New rumors: Panasonic 100-400mm lens costs $2,500. X-E2 firmware coming. A6xxx ships early 2016.

There are a couple of new “Minor” rumors floating on the web:

First of all I got word the new A6xxx camera will ship in very early 2016. But I still don’t know the day of the announcement. At the same time SAR reports there is also a “mysterious” High End Camera coming. Not sure he is talking about A or E-mount here.
43rumors got few info about the Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm lens. It will be announced in February and cost $2,500. And Fujirumors reports the X-E2 firmware will be released in mid January.

In the meantime we still don’t have any official Samsung statement about the recent camera business closure rumor. I really hope they will tell us something about that soon!

  1. If the new Leica-Panasonic 100-400 mm zoom performs like a high quality prime between 300 and 400 mm it will be well worth it.
If it peaks at 100 mm and starts fading at 200 mm it will be a waste.

  2. A6xxxx to ship early 2016:) rather odd as there are no real solid rumors – so I would expect later in the year – after June – and still no answer from Sony as to if it is a A6000 replacement or the long long awaited NEX7 replacement – but there are rumors that this might be the last APS-C E-mount body – which sounds reasonable as Sony has said they will be focusing on FF FE mount as their cheaper cameras for the future and the A9 FF A mount will be the high end – and they have also stated that they have a cheaper FF body coming out – so A7xxx will be where APS-C was before and then the A9 will be high end line – and the cheaper A7xxx will be to fill in for the A5100 etc line – and I expect they will drop anything below that and come out with a 1 inch sensor body to fill in that gap –
I personally feel that Sony might buy out Olympus camera division – they already own a chunk in it – therefore the 5 axis IBIS in the new A7/s/r – I just do not think Olympus would have given that away for a small investment – so my feeling is that they will inherit M43 so having the APS-C E mount would be to much – how long has it been since Sony made a lens for APS-C E mount ?? or third party makers? –
The big question for the A6xxxx – will it have 5 axis IBIS ? – or just have an updated 24 MP sensor and 4K and few other things – I suspect no IBIS as they want to keep the price close to what the current A6000 is as it has been a great seller for them and many folks would not upgrade if the price was $1299 –
