Image on top shows the current S1 (New S2 will look just like it).
Here we will get our next new Nikon 1 cameras. In May they will launch the S2 which replaces the current S1 and will feature a 14.2 Megapixel sensor with 73 phase detection and 135 contrast detection AF points
And just like the J4 also the S2 will not be sold on the “not-mirrorless-friendly” US market 🙁

It’s not really true that the US market isn’t mirrorless-friendly. It’s just that in the US, mirrorless cameras have mostly caught the interest of the enthusiasts, whereas the entry-level buyers still believes that a DSLR is the way to go for serious photography. Therefore, it makes sense to not release entry-level models like S2 and J4 (or EOS M2) in the American market, because they really don’t sell that well.
I think we might see Olympus, Panasonic and others doing the same thing, if mirrorless cameras aren’t more widely adopted by beginners in the US soon. An alternative approach would be the one that Sony tried with the A3000, i.e. making an entry-level mirrorless camera that pretends to be a DSLR. Don’t know how successful that one was, though.
It’s like that Samsung Australia advertisement where they set up a “What do you think is better?” stand and show people that the camera in the hollowed-out dSLR body is just one of their NX-series cameras, similar to the other one next to it.
