A source, who was right in the past (SRP), claims to have the following information: the lens on the X30 will remain the same (28-112mm f/2-2.8)! Also a new source shared with me the same information, thanks!
But, always according to the source, who was right in the past, the X30 will feature a new dual ring on the lens (Zoom ring + Control Ring).
Although the source was right in the past, I invite you to take it still with a grain of salt.
EDIT: Someone asked in the comments what a control ring is. Well, check out Fuji’s XQ1 page and you’ll learn more about it.
The rumored X30 specs list so far is: (TS= trusted source / NeS =New Source / AS = Anonymous Source / SRP = source who was right in the past, but not yet trusted / ORS = other rumor sites)
– 2/3 sensor (TS + NeS)
– EVF only (TS + NeS)

Cool beans.
What is a control ring? On/off?
no, you can change settings with a control ring, like on the XQ1
I don’t really know what that means, either, but I’ll look it up. Thanks 🙂

Thanks. Does this mean they’re dumping the manual zoom, as well?
no, the zoom will remain 😉
Manual zoom has advantages: A sturdier mount to keep things aligned better and one less component that takes battery power. I thought the X10 decision for manual zoom was brilliant.
Same sensor as the X20 or a new one?
Same lens indicates that it will at least be the same sensor size.
He also has 2/3 in there for the size, but there is a lot more to a sensor than just size. Megapixels, filtration, bus speeds and many other factors can vary making on generation of sensor much more useful than another.
My guess is, if they went full EVF, they probably had to switch to a new sensor that allows fairly fast reads off the sensor. Not to mention the whole electronics package in the camera is mot likely faster.
Why? The X20 already does live view, EVF or LCD is the same stuff more or less.
2/3 sensor, like on X20… I believe this means same MP, but I’ll try to confirm this
One month from Photokina, and this is all you’ve got? Did your sources dry up? It’s become hard to filter out the rumor posts from the jungle of ‘please click my link and buy something’ posts.
The options are 2:
1) this is all my sources know about, and they aren’t able to discover more about other cameras
2) at photokina there will be the X30, maybe the X100T and nothing else
If case 1 is true, then let’s hope other sources will join and help me
if case 2 is ture, then it’s clear that I can not share rumors about cameras that do not exist and won’t come at photokina.
I think case 2 is correct, but who knows.
I have yet to be convinced about a X100T honestly, but one month is plenty of time. 🙂
hehe… now I feel somehow under pressure 😉
What happened to XPro-2?
This might be the camera Fuji changed plans on it much often… it’s hard to keep up with all the changes
Latest rumors suggest it will be available in 2015
why not, to bring some new users to the Fuji world…
But I am more into the X-Pro2 or X-E3, or legendary MF X100
More controls, more better 🙂
The XQ1 has a control ring, so I guess everybody expects the X30 to have one, too.
Good to hear that it is likely to be implemented also in the X30
I hope that the rest of the rumor-list is correct too. EVF (x0.62) and over 400 shots battery life, and the USB-charging and 2/3 sensor and the same lens
oh, does this mean the X100T could also have one? 😉
Maybe they also have some left over from the low sales of the XQ1. 😉
and also some 2/3 sensors
P.S.: the control ring you see in the X30 mock-up was copied from the XQ1 ring 😉
XQ1 traded a control ring from the zoom ring of the XF1.
When is my X E2 book coming??
Next week, I suppose.
Gotta say, this is weak sauce on Fuji’s part.
Very true. Fujfilm has folded up their R & D.
that seems like a bit of a stretch, don’t you think. One mediocre product in a fantastic product lineup doesn’t meant they have folded on R&D. I still love my X-Pro1, btw
whilst others innovate around sensor/processor, fuji started laggig big time! all recent cameras since x10 and xpro1 which were both great novelties is around cosmetics, operations/controls and gimmicks such as wifi.
lenses are truly great but the pace has slowed down a lot and they leave everyone i. the dark on the future format plans…
they really need to pull a big stunt with the x30 and xpro2 (and a little less with the x100t) if they want to remainthe talk of the town rather than a solid camera producer known for good jpegs, retro look and slow af/start up…
Meh. There go my hopes for the X30 being the camera I’ve been waiting for, with a greater zoom range and/or smaller body.
Guess it could still be smaller, but dual rings doesn’t point in that direction.
Im glad the X30 comes up, so the X20 drops in price! >:D
X20 @ 400 USD = Shut up and take my money!!!
I’ve been thinking the same. And the X10 too!
If they are confirmed, these rumors are bad news for this camera. Too little improvement to really compete with RX100 mk2 or mk3 or maybe forthcoming LX8…
It’s a pity Fuji doesn’t invested more in redevelopment of its compact camera line and merely focused on high end gear 🙁
The 1 inch sensor in the LX8 appears to have been a miscommunication.
I heard a rumor that it may actually be 4/3
http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-panasonic-lx8-comes-with-same-1-inch-sensor-as-the-fz1000-specs-roundup/
“merely focused on high end gear” ??
How can you say that with a frown on your face!
In the last year they mainly released, except XQ1 : XE-2, X-T1 and prime lenses… Now developing X-pro2…
Not focused on high end gear?
