Fixed! X-PRO1 firmware ver. 3.01 available

 photo firmware_zps467d6da9.png

Fujifilm fixed the flawed X-PRO1 3.00 firmware and just uploaded on their global site the firmware 3.01. Download it here. Now that was a quick bugfix!

Share your findings in the comments.

NOTE: If you have problems to see the firmware ver. 3.01 then you probably have to clean the cache! The easiest way is described in Rico’s X-pert corner post “Tips for Updating your Firmware”: “just delete your browser cache or force your browser to reload and refresh the page by, for example, holding the Alt or Option key while clicking on Reload.”

thx for telling me, Marco (fujixclubitalia)

The firmware update Ver.3.01 from Ver.3.00 incorporates the following issue

  • The phenomenon is fixed that a movie could not be recorded properly in some cases.

The firmware update Ver.3.00 from Ver.2.05 incorporates the following issue

  • 1.Improvement of AF speed on most existing XF lenses.
  • The updated algorithm will enable AF speed to become faster with the following XF lenses:
  • XF14mmF2.8 R
  • XF18mmF2 R
  • XF35mmF1.4 R
  • XF60mmF2.4 R Macro
  • XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS.
  • <Note>
  • To enjoy this improvement, firmware upgrade of those XF lenses are also required.
  • 2.”Focus Peak Highlight” function for manual focusing is added.
  • The function, which features on FUJIFILM X100S and X20, is added and assists accurate and sensitive manual focusing by enhancing the outline of your subject in high contrast.
    * With this update, “Focus Peak Highlight” function is selected as a default setting. Pressing the center of the command dial for a while enables you to switch the setting of “Focus Peak Highlight” and “STANDARD” (off of “Focus Peak Highlight”). And “MF ASSIST” is added in SHOOTING MENU where you can select “HIGH” and “LOW” in “Focus Peak Highlight” and “STANDARD”.
  • 3.Improvement of the method to switch magnification during manual focusing.
  • Press the “Command dial” to activate image magnification during manual focusing and then turning the dial in either right or left direction will enable you to alternate the magnification of 3 times and 10 times.
  • 4.Improvement of focus accuracy in various scenes.
  • The focus detection algorithm is improved to provide more accurate focus for low contrast subjects and scenes containing horizontal stripes.

    1. I’d say we are already deeply contented if the features finally work correctly as they promised to us, don’t expect anything new.

  1. installed the 3.01 version.
everything a’ight! video HD works perfectly.
    no new features, luckily.

  2. I am liking Fuji more by the day. So responsive, and actually adding features with firmware upgrades, unlike Canon that only fixes “phenomenon”. When Fuji screw up, they fix it fast.

I am currently on holiday and my 60D with my three lenses is bulky. The only thing holding me back is the less-than-stellar movie mode on the Fujis. I do shoot a lot of video on my SLR. I would like a full manual mode in 1080p with a standard mic input. Make that, Fuji, and I’m all yours.

Hopefully the X-E1 replacement will be everything I need. If so, I’ll sell the Canon gear and happily downsize. Can’t wait to play with the 35/1.4, experiment with Leica glass and some 1950s Russian lenses.

    Yeah!

  3. Updated on the 23rd and had no problems but today while doing some videos my x-pro1 started behaving like the image shown in this post, while review the video, and started seeing what looks like a hot pixel on the right side of the screen slightly above the center line that does not show on video or captured stills and only appears after half pressing the shutter and while not pressing the shutter, during autofocus it disapears, and only shows in low light situations when in bright light or well lit places it doesn’t show. This just started happening today after I read about the firmware glitch and after some tests with video it started showing that pixel, the thing is that I have to wait till they release a new firmware and see if it is something caused by the 3.0 FW or I have to call fuji for a repair. It becomes more pronunced when in MF mode even without the peaking active.
In recorded video files or stills the phenomenon does not appear.
Did any of you experienced something like this??
Updating to the new version right now to see if it fixes it.

  4. Perhaps if Fuji (and most Japanese manufacturers) spent less time spruiking BS Japanese philosophies like Kaizen, Monozkuri etc and more time developing software properly this problem would never have happened in the first place.

    1. maybe QA testers are photographers and don’t care about video 😀 – just trolling, of course

  5. It seems that there is still some focus peeking in the 3X magnification. It would be nice to turn it compleetly off sometimes.

        1. +1
Yes you are right, it is possible to switch between picking of/on 🙂 Didn’t know about that .Thanks :))

    1. As Dirk mentions, you can turn off focus peaking by holding the command wheel for a second (you have to be in MF mode for this to work). You can also turn it off in the menu system under MF assist if you don’t like it.

I find focus peaking to be very useful for longer lenses with shallow DOF…even though it’s not very visible, it does cause the in focus item to pop quite a bit, which helps a lot. With something like the 8mm fisheye, though, it just makes it harder to focus critically (though I use zone focus for that most of the time anyway).

