  1. This was perfectly to be expected as the 1499 euros price tag was given by Sony. It drops usually, within a couple of weeks as more resellers jump in.

    1. Strange: I agree, I can’t see a link to buy a lens, but I pre-ordered the A7 body only and at checkout it offered the suggestion of adding the 35mm to my order (which I didn’t do)

    1. .. the 55mm price in jap is 650€ at map camera.
.. the a7 price in jap is 1050€ at map camera.

so there is room for some other discount, on lenses at least …

      1. just remember, you can’t change the language when you buy here in japan. not unless you buy the “overseas model” which is almost the same price in $.

          1. Hmmm, all Sony cameras I’ve checked (compacts, NEX, SLT) were only in Japanese. There were only overpriced multilingual options. Anyway, it is something to consider.

          2. that’s odd… but please do update us when you have info if the a7 is multilingual. cheers!

    1. BAD???? the early test says results with 35mm and 55mm FE are nice, if few not Sony lenses fails on the camera due to their film oriented design and lack of telecentricity .. just use other lenses and let the zeiss biogons for the film.

      Get a voigtlander 35mm f1.2 instead and you’ll have a nice performer

      1. 99% of the shots I have seen so far are shockingly bad looking at the Ron Scheffler shots taken with multiple adapted lenses the results are probably even worse

          1. No trolling. Im using my eyes here. So far there hasnt been a batch of samples that have not been bad. Ive downloaded them all. And shots with the native 35 and 55 still look very VERY bad. Anyone who says they look good dont know what a sharp photo on a ff sensor looks like. The a7 fails tremendously against say the output of the 5dmk3 and the a7r doesnt hold a candle to the d800. Look up both those cameras reviews, youll see. Heck the output from the d7100 looks much much better than the a7…even with the kit lens

          2. Please don’t waste your money on any of Sony’s 4 different format cameras and lenses. Just go with Canon or Nikon. The size and performance differences just aren’t there. In fact, they never will be. Forget Sony. They’re not a dedicated (real) camera manufacturer anyway. Troll flame ignite!

          1. Right ! I found that these pictures of Haiti were excellent but I am not a pro. Let’s not kill the A7/A7r before it is released with production firmware.

  2. i wanted the 36mp sensor tbh, but for that low price on amazon.fr i’ll just take it. i get (in my opinion) a better sensor than on my 5DM3, 24mp is 2mp more than i have now. add to that some nice focusing system and maybe about half a stop iso performance. when i sell my 5dm3 it won’t hurt my wallet as much, plus i can buy more lenses or accessories. yay 🙂

if anyone of you guys read this, i’m all new to sony cams. i’d like to do portrait studio shoots with flashes.
    – which ones go with the sony?
    – does sony do some themselves?
    – i have a yongnuo 568, will it still work in manual at least? also, anything good from yongnuo that i could take?

    thanks guys

    1. Dudeook at the photos from the reviews so far, your 5dmk3 is waaaay better even if it has 2 mp less. More mp dont get you sharper photos, good sensor to lens relationship does.

  3. This seems as a perfect E-mount cam to use CaNikon lenses on… I’d definitely go for it if I had a CaNikon cam. The price is even way lower than 6D/D610! It’s something that can really boost sales. Non-optimal output from pre-historic lenses… So what? this camera apparently isn’t targeted at that group – A7r is.

    Great job on this Sony.

        1. Well if you want the best performance AF and other useful perks I would stick with Nikon lol. I have not seen even one sample from the A7r that competes with the D800.

I will wait and see what the real tests with full production models deliver but so far not so good

        2. Ah the usual silkers. Never mind what they say Emir.
I recommend you should buy this thing to use other brand lenses, particularly those with lots of electronics in them. Canon and Nikon fit the bill.
Buy the camera now, before it’s been tested and teething bugs squashed. Sony’s quality is amazing enough.
These are great ideas, go for it.

  4. Thanks a lot! Cancelled my pre-order at Sony.fr, gained 137 euros and an earlier delivery in the process. Have a drink on me with the referral money. 🙂

    1. normally i don´t like the waiting game until something “better” might come out – on the other hand, I am not in a hurry for a new camera – so, I´ll wait and see what Nikon is up to

16mp FF sounds better to me than 24/36mp files

  5. This price is almost the exact same price as people in the US will pay for the body only if you include US sales tax (California) at 8%. Nice!

  6. Noooooo! I just read this page because I need to change language on my brand….new…. A7 with standard kit. I think I am gonna cry!
    Is it really true!?
It was cheaper of course and with tax free (5%) I got it down to 151 000 yen. But who’s the loser now? Maaaaan!

    1. I live in Japan and went to Yodobashi and they confirmed its not possible to change language of the camera. I wonder if it would be possible to buy a Japanese model A7/A7R and update it with English Firmware? Maybe to early to say…

      1. There is no firmware available now atleast. Perhaps it will be possible in the end. I also just mistakenly formatted my card and lost most my vacation pics from Japan. The whole camera thing just gives med anxiety now.
