Leica Monochrome shipping and cool video by CamerastoreTV :)

The nice team from CamerastorTV made that new Leica Monochrome video review I embedded here on top. These guys are so nice I am going to link to their store a couple of times: www.thecamerastore.com, www.thecamerastore.com, www.thecamerastore.com, www.thecamerastore.com, www.thecamerastore.com,  …and I am not going paid for this joke 🙂

That said I heard first preorders have now been shipped by BHphoto (Click here). But I really don’t know how few of my readers had the money to preorder this jewel. We may better wait for Sony to launch their NEX-FF hybrid system. On SonyAlphaRumors we just learned that this system works in a different way then we thought (Click here ot read the newest rumor on SAR).

  1. I like it how you are not afraid of the anger from Leica people. This video makes everyone realize how stupid it is to want to spent such a huge amount of money on something that bad.

    1. It is not a question of rationality to spend that amount of money for a plain B/W camera. It is simply a question if you enjoy puristic B/W photography and like the challenge to play with optical filters instead of color regulators in Lightroom and if you really want to see which level of detail 18 MP can dissolve.

And you have the option to re-discover color photography by taking three b/w-pictures with red, green and blue filter and combine them afterwards 😉

  2. This guy kept telling us that it’s like shooting with a film camera. So just get a film camera from ebay, load it with Tri-X and save yourself $$$$$$$.

By the way the noise looks ugly, can’t compare it with film grain.

  3. I like Chris Nicolls and the Camera Store videos a lot. Cool guys.

About the Monochrome. The idea is lovely, but its just for a niche within a niche of camera users.

Note how that still doesn’t address the main NEX shortcoming: lack of native lenses, suitable for the smallish NEX bodies.

FF (135 film size) sensor in mirrorless makes very very little sense and has extremely small audience. Heck, even the 3rd party lens manufacturers rarely make FF lenses this days: main bulk are the APS-C lenses. FF is a dead end.

Otherwise, the way Sony does it, is the most sensible way: E-mount lens owners are happy, A-mount lens owners are happy. Everybody’s happy.

    1. Typical waste-of-space message: wrong, unsubstantiated and opinionated. 135 makes a lot of sense and a universal 135 camera with proper manual focus even more. Go play with your M43.

  5. Ohh, this camera is just big bull crap. A REAL film like camera is like this —

    1. They should have modifed the software so that the images photographed CAN NOT be reviewed or downloaded until at least 48 hours. So that would require fixed memory inside.

    2. Also, if someone wants certain images to be downloaded within 2 hours then they should be required to pay one time fee of certain dollars to the Leica website for those images.

    3. Finally every time you have to download images from camera to laptop, you should be required to be in a dark room with all lights off, doors & windows closed. You should also prepare a liquid of developer, solution etc in a plate and let camera “smell” it for to download images. This would require a “light sensor” and “smelling sensor” in camera.

Now THAT’S what an authentic film-camera-like experience would be.