    2. It only has Standard (just magnification) or the Focus Peaking mode. go into the settings, its on the 5th page at the bottom.

    3. What I mean is; when focus peaking is turned off, there is still quite a bit of noise/focus peaking in the 3X magnification. That doesn’t appear in the 10X magnification. Could anybody check this before updating to 3.01 to see if it changed.

      1. This is the way it was in versions 2.0x. 3x mag had some kind of peaking, the others not.

It would seem that they added stronger peaking and left the original implementation unchanged (original as in what happens when no peaking is enabled).

I’m starting to feel sorry for Fuji, they have created such a complex product line, with so much functionality, that its becoming a liability. Shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure – those are the raw ingredients of photography … and here we all are, 3 updates in not much more than 6 weeks, and more to come.

Dear Fuji, I fear you will not survive on this trajectory.

        1. “Complex product line”?
          “…so much functionality it’s becoming a liability?

What the heck are you talking about? There are 3 interchangeable lens models in Pro, Enthusiast, and Entry level, and 2 fixed-focal length models that are nearly identical. There are 8 lenses and a few more to be released within the next 6 months.

Updating firmware takes minutes and increases compatibility and performance. If you can’t handle this very limited lineup and a few firmware updates you might consider going back to shooting film cameras from a decade ago.

          1. yes, you have described the complexity perfectly. 5 cameras, not including the 3 or 4 you forgot and those to be released in the future. And they all use the same base firmware.

Notice how ONLY the XPro1 had the bug … it only takes 3 interchangeable lens cameras for Fuji to start to struggle. What do you think that means for the future?

Its not a case of returning to Film, that is also complex, rather its a case of Fuji destroying its brand … the opposite of their stated strategy.

This is not the first time they stuffed up, each Firmware update from Fuji is a risk and a good 30 minutes. I don’t really have the time for that myself – yes I know, I should probably use a different system, but still the 23mm looks interesting and lots of new cameras in the fall … some of them perhaps FF.

        2. We’re not talking about their bridge superzoom and consumer grade compacts that are never discussed here. But yes — I forgot the X20.

Going obsolete (from a production standpoint) are the X100 and X10, so I don’t include those. No one I know owns the XF1 and it’s seldom ever mentioned here. No point counting new cameras that don’t even exist so how unreleased product is confusing is confusing in itself. That leaves us with the X-Pro1, XE-1, XM-1, X20, and X100s that are relevant to this forum. 5 bodies with similar ergonomics and sensors designed around price point, application, and target user. Seems reasonable from a business standpoint. I don’t see how you’d expect them to survive as a camera manufacturer if they made one or two models – no one else does.

Consider Apple — they make the shuffle, nano, iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini, iMac and MacBooks. I seriously doubt most consumers are confused and disenchanted with Apple because they make too many things. Normal people interested in Apple products buy what suits them and ignore the rest.

Unless you’re on a satellite or dial-up modem, it takes less than 30 minutes to upgrade firmware but really? 30 minutes to update your camera is too long? Compared to what — watching TV? Eating? Driving to the mall? .

But it’s your last statement that is so bizarre. You believe the entire X system is too complicated and apparently you don’t think firmware upgrades are a good thing either. But then you say you’re waiting for a new lens and maybe some FF body option??? So, more confusion with a bigger product line is okay after all, eh?

Last, I’ll bet you $100 that Fuji and the X-series cameras and lenses are going stronger than ever in 2014 and 2015 and beyond. You guys who think you know a company as big and diverse as Fuji is “going under” over a firmware update or a certain camera or lens are just plain silly and don’t know what you’re talking about. Fuji isn’t some upstart company that’s been around for just a few years.

    1. Well, I have an issue with my firmware update on my xe1 and my lens 18 55. When I turn the aperature ring to the low end 2,8, and continue to turn in the same direction, suddenly the aperature goes up, 3,2 3,6. Then when I turn the other way to close the aperature, it does not function right anymore. The aperature goes up or down or does not work while turning in the same direction…

        1. Well, I posted this issue to Tom Hogan who replies me that he already herad this issue several times… It seems not to be an isolated problem.

  6. upgraded the latest fw and now seem to have trouble with focus.
With my 60mm( upgraded fw to) sometimes no sharp images! (close range )
    someone the same problems ?

  7. Guys,

I’m having problem upgrading to 3.01. It keeps saying “firmware update not found”. This is upgrading from 2.04. What’s happening I wonder?

  8. Firmware 3.00 killed my XPro1. After taking about 100 photos, my XPRo1 shutdown and won’t turn on. I can’t update to this version since it wont turn on. I trief removing the battery for an hour, sdcard, no hope. This firmware just ruined my vacation, I haf to use my cellphone for the trip.
