Rob Skoetch from ThePictureDesk (Click here) has been the first person to post some image samples taken with the new Sony NEX-7 and the new 50mm f/1.8 OSS lens! Those are not full size pictures but he said he will soon add them on Flickr (Click here) where you can already find A77, A65 and NEX-5n full size image samples.
The NEX-7 is probably the most requested and preordered of all new Sony cameras. It will be start shipping from early November. This is a short list of stores I found where you can preorder the camera to be the first on list (otherwise your risk to get the camera in 2012 only):
Body only: Sonystore US, Amazon US, Adorama, Sonystore Canada and in Europe at Jessops and Computeruniverse.
With 18-55mm kit lens: Sonystore US, Amazon US, Adorama, Sonystore Canada and in Europe at Jessops.
I have seen that the most requested lens to put on your NEX-7 is the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 which you can preorder here: Sonystore US, Amazon US, Adorama, Sonystore Canada.
The 50mm f/1.8 can be preordered: Sonystore US, Adorama.
As you see there is no preorder option I found in Europe (a part of the NEX-7 at Jessops and Computerunivers). Feel free to comment this post with links to shops accepting preorders! This will help other SAR reader to get thei NEX-7 and lenses as soon as possible!

Lens is very overpriced. Pics look good but it’s very easy to make a good 50mm f1.8, all the other makers’ are all quite good also.
Because of the ho-hum lens lineup, the lustre of the Nex system is starting to fade…
You do realise “other makers'” 50mm primes don’t have optical stabilisation, right?
An NEX-5N / 50mm f1.8 OSS combo will be a low light monster.
Saw the pic. frankly…and other average lens…nothing stellar. overpriced. who dare OSS?
Say what?
He doesn’t realize that those E-mount lenses uses some sort SSM AF..slower compared to A-mount only because of CDAF used on NEX-series cameras, but still Silent…
Overpriced? nah, you get what you pay for [OSS, SSM, metal build]
The sad part is that Sony charges you a bit more because those lenses are made to work with a short registration distance.
A quick look and one can see this is a 50mm lens is looking much longer than any other 50mm f1.8/f2 lens. Just like the 24mm Zeiss is longer than normal. They simply extend the length, just as if putting a Maxxum 50mm f1.7 with Alpha adapter on NEX. Nothing special about making it “work” on short registration other than building it longer than regular 50mm’s.
With NEX short registration, this 50 should be no longer than a Leica M 50mm. It’s not even that large of an f-stop to justify the size.
With an M to NEX adapter attached, the Leica 50/1.4 Asph is almost exactly the same length and much heavier, and it doesn’t have an af motor or OSS.
+1 way overpriced!! $1000.- for that lens that is ridiculous
That’s why it’s only 300 US$/300 euro… 🙂
(you probably mixed up with the 24mm CZ, which is about 1000 US$/euro)
i was talking about this one 🙂

yeah, that $1000 price is indeed ridiculous, because it’s not true. check your facts before posting

spend $2000 and get the leica summicron 50mm would be a smart investment. leica lenses hold value, and the summicron is the sharpest lens edge to edge there is. plus a m adapter.
yeah, again, that’s the 24mm that no-one talked about. the 50mm lens written about in the article and in the comments is $299. you wrote “$1000.- for that lens that is ridiculous” without mentioning which lens you were talking about.
The cheap 50/1.8 lenses (Nikon 1.8D, Canon, Sony A-mount) are all old design with only 6 elements. They aren’t great wide open; I’ve used the Canon 50/1.8 a lot and usually avoid f1.8.
The newer Nikon 50 1.8G is $220 and it has 7 elements. The Sony E 50/1.8 has 9 elements and stabilization for $300, so not really a rip off in comparison.
That said, I expected the Sony E 50/1.8 to be smaller/shorter than the A-mount version. I mean, I can forgive the price, but come on, don’t make it longer than the DSLR version! Also, if it was 60mm (or 90mm equiv.) instead, it would be better for portrait since 75mm equivalent is a bit short for that and a bit long for a general walk-around lens.
On the other hand, the Olympus 45/1.8 is small/light, with good IQ and the 90mm equivalent FL is more suitable for portrait. But then, it is even more expensive at $400.
Still nothing on Flickr
Verkkokauppa.com in Finland accepts preorders on NEX-7:

