), when it came out. But why not the Q? Do you think the Zeiss is better than the Summilux? Otherwise I see no market for an RX2, even if the price stays at 3k, what I doubt.
Leica Q’s 28mm is just too wide for me as an all purpose lens. And I do think the RX1 lens renders better, although that is just my taste.
Also >>US$4,000. Too rich for my blood.
Thats what I say, the RX2 will be not far from that. My guess is 3200-3500 USD/EUR.
I would say, 3500+ if the camera has a “revolutionary” feature (curved sensor), probably more around 3000 if it hasn’t and if the sensor Sony will use already exists in a camera. They just can’t go too high because of the competition now, with their own A7 line making the RX1 even more of a niche product.
Interesting.
The 28mm also doesn’t provide as much DoF control in many situations. I’d actually prefer to see a 40mm f1.7 (but I’ll settle for a 35mm f2.0)
I am a 35mm guy since film days. Since 2 years I use a Ricoh GR, which is 28mm. To be honest, would call teh difference between 50 and 35 significant, but not between 35 and 28. They do not feel the same, but I enjoy the 28mm as much as the 35mm (same shooting situation).
Comparatively huge package indeed, that’s why I’m saying the Sonnar has no peer. Also, technically the Sigma is certainly an extremely good lens, but the bokeh and rendering style in general are different (I own it).
Why restrict this camera to street use? The size and weight is great for landscape shooters who can live with 35mm. And for a given scene a 24MP image obtained from a 42MP image will ALWAYS look better (less noise and digital artifacts, more natural look) than a native 24MP image.
And pleaaaase Sony, no more orange ring! ROLLEYES
But I love that orange ring! I actually wish Zeiss would make their blue gasket the same orange colour.
i love the orange ring too…but also the blue gasket!
