  1. So if 4000 people order through your link…and I plan to get one of these….then thats a 1/1000 chance.
How do we get into this drawing, and how do those that do not make a purchase get into this random drawing.

    1. 4000 people order this camera at $3,198. Commission at the lowest 2% is $63.96 per camera sold. SAR will make $255,840 in commission and he gives back $400. LOL!!! This is why I never click on these links for sites like this.

  2. I usually sell between 10 and 20 cameras. If that action increases somehow the preordered cameras I may sell 30 cameras.

This makes a very good chance for you and the bad news is that Brad is wrong I will not buy a Porsche with the A7rII…pity…would like Brad to be right 🙂

    1. I am very excited and plan to preorder one.
Maybe you will not sell that many but I am confident the preorders for this camera will be better than for other cameras.
      Now hopefully you will be able to bring us A9 rumors too. (*;

      1. I don’t know what they can put in A9 to justify difference. Bigger and blacker body doesn’t seem to be enough. Sensor z-shift and tilt maybe, but that would be too clever.

        1. I totally expect a higher resolution sensor
42mp is very little for a ff bsi sensor.
Sony probably started there because it’s higher than 36mp an leaves lots of room to make incremental resolution increases in future models.
This model does have very high iso, and I expect the A9 to be geared more towards optimum image quality then towards high ISO.
Although I am excited about the a7rii, a I also very much still want a higher res camera.
If my spculation is correct then I want both this camera for higher speed and reasonably high resolution, as well as a second new camera for higher resolution.

          1. I certainly hope that Sony will introduce another A-mount model. Alpha 99II with a 30Mp bsi sensor with no low-pass filter AND no SLT.
They could then ditch the 8K video and simply allow oversampled 4K which will be ample for years to come.
This lowering of Mp would enable greater sensitivity at low light levels which will improve the AF just as the A7s has done. It will also have the good side-effect of much improved workflow in processing the smaller than 36Mp files.
30Mp should also be more than enough to neutralise moiré.
Hopefully they’ll introduce a battery with much larger capacity at the same time.
This model should probably be the last Alpha mount until the non-SLT AF has been proven to work as expected.

          2. 42 mp on FF isn’t enough to kill moire. And A7S isn’t particularly known for good AF, either.

          3. I can’t argue the technical points but it would seem that Nikon is certainly making enough money selling the D810 and it only has 36Mp. So people do not seem to worry about it?
As for the AF on A7s, it is definitely not as good as we would like but the camera has been shown to achieve focus much quicker in lower light levels than any other A7 series cam. So I’m hoping that greater light sensitivity will improve AF in a similar way.

          4. there were non-BSI sensors…
and — not evident — if pixel size is too big they might not be able to keep same OSPDAF as in A7RM2

          5. A7s doesn’t have the 399 PADF points and it does a good job compared to the other A7’s – especially in low light. I shot an event with the 70-200/4 at up to 25600, so I could keep my SS at 1/100 and the A7s had no issues quickly and accurately locking focus – see attached sample. We’ll see how this performs when comprehensive reviews start popping up instead of hastily shot snippets at demo events.

          6. IF!!! Sony produces another A mount camera it will be a clone of the higher mp A9 with an A mount stuck on.
They will not put much development into it, and it will definitely not be lower than 42mp.
Except for cosmetic/mount differrences it will just be a dressed up E mount camera…sort of like a Hasselblad.

      2. Wow!!!!! Everyone please take note – Barry is committing to a Sony camera…..!
OK, I just had to get that one in.
I hope you’ll enjoy the purchase and keep it for a long, long time.

  3. I’ll just wait for Sony to misprice it on their website for 10% of MSRP. Hopefully, Amazon will price match.

  4. If I had spend all time I hung here working instead, I would have been able to buy several A7RM2…

  5. One question about the a7rii is will it autofocus with slower long lenses and teleconverters?
A77ii works till about an f8 combination, I wonder if this can do any better . For example…an f8 lens plus 2x would be f16.
    Would this camera autofocus that?

  6. As much as I appreciate Admin’s efforts to get a discount for readers, I have to say I know of a much surer way to get up to 30% discount on the current price:
Wait till next year this time when all the competition has been revealed, the early adopters have gotten their fix [ market saturation has started ], the limitations have been widely published and the next model [ lower or higher ] is about to be introduced.

  7. Why is it that all retailers sell these cameras for full retail price in the beginning? Does Sony require a certain minimum advertised price or is the profit margin just so slim that it’s not worth it to add a discount or what?
I plan to get the A7RII plus the Distagon f1.4 and 24-240mm zoom lenses ($2600 in lenses) and some accessories like extra batteries and carry case, etc. So we’re talking about a $6000 purchase. Will any of the authorized resellers offer a discount if I ask for one or ask for a competitive/package quote? I feel wasteful and foolish to spend as much as a nice used car on electronics and just blindly paying full retail price.
In fact I can get 10% off through Sony’s store with the educator discount, but the problem is they charge sales tax for my state, and it’s nearly every bit of that 10% I just saved. I wonder if one of the other resellers who don’t charge sales tax in my state would price match the sony store 10% off…

      1. You can sign up at the sony store (same one they link to here) with a valid .edu email address for K-12 or college and as far as I’ve seen you get 10% off everything. Although as I mentioned, as far as I can see they charge sales tax – and in my state it’s 9.25% meaning I really don’t save much (less than 1%) compared to one of the other retailers at retail price with no sales tax.

    1. Supply/Demand stuff. If you can sell higher and there is demand, might as well fulfill those guys first. Then, after sales die down, you can lower the price to sell to more people. This way, you get more profit overall, and most people are satisfied. Basically, they want to sell expensive to those who are willing to buy expensive.

One reason education discounts exist, is because the customers here tend to be less wealthy. This way, you can fulfill their demand, while making sure that the rich non-educational peeps don’t reap the same benefits.

  8. The a7r II looks amazing, but it`s a little pig.
And at least in my work I need a decent standard zoom o an excellent one. The Zeiss 24-70mm??? No, thanks. So right now Sony mirrorless gear begins to reach the weight and bulky volume of an ordinary DSLR. I want the a7r be lighter and a really excellent standard zoom.

  9. Stating that the A7RII will be available to pre-order at 4pm London time today is a bit misleading. Having checked with two of the biggest camera retailers in the UK yesterday, they’ve had no information from Sony whatsoever yet. The price has only been officially announced in US$ so far.

    1. This is an official information via BHphoto. I say London time just as reference for all readers.

  10. 10 am CST today! Admin, I’ll use one of your links if you guarantee a $100 off, otherwise no deal 🙂 B&H’s affiliate rate is 4-8%, so it’s about $200 for the A7r2, you can afford it!
