What you see here on top is the new nice looking 18-5mm f/1.8 lens for the Nikon 1 system. You can get in Black at Amazon (Click here) and in Silver at BHphoto (Click here) and in White again at BHphoto (Click here). The price is very good for such a fast lens!

It is really big for being so slow. Why can the Panasonic 20mm f/1.8 be so much smaller?
agree, this barrel is way too big for those tiny lenses inside. maybe they used a big cheap motor there? 😉
Anyone know if it’s a full metal barrel like the 10mm? Agreed, it should be at least an f/1.4. Nikon lives to be conservative and string along it’s customers. ;-(
I would have to give the string along award to Olympus they pumped out camera after camera with the same crap 12mp sensor. They are still stringing their FT users along. They charge $900 for an f1.8 lens and then want you to pay an extra $90 for a damn hood. To cap this they strung the financial markets along for years. Special edition “black” lens wow cant wait.
BHphoto links are broken.
The price is OK though, especially will be when it gets discounted $100 or so.
Finally
the nikon 1 sensors has two stops less dof compared to aps-c.
18.5/1.8 is equivalent to 35/3.5 on this format … it s not even really tiny.
50/5 eguivalent on FX… Nice? Not:(
The Canon and Nikon 50/1.8’s are $100 or so. This lens only has to cover 15% of the sensor area so I don’t know if the price is ($190) is all that good…
