Sony RX100MII and Sony RX1R specs!

.

Sony will not announce any new NEX stuff this month but they will launch two new RX cameras on June 27. Ok, not really very new:

The Sony RX1R:
It’s exactly the same camera as the current RX1 but it misses the Anti Aliasing filter. That’s why Sony will present it as the “High Reoslution” RX1 version. DOn’t knwo what the price will be. But I guess they will charge you a bit extra for removing the Filter šŸ™‚

The Sony RX100MKII:
It has an “updated” 20 megapixel sensor with Exmor R technology. The same Zeiss lens as the RX100. But there are plenty of other changes: new tilt screen, longer battery life, ISO 100, Built-in Wifi, 24p recording and Hot Shoe.

I am a bit surprised Sony skipped a possible RX10 release. I guess the APS-C compact market is a bit to full for them?

  1. The RX100mkII will probably be heavier since they added a tilt screen, so a real handgrip would have been useful šŸ™ I find the RX100 very slippery.

  2. I agree. A month ago I finally was able to test one. It“s an incredibly small camera. Maybe too small, but truly pocketable. If tele end is still f/4.9 I“d go for the Fuji X20 instead.

    1. A small franiec grip would do the trick with ergonomics.

Any other compact of this class (be it Fuji, Canon or Nikon) would not perform IQ wise as well as the RX100.

If looks are important, then go with whatever you like the look like. The RX100, on the other hand, is a camera that delivers the good like no other in that category.

    2. The X20’s image quality is nowhere near as good as the RX100. And it’s HUGE compared to the RX100 as well. The smaller, better camera is the RX100.

  3. Yes, they will likely charge a premium for removing the AA filter in the RX1 for the RX1R, like Nikon do for their D800E cameras.

  4. Be nice to see price drops on the RX100, the MKII doesn’t look different enough that I’d feel I missed out.

  5. I’d love to see an RX1 with interchangeable lenses and a built-in EVF. Then I’d adapt some of my favorite manual lenses… Nikon, VoigtlƤnder, etc. and be done!
