First A7rII user reviews on Amazon/BHphoto. Live streaming event from Adorama and Rooftop meeting from FocusCamera.

Unboxing The Sony Alpha 7Rii, RX100-4, RX10-ii by Gary Fong.

You can now read plenty of A7rII owner reviews at Amazon (Click here scroll down) and BHphoto (Click here). Many readers don’t like the quick overheating of the camera. But I guess you have to live with that if you want to shoot long 4K videos. If that’s an issue for you better get the A7s with external recorder. That said all reviewers really do like the camera!

There is also an upcoming new double A7rII US event:
1) Adorama on August 19th: Transitioning from DSLR to Sony Mirrorless Cameras
http://www.adorama.com/alc/browse/pages/seminar-transitioning-dslr-sony-mirrorless-cameras

2) Focus Camera on August 25th: http://www.focuscamera.com/sony-portrait-photography-roof-top-event.html/?___store=default

New A7rII tests:
Sony Alpha A7r II review-in-progress (CameraLabs).
Anyone else getting a lot of chroma noise/ noise on a7rii? (SonyAlphaForum).
A7RII with dust spot or oil spot (SonyAlphaForum).
Long Exposure Examples at ISO 100, Including Raw Conversion and RawDigger Exposure Info (Diglloyd).
Sony’s A7RII (formerly Leica it or not) by DearSusans.
Battery Life in the Field (Diglloyd).

James sent me this:

Really Right Stuff just added A7RII baseplate and ‘L’ plate for preorder.  New feature according to sales person is they have managed to allow for FULL LCD ARTICULATION with the new A7RII baseplate. Also this is a full width plate that surrounds the battery door (with access for battery)….  IMO this is much more comfortable to shoot handheld with the baseplate attached vs. the shorter plates that don’t surround the battery door…
I have the original RRS baseplate for the A7R and it is by far the most solid and best finished plate I’ve seen for the A7R..  It’s more expensive than other brands but worth it for the more solid and robust design and superb finish.  I have one on preorder for my A7RII

A7rII preorder list:
In USA: at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama, SonyStore US, FocusCamera, Uniquephoto.
In Europe at Sony DE, UK, FR, IT, ES, NL, BE, CH, AT, SE, FI, NO, PT. Wex UK.
In Asia at Digitalrev, CameraPro.

    1. More complaints about fly-wire focus from a professional. No indication Sony ever listens.

Another great, almost there camera from Sony.

  1. You know I just am not to sure about Mr. Fong. Aside from scaring me by shuffling that RX100 around, he then states they all have nee BSI sensors. As if they are all the same type, which they are not.

    1. Gary Fong is sponsored and paid by Sony exclusively. Most of his so called “review” is nothing more than a commercial promoting Sony product. You simply can’t take it seriously since he will always be bias. And of course, there is Steve Huff, who love everything he reviewed and probably has more cameras than photos he shot. LoL

      1. Where have you read that Gary Fong is sponsored and paid by Sony exclusively? He has stated many times that he is not.

        1. I saw in one of his videos he was invited by Sony to promote their products during which he claimed alpha cameras’ face recognition af is so amazing and every professionals should ditch dslrs and buy a Sony. I hope hes getting paid for doing this otherwise I’m afraid hes just crazy.

      2. Well, he isn’t paid in a work for hire sense, beyond that its sketchy. But unlike Tony Northrup et al, he does know how to run the kit and he is a competent professional photographer.

    2. They do really, its just the A7Rll sensor isn’t stacked, the stacked 20.1MP 35mm sensor is on “one of many” A7Sll prototypes, and may find its way the final version.

      1. The stacked sensors in the new rx100 & rx10 are much much more capable from a speed standpoint. They have had BSI sensors since the rx100 m2. They are quite different from the sensor in the a7rii from what I have read.

    3. Maybe he will sell plastic tables for 400 bugs after that video:
“you need a place to put all your cameras. this table is exactly made for and is better than any camera bag.”

  2. Amazon and B&H reviews are great if you want someone who is ecstatic about their new toy or enraged about something they did not read before ordering.
    Insightful discussion, not so much.

  3. Ask em’ ask em’… why does Emount get a rooftop event and Amount is sent to the basement?

Why can’t Amount have all the new tech?
Where is the claim of continued Amount support substantiated?

Really not enjoying all these extra batts, chargers, adapters.

  4. Can anyone explain me what is the purpose of these baseplates? I’m not criticising anything, I’m just curious, as I never used anything like this and don’t really see the point, I just want to learn.

    1. For quick release tripod heads. They fit a standard size based around the original arca swiss brand. With a lever release you can have your camera locked in position securely in a second.

A baseplate with clearance for swapping batteries is preferred because you don’t have to mess with unscrewing the plate.

An L bracket lets you orient your camera in portrait while keeping your tripod head leveled correctly. if you use panning heads this is especially handy

    1. He’s going to put a gintantanourmous tarrif tax on it because it was made in Japan (read: actually somewhere in southeast asia but he didn’t check) which is more or less Mexico. He’ll also deport all grey imported models.

    Dear Clyde,
Call our tech support dept., and we’ll gladly explain why focus by wire is actually being used in mirrorless cameras, you appear to be struggling to grasp more than one issue here!

    Sincerely,
