Epson announces the mass production start of the new 4.4MP EVF

epsonEVF

Epson announced that it started to mass produce the new 4.4MP EVF. Plenty of companies like Sony and Olympus use Epson EVF. And DC.watch speculates the Epson 4.4MP EVF is the one used by the new Leica SL. It’s highly likely that we will see the same EVF in some of the 2016 new mirrorless cameras.

  1. Epson (maybe with Bessa cooperation) should make its own small FF morrorless with corner EVF (rangenfinder styled) and a few small f/2 all lenses: 85/50/35/24mm for street shooters, journalism, photoreports with some great placed buttons/dials for in-fly shooting. Many photographers that do not like Sony A7x design with centered EVF and smallish buttons would buy it.

  2. The evf in my nx1 is lower res than this, but I can’t see the pixels. I’d rather want an evf with great dr and 1ms lag…

And I’d want something not depending on the evf, that’s a zero blackout in burst shooting.

    1. With that higher resolution, you can have higher magnification(A larger screen) and still not see the pixel structure.
Refresh/Lag and blackout are independent of resolution, the camera just needs a more robust processor to drive the EVF, and better design of the burst system to provide an EVF feed.

  3. It’s 4,4 million dots, not pixels. In screens and viewfinders pixels consist of 3 (RGB) dots (also called subpixels). It has 1400×1050 pixels = 1,47 Mp, or 4,41 dots/subpixels.

    Dpreview got the terminology right.