Exactly, now once more with that frown upside down. And repeat until you get it.
Lord knows we wouldn’t want Fujifilm to invest in the part of their camera line that makes money (high end), but would rather they invest in the part of the line where sales are dropping every year — industry wide.
Same lens, same sensor? Seriously? Sincerely hope these rumours are wrong. In case they’re not, the expected Cam I’ve been dreaming with for a long time, went through the toilet.
Yep, an epic fail by Fujifilm.
Fujifilm, giving up on sensor development. Epic fail.
That has to be your most bizarre random troll so far. Some tidy work!
I don’t think he has anything better to do. Certainly nothing with actually taking pictures. I wish Patrick would enable the disqus mute feature so we could all mute him from our discussions.
If all other things are the same as on the X20, it will be good to buy the X20, prices will fall down…no reason to buy the X30 for the evf, battery and dual ring…same IQ and better price for the X20, im all in
The funny thing is that Fuji went from a buzz about potential full frame options being introduced around Photokina to the only rumors being about a tiny sensor, step up from a point and shoot camera. At this point, I don’t think Fuji will be releasing anything remotely interesting until sometime next year. Perhaps the X-Pro 2 is still a year away, at which time they will need something groundbreaking like the organic sensor. If that is what they are waiting for, I will be impressed. If not, I will likely move on.
If they surprise us with an improved sensor and a very good EVF, all this into the usual gorgeous vintage design, that would make a nice pocket camera.
A bit of improvement on the video would be nice too, though…
(I say this but I just bought the Sony RX100m3… couldn’t wait and needed good video).
I am personally looking forward to fuji cameras having the amazing Sony A6000 24mp sensor. Yes it’s more mp in an APS-C sensor, but that autofocus though! I am not phased whether is is an Xtrans or not. That’s when I reckon DSLR’s will have a real threat (strong lenses with amazing autofocus). I only recently got a used X100 and absolutely love it.
Nothing wrong with 24MP on a APSC sensor. It’s awesome. If there’s going to be an X100T and/or X-Pro2 (some day) it’s highly likely to be 24MP if you ask me. Congrats on your X100. 😀
I have been told the X-Pro 2 will be announced next month (source was a Fuji rep: told my friends who work in the photography industry), and that it will not be full frame. So, it will likely come with a 24mp, APS-C, X-Trans sensor, which may or may not be exciting. If what they have been told is correct, those who have been waiting for the X-Pro 2 may be happily surprised next month. Who knows. I will believe it when it is announced.
It seems that Fuji rumours is just not receiving as much leaked info as they used to. Two of my friends who work in the photography industry told me that a Fuji rep informed them that the X-Pro 2 will be announced at Photokina and will be out by December. So, perhaps Fuji will have something interesting in a month. We will soon see.
everything is possible. You can tell your friends they are free to contact me and share some details about the X-PRO2
They actually told me to not say anything, as they promised to not to leak it. However, if they are right, this September will be interesting for Fuji. They weren’t informed about most of the features, but rather that it will be announced next month and available by December. It could be an exciting month.
ok, thanks. However, if they contact me, we could discuss this further.
They mentioned a silver version of the X-T1 as well. But, who knows. I am just hoping for the X-Pro 2. Hopefully their source is right, as people have been waiting too long…And, Fuji could sell a lot of X-Pro 2s if it is priced right and comes with some significant improvements.
hm, just a silver version or a limited edition?
I am not sure, as that is all they said. If what they have been told is correct, even video shooters may be happy with the X-Pro 2, as they were told it will come with 4K. For me, I don’t care, as I don’t shoot video. I am more concerned about dynamic range, resolution, a brighter, larger viewfinder, 1/8000th of a second shutter speed, and a bare-bones raw converter (or ability to convert the files to 16-bit TIFF in-camera). It needs to come with all, or at least most, of all of the above to interest me.
That said, I have heard the jpeg engine in the X-E2/X-T1 is not as good as that in the X-Pro 1. So, since I use the in-camera converter, output in general is a concern for me. Irrespective of features, the X-Pro 2 must have better output than the X-Pro 1, or I won’t even consider it.
For me, output is the most important. I may buy a DP2 Merrill next week in Japan, to compliment my DP1 Merrill, and the only reason is output: they are basically a piece of crap body wrapped around the best sensor at low ISO with superb lenses.
Generally reps are the next to last to know or have real insight. They’re just salespeople and having worked with them for years they are an overly optimistic bunch that have little idea of what’s to come. In my industry we actively avoid telling reps anything about what’s coming because they’ll sell it before it’s ready and promise features that were never planned.
Possibly. But, we can only be hopeful. And, hopefully Fuji is announcing something interesting this September. Photokina is pointless with just an X30…
I agree but we won’t have long to wait. Still, Fuji has always done things their own way so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them do something different for the sake of different.
True.
It is only a month away, so we will know soon enough. And, although my DP Merrill has exceptional image quality, for some reason, I love the feel and design of my X-Pro 1. I just got it back from repair last night, and when I held it, it made me want to use it again. So, the X-Pro 2 would be an exciting announcement for me.
Well, have a great day.
I will believe it when I see it. Until then, I will pick up a DP2 Merrill in Japan assuming the X-Pro 2 is not coming out.