Do we really have to wait till december to get the 24 1.8 and 50 1.8?
Admin,
recently your web site cause my working place and home pc internet explorer having “stop run script” issue that will cause hang or no responsive after click YES or NO. Can you kindly fix on it. thanks
It’s probably just you being the odd one out, my computers work fine.
maybe the explorer wants you to take a break from coming daily to SAR =D
There is a fix for that… Stop using Internet Explorer! 🙂 It is by far the worst browser on the market.
Either download Google Chrome or try out Mozilla Firefox. I use Chrome & its the best.
I also have the same script error message. This only happened recently with IE. Everything works fine with Google Chrome, however.
Twenty years ago we closed the family photographic studio when my dad passed away and I’ve been a part time professional photographer but a full time IT manager and network engineer and this website works just fine using Windows 7 and IE9 both 32 and 64 bit.
This was not always true as this site did have several coding issues that were corrected several months back.
Most enterprise network managers don’t allow Chrome and Firefox to be used because of issues around maintaining PCI-DSS and HIPPA and other security and auditing compliance requirements.
On my network I no longer allow IE – and I now have far fewer problems. My users are not doing on-line banking or entering medical data – but, based on past history, I find it hard to believe IE is more secure.
Same scripting issues with W7 and IE 8.00.7600
My designer is working on it. Sound sliek it’s an Explorer problem because all other browers are working fine.
No problem here with the latest Firefox running on OS X.
i just preordered the nex7 body only at adorama, no way i will wait until 2012 stock. only wish is that the nex7 came in a silver/metal finish. i am still on the waiting list for 50mm leica summicron for the nex7.
lol!!!
Though a bit hard to judge by those resized photos, it looks like the 50mm f/1.8 lens is a bit soft wide open.
Yes, it is very hard to judge, so don’t. Plus where does it say these photos were shot wide open?
Why is the NEX7 the most pre-ordered system ?
Maybe because (a portion of) NEX shooters are techies, who are marveled by the impressive numbers of the specs sheet.
A77 potential buyers might wait for some real testing from final product, before ordering. That’s what I’m going to do.
I think its because of the body & menu design. It is the best design on any NEX. And… it just looks sexy. The only problem is that the high ISO performance is unknown as of now. People are skeptical & cautious.
If the NEX7 matches the performance of the NEX5N in high ISO, it will be the best seller. I am sure that demand will outstrip supply.
http://digitec.ch seems to accept preorders too. But I think they deliver just to Switzerland and Lichtenstein…

hi admin,
have a look at: http://geizhals.at/deutschland/675234
geizhals is generally a good place to check for new products and vendors, at least for me 😉
as geizhals shows, you can preorder the nex-7 here:

as i’m in vienna right now, i saw a special pre-order offer at “foto sobotka” (http://www.sobotka.at/). if you preorder the a77 till the end of september, you get an extra battery for free (1399€ body only, 2049€ w/ 16-50)
however, i’ll wait for more reviews and a personal hands on with both, the nex-7 and a77…no pressure.
I for one have been waiting for the NEX-7 because I am tired of carrying around a big heavy DSLR, and its big heavy lenses.
UK version: http://www.skinflint.co.uk
sorry pressed wrong reply button..this was meant for el-immigrNTa
Uk pre-order £1050 http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/?m=13245
My explorer also doesn’t like this site.
NEX 7
have a look at:

and much more….
Hmmm on the other nex cameras, the lenses looks huge, this one, looks like the same size proportions as the stock lens does on the EP-1.
Hmm..I’m only interested in how NEX 7 will perform in low light situation (plus I like the manual control big time)..I know already its better than A77..but is it going to be better than NEX-5N??..let’s wait and see..

