Fuji in Stock at Jessops, shipping at Amazon and reviewed by LL.

For the first time the X PRO 1 is in Stock in UK at Jessops (Click here). And it is now temporarily out of Stock at Amazon US (Click here). This means the first stocks are shipping ๐Ÿ™‚

Nick Devlin posted the second part of his X PRO 1 review at Luminous Landscape (Click here): “This camera can see in the dark. Its performance up to ISO 6400 is nothing short of remarkable, in particular for an APS-C sensor. This is the first camera I have used where ISO is just not an issue.” He really fell in love with the image quality and hybrid viewfinder but also found some flaws like the not so top performer 18mm lens and the usual slow autofocus.

  1. Amazon has had the fuji x-pro series camera and lenses listed as ‘temporarily out of stock’ for days and days. No reason to believe that any items have shipped.

  2. Re Devlin’s review: [sigh] yet another review that makes almost no mention of the practicality of the optical finder, despite the fact that this is the X Pro’s only distinctive USER feature (as distinct from technical features such as the non-Bayer sensor.)

Is the 0.6x view big enough to be useful? How about the 0.37x view? What about brightness?

He does describe the EVF as mediocre, and notes several limitations of Fuji’s loopy approach to focus point selection — but in terms of the critical business of *seeing through the camera,* not much of any guidance.

I suspect that this blind spot stems from Devlin’s feeling that “the rangefinder method of focusing was actually very low on the list of reasons people use ‘rangefinder’ cameras.” In other words, the reason he and most of his buddies like RF cameras is that they make them feel like Cartier-Bresson, or whatever.

But there ARE a few of us who like optical-viewfinder cameras for specific working reasons — notably the ability to see outside the framing area, and the fact that you never lose visual contact with the subject before, during, or after exposure.

The X Pro could be exactly what we need… or it could be a waste of a fairly large amount of money.

I’m still waiting for a review that will tell me which.

  3. I don’t think Amazon USA has sold a single XP1 yet but funny how they already have listed:

    Frequently Bought Together

Customers buy this item with B+W 52mm Clear UV Haze with Multi-Resistant Coating (010M) $31.90

Wow, many pictures talk for themselves: there is no limit to sharpening!

Otherwise, it is a pretty dull enumeration of technicalities – up until THE ‘MEH and EPIC FAIL chapters. There it gets officially funny. (Oversight of RAW support in 3rd party software (like LR) is unforgivable for a camera in this price bracket.)

    1. Agrees that Fuji are stupid not to copoerate with Adobe and PhaseOne. However I doubt there is that magic behind the LR/C1 import: It seems they take a look and and optimizes the import using the LR/C! commands.
With booth Oly E-P1 and Pana G3 I used their RAW converters to TIFF without any PP. Then opened in LR and made adjustments to opptimize. Saved as preset and applied on later imports. After LR supported the camera I could compare their preset with my own: With the Oly it was more or less the same. With the G3 I found Adobe’s settings to aggressive in sharpness and noice.

  5. I like Silkypix converter. Simple and effective.

However, the X Pro 1 is shaping up to be one of those cameras that one year after one buys it, Fuji will make it usable. Fuji should do the testing before they release the camera and not use the buyers as beta testers.

Too many impediments built in. ๐Ÿ™

  6. That information was obviously flawed…. One person posted it on twitter and the FujiGuys quickly debunked the rumor…

    Check it out:

Hey @fujiguys, I’ve now read in a few different places that #fuji isn’t working with software developers on #xpro1 RAW processing. True?

    The Fuji Guys ? @fujiguys
@morgannels You are reading forums. They are a place of many mis-information

    Morgan Sandquist ? @morgannels
@fujiguys I’m very happy to hear it’s misinformation. Sadly, it’s not just forums: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/.shtml

    The Fuji Guys ? @fujiguys
@morgannels Where did he get that info from, we never told him when we give him the camera. He’s only making assumption.

    AND THEN…

    Cรฉdric Thual ? @thual
@fujiguys hi ! xpro1 is very exciting, but what about the Lightroom support, can you give us hope ? Come on !!! ๐Ÿ˜€ http://forums.adobe.com/message/4268214

    The Fuji Guys ? @fujiguys
@thual Thanks for your interest in the X-Pro1, please note that “the ball is in their court”. Please tweet them to move things along
