Leica just announced the new Leica M (Typ 262). It’s basically an “entry-level” version of the more expensive Typ 240. It has no video and no live view but it gains a quieter shutter. Full specs and image samples can be seen at Leica US and Leica DE.

      1. its not a complaint. its a criticism of Leica pricing structure. The cost is too high for an “entry level”. It will never compete. Many will not be able to afford a 5000.00 camera not including lens. Those that can afford it will opt for the regular M for just a little more. Not sure who Leica is trying to target with this camera.

        1. First you say that many can’t afford a $5,000 camera, then you say that those who can afford it will pay ‘just a little more’, which comes out to $2,000 more, or +40%…

          1. My point is 5000.00 is alot of money to spend on a camera for alot of people. Those who can afford it wouldnt mind paying 2000.00 extra for the premium M since anyone who is buying a Leica is going for the best anyway. Why make an entry level camera that is still out of reach for many people? (By the way im not a Leica hate, I own an M9).

        2. Does Bently need to compete with Lexus? No, they don’t, they sell to different segments. Better, is always a perception, never a reality. Take it from a Marketing pro, you are being told by industry what to think. There is an entry level for ultra premium products. Stick with your Ford if you find value there.

    1. And making tons of money in the meantime. Different markets. If you’re buying an Sony A7R II, then you’ve never wanted a Leica body in the first place.

      1. I love Leica but I have a bad feeling about the success of this camera. It wouldn’t be an issue had Sony not changed the game.Hopefully im wrong.

    2. Different people, you know? Different customers.
I can take a good photo even with a disposable film camera, or a 5 mp camera of some years ago: this “old sensor” s4it is what makes people wish for a better gear every 6 months..

    3. I think Leica is a standard of its own. Sony is for tech geeks buying another A7MKIII next year, while e-bay is overcrowded with the older models. Precisely that is the difference – Leica owners don’t care about one year more or less, while their 24MP is in the reality very near to the absolute perfection.

      1. You probably already understand, that which is blowing you away are their photography skills and compositions. Not the sensors or the lenses themselves.

      2. Maybe they are just a good photographers. There have been a tests where much, much cheaper cameras outperformed Leica combo in both colors and IQ. Take a look at new DPreview Leica SL studio comparison. Even the old A7 has a better results… Don’t even mention the new 5Ds or A7r II.
I am not a tech geek, I am just a photo enthusiast who want the best photographs for a reasonable price.
I also don’t care about how often the new models coming out, But it’s very commendable that each of that new model actually bring a small revolution!
        Regards

  1. Getting closer. Take out the LCD entirely, and make it as thin as the X Vario body, like a film M. That would be a near perfect digital Leica M to me.

    1. Actually they did that already 😀 For about 15 000 or 20 000 euros only I don’t remember 😀
Leica managers are still laughing about the suckers that bought it.

  2. No video, no live view? Not only is it entry level, it’s also seriously retro for that authentic 1990s vibe.
