  1. I haven’t seen a half case for the a7/a7r that has a thin base. These things raise the camera up too much and adds significantly to the weight of little cameras like these too.

        1. maybe they will come out with one . The camera is still new. I had one with a thinner base with my nex-f3 but it did not have the battery door. It looks like th case with batteries door is alway thick at the bottom.

          1. Yeah the battery door is pretty important for the A7R… but still, I have to take the half case off my Fuji GF670W every 10 shots or so when I’m replacing the roll 🙂

  2. Got no idea what theses leather (half) cases are good for… (for an A7 or a A99 or a D4 or 1Dx or a 1200D or what ever)

    No improvement on grip…

No protection of sensible parts of the camera…

During the fifties, sixties and seventies cams were delivered with those full or half cases made of (artificial) leather – but can someone remember a single professional photographer using them? Only tourists had their cams covered in such ugly cases and “transporting” case and cam in front of their fat bellies…

    1. I always use a half case on mirror less cameras but never on a dslr and while they don’t offer full body protection they do offer some kind of protection and my cameras always look brand new when it is time to sell so I can upgrade plus they look good to me. You can drop your camera and if it lands on the side with the case it will save your camera so I guess it a 50/50 chance but normally when a camera falls it land on the corners were the half case would be.

      1. First you’ll have to be able to hold the camera before you can drop it. Where will your 3 fingers now go next to lens to hold the grip? There’s a good reason why they’re shown without the lens on there.

        1. I guess it depends on the kind of hands you have. I have never had a problem with holding it. I currently have the gariz case for my A7 and it works fine with native and all my MF lenses.

    2. Actually the gariz cases I have significantly improves grip and protects the bottom of my cameras on tripods. I have one for both the A7, NEX-7 and used to use them with the NEX-6 and X-E1. In every case the improvement is significant.

  3. …They put a half frame lens on the a7(R?), can I trust them with making a reliable case for the camera?
    ———
Correction: It’s seen in the eBay link that it’s the R-less a7.

  4. The Gariz cases restrict movement of the rear LCD, a design defect I noticed with my NEX 7 Gariz case. If you look closely, you can see the articulation is blocked if you try and pull the screen out from the top. Just a heads up.

    1. My Gariz case is not blocked there is a fingernail cutout at bottom edge of case for my A7r Opening it from the bottom is the same as from the top once you adjust

  5. I am aware that everything is a question of personal taste.

But to be honest – the A7 is no beauty, so why spoiling it much more with these ugly and overpriced pieces of leather?

    🙂

  6. I have the Gariz bra 😉 – I find it very helpful – not least of which is the well proteced base through the case – I can quite happily put the camera down on rough surfaces without any worries as such a strong base… The minimal extra weight is not really a problem when all of its so light…
No issues with the screen as there is a cut out for pulling it out from bottom.
    Quality is very high
