Good news the lens is more luminous now at the long end. If it still has a tiltable or articulated screen and EVF is included in this price, no doubt is an interesting option, but if they want charge you two hundred more for that EVF, I´d also consider other cameras.
Well, some good news and some bad news. The good news is the lens is noticeably faster; f2,8-5,8 was only a slight bit better than usual f3,5-5,6 kit lenses for ILCs. The announced speed f2-3,9 is considerably better, 1 EV at the wide end and even better et the tele end. Very useful is also the extended zoom range, especially the wider end. So I applaud for this. However from the picture it seems there will be no built-in viewfinder. I have been longing for change of old-style useless OVF for modern EVF, but a built-in one. An external EVF makes the whole thing bigger (and I guess it will cost something, so even if the camera itself can be cheaper than G1x, the combo with external EVF will definitely be much more expensive).
It seems extraordinary Canon could increase both, focal range and luminosity, so much while maintaining sensor size and compact design. If they did it, congratulations. Let´s wait and see if that sensor is still 1.5″ as the one in G1X.
I don’t think the picture leaked will be the G1X II because of the external EVF and the rather slimmy body which will belong probably more to the others Powershots announced…Let’s just wait a few more days !!
I actually agree – the size of the EVF looks too large compared to the camera body. The GX1 has quite different shape. It may actually well be that the specifications are not for GX1-II but for a new Powershot.
The body is not that slim if you think of the Sony RX100s.
Take a look at the protruding, fixed part of the zoom lens, just like the G1X. That would be too big for a small-sensor Powershot.
Many people complained about the G1X being too bulky, I would not be surprised if Canon went to great lengths to reduce the body size.
Take a better look at photograph. On flashlid you can see Powershot xxx … it is not GX1.
G1X II Sorry
Yawn.
VF should have been built in, like on most previous models. A big mistake.
