Sony Australia created that amazing video to explain why “Bigger is not necessarily better”. A video made to support the new mirrorless camera philosophy. Really a great work guys! I hope Sony Japan will support you in making even more videos like that! Thanks!!!

mmhh, macro freak.
No amount of education or gear would help them!
Try to shoot a telephoto with mirrorless camera 🙂 last one – filmmaker with all of this stuff, maybe looks like freak, but.. this is really serious business now 🙂
Funny, but not so smart 😉
I’ve used telephotos on the NEX and they work quite well. As for the DSLR in the cage with all the stuff. If you can get the same thing done in a lighter, more easily holdable package, I think people will move over to that platform. On the other hand, it all comes down to what people like to use. I say give people different choices – in the end, everyone wins.
S**t, I look like all of them. Great video anyway.
exactly my thoughts 😀
Hehe, seen people doing exactly the same with mirrorless – only flashes were usually smaller, and they got loads of issues with balancing their tiny cameras with large lenses.
Great video!
to be honest, nothing annoys me more than to see people with flashy cameras (be it compact, mirrorless or DSLR) and use the flash for every single picture (pun unintended)…
Oh I thought I was being a prick by not liking those kind of people. I guess I’m not alone.
It’s about all the DSLR owners who own it because it is cool, not because they need it and have therefore no clue how to use their supercool camera in the right way.
So a mirrorles camera (in example: NEX) would be a better choice for them.
That is what the spot is all about.
For them a large sensor compact would be MUCH better choice, simply because there’s sooo much less struggle with with (simple controls, better lens then a kit one, no issues with dust on sensor, no issues with fingerprints on sensor, no issues with contacts sticking out of camera in random spots, usually more resistant and reliable) and at the same time it can be much more portable (say: RX100).
Mirrorless are same crap as dSLRs for people like that, only smaller.
But only few aware people are interested in large sensor compacts simply because the old myths still float. Wish someone would try to break these, and actually make people aware that cameras like G1x or RX100 are amazingly capable often beating some of mirrorless by quite a margin.
Don’t believe too much in the adverts.
Strange, since Sony also makes DSLRs!
But all their profit is in NEX
what profit lol
Love it
Hmm, I didn’t get it actually. The message isn’t at all clear, it isn’t really very funny is it, and it takes cheap shots at people who (horror of horrors) might not be as “clever” as proper photographers – or something. Is it? Actually, what the hell is it saying? Only pros should buy a DSLR? Noone should buy one? Noone should be interested in cameras? Only real photographers that read geeky forums should? We should make fun of people who know less than us to make ourselves feel better about ourselves? What a mess.
don’t take it too serious, its just funny 🙂
Hrmhm. I felt the same about the spot. Some of them are rather sad, but I didn’t get the message… maybe, because of me being a scientist: I’m accustomed to people like these all the day (including the one in the mirror, probably 😉
Some “photographers” can t take great photos but just buy the biggest or the most expensive gear to show that they are pros. Do u really feel comfortable with these people? How about someone taking photos of you while you re having a dinner in the restaurant? I think the idea is clear: you don t need the pro gear to be a good photographer.
Hahahaha, funny…
Ha! Such insight! I loved that they included some older and more obscure stuff, like the A700 and Minolta 80-200/2.8 HS APO G.
Oh dammit, I’m the lens spotter, aren’t I?
Now that is a funny answer 🙂
They have also featured the Minolta 300 2.8 SSM and something that looks like a taped A390.
Funny in the sense, that huge cameras may be dinosaurs and the people who carry them seem out of place many times.
However, they do not offer any alternative in the video. They don’t show the convenience of not having to use a VF on SLT or the portability of NEX or the svelte RX-100. They don’t show how Sony has options for everyone. The right camera for the moment.
Bad commercial. No idea what’s their message besides photographer are strange. If you didn’t tell me it is a SONY NEX commercial I would have mistake it for a Samsung Galaxy S next-big-thing ad.
The video is made with Australian humour we take the piss out (make fun off ) everything down here including ourselves, please dont take offence as that is not the intended use. I am one of five Australian Sony Ambassadors for the Alpha system and whilst participating in Sony Masterclass teaching beginners,Intermediate and Advanced participants, not one had taken offence to the vid. Please view in the light hearted way that it was meant to be received………and laugh…..cheers
