To be announced soon: collapsible Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR zoom?

Within March Nikon will announce the new Nikon 1 V3 camera. And according to a new rumor by Nikonrumors there will be a new collapsible Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR zoom too!

Nice lens, but the real question is, when will Nikon launch a more advanced larger sensor mirrorless system? Time to grow up ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Good quality collapsible zoom lenses, not only for mirrorless cameras but for DSLRs too.
A collapsible zoom in this focal lenght range is a good idea, provided this collapsible design can reduce significantly (Iยดd say more than a third) the lenght of a standard lens. All mirrorless systems should have a line of collapsible zooms covering all focal lenghts.

  2. I do not expect larger-than-1″mirror-less camera from Nikon anytime soon. It would jeopardise Nikon own sales of low to mid class DSLR what in times when camera sales are going south not the best strategy. I personally think (after owning V1 for 6 months – my first Nikon camera, btw ๐Ÿ™‚ ) that 1 system fits well between compacts and larger sensor mirror-less cameras. The size difference to APS-C is very noticeable, while the image quality in low-to-mid ISO is very good. And as long as you do not buy the latest generation the price makes it very good value.

I am curios what will nikon bring with V3 – hopefully more manual controls (V1 really is a pro P&S camera). I guess the price will be over the top at the introduction (as was the case with V1 and V2).
