  1. Cool! Will they do focal reducer from 645=>FF ?
I’m sure I’ll never buy this, but it amuses my fanboyism 😀

  2. For 645 -> N, you need another adapter. Contax made these and they are pricey, and rare, on ebay.

Sadly enough, the N lenses were not particularly incredible. I had the 17-35 and 24-85mm. I didn’t get the 85 or 50 N, the only primes worth buying (unless you needed the exotic 400mm pictured here), because I had Contax G2 kit and RTS3 kit that included with the 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.4.

I also had the 645 and the Makro-Planar lens was easily the best medium format macro lens. Better than the Zeiss for Hassy lenses because it was phenomenal at macro as well as infinity. The 80mm was great too and it was the fastest aperture AF lens for medium formar. Last but not least, the 55mm was better than the 45mm and the 35mm was way too expensive for me to own. The 140mm was also great but if you owned the 120mm MP, you didn’t really need the 140mm unless you wanted AF.

As you can tell, I pretty much grew up on Contax. The only camera I didn’t get was an RTS II.

  3. Just a reminder: The adaptor on eBay seems to be an old version adaptor. I suggest everyone to check the version with the seller before purchasing.

I’ve ordered the new version directly from Taobao as I’m living in Hong Kong. The producer said he will be shipping the adaptors next Monday(31st August).

  4. Has anyone had any experiences with the Contax G lenses and the A7Rii? I will be buying the camera in the coming weeks. I have the 28, 45 and 90 and I won’t be able to afford another lens. There was a techart adaptor on the market but the focus just didn’t work. The 28 smeared and colour shifted from what I saw. Can’t wait to try mini-lenses they are more my style than those monster chunks of glass. Thanks.

    1. By what seems to be the overall feeling so far, some difficult lenses may have the colorshift issue resolved on the A7rII as compared to the A7r, but the smear may or may not be solved. I guess that there will be an improvement, noneless, but sharpness on the edges and corners may still be an issue.

      1. The Kolarivision mod helps a lot with astigmatism. Since the a7RII has improved dramatically in terms of color cast/vignetting, a modded a7RII might be your best bet.

    2. From what I have read and seen elsewhere : the 28mm doesn’t produce good results. The 45 and 90mm are good. I have the Techart adapter (two of them in fact, with different version), but they don’t work very well. A deception for the price.

My advice is to buy the Sony 28mm F2 : it is very small and light, like a ? Contax G lens. It is the cheapest of the FE native lenses (@~ 400$) and is very sharp.

      1. Thanks, that might be better than the other suggestion of modifying the glass inside the camera. Still wondering if anyone has hands on experience and can give it a try with the A7rII

  5. I don’t think that reply was for me.

Has Kolarivision managed to change the glass on an A7rII yet? I remember one of the people from Kolarivision saying that they would need some time to see whether the conversion can be made on an A7rII as they did on A7 and A7r.

  6. This is weird : if my memory serves me well, the Contax N bodies were focusing by moving their back. So I wonder how an adapter may replace a moving back.. Or may be that was only for the digital N ?

    1. I’m afraid your memory doesn’t serve you that well 🙂 : Contax N was an autofocus mount, as was the Contax 645 mount. You are making a confusion with the Contax AX camera in Contax/Yashica mount.

  7. Any more news on that Nikon to E Mount, Auto Focus adapter? That’s what I’m waiting for. It kind of dropped off the radar after the first few pics & Videos. Maybe it will just turn out to be vapourware in the end.

  8. Canon has just patented a tilt swing adapter to work with all Canon lenses.
So I am assuming all Canon lenses will work as swing tilt with this adapter on the a7rii

    1. LOL… not *this* but similar. If anything, Canon will make it for EF-M, not FE 😉
Anyway, it’s silly to move entire camera body when we can move only sensor

  9. All I need a good fast-ish zoom lens for my a6000 with good IQ & quality control, so I can stop visiting this website and be bombarded with this crap.

  10. There are some truly great Contax N lenses, but a $720 adapter after shipping is a tough pill to swallow when the lenses have no ability to get serviced. Contax isn’t making parts for them anymore, so when your 10-year-old AF motor goes kaput, you’re stuck with an expensive aperture controller.

Sell it for $300 shipped and I’m interested. At this price its a non starter and they won’t sell many. Too bad because there’s some really great glass.

    1. Agreed! Not counting the going price of the used Contax 17-35mm. I doubted it would be much better than getting the native 16-35mm without the hassle.

  11. $680 plus $45 shipping for firmware that is not field-updatable? Are you kidding me?

Effectively – $45+ per firmware update.

I can understand the cheapo Chinese EF-E adapters (sub-$100) not being field-updatable, but at $680 you’d better have field-updatable firmware.

  12. The price is way too high. Shouldn’t be more than $300 and also include usb port for updates.
And I don’t see any usefulness for “N” adapters because many Zeiss equivalents already available in “A” mount.