I’m only interested in how the NEX-7 will perform in good light, at base ISO, at its very highest image quality.
Any low light, high ISO results are a bonus so far as I am concerned.

Why there are no E-mount 30-35 mm prime lens?
Check SLR Magic’s website. They have one or 2 native e mount lenses.
that are c-mount mold to emount. not really a native lens for NEX.
Still they are “E-mount 30-35 mm prime lens” and they don’t need an adapter. The CrapNokton 50mm/f0.95 is another one of these cctv converted lenses.
There is the E30 3.5 macro
I will rather use contax lens with NEX. they got a big rather and the price is a lot cheaper.
Andrea, any update on the mirrorless A-Mount that was mentioned on previous rumor?
Yes soon 😉
:O :O :O
I have a nice Minolta 50mm f1.7 waiting for that kind of body.. How nice if it would be magnesium alloy too.. and all the stuff we really like.. ^^ Like super high iso performance (18mpix ff sensor dream!!)
Thanks for the feedback Andrea. Hope the mirrorless A-Mount will have big grip, EVF, hotshoe and light weight.
how can a mirrorless camera focus well with lens made for af phase sensor without a mirror?
50mm does only make sense for a FF camera. For potraits use is should’ve been at least 60mm for the crop sensored NEX! It also seems to be bigger than most 50mm APS-C lenses from CaNikon. Why that? Btw…for an 1.8 portrait lens coupled with great NEX sensor ISO performance OISS is not needed at all.
indeed it would have been better for Sony to release a 35mm f1.8 (circa 50mm equivalent for NEXes). That’s pretty much the lens you need 90% of the times on that body.
I would argue that the 24 would be on the body most of the time. Sony is probably going with street shooter perspective.
What the heck ? Making such small camera with APS/C sensors and such bulky and overpriced ? Where is the SAM 35mm f1.8 with E mount ? 50mm is to long for everyday use and too short for portrait 🙁
What’s all the hype about the 50/1.8? Go to any local flea market, buy an M42 50/1.7 or even 50/1.4 for 5-10 Euros and order the adapter from Ebay. Learn to focus manually and you’ll be all set. Perfect picture quality, 50mm lenses have been already excellent for 50 years.
You are right.. But nowaday’s photographers need to be stabilyzed all the way around 😀
I personally have half a dozen manual focus 50mm lenses from f1.2 to f1.7. Would still buy an OSS, SSM autofocus E mount 50mm f1.8. I cant take good enough portraits with my 2 year old kit without autofocus and OSS.
Practice.
I think you should really try out the new peaking function. I have no problem nailing focus of a moving object at 1.4 or even 1.2, providing good enough contrast. It’s more of anticipating the movement.
Ya, as if i havent. Try getting photos of a 2 yr old in a playground with a 1.4. More difficult than sports photography in my opinion.
Is it possible that Samsung might use the 24.3MP sensor in one of the latest mirrorless bodies? Perhaps, that is part of the agreement?
The 50mm maybe be too short for portraits, but who has a prime lens mountable to NEX between 50mm and 70mm?
I hope that the focal length gap between 55-60mm for portraits will be filled be the next years G standard zoom lens for NEX.
Anyone know about the auto-focus speed of NEX-5N or NEX-7?
How close to phase detect auto focus speed? Or still far behind?
a lady dressed in a ballet costume sitting on a park bench ?
the sentence i just typed looks better than the actual pictures – how much of a doofus do you have to be to get sony to let you test their cameras ?
I’m a film cameraman and always use manual focus and peaking… I never thought about moving this technology across, but now it has I’m surprised it hasn’t been used before. Another reason I can hardly wait until I get an NEX7 in my grubby hands.
Hello, I just wanted to take a minute to tell you that you have a great site! Keep up the good work.
