What you see on top is the first presentation video of the new XF1 (or XP1) compact camera. It will be announced along the X-E1 “cheap” interchangeable mirrorless camera on September 5th (yes next week!).
Sony will announce the NEX-6 and three new NEX lenses on Spetember 12th.

Dying to see if it has the x10 sensor. Would love this as a pocket point and shoot
No, it will have a sensor that’s a bit smaller. With those focal lengths, I think it’s quite probable that it will have a crop factor of 4.4, which would give an equivalent of 28-112mm, which is very standard in these cameras (same as XZ-1, X10, G1X,…)
The X10 has a crop factor of 4, while the XZ-1 (and LX3/5, S100, EX1/2) have a crop factor of 4.7. So the sensor in this new Fuji will be something in between.
It’s the same size as Sony’s RX100, and it has the same 1.8-4.9 aperture range… with a much smaller sensor. Not so good 🙁
Right, but they could always compete on price.
Yes, this one should be priced as the Canon S100, not as the RX100 (it competes with the former, not with the latter).
Still, given the size of the RX100 it will be difficult for this camera to survive when it has 1.5 f-stops disadvantage over it. Price is important, but those shopping for high end compacts look more at the size/performance ratio than at the price.
It’s most uncomfortable and time consuming power on/off I’ve ever seen 🙁
That camera looks too delicate
3 steps to turn it on? not a good idea
Yikes that’s bad
That is so retarded. couldn’t the camera automaticaly do that when you turn the camera on? it’s not like twisting the lens is gonna make the camera more reliable or last longer or start faster. In the end, the damn lens is gonna break at the same time whether you twist the lens out manually or have the camera do it. Retarded with a capital R.
It’s the first time i saw a video explaing how to start a camera 🙂 Usualy, you only push a button from off to on. Maybe it’s because there is not zoom motor ? And so a silent manual zoom. BTW, we are on september 5, so where is the announcement ? 🙁
its a ridiculous and contrived way to turn anything ON…it’s a Rube-Goldberg contraption, not a camera…
The method leaves you with three clear easy to set clear choices.
1. On
2. Off
3. Standby.
That standby setting saves battery power while having the camera at the ready.
After seeing the many lens failures of the Canon S100, this seems like a much more durable easy to set system.
