Yes yes yes!
Agreed. The new EVF is fantastic!
Haha! “Below $1000”.
Booyah! $1400 with the kit zoom ($700 on it’s own), I’m in! It will be sad to say goodbye to the X100 though…
This rangefinder-styled camera looks weird with 18-55 kit lens.
Agreed. Though I will get the kit because I can’t see myself paying $700 for a (admittedly probably fairly nice) kit lens. $400 I can swallow, especially being the only IS lens in the range. But it will be primes the rest of the way.
Fuji rep on camerastore tv looks like Martin Short….
Swedish “Kamera och Bild” says 1300€ for the kit. Think it is fair money for the product. The most obvious competitor Sony NEX-6 kit will probably be a little less. Firmly believes the Fuji zoom is superior. The EVF is the same. The NEX has swivel LCD.
A very interesting thing to see is the sensor/processor performance compared. NEX 5N and X-Pro 1 are very close IQ-wise. How much better is the new Sony sensor?
5N is clearly better: fuji destroys details. The image restoration technics used in camera jpg engine is laughable and won’t always work well.
But new sensor performance is kind of underwhelming, unfortunately.
Quite heavy accusations. Have you real experience or are you just talking? Because my own experience with my xpro heavily contradicts what you are stating here.
Xpro1 has the watercolor issue – it smears details. This is a well known issue.

nope, it’s not fuji but RAW processors instead. let’s wait a bit and hopefully we’ll get better RAW conversion in popular SW. Still better then Sigma which isn’t supported in anything
That is RAW conversions when using third-party products (like LR4) not the JPEG-engine, which in my eyes is bloody excellent, both in terms of noise presentation AND color reproduction, which can not be said for the heavy handed Sony engine…
Actual demosaicing problem of ACR, you can read this: http://chromasoft.blogspot.it/2012/05/demosaicing-fuji-x-pro1-part-3.html
i’ve shot over than 2.000 photos in RAW with the XPRO 1, converted in Silkypix to 16bit TIFF: perfect!
I believe you never use or own the Fuji. Or, you never learn how to use the camera.
I have an X100, my son has a 5N which I’ve used extensively with both native and legacy glass. You don’t know what you are talking about.
When will we be able to buy it
if there were more zoom objectives… i would buy it!
They will bring next year two additional zooms: a 10-24 (equivalent 15-36mm), and a 55-200 (equivalent 82-300mm). You can buy with confidence! 🙂
I liked the comment about better eye relief and I’ll be anxious to try this camera as one of the main problems with my current Panasonic is that in low light the EVF acts like a little torch shining its light directly into my eye and is therefore very uncomfortable to use.
On paper it looks appealing, but Fuji’s X cameras have had significant issues out of the box, is this a finished product or will early adopters get punished by problems like the sticky aperture blades, white orbs, dreadful AF, having to spin the focus ring over and over to manually focus, the watercolor issue and so on?
Lack of video options aren’t helping either. The B&H page says 1080p with aperture control, so you’re still stuck with whatever ISO and shutter speed Fuji engineers think is needed, nothing is worse than watching exposure jump around as the camera moves between shadows and highlights.
Fuji’s inability to ship a camera that’s ready to actually be used is killing the X line.
if you want video get a different camera, fuji aims at stills shooters
“Fuji’s inability to ship a camera that’s ready to actually be used is killing the X line.”
Say what? I’ve been more prolific with my “unusable” XPro1 in the 6 months I’ve had it then with any other camera I’ve ever owned (which is a fairly long list). I’ve even had 3 of my images explored on Flickr with 1 of them making it to the front page, something that has never happened to me in in 5 years of using that site. If you think the Fuji cameras are unusable then it might be time for to brush up on your technique.
As far as video issues…who cares? Thankfully Fuji is focused on photographers first. If I wanted a video camera I’d buy a GH2.
chris, do you or have you owned X-Pro1? just asking
Based on what I can see on the pictures on the new X-E 1 microsite: Yes! Built-in diopter adjustment for the EVF!!
This is an important improvement over the X-Pro 1, which has a poorly-chosen, non-adjustable default diopter (translation: I can’t see through the dratted thing.) I wonder if they’ll be able to roll the diopter adjustment into the putative X-Pro 2…
… meanwhile, another important spec that nobody seems to be talking about is how long the EVF blacks out between shots. The mirrorless cameras I use now are subpar here; the Panasonics are marginal and the Olympus E-M 5 is borderline unacceptable for action shooting.
The only real advantage I could see to the X-Pro 1 over other cameras was that in its optical-viewfinder mode, the finder is blackout-free. If the X-E 1 is no better than other mirrorless cameras, it’s hard to see any reason for it (other than as a lower-priced model.)
I have such strong glasses that the typical diopter adjustment is not enough (normally limited to max +/- 3). I would prefer a very big classical rubber cup for my glasses to press onto instead of the paltry one that the X-E1 is fitted with. And there seems to be no grooves or anything for attaching another rubber cup.
Note to Fuji: Please offer a big huge rubber cup to install on your viewfinder enabled cameras.
Have the specs been released yet? if so, does anyone know if there will be focus peaking for use on older lenses?
No focus peaking – no Fuji.
moral: dontt trust a secret to the Camera Store
Does anyone know when these went up on amazon?? I put my order in around 9 est and im wondering if ill make the first shipment list.
Any info on the fx 1?
After a few months with an X100 as a 2nd camera, I’m convinced I’m going to turn in my Canon 7D in favour of a more compact solution. A complete change of system is intimidating but I’m ready to take the plunge now.
Any sign of UK pre-orders anywhere?
The camera (and the system) looks like almost everything i wanted (at least on paper):
X100 sized body? Check.
X100 styled controls with real aperture and shutter rings? Check.
APS-C sized sensor? Check.
A photographer oriented selection of high quality bright primes? Check.
No-nonsense, understated body? Check.
My questions are:
Will the AF deliver?
Will we experience the same blackout as the X100 when taking a picture through the EVF?
Will we see proper raw support from LR4 anytime soon?
Will they solve all stupid firmware issues?
This looks like my definitive mirrorless kit 🙂
For raw development, I suggest to use the Fuji raw converter to export the result as tiffs. You can use LR, aperture or DXO to refine the results.
Another half-baked solution. I’ve done it and don’t like the work flow at all. You really can’t pull up low values as a TIFF with the widest color space as Adobe RGB compared to a RAW file. So you need to get the export right as much as you can before going to LR. Yuk.
