Usually you don’t see how a lens is made “inside”. But at CP+ Tamron is showing the new SP 15-30mm lens cut in half. There is also a full review at Photoreview:

Outdoor photographers will welcome the moisture-resistant construction of this lens as well as the fluorine coating on the front element that repels water and dirt and makes it easy to keep clean. Architectural photographers will find relatively low distortion produced by this lens valuable for shooting exteriors and interiors.
In summary: Photographers looking for a fast, wide-angle zoom lens will find this lens represents excellent value for money.

The A-mount lens can be ordered at BHphoto (Click here) and at Adorama (Click here).

  1. Someone wrote in the comments recently that focus motors and OSS don’t take up much space. This image shows that they do make up most of the lens.

  2. Quote from review:

“Sony doesn’t offer a comparable lens for its ‘full frame’ A-mount cameras.”

What? If reviewers can’t speak intelligently about Sony A-Mount (or E) then they shouldn’t speak at all. The ZA and FE Sony 16-35mm lenses are “comparable”.

BECAUSE… just before that quote, the reviewer compares it to the Canon 16-35/2.8 L.

“…its zoom range is wider than the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, which is currently selling for roughly $300 more and about $900 cheaper than Nikon’s AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, which is slightly wider. (Sony doesn’t offer a comparable lens for its ‘full frame’ A-mount cameras.)”

    What a DOPE.

    1. The Sony’s aren’t comparable because they allow normal front mount screw in filters… This new Tammy doesn’t. No comparison.

  3. No VC on Sony mount… 🙁
Does anybody know, if VC is just disabled by software only and all the “flippy” parts are still inside the lens, or if if this VC parts are enterly removed?
Has anybody access to the same existing VC-Tamron-Lens in Sony-mount and Canikon-mount and is able to compare the weight!

  4. Sony should have done it too instead of F/4.0 one unless they think photographers only take pics under summer light? At least it would worth the 1400$ they request

  5. from the review ” At an RRP of AU$1599, its zoom range is wider than the Canon EF
16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, which is currently selling for roughly $300 more
    and about $900 cheaper than Nikon’s AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, which
is slightly wider. (Sony doesn’t offer a comparable lens for its ‘full
    frame’ A-mount cameras.)”
    what a moron. Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 ZA SSM.

    1. And the most important thing (for me at least) is that you can still use ND filter kits on the 16-35 unlike the 15-30 which is only 1mm wider and 5mm shorter.

      1. you can use filters on both without issues. just requires imagination or spending loads of speciality kits. so it’s really a non issue. I’ve already designed a solution to put a filter on the 15-30mm.
but yea. on a thousand dollar lens you could at least expect a filter thread. it’s not like it’s going to increase the manufacturing costs -.-”

anyway, still waiting for a serious review. this pseudo “review” is just a piece of advertising by someone that doesn’t have a clue about what he’s writing about.
I’m specially interested on a side by side review with a nikon 14-24mm. Moreover how it behaves with a sony A7 with an adapter.
